Open a form in enter_query mode
Qs no:1:- I want to open a form in enter_query mode.
Qs no:2 :- after they query 4 fields(blk1) ...depending on that the rest of the informative part of that form(blk2) gets populated.
Now user hit OK (push button).
Now all the fields should be blanked including those 4 fields and the informative part and the form should stay at enter_query mode.
FYI:- There is no master-detail relation between two blocks.blk2 gets populated when user puts data in the 4th field and press tab ...
I have written the code to populate the informative part in when-validate-trigger of the 4th text field.
How can I do that?
please suggest..

Hello,
Switch to enter query mode at the end of the When-New-Form-Instance trigger:
Go_Block('the_block_to_query');
do_key('enter_query');Francois

Open the form layout in input mode if no record exists in the VO?
Hi,
I am using
JDeveloper version: Studio Edition Version 10.1.3.1.0.3984
JHeadstart version: 10.1.3.1 Release 10.1.3.1.26
I have a group with Form Layout where Single-Row Insert allowed is true.
What I want to do is:
When I open this form in the browser, it will open with the existing record in the ViewObject associated with this form, if there is any record exists.
But if there is no record exists in the ViewObject, then it will open the form in input mode (user will not need to click the 'New' button to create a record).
I tried setting the property 'Auto Query?' to false. But in that case it opens the form in input mode all the time, it does not open with the existing record.
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks

This is not natively supported in the 10.1.3 releases of JHeadstart. Can you please ask this question at the JDeveloper forum at JDeveloper and ADF ?
You can use the JHeadstart templating to save your customizations of course, see the JHeadstart Dev Guide chapter on customization.
Thanks!

Alright, I have been through the entire board and found bit and pieces here and there on how to do this, but I am not satisfied with the results. Answers to these questions will dictate whether we use this product or not.
1) The QBE solution is great for the above EXCEPT I am unable (it seems) to make updates to the form portion of the Report/Form combination. I need to be able to lock off certain fields and disallow certain functions. Other's have asked whether this can be done. No answers issued forth.
Is there some way short of hacking into the PL/SQL code of updating the form on a wizard created QBE?
2) I was able to create my own report, link (via link object) to a custom form (update the form as I needed). Now I would like my users not to have to hit the query button (which is absurd in this case because they already have the proper record displayed). So I need to open the form in "update" mode. I have seen some different approaches to this on the board, and all kinds of code, but is there a simple way to do this (preferably from the tool, not hacking code)?
I see the code in the various posting (including the FAQ), the question is where I put in in the context of my link from report to form (if it is in the native pl/sql, this is not an answer because we will not go that route; having code blown away by the tool and have to be reentered. It goes in in the context of the tool or we don't use the tool).
Also, is there a way to utilize the "close" button from the QBE that so nicely takes you back to the report and does a refresh?
This is the simplest app I could dream up to test this product and it looks like it falls short.
In summation:
1) Generate a report. (yes)
2) Link to form (yes)
2a) Link direct to record (no query click) (no, without hacking)
3) update the form (yes, if after query click)
4) Jump back to report at spot where you left, do automatic refresh (just like QBE) (No, without hacking)
Again, this is the simplest and most common of apps, I cannot understand why it would be so hard to accomplish. What am I missing? Anybody on the board, please advise.
nullIf your report is created using ‘Reports From SQL Query’ then you can modify it using the following to achieve this:
1. Remove the link from ‘Column Formatting’ section of the report object.
2. In the SQL of the report , use custom link to the column where you want to provide link using the syntax
select a.empno,’‘||a.ename||’‘ ename_link,a.deptno
from scott.emp a
Order by a.empno
and the form will always open in ‘INSERT’ mode with passed values filled in.

Link Parameters from Report to Form in Insert Mode
It seems like it should be possible to use the Report wizard to add a link to a form, select some link parameters using the Edit Link function, and then when one clicks on the link it would open the form in insert mode with the link parameters filled in as defaults. Instead what happens is it tries to open the form in update mode with a row that matches the link parameters, and if it can't find a match it opens in insert mode with no parameters filled in. I want it to always open in insert mode and with the passed parameters filled in.
I've looked through all the documentation I have access to and have been through all the Portal FAQ's on OTN and can find nothing on this. There were a few questions in the FAQ's that told how to do it in PL/SQL, but I don't know how to get access to which instance of the link was selected by the user through PL/SQL, and it seems like there should be a way to do this from within the report wizard.
Any help you can give me would be greatly appreciated.

Open multiple forms, few in Enter-Query mode
Hi All,
I want to open multiple forms from a form using open_form built-in. If user clicks on different items of the parent form different child forms are invoked.
But if one child form is opened in Enter-Query mode (I have 'enter_query;' in its when-new-form-instance) it does not allow to put focus back on parent form and invoke other forms until I execute_query in child form or close the child form.
Waiting for your replies. Thanks in advance.

How to open an URL from Forms in blocking mode?
Can anyone tell me if it is possible to open a website from within forms in blocking mode? The reason why I have to use blocking mode is that the user has to take some action in the website and has to end that session explicitly with a button on the website. After that, a file is written on the server that is needed for further action. Without that file the process can't go on.
I use Forms (32-bits) versie 10.1.2.0.2.Thanks for your answer.
Your suggestion is only possible with a timer-trigger (correct me if I'm wrong). And that's the point.... The time the user can act in the website is unlimited. So, how to set up a timer-trigger? Another work around is to make a process that works at some time and searches for the files on the server. But that's not what we want to do.
Does anyone have another idea? -
Open a form in full Screen mode
Hi all,
I want to open a form in IE with full screen mode . Is it possible ?
Plz guide ....
Thankswhy do not u wanna use URL for that? ok open Formsweb.cfg in notepad and modify the URL section.
# Example Named Configuration Section
# Example 1: configuration to run forms in a separate browser window with
# "generic" look and feel (include "config=sepwin" in the URL)
# You may define your own specific, named configurations (sets of parameters)
# by adding special sections as illustrated in the following examples.
# Note that you need only specify the parameters you want to change. The
# default values (defined above) will be used for all other parameters.
# Use of a specific configuration can be requested by including the text
# "config=<your_config_name>" in the query string of the URL used to run
# a form. For example, to use the sepwin configuration, your could issue
*# a URL like "http://myhost.mydomain.com/forms/frmservlet?config=qatar".*

Opening Form in Insert mode but making a query at the same time
My problem is that I want to open a Portal Form in Insert mode but at the same time making a query.
If I call a form with patameters the form opens automatically in update mode (to be more precise with FORMSTATE = UPDATE_AND INSERT). In that case the insert button is not shown.
I have come very close to a solution by running this code:
BEGIN
p_session.set_value(
p_block_name => 'DEFAULT',
p_attribute_name => '_FORM_STATE',
p_value => 'QUERY_AND_INSERT');
END;
under "... before processing the form". The form-state changes to QUERY_AND_INSERT' and I get the record from the table that I want but I still see no insert button!
I think that I can solve this problem in some table-triggers in the database but it would be interesting to know weather it is possible to do this in the portal.Kari,
You can workaround the disappearing Insert button by creating a custom button instead.
If you look at the "standard" Insert button code it looks like this:
--- Type your PL/SQL code here...
doInsert;--- This is the default handler
--- ...and here, thanks...
in the generated forms package doInsert just calls internal insert handler:
procedure doINSERT
is
begin
onINSERT(
p_block_name => p_block_name ,
p_object_name => p_object_name,
p_instance => p_instance ,
p_event_type => p_event_type ,
p_user_args => p_user_args ,
p_session => p_session);
end doINSERT;
If you add a custom button to your form and from PLSQL event combobox select "Custom", then copy&paste this code to the event code:
onINSERT(
p_block_name => p_block_name ,
p_object_name => p_object_name,
p_instance => p_instance ,
p_event_type => p_event_type ,
p_user_args => p_user_args ,
p_session => p_session);
You will get a custom button which does exactly what the Insert button does and it will not disappear from the screen.
Thanks,

Exit from a Form in enter_query
hi there
i have a form (form6) with a master-detail.
the 2 blocks are table-based.
when the form open, it must be in enter_query mode, so in when-new-form-instance i wrote an enter_query.
how can i manage the exit form when it's in enter_query mode?
now i should press the key-exit 2 times...
thank youHello
after few attempts (the message "query cancelled" was still appearing), i solved putting this code in the key-exit trigger of the master block
declare
msglvl varchar2(3);
begin
msglvl := :system.message_level;
:system.message_level := 20;
if :system.mode = 'ENTER-QUERY' then
exit_form(NO_VALIDATE,FULL_ROLLBACK);
end if;
:system.message_level := msglvl;
EXIT_FORM(ASK_COMMIT,FULL_ROLLBACK);
end
thank you all
