OPC server for DCS

Is any OPC server is available for communicating Lookout with devices which use CS-275 protocol
Thanks in Advance

National Instruments does not have an OPC server that communicates with the CS-275 protocol. You will have to find a third party vendor that provides an OPC server for that protocol.
If you have a device that uses that protocol, the manufacturer may know of an OPC server for cs-275.

There are many third party OPC servers that are designed to communicate using the Profibus DP. You may try Trebing & Himstedt or Applicom for obtaining the necessary OPC server.

  • Interfacing PLC siemens S7_300 and LabVIEW DSC using siemens OPC server

Does anyone already interface Siemens PLC S7_315-2-DP with LabVIEW DSC using Siemens OPC server?
Is that a good solution? Are there any hidden problems?

The use of an OPC Server is the way to go when dealing with LV. If you already have Siemens OPC Server then use that. Otherwise, NI has a product called IA Severs/Lookout Protocol Drivers (LPD), which has a large selection of drivers for PLC's. After configuring the driver, LPD is the OPC Server for the device.

  • OPC server trouble seeing tags in NI Distributed System Manager

I have created my own OPC server for simulation purposes.  If I create an I/O server and select my OPC server I can then "create bound variable" in which I can browse my OPC tags which are all in there.  I use another program which makes use of property nodes to acquire a list of paths to these tags.  The list is empty.  I noticed that when I run the "NI Distributed System Manager" I can see the I/O Server but the sub tree doesn't show my tags.  If I got them to show up in "NI DSM" then I could get a list of tag paths.  Does anyone know why my tags would show up in the "created bound variable" window and not the "NI DSM" window?  I have tried deploying the library that the I/O server is in but this doesn't work.
    Thanks
    Matt

    Thanks for the reply Charris,
I have two OPC servers.  One is the simulator and one that I connect to at a remote location which required some OPC client software (some service in windows registry which I am not familiar with). All I know is that I can browse all tags on the remote OPC server by first creating an I/O server (yes I use OPC client) and selecting "create bound variables".  Before I bind any shared variables to OPC tags I can go into DSM and see all the tags that are not yet shared variables.
When I try doing this with the simulator, I first create the I/O server before I can browse all the tags in "create bound variables".  But this time when I go to the DSM, they are not listed under the I/O server.  This is just an observation.
My real problem is that I use this piece of code found on the NI website to get a list of tags (URLs).  This code works with the remote OPC server but not with the simulator.
I don't really understand the code.  All I know is that if I input the name of the library and the name of the I/O server as well as the path to the PC, it brings back a list of URLs pointing to tags.  Maybe there is something in this VI you can help with.
    Thanks
    Matt

  • Are there any example vi's for implementing a circular buffer between a plc, opc server, and labview dsc??

I am storing a block of data inside plc registers and reading this group into labview as a continuous set of datapoints. I am counting the number of scans in the plc and sometimes the number of points collected inside labview doesn't match.

To explain a a little bit about tag updating:
The LabVIEW DSC tag engine is not just updated on any change of the value within the plc. There are, in fact, several "deadbands" that must be crossed before those tags are updated:
    1) The OPC Server has a deadband - where the plc register value has to change a certain % before it is recorded.
    2) In the LabVIEW DSC moduel, there is an I/O Group Deadband that determines when the tag engine is actually updated.
Both of these deadbands must be satisfied before a new "value" is recorded in the LabVIEW DSC tag engine.
Therefore, I would check your OPC Server's deadband (configurable in the OPC Server configuration utility) and also the I/O Group deadband for those tags (configurable in the tag configuration
    editor).
If this doesn't resolve the issue, please let me know. Thanks.

  • How to read enumerated values from an OPC server via Datasocket

    Hi Labviewers,
I am using LV8.2 and I am trying to find if it is possible to read enumerations from an OPC server via Datasocket, not just the values.
I can successfully read a value for an OPC server via Datasocket and I get a value for example 3, is it possible to get the enumeration/string that corresponds to this value i.e. "Open".
    Many thanks in advance
    Dimitris

    Hi Sarah,
With the input type as variant I get the following response:
1                                     <-This is the current numeric value of the parameter
    4 Attribute(s):
       'Quality' -> 192
       'TimeHigh' -> 29861723
       'TimeLow' -> -665408304
       'Timestamp' -> 39.238E+3
With the Input set to         Enum constant I get no values or strings coming back. With the Input set to                Ring constant I just get the numeric value

  • Problems using Modbus TCP accessed by NI OPC Server

    Hi there,
i'm using NI OPC-Server to access a measurement module. The buildup is quite easy, my system with NI OPC, a modbus gate and there the module connected with RS485.
There's a thermocouple to provide me some sample data.
But there's the point. I know, my data is in the Holding Registers and I can access them, but every data type I'm trying doesn't bring my my data out, just any other (sometimes Huge with e34, sometimes very small like e-13...) sorts, i can't understand.
The type provided by the module should be single precision.
In Lookout the address used to be is 41000 in Labview it's just 999 and in the "target" OPC-Server I get some values at 401000 but not useful.
I also get the same results accessing 301000 in different types.
Read/Write or Read Only is equal.
I've tried to tell my OPC that the values are Strings, Floats, Words, BCD and all other possible ways OPC offers me, but nothing results in a usable temperature.
I hope I missed something and you could suggest it.
    Cateros
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

    Thanks for your reply.
in LabVIEW I'm using the provided Modbus Libraries. If I unbundle the Holding registers, my value appears at Holding Register [0], I'm type casting it to single and get the sample temperature. (Address 999->unbundle->typecast->value)
In NI OPC, I'm reading ( [depends on zero based addressing]  300999/301000 equal to 400999/401000) an already typecasted Holding Register [1] compared to LabVIEW (and the value changes in the second or third digit behind the comma and they are changing at the same time). Data type in the tag is float.
Another disturbing thing is even if I change in the options "using zero-based addressing in registers" my value does not change.
If I'm reading two addresses close to each other (as you mentioned 401000-401001) I'm getting an unknown data type and no results. How do I read multiple addresses without such errors? And how do I specify a special register to read?
Scaling should not be the problem, I am having three ways to get my value (FTP-Server on the gate (just a *.dat file with correct type), software the the module manufacturer (while measuring and configuring the module) and LabVIEW(as can be seen above)) .
Sadly, I have not found any useable modbus documentation about the module (just it can use modbus, you have the registers, you could read/write and fine)
When I'm adding a second couple to the module, in LabVIEW Values in Holding Register [2] and Holding Register [3] appear and are changing.

  • Do I need to buy OPS server for target PC to deploy my DSC application?

I'm planning to use LabView as SCADA system and distribute my application on several PCs. So, the plan is to have Engineering PC with LabView + DSC Module + OPC Server + Application Builder to design my applications.
As I understand, these are the steps to be taken, in order to deploy my application on standalone PC:
    On Engineering PC
    1) Configure OPC server with proper channel and tags.
    2) Include my OPC server as I/O Server into my LabView project.
    3) Create my Shared Variables (linked to my PLCs via mentioned I/O Server).
    4) Design my panels.
    5) Build my Application (with Shared Variable Deployment function).
    6) Build my Installer (if required).
    On Target PC:
    7) Install DSC Run-Time System.
    8) Deploy my Application.
Now, the question is - Will my Application (or Installer) include OPC Server or I have to buy it and install on each target PC?
In other words, will my application still be able to communicate to PLC without additional installation of OPC Server on that particular standalone target PC?

I dont use the DSC too much but this link might help

  • How do I browse an OPC Server's Namespace with Teststand ActiveX Steps?

    Hello
I use Teststand as the client of an OPC Connection. At the Moment I'm trying to realize an browse funktionality by using the "OPC Automation 2.0" automation server in the
    ActiveX adapter.
What I can create is the OPCBrowse object by using the "CreateBrowser" method. But then there's no method to browse the OPC server's namespace for the ItemID's.
Does someone have an idea how I can go on further?
    thx, Michael

For your information, there is a new TestStand Add-on "OPC DA Connect" which adds a StepType Palette dedicated to OPC Data Access.
You can configure each step by browsing the OPC servers on your network and browsing variables within these servers.
The browsing functionnality that you where looking for as been implemented in this toolkit.
    Hoping this helps.

  • Shared Variable Engine OPC Server & Matrikon OPC Explorer

    Hello All
I have a shared variable Engine OPC server running on my IPC. I am querying NI OPC Server through Matrikon OPC Client. My situation is if shared variable engine process is switched forcefully off (NI DSM) or communication between server and client is lost then client is crashing which is quite obvious. But the problem is if Server is Up again then the client is not connecting to server automatically.
First of all is it  possible, that if server is up again then it will try to send some signals to the priviously connected clients ? If yes then do i have to make changes in shared variable engine properties ? How i can do this ?
I hope you all will understand my problem, if not please post you doubts. I will try to clear my points.
    Thanks & Regrad´s

Hi, just now I face a similar problem. When clients restart connection, the variable engine crash, for now the only way founded is restart the program programmatically, but I'm interested in how fix that.

  • OPC Server PLC

    Hallo,
I am doing right now the tutorial from NI " Connect LabVIEW to Any PLC Using OPC". And the first capital was everything richt, "View Existing PLC Tags with NI OPC Servers 2012".
But in the second capital "Connect LabVIEW to OPC Tags by Creating an I/O Server" I can't get the picture as the 4. step "Select OPC Client in the Create New I/O Server Window and click Continue. ".
The problem is, there is no option for "National Instruments.NIOPCServers.V5" to choose by me. How can I get the pic as the tutorial?? Why I can't get the "configure OPC Client I/O setup" menu??
    My system:
    LV 2012,  Win7,
    Does somebody know the problem??
    Thanks a lot!
    Cabio

But I think my OPC Server is running, the tool OPC Quick Client can connect to server "National Instruments.NIOPCServers.V5", it is also showed in the Pic.
And I have fund a VI "C:\Program Files (x86)\National Instruments\LabVIEW 2011\vi.lib\variable\tagger\opcClient\GetOPCServerList.vi", this VI can find the "National Instruments.NIOPCServers.V5". But NI-DSM cant find it.
    I am confused~~~
