Openbox + firefox + certain pages: kills X (?)

Hi!
I am using arch, openbox, firefox... up to date....
A few weeks ago I realiced that certain page in dealextreme.com was killing X (I tried to see it 4 times)... it was not too important, so "I continued the show"
Now, I have found another page (this time a public page)... here it is: http://gotchance.com/demos/z-index/
when I try to see it in firefox X gets killed, and slim shows up...
It only happens with firefox... that page is only html+css... no flash, etc...
any idea? what to see/search for?

my openbox is a 3.4.11.2-2 version
maybe a video issue? here my conf (it is a laptop, vostro 1710)

The url is sometingh like this (this is correctly loaded, but it could be longer)

Firefox should have problems with long GET data appended to an URL (long would be over 64k). 
If there are problems then it is possible that an extension is the cause of that.
Start Firefox in [[Safe Mode]] to check if one of your add-ons is causing your problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Tools > Add-ons > Themes).

Firefox not loading images on certain pages

All of a sudden, Firefox no longer loads images on certain pages. I updated to 32.0.3. yesterday so thought that was the problem. I uninstalled and reinstalled 32.0.3. but that didn't help. I deactived the add-ons, but that didn't help either. I then installed FF 31, but the problem persists. I don't have the problem with Safari.
I'm lost ….
P.S. I had to upload the image via Safari, didn't work via Firefox

Your System Details list shows that you were only allowing images from the originating page and were blocking third-party images hosted on other servers.
*permissions.default.image: 3
These days a lot of sites store content on other dedicated servers, so it is best to leave such a setting at its default of 1 to allow all images.

I am unable to open certain pages on sites. I have to switch over to IE because the new Firefox update is not accomodated on their websites! When will this be fixed... sites included Ameritrade, FAFSA, and others...

First and foremost, you should update to 3.6.17 because the version you're running at the moment is insecure and exposes your system to attack. Update via '''Help '''| '''Check For Updates'''.
That may even fix the problem since several minor bugs were also fixed in later versions.
Similarly, after updating, go to the [http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/plugincheck/ Plugins Check] page and update those which are necessary.
If the problem persists, try running Firefox in [[Safe Mode]]. If it functions properly in that configuration, then one of your add-ons is the culprit.
I didn't experience a problem myself accessing any of those sites you mentioned. See screenshot.

Firefox stops working when I use the password manager on certain pages

Hey.
When I visit certain pages, Firefox will consistently crash. One of these pages for example is:
betabrand.com
The moment the password manager window jumps up, the window hangs and Firefox stops. It also happens randomly on other pages including
gmail.com
Sometimes, though not always, a script error will appear that says that googletag has stopped working. I don't know what that is and have tried debugging, stopping the script and just continuing. No real effect. Firefox still crashes after trying each in turn.
Firefox will also crash if I try to access the options window.
I have tried:
1. uninstalling firefox and reinstalling fresh. No result.
2. disabling all addons (addons I use are: addblock plus 2.6.5 - Clean Links 2.6.1.0 - Myibidder 1.3.7 and Web Of Trust 20131118). Firefox will function without crashing once I do this but I cannot identify whcih addon is causing the problem because it functions well on each occassion when I cycle through and disable them one by one.
My system specs are:
i7 @ 3.4g
4gig ram
Win7 32
FF crashed while terying to install the troubleshooter addon.

You can have infinite tabs opening if you have selected Firefox as the application to handle a file if you get an ''Open with'' download window.
Firefox should not be selected as the application to handle a file and you have to remove the action that is associated with that file type.
You can delete [http://kb.mozillazine.org/mimeTypes.rdf mimeTypes.rdf] in the [http://kb.mozillazine.org/Profile_folder_-_Firefox Profile Folder] to reset all actions or set that action in Firefox > Preferences > Applications to 'Always Ask'.

Does anyone know why safari and firefox won't load certain pages

I can't get safari and firefox to load certain pages. For me it's a website programme that i'm using. I can get into the programme but then certain pages won't load. This suddenly happened about 3 weeks ago with Safari. I then loaded Firefox and it worked fine for a few days and now i'm having the same problem and it's the same pages that won't open. I also have trouble getting other sites to load completely, such as this site. It's so frustrating as i can't finish building my website and my laptop is only new!

I can go into their website, cloudaccess and use that properly. I just can't use my own website properly. When i say website, my site isn't yet built. The site i'm trying to access is the backend of joomla. I can't load it and use some of it but not all of it.
I can access the site through my old laptop (and use it fully) which is a windows one but i can't access it via this one. I thought it was a cloudaccess problem but seeing as it's only my mac i can't access it through, i'm presuming it's my computer. I also tried it through firefox and explorer on my windows laptop and it was fine. It was ok on this laptop until a few weeks ago when it suddenly wouldn't load properly

The crash reports indicates the crashes may be caused by a file named mcbrwctl.dll, that file is part of McAfee Site Advisor. Try disabling the McAfee Site Advisor to see if that stops the crashes.
To do that, in the Tools menu select Add-ons to open the add-ons manager. Select the Extensions panel, then in the list of extensions select McAfee Site Advisor then click on the Disable button. Re-start Firefox to complete the process.
For info McAfee Site Advisor has caused various problems with Firefox for quite a few people.

Can character encoding be predefined for certain pages?

Certain pages that I visit frequently require me to manually set my character encoding to Western (ISO Latin 1), both when my default character encoding is set as UTF-8 and Western (ISO Latin 1).
As the pages that show up malformed are embedded in other frames I suspect that the top frame forces a different encoding than is on the embedded page.
An example page is here (847.is). The topic list of this message board is in order, but when any one of the topics is viewed all accented and special characters are missing, until Western (ISO Latin 1) is manually set as the character encoding. Similarly, opening any of the topics in a tab will result in missing characters.
Is there some way for me to circumvent having to go through all those menus to set it? Can I somehow define that these pages should be viewed in Western (ISO Latin 1) or can I set a keyboard shortcut for Western (ISO Latin 1)?

That page has no charset in the source and thus should only display correctly if you have Latin-1 set as the browser default. With UTF-8 set as the default you should see (in Safari) a ton of black diamonds with question marks inside.

Actually, if I set Opera encoding to UTF-8 it

This indicates it is a system issue rather than Safari. Sorry I can't duplicate it and have no good idea what could cause it on a normal system. Have you (or the place where you buy your machines) by chance installed any special software add-ons to enable the use of non-Unicode Icelandic (for apps like Appleworks, WordX, etc)?

On certain pages of a website, get a Javascript:void(0) in status bar and no response to the action but clicking on same object works in IE. I am not a developer, just a user and I don't like IE!

When I click on some buttons on certain pages of certain websites, there is no response and "javascript:void(0)" is flashed in the status bar; then "Done". When I click on same button on same site/page in IE, it works fine. Have detailed one site/page but this is not the only one. I am not a developer, just a user, so please keep it simple!

Such links usually have an onclick attribute that does the actual action. 
Make sure that you do not block [[JavaScript]]
Start Firefox in [[Safe Mode]] to check if one of your add-ons is causing your problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Tools > Add-ons > Themes).

If it does work in Safe-mode then disable all your extensions and then try to find which is causing it by enabling one at a time until the problem reappears. 
You can use "Disable all add-ons" on the [[Safe mode]] start window to disable all extensions. 
You have to close and restart Firefox after each change via "File > Exit" (Mac: "Firefox > Quit"; Linux: "File > Quit")

Can't open certain pages.

I just got an iMac and have began to use Safari. I really like it.. but oddly, I can't open certain pages that I can on other browsers. (tested this).

On the xbox log in, I get redirected to the link I provided which just shows a blank white screen with the Microsoft Inc. in green at the top of the URL bar. I get redirected after going to xbox.com -> sign in (at the top right). Cannot understand why.
For mlb.com, I only load the banner in 'gameday', opposed to the reviews, previews, box score, etc.
Makes no sense because on this same Mac, Chrome and Firefox can load these pages.

Certain pages won't print to a Xerox printer but will in print in MSIE

I have Firefox 3.6 on a 64bit win7 PC. When I print certain pages to my Xerox laser printer (for example http://www.dressmakingresearch.com/1930s_under_dress.htm as one of several examples) I get one page, then a blank page, then error PCL5 out of memory. Sounds like some process running amok, the printer has 128 MB and nothing on this page is that big. I can print this page from FF to a HP OfficeJet. I can print it to anything from MSIE. Other PCs printing this page from FF to the same printer have the problem. Some problem with how FF renders it to this one printer driver, but the driver itself is OK? I print with the standard shrink to fit option. What would you suggest I do next to diagnose and fix?
Looking on the page, the various images are in table cells that are narrower than the image. <TD width="100"><IMG width="150"...
If I use Firebug to change the 150 to 99, the page prints. Why would FF be forgiving of this for some printers but not others?

What app are you trying to print with? Not all printing apps will print documents and Pages might be looking for an AirPrint printer.

Have you tried resetting the zoom level on those pages? To reset zoom, CTRL+0 (<--that is a zero).

Browser can't load certain pages

I experience this problem with Safari, Firefox and Netscape. Certain pages -- ESPN is a good example -- load halfway and then stop, and all I get is the spinning rainbow ball. I always have to force quit. This started a few weeks ago. I assume it's a plug-in of some kind, but reinstalling Firefox didn't seem to help. Any ideas? Thanks!

Do you have a style sheet [ CSS ] you are using in Safari-> Advanced Tab? if yes set it to none, and see if that helps.
Whilst in Advanced tab check your network settings & make sure you've no proxies checked on.
In " View " Check your Text encoding try using Unicode.
Have you tried a restart,if the puter that can help.
Have you run permission repair and see if DU reports any errors.
In Utilities Disk Utility, First Aid tab. do not bother with verify perm.
do run repair permissions. Stay on the left side of the Disk Utility
< [ not repair disk ] if you know already, sorry.
