[CSX] [JS] Where am I?

hi all,
i just checked the possibilities of ui scripting and i'm quite amazed what is possible without big fuzz...
but i can't realize how i can find the insertion point or current position in an open document from my script. i just think about sth like a user interface to with some buttons und text which will create a table or textblock at the current insertion point.
i guess i'm blind, but i can't find a way to find the current position in within the document ?!?
the scripting guide does only provide examples how to create new documents or textframes what isn't what i want to do.
any ideas?
thanks a lot,
gregor

Pieces of information missing from your message:
Version of InDesign.
Scripting language of choice.
The current selection, in any version of InDesign in JavaScript can be addressed by:
app.selection;
This is an array of all selected objects. If the selection is text, then it is an array of one object. When I'm writing a script that works on the current text selection, I always use this framework to kick things off:
if (app.documents.length > 0 &&
        app.selection.length == 1 &&
            app.selection[0].hasOwnProperty("baseline")) {
  processSelection(app.selection[0]);
function processSelection(myText) {
First, you have to make sure there is a document open, otherwise the attempt to address one of its members will fail. Then, for it to be text, there must be only one item selected, finally, if the selection is text, then it will have a baseline property that no other object has. So, if I get that far, I know that the selection is text (although it might yet be just an insertion point), and I can process it. Usually, I change the name of the "processSelection" function to match the actual purpose of the script.

  • DW CS5 - Split View annoyance

    Hello, everyone.
    For some reason, my DW has "Split Vertically" default selected every time DW loads.  When I want to split view, it's always initially vertically split.
    This is annoying me.  I would like for the split to be horizontal, always, and if I want a vertical split THEN I'll choose it.
    Can anyone tell me how to turn off the default setting for Vertical Split??
    Thank you,
    ^_^

    Is there a reghack that I can do to turn this default to off???
    YES, THERE IS!!!
    As always, the usual cautionary warning to back up your registry before making any edits to it.  The registry can really screw your day if you edit the wrong thing.
    Close DreamWeaver, if open.
    Click on Start > Run, and enter regedit in the field and hit ENTER.
    Navigate to HKEY_CURRENT_USER > Software > Adobe > Dreamweaver CSx > Settings (where x is the version of DW you have installed).
    In the right pane, locate SplitViewOrientation and double click it.
    Change the value from vertical to horizontal, save, exit regedit.  Open DW, open a file, click on VIEW, and "Split Vertically" will not be checked.

  • AAM 6.2 All - Download Error (U44M1I216) updating Adobe CSXS Infrastructure CS6

      I'm a CS6 Cloud subscriber running Win7 32-bit and have been having the general 'Download Error/Update Failed' issue with AAM since 12/15/2012.  I spent a couple of hours on the Live Chat line with an Adobe support person during which I downloaded and used the Cleaner; downloaded and installed the AAM 6.2 All package but continued to have the same issue 'Download Error/Update Filed' since.
      I believe that I made progress this morning after reading a post on the boards from a direct licensed user with a different AAM issue.  I used the Help/Update function of one of my CS applications which brought up an instance of AAM which, unlike the 'normal' System Tray version of AAM, didn't immediately go to the 'Download Error/Update Failed' state.  This instance of AAM presents both an About and Preferences buttons.  I pressed the Preferences button and this next screen showed the list of my applications and had both a Cancel and OK buttons.
      When I pressed the OK button, I got to another screen with the list of my applications and About, Preferences and Update buttons.  In addition to the list of my applications, each application had both a checkbox and an list expose button.  When I pressed the list expose button for each of my applications, I got a complete list of the updates - at the 'package/version level - that AAM 6.2 ALL was attempting to install on my machine in order to maintain all of my applications.
      I used that list to go to the Updates page on Adobe to find each of the listed package/version combo's that were listed by AAM 6.2:

      17-Feb-2013   5:38:10a          2,135   Adobe Prelude CS6 1.0.3 02-17-2013.log.gz
      I downloaded and installed each of those update packages, one by one, and wittled down the list of packages that AAM sensed as needing to be updated down to just the 'Adobe CSXS Infrastructure CS6' package - needed by both Photoshop and Prelude.
      I used the CSXS Infrastructure CS6 install log file - C:\Program Files\Common Files\Adobe\Installers - to confirm that the installation of the specific version that I had found was successful and it was:
    02/17/13 07:01:30:198 | [INFO] | | OOBE | DE | | | | 4576 | Successfully installed 1 component:
    02/17/13 07:01:30:198 | [INFO] | | OOBE | DE | | | | 4576 | - Adobe CSXS Infrastructure CS6_3.0.1_AdobeCSXSInfrastructure3-mul
      I assume that there must be a later update to the Adobe CSXS Infrastructure CS6 package that isn't yet posted on the general Update site for direct down load.  When I try to use the application specific instance of AAM to do the update of both Photoshop and Prelude with the version of CSXS that it senses is needed, I get the U44M1I216 error code in the AAM log.
      Does anyone know if there is a later version of CSXS that is being called for?  If so, do you have a link to where on the update site I can download it for direct update?
      Thanks,
      Frank

  • Installing a Loftek CSX 2200 IP camera.

    I am trying to install a Loftek CSX 2200 IP camera on my Mac Book Pro. The IP camera has a default IP address of 192.168.0.178
    I am using an Apple Time Capsule as my router. I have attached the IP camera to the routing using the ethernet cable but I cannot access the IP camera from the MacBook which is attached to the Time Capsule using the Thunderbolt ethernet cable.
    Information that I have found online indicates that I need to change the router IP address. Can anyone help? Thanks

    Hey Jimuth,
    Have you tried testing the available bandwidth for vlan 200? Many applications are available free of cost e.g. iperf.
    Also check for any output drops on interfaces on the switch where IP phones are connected and the uplink. You may have to tweak QoS buffers for uninterrupted service.
    HTH.
    Regards,
    RS.

  • Adobe CSXS infrastructure CS6 3.0.1 Update

    What does this CS6 Update do of fix and why is a system restart needed?

    Hi all, Firstly let me apologise for the confusion caused by this updates lack of descriptive text. I do not like applying updates without at least having some idea of what they do, so I went to the Engineering team responsible for the update to get a response and also created a blog post, the copy of which can be found below. We are working on getting the descriptive text applied as quickly as possible.
    http://blogs.adobe.com/cssdk/2012/05/about-the-csxs-infrastructure-updates-for-cs6.html
    About the CSXS Infrastructure 3.0.1 Updates
    Recently we posted updates for various CS6 applications called CSXS Infrastructure updates via the Adobe Application Manager. Unfortunately, there was no text describing what the update was for or indeed what CSXS was. Whilst we work to add in the descriptive text to the update, I wanted to provide some brief information for those that were curious as to what the update was about.
    CSXS is the platform that delivers extensibility within Creative Suite products. This update to the CSXS Infrastructure, resolves an issue where certain characters contained in a users Adobe ID caused a login failure.
    It’s only a very small update but an important one, so please apply the update if you are a CS6 user, now that you know what it’s for.

  • Where are the brushes stored other than presets brushes

    I have installed an abundance of brushes usually by double clickling from the download folder, and now I want to back them up. I have ran .abr spotlight searches and found nothing; they are also not in the photoshop > presets > brushes folder. Only the stock brushes are in there. Where can they be??
    I'm on mac osx by the way. Thank you!

    I did some of  my own research on this, and found this useful link:
    http://www.creativepro.com/article/photoshop-brushes-frequently-asked-questions
    Follow these instructions to install brush sets:
    1. Download or move the .ABR file to a permanent location on your computer. This could be into the Photoshop Brushes folder (full paths below) or a central location you create for Photoshop brushes. To place it in Photoshop’s existing brush folder, move or copy the .ABR file to:
    Windows: C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Photoshop CSx\Presets\Brushes\
    Mac OSX: Applications/Adobe Photoshop CSx/Presets/Brushes/
    2. Open Photoshop and select the Brush tool.
    3. On the Options bar, click the down arrow beside the brush shape preview. This will open the controls for brushes.
    4. From the brush control popup, click the right-facing arrow in the top right corner and select Load Brushes or Replace Brushes.
    5. When the Load Brushes dialog appears, navigate to the location where you placed the .ABR file and then open that file.
    6. If you chose the Replace Brushes command, Photoshop will remove any existing brushes from the Brushes palette, leaving you with only the newly loaded set. However, if you chose the Load Brushes command, Photoshop will add the new brush set to the end of the list of brushes.
    7. Start brushing!

  • CS5 CSXS Logger errors

    Hello,
    I'm running into errors when using my Photoshop panel in CS5. I've been using trials of Flash Builder 4 on various machines and each time I have to set the environment up I seem to run into new issues. As of the last machine I was on, it was functioning fine in both CS4 & 5, but on this machine running the panel in CS5 outputs:
    3/9/2011 07:50:16.600 [DEBUG] com.adobe.csxs.external.CommunicationUtils [DispatchingRequest functionName="findMiddleSuspender" params="true|true"]
    3/9/2011 07:50:16.600 [ERROR] com.adobe.csxs.external.CommunicationUtils [Error in request data, it is null where some data is expected ]
    3/9/2011 07:50:16.601 [INFO] com.adobe.csxs.external.CommunicationUtils [RequestResult after parsing result="[RequestResult status="RequestResultInvalid" data=null]" ]
    3/9/2011 07:50:16.602 [DEBUG] com.adobe.csxs.external.CommunicationUtils [Result="[RequestResult status="RequestResultInvalid" data=null]"]
    I can't find any documentation on external.CommunicationUtils, so I'm not sure at what point the error is being thrown.
    The function call (mxml):
    private function findMiddle_StageBoth(event:Event):void {
       CSXSInterface.instance.evalScript("findMiddleSuspender", "true|true");
    The function (jsx):
    function findMiddleSuspender (a) {
       app.activeDocument.suspendHistory("Find Middle", "findMiddle(a)");
       // All the parameter parsing happens in the next function. I left this in here for reference, but even something as simple as alert(a) throws the error. I'm not sure where that means the script is having problems.
    In an attempt to try to figure out where the error is actually happening, I stripped the functions down to bare bones:
    (mxml):
    private function findMiddle_StageBoth(event:Event):void {
       CSXSInterface.instance.evalScript("findMiddleSuspender");
    (jsx):
    function findMiddleSuspender () {
       alert('Foo')
    and it still gave me the "some data is expected" error, which leads me to believe it's not my functions that are the problem.
    My current setup:
    • Flash Builder 4
    • SDK: CS Flex SDK 3.4.0 (Also tried Flex 3.5 and Flex 4)
    • Libs: CSXSLibrary.swc (Don't recall where I got it. CSXSLibrary-2.0-sdk-3.4-public.swc that comes with the SDK and Panel Dev Guide both cause errors with the Air Logger)

    Maybe you should also post there

  • Purpose of the csx folder in Azure projects?

    I'm fairly new to Azure but I noticed that Visual Studio auto-creates the following folders (among others)
    /<nameOfAzureProject>/bin
    /<nameOfAzureProject>/obj
    /<nameOfAzureProject>/csx <==
    Now the bin and obj folders are fairly standard. But I'm not clear about the purpose of the csx folder. Any ideas?

  • Where Do You Put The Un-Ziped Files For...

    The manual is unclear.
    Where Do You Put The Un-Ziped Files for Contact Sheet X in CS4.

    CSX v1.4.2 README
    INSTALLATION:
    If there are previous versions of CSX, be sure to remove them at
    this time. Failure to do so may result in 'Copy' errors during installation.
    Unzip the CSX zip file into a temporary directory. It's location is
    unimportant EXCEPT DO NOT unzip it anywhere your Photoshop application tree.
    Run the InstallCSX script in the top-level directory. You can do this by:
    1) double clicking it
    2) dragging it onto a PS application
    3) running it from inside PS via File->Scripts->Browse
    If your OS is Vista, you will probably need to start Photoshop using
    'Run as administrator' because the installation script needs to install
    CSX into Photoshop folders that are normally protected.
    If you have more than one installation of Photoshop on your computer, you'll
    need to run the installation script for each copy of Photoshop.
    When the installation is complete, you can removed the contents that you
    unzipped before.
    MANUAL INSTALLATION:
    You don't need to do this if you ran the InstallCSX script.
    If there are previous versions of this script, be sure to remove them at
    this time.
    Unzip the distrubution file in your Photoshop Presets/Scripts directory and
    restart Photoshop. "CSX-1_4_2.jsx" should appear in your File->Scripts menu
    in CS2.
    With CS3 and CS4, CSX should appear under File->Automate menu as
    'Contact Sheet X v1.4.2...'.

  • Where are the Extensions for Creative Suite 4?

    it's all in the title, where are the Extensions for Creative Suite 4? CS4 or CS3 or AS2 or AS3...

    Hi Patricia,
    In order to support the new Omniture workflows, we had to use some new CSXS features and Flash Pro features that were implemented in CS5 only for these extensions to work. Specifically, in Flash Pro, to enable new communication workflows between the design view and CSXS panels, we've introduced several new events that are triggered from design view to update the panels.
    We cannot backport these events to CS4, as this would be a very costly endeavor with limited applicability. In order to use the extensions, we recommend you moving to CS5. Aside from the extensions, you'll get also more than 250 great features, more speed, etc.
    Regarding the AS2 or AS3 support - we have both for the Flash Pro Test&Target extension, and we only support AS3 for the SiteCatalyst extension.
    I hope this helps,
    Sincerely,
    Alexandru

  • CSXS standardized event list documentation?

    Hi guys
    In this article
    http://blogs.adobe.com/cssdk/2010/12/watching-the-detections.html
    Olav mentions
    "Because CS extensions are built on top of CSXS (Adobe’s Creative Suite Extensible Services framework), they can make use of CSXS “standardized” events. - See more at: http://blogs.adobe.com/cssdk/2010/12/watching-the-detections.html#sthash.MH4MhcYc.dpuf"
    And lists a few events like "documentAfterActivate" etc
    Does anyone know where is the documentation for these events?
    Are there any other events except those he lists? like "documentBeforeSave" or "documentBeforeDeactivate"?
    Thanks

    Hi BaconOppenheim,
    If you're using Extension Builder version 2.x, you can go to the CS Extension Builder Start Page, then click Docs and API Reference. You might have to do this several times--there seems to be something wrong, somewhere (I'm not at Adobe any more, so I have no idea). Once you get the documentation page opened, take a look at Adobe Creative Suite Extension Builder>References>CSXS Library Reference>com.adobe.csxs.core>CS Extension and scroll down to the Events section. It's a bit scanty, but it's better than nothing. There are a few other event topics in the CSXS Library Reference section, such as com.adobe.csxs.events.
    The applications themselves have different set of events--take a look at the CSHA Library API Reference for more on application-specific events.
    All of this changes, of course, with Extension Builder 3. If you're using that version, it's probably easiest just to root around in the CSInterface-4.0.0.js file. There's not much in the way of documentation or samples around for that version yet. I have not yet figured out how to connect to an application-specific event in that version, but I haven't tried very hard to figure it out.
    Thanks,
    Ole

  • CSXS evalscript Not Working

    I want to use the CSXS library to call the Javascript DOM for Photoshop. It passes just a single string parameter that bundles up several parameters by separating them with commas.
    This is the Action Script call:
    CSXSInterface.instance.evalScript("applyUnsharpMaskFilter", params);
    This is the Javascrpt call:
    function applyUnsharpMaskFilter(params){
    var paramsTokens = params.split(",");
    amount = parseInt(paramsTokens[0]);
    radius = parseFloat(paramsTokens[1]);
    threshold = parseInt(paramsTokens[2]);
    blend = parseInt(paramsTokens[3]);
    opacity = parseInt(paramsTokens[4]);
    sharpenBlendIf1 = parseInt(paramsTokens[5]);
    sharpenBlendIf2 = parseInt(paramsTokens[6]);
    sharpenBlendIf3 = parseInt(paramsTokens[7]);
    sharpenBlendIf4 = parseInt(paramsTokens[8]);
    underlyingBlendIf1 = parseInt(paramsTokens[9]);
    underlyingBlendIf2 = parseInt(paramsTokens[10]);
    underlyingBlendIf3 = parseInt(paramsTokens[11]);
    underlyingBlendIf4 = parseInt(paramsTokens[12]);
    if (app.activeDocument.activeLayer.name == "TLR Pro USM") updateUSMLayer(amount, radius, threshold);
    else addUSMLayer(amount, radius, threshold);
    setBlendMode(blend);
    setOpacity(opacity)
    setBlendIfs(sharpenBlendIf1, sharpenBlendIf2, sharpenBlendIf3, sharpenBlendIf4,
         underlyingBlendIf1, underlyingBlendIf2, underlyingBlendIf3, underlyingBlendIf4);
    The AIR logger indicates an error in com.adobe.csxs.external.CommunicationUtils
    Here is the logger result:

    9/15/2009 21:24:27.925 [DEBUG] com.adobe.csxs.external.CommunicationUtils [Result="[RequestResult status="RequestResultInvalid" data=null]"]
    The params string is being read. That's the value that should be passed. Why the error in CommunicationUtils? Any idea?
    Mitch

    I tried using both the CSXS library and the PatchPanel library to get the comparative advantages of both. They seem to peacefully coexist.

  • I just want to keep CSx updated and continue to use it like I have been.

    I'm an individual.. One computer!, no team or bank of computers... Just me..
    I don't need a cloud! I don't want a cloud!
    I just want to keep CSx updated. and continue to use it like I have been.
    Cost me about $600 every other year to keep this updated.
    I can afford $600/every other year.
    What do I need to do to keep using The Design Premium CSx ??

    Short answer:   You are [or eventually will be] outdated and out of luck.
    I've been a master collection user since it's been availaboe, but I've been struggling with this and other questions, and have come to the conclusion that I need to be proactive in looking for alternatives, so when the day comes that CS6 stops working on new hardware, I'll have options.
    My biggest concern is that with the current CC model, if a user decides to stop, or can't afford, their subscription fee, thirty days later they loose access to ALL THEIR CREATIVE WORK-- without monthly activation,  all the CC software STOPS WORKING!
    Moreover, after everyone is on the CC hook, what is to stop Adobe from charging $100 per month, or $300....  As a huge company driven by investors and quarterly profits they will charge whatever the market will bear.  Many will be held hostage to the subscription fee, no matter how high it goes, because they won't be able to afford to loose access their creative work.  So... going forward the market will probably bear a lot more than $49 per month.
    Then, if this wasn't enough risk, there is also the dependence on the web and Adobe's IT infrastructure to keep the software "activated".  I know it is probably extremely unlikely, but what if they suffer a cyber-attack like many other large and theoretically "secure" companies?  What kind of havoc could an attacker wreak with the creative community if suddenly all our software stopped working?  You may laugh, but I just read an article today on cNet Security about how Twitter's domain registration was hacked by SEA-- at least for a brief time, SEA was the admin for the Twitter domain records.
    Since hearing Adobe's plans, I realised that over the years, with the exception of 3D, I've gravitated to Adobe for all my creative work-- they really do make great software.  Even though this represents a huge investment in time and "learning curve", I've started to seriously evaluate alternatives.  When the day comes that CS6 is no longer working on new hardware, I hopefully will already be using other brands.
    My current thinking:  If Apple makes FCP 11 a professional tool again, that would be my first choice for video.  If they don't, I've been taking a hard look at Sony Vegas-- or there is always Avid.  For compositing, while I really know and love After Effects, I have a copy of Eyeon's Digital Fusion that came free with Lightwave3D that I've never even installed.  It is now out of the closet and sitting on my desk, waiting until I have a few minutes to install it to give it a try.  For photo editing and vector graphics, I've been looking at the Corel suite-- I haven't used Corel in years, as it always seemed "clunky" compared to Illustrator,  but it is a viable alternative, and used and loved by many.  Photoshop is an industry standard and I've used it for fifteen years, but I also have both Gimp and Cinepaint on Mac, and use them frequently already.  They aren't as capable or as slick as Photoshop, but they do everything I need, so photo editing is covered.  As far as web tools, Dreamweaver is nice, but web development can be done with any editor.  Flash (and all browser plugin technology) is being supplanted by HTML5 and Javascript, so loosing Flash, going forward, is no great loss.  I haven't used it in over a year anyway, but f I really need 2D animation there is always (gasp) Silverlight, and maybe also other tools that I'm currently unaware of.  InDesign isn't a concern for me as I almost never do print.
    So bottom line for me:   If Adobe works out a compromise where the software keeps working even if the subscription lapses, then it would be a different ballgame for me. I'd even be willing to agree to pay two or three year contract before the perpetual license kicked in.  However, as it stands, the CC subscription (and potentially vanishing software) represents a level of trust in Adobe that I'm not prepared to give.

    There is no change to this problem after 6 months since the last post. Put simply, and as stated in the previous posts, there is no way to scan a document and receive the image on your PC. If you are working with graphics for any length of time or want to create an image for inclusion as an image in a document or web page using this piece of equipment will not allow you to do so.
    Great shame as every other function works well - it cannot be beyond the wit of HP to include a Windows application that enables you to scan an image, receive it in the software you are using at the time (e.g. Outlook, Word, Photoshop...) and use it in your work.
    HP Printers several years older than this £1000+ Enterprise printer were able to do this simple job and have done so for a great many years. Just being able to use Microsoft's Fax and Scan would be start.
