Open sessions in Logic Pro by (default) instead of logic express
Hello , I just upgraded from logic express 7.2 to logic Pro 7.2 and my sessions are still opening in logic express as the default app. Is there any way to have them open in logic pro automatically?
thanx alot , that did it .Im glad I joined and
posted because I was about to delete the Logic
express app . but thanx again for the reply and
hospitality .
CB, Hi, I am thinking of doing the same upgrade as yourself. Now that you have the answer to your problem, is the 'transfer' of songs from Express to Pro 'seamless'. I.e. I take it that there are no problems transferring work done in Express to Pro? Like yourself, I am a relative newcomer to this forum etc

I just upgraded from Logic Express to Pro. When I open a project in Finder and neither Express nor Pro are running, it always opens in Express. I now want projects to open in Pro. "Open With ..." says Express is the default. How can I make Pro the default instead?
Well, when I've done things like that it always sems like a good idea to keep an application that you know the file will definitely open in...

MOTU 828Mk3 & Logic Pro's default audio outputs
Hello people! Well, I received my MOTU 828Mk3 a couple of days ago and am very pleased with it so far, sonically much better than the Mk2 however I'm slightly frustrated with the default audio out in logic pro. The 828 is set-up fine with the default audio out set to master out, itunes etc all work fine but within logic pro the default output is analog 1-2, the master outputs are 9-10. So every-time I create a new project I have to select 9-10 as the output, I can live with that but if you drag any samples/loops into a project the output of the new track defaults to analog 1-2, bit of a pain. So my question is - Is there any way you can tell logic to use a default pair of outputs?
Cheers
PaulYou should be able to set the main outputs to be 1 and 2 in the MOTU setup app. I've done that with my 896mk3 and it works as expected. It just means that the outputs 1-8 on the unit are actually 3-10 in Logic.

Logic Pro 7.2.3 to Logic Studio
I bought the upgrade from Logic Pro 7.2.3 to Logic Studio,
going to install Logic Studio on my new iMAC.
I have one Logic Pro 7. XKey, can I install Logic Studio on new iMAC,
but a week to continue to work with my old computer and Logic Pro?
old iMac Mac OS X Tiger Version 10.4.11.
Logic Pro 7.2.3
new iMAC 2.7 GHz Intel Core i5
Mac OS X Lion 10.7.2
Logic Studio upgrade pro V2.1
borisHi
Should work OK:
You will may need the XS key in the new Mac when you do the install, but after that you should be OK to move the key back to the old Mac.
(Not so sure that this would be within the Licence Agreement though).

Logic froze while I was working on something so I forced quit. Now every time I open LOGIC a message pops up that says:
"Error reading/writing file
“com.apple.logic.pro.cs”:
Logical end-of-file reached during read operation."
The only button option is cancel so I press it and another message appears that says:
"The Preferences are not loaded completely.
Do not save them, as you would overwrite the Preferences file with incomplete data."
Then when i close logic a box appears saying:
"The Preferences are not loaded completely.
Save them to "com.apple.logic.pro.cs" anyway?"
There are 3 button options to press; ok, cancel or dont save.
I press "don’t save" cuz I don't want to ruin anything.
I found a discussion located here: https://discussions.apple.com/message/9564253#9564253 that says if I delete the file "com.apple.logic.pro.cs" it will resolve the problem. If I do this will I loose or mess anything up at all, automation, saved channel strips customizations, saved effects, synth, or ultrabeat customizations etc? Or especially will I loose any work I've done? I have hundreds pieces of music files I've created. I'm scared to mess anything up with all the hours and months of work I've done. Is there anyway to fix this without loosing anything? I'm using Logic Pro 8.
Thank youYou can safely delete this file - its the preference file for control surface settings - you haven't said whether you're actually using a control surface or not, if so, you will have to set it up again. A new file will be created when you fire Logic up again, but of course it will contain default settings. If you have a complicated control surface setup, remember to keep a backup copy somewhere in case any future problems arise.
Other than that, you really have nothing to be scared about - hopefully your problem is as simple as that and there isn't an underlying problem (a corrupt hard drive, for example). You seem concerned about losing work, so I guess you want to think about backing that up on a regular basis too. If you're saving your projects to your system drive, do get an external one for this. And also check that you have plent of free space on your system drive - you need to keep about a quarter or third of it free for your OS and programs to run properly (some temporarily stored files can be quite large). -
Logic Pro from app store with Logic Express installed
Hi there!
Does anybody know what happens if I install Logic Pro from the Mac App Store while Logic Express is already installed? Will this drag me derectly into dependency **** or can the two coexist?
Because I really wouldn't want to wreck my working Logic Express Setup by installing Logic Pro...
Cheers
VolkerHi
It should work fine, with the exception that opening projects via the Finder may open Express rather than Pro (easily fixed).

Logic Pro X - Record in time - Logic moves audio automatically out of time
I have a mac book pro
OSX Version 10.8.4
2.3 Ghz intel core i5 processor
8 GB memory 1333 MHz DDR3
Latest version of Logic Pro x
When I record an audio track using the mac book pros built in microphone, I sing or play an acoustic part in time (yes in time, I'm not dodgy time-wise!)
But when I play back the audio, Logic has shifted the audio file to be out of time by some way, from the click
- it also does this when I connect up my mbox 2
any ideas anyone?Sounds like you are not monitoring through your soundcard or logic and the latency of your audiobox/soundcard is placing the recording too late. Try to reduce the buffer to 256 or 128 in your mbox mix display, and use software monitoring if you can.

I have multiple versions of Logic Pro on my computer. Both seem to work the same. Plus I have 2 logic nodes. Should I delete one and which one? Any suggestions? Thanks
9.1.3 is the current version.
Delete any other versions you have and don't want. -
Recovering Deleted Logic Pro 8 Project files with .logic extension
I've been trying to recover a project file I accidentally deleted from Logic Pro 8 for a few days now. I'm using FileSalvage and all that comes up are the older Logic files with the .lso extension - some from as far back as 9 months ago. But no files with the .logic extension have appeared.
The file I'm looking for was dragged into my trash on November 2 from my media drive (internal HDD #2) and I have barely used that drive since because I don't want to fragment the deleted file.
I realize that the new .logic files are bundles and when I show package contents, there are 2 files that show up.
Any ideas on how I can recover this file?I was waiting for some ******* to respond to my post with a lecturing. Thanks for not disappointing me Christian.
I back up all 4 of my internal drives several times a day with SuperDuper. I also back up off site with Carbonite.com It's saved me from hard drive failure once. This is the first time in over a decade that I cannot find a file that I suspect I deleted by accident. That's a pretty good track record. I'm doing the best that I can with what I have.
Now here's a strategy for you to keep you "on the clever side" Christian: If you don't have a solution to a problem posted on here, don't bother posting your judgmental and arrogant ******** without knowing the entire situation of the person who's asking for help. -
Logic Pro doesn't seem so logical...
I need to import a CD track into Logic so I can cut and edit it. I can't figure it out. I've managed to bring the audio track from my CD to itunes and then import it into logic, but I have no idea how in the world to manipulate, cut and past, etc.
The CD track is over an hour in length and when I import it to the arrangement, I see a small indicator in the track. There's no wave file imaged and I can't seem to copy and paste anything from it.
RTFM...I know. The problem I'm seeing here is that the manual was not very well written for quick reference. I dove into my software package to find the manual only to see a plug-in reference and no manual for Logic. Oh that's right, it's all online. What a pain. I need a book next to me to read while I work with Logic, This switching between windows is annoying, especially with a trackpad.
Anyway, when I double click the region, which only takes up one beat of the first measure of the song, I get a full image of the audio file which is the same little window I get when I double click on the file in the project manager (which I have yet to understand completely). In this, is a submenu which allows me to do various stuff. I have selected a given range in the audio clip, and I want to copy it to another region on audio track 2. I would logically just drag the selection to the arrangement window, but that doesn't work. If I click audio 2 on the arrangement window and paste, something happens, but nothing that I can figure to edit.
It's driving me mad. Sonar was so much more intuitive.Or I'm just a complete idiot. There is a page in the RM that says that when an audio file is dragged and dropped into the arrangement, it creates a small pointer region but doesn't show the entire waveform of the audio. How am I supposed to edit the audio that I've imported if I cannot see the rest of the region which would normally have been there if I had recorded directly to the track?
Is there a way to expand the region's view to match the length of the audio file? -
Can anyone help me? Every time i try to open logic pro 9 i get a box telling me logic wants to download a 2G basic content download, but even when it completes, on trying to open Logic it re-appearres and I cant get into Logic.Doesn't appear in downloads, very confusing!!
Try manually downloading and then installing the additional content using this link instead....
http://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/2972851/logic-downloads-fixed.html
Note: For anyone else reading this.. This link is for the additional content for Logic Pro 9 and not for Logic Pro X.
Remember to quit Logic Pro 9 prior to installing any additional content files.
If you find you have problems downloading the files from this link you may need to also use JDownloader 2 beta to help you...
http://jdownloader.org/download/offline
Despite the warning notice that it is a Beta product, it works very well... Just remember you have to install Java first, if you haven't done so already. -

Stein JohnsenI'm experiencing exactly the same issue... fresh install of Logic Pro, fresh update of Mountain Lion, everything up-to-date. Logic Pro crashes on start every time. I've trolled a number of forums and seen lots of references to ProKit.framework being the culprit. Some recommend downgrading this, but then there could be trouble with iPhoto and other apps. Some recommend waiting for the next OS update. I can't find a conclusive solution.

Logic Pro X crash while opening project
Hello all,
Using Logic since 9 came out. Saw that X was released so I figured I'd do it right...new SSD OS X drive, clean install of Mountain Lion 10.8, maxed out my 12 core Mac Pro with 64 GB ram, downloaded the new Logic Pro X, re-installed my Native Instruments Komplete 8 bundle. I've been using it trouble-free now for about a week, and loving the update. Until now.
One of my projects crashed and now it won't re-open.
I tried re-booting.
I trashed my preference files and restarted.
I can open Logic Pro, and other project files OK. I opened the Audio Units Manager and disabled ALL plugins, Quit Logic and restarted. Still crashes when opening this project file.
If it's not the plugins, and Logic is working fine otherwise, it must be something to do with a particular audio file within the bin. So I moved the Audio Files folder to my desktop and Skipped the locate files option. Still crashes.
All software is up to date. Any suggestions? Here's the most recent crash report, after disabling all plugins and moving the audio files:

Hello all,
One of my projects crashed and now it won't re-open.
I tried re-booting.
I trashed my preference files and restarted.
I can open Logic Pro, and other project files OK. I opened the Audio Units Manager and disabled ALL plugins, Quit Logic and restarted. Still crashes when opening this project file.
Hi, it looks like a Project file corruption from what you are writing.
Let's try one more thing before going any further!
We will disable the Audio Drivers:
Hold down Control immediately (NOT TOGETHER) after clicking Logic in your Dock.
A dialog will open :
Press "Don't".
Does the problematic project open? -
Logic Pro 8 Won't Open. Crashes EVERY time.
I'm running Logic Pro 8.0.2 and Logic Pro X on Maverick. I have a lot of songs that only open in 8 but my computer crashes every time it tries to open any of the files. I can't seem to get anything open and these files are VERY important. PLEASE help!
I've tried opening while holding the alt/option key. Doesn't open a blank template. I've restarted my computer. I've looked everywhere online. Can't seem to find help.
Thanks for your time.
tLogic Pro 8 itself doesn't work correctly with Mavericks... All sorts of weird behaviour can occur.... as it is no longer supported under that OS X version.
You can try to open the LP8 projects in LPX itself but note, any 32bit plugins and other LP8/9 only features used in your LP8 projects.. will no longer work in LPX
Solutions?
Roll back using your backups, to Mountain Lion.. where LPX and LP8 will continue to run side by side.... (You did make backups before you upgraded to Mavericks, yes?)
or....
Create a external boot disk for running Mountain Lion and install LP8 on that.. so you can boot to your internal Mavericks system disk to run LPX and boot to your external ML system disk when you wish to use LP8 -
Logic Pro 9.1.8 on ML Crashes after restore to new computer
Hi
I have just upgraded my computer from a Mac OS X 10.6.8 (SL) 2009 Intel Core 2 Duo iMac to a Mac OS X 10.8.2 (ML) 2013 Intel Core i7 iMac, and instead of doing a reinstall of my SW, I restored my previous software and data from the latest Time Machine Backup of my old iMac. Unfortunately, this did not work as expected, as many files were not copied to the right place. Especially some of the Library/Application Support files had to be manually copied from the Time Machine backup.
Most of my earlier projects now seem fine, but Logic keeps on crashing. One way of provoking a crash, is to start Logic with no projects. The select the Preferences Pane. If I then click on the Sharing Icon to the right Logic Crashes every time (Logic Pro->Preferences->Sharing...). I have tried to run Logic in both 32 bit and 64 bit modes, with the same behaviour, and I have tried to open Logic without the Core Audio Driver, also with the same result.
I have also tried using built-in input/output instead of using the duet 2 USB from Apogee.
Could someone please guide me in troubleshooting/solving this issue?
Could it be a licensing issue, as I have just copied the Logic Files from the Time Machine backup of my old iMac?
The computer name is the same as my old iMac.
Would highly appreciate any assistance.Hi
Step 1 would be to check if you have corrupted preferences:
Quit Logic
Go to the <User>:Library:Preferences (note that the User Library is hidden by default in MLion, so use the Finder:Go menu whilst holding down Option to get there).
Find the Logic Pro preferences file:
com.apple.logic.pro.plist
Move this file to the Desktop, and restart Logic
Any better?
