Opening a binary file with the right extension

Hi everyone,
I developed a real simple VI that enables me to read the first five bytes of a binary file to get its signature (ASCII) and verify if its signature matches with the expected extensions. If yes, another VI is called, and if not a 2 button message error is displayed : if the User chooses OK, then a new dialog box opens up to pick another file ; and if the user chooses Cancel, the same dialog box opens up rather than escaping the VI.
It is due to the while loop (VI below) but i don't see how I can handle this without it. Till the user hasn't chosen the right extension, it can't escape which is a problem! The true case consists in calling another VI, and the first step of the stacked sequence consists in displaying a two button error message.
If you have any ideas, I'm a bit new! Thanks !!

Thanks for your replies!
I have tried your solution CoqRouge, filtering the extensions. But it seems that you can choose between different filters when the dialog box opens up, and then choose any kind of extensions.
@RavensFan : I cannot load the VIs attached in this thread because I am using an older version of Labview
@MikeS81 : Which negative ouput?

  • How do I import old FCP projects that have mysteriously changed to Linux Executable files?  Is it as simple as renaming the files with the.fcp extension?

I had some FCP projects on an old G3 tower that I finally want to finish. I was able to grab everything, media, etc. to my macbook pro but all of the Final Cut Pro actual movies/projects have turned into "linux executable files" that FCP X won't import.
I tried googling this issue but didn't really see any good answers. Would it be as simple as renaming the files with the .fcp extension?  I can't recall if my old version (really old) of FCP saves projects as .mov or .fcp files, but I'm assuming I'm not the only person this has happened to.
    Thanks for your help!

I had some FCP projects on an old G3 tower that I finally want to finish.
What version of FCP was this? The project files can probably no longer be opened in the newer version of the OS. You could try adding the .fcp suffix, but I don't think it will help for this. Projects files are .fcp.
Regardless of the version, no legacy FCP projects will import into FCPX.
Media is a different matter. These are probably QuickTime .mov files. If these are appearing as Unix ececutables, they're probably not recoverable either.

I also don't understand, but if you mean how to display only files with a certain extension in your JFileChooser then you should have a look at the JFileChooser API:
    http://java.sun.com/j2se/1.5.0/docs/api/javax/swing/JFileChooser.html
The introduction shows an example of how to do that.

  • Streaming MP4 files with the wrong extension

    Hi
I am trying to develop an iphone app that plays videos from a remote embeded server.
I am new to IOS development and am using Flash Builder to create a mobile flex project. Am getting on quite well with flash builder / flex seems pretty powerfull, however I am stuck on something that i cant seem to get round:
The files i am trying to stream are MP4 files but not named mp4 instead they have names like
    http://192.168.0.219/WEB/home/XYZ0001.TJC
I cant change the filenames as they are being generated automatically and cant change the mime mappings of the server. If i copy the files and rename them as XYZ0001.MP4 Then the files load fine (so i know they are valid etc) , with the correct file extension i can use any of a numebr of tactics to play them (such as StageWebView).
I think i need the native video player to think its being passed a file of XYZ0001.MP4 which is really XYZ0001.TJC Anybody have any ideas of how i can get round this , these are my ideas but as new to flex am struggling to get any of them to work
    ideas are:
Create a file object and somehow pass this to stagewebview
create a server side proxy and somehow use this to alter the filename
Alter the header of the file to change the mimetype
any other ideas also gratefull recieved.
I am new to this and its driving me round the bend , is what i am trying to do possible, can anybody point me in the right direction ?
    Many Thanks
    Toby

one other really strange thing that is happening is that after renaming the files back to .wav i cannot open them in itunes but they work just fine with vlc or ableton live?

  • How can I get Firefox to respond to files with the .nxg extension?

I have been trying to open other pages than the home page of this site http://www.marinemachining.com/ and the only way that I can get them to open is to right click the URL button and choose open in a different tab or new window. Just clicking on the button should go to the page (for example "Propeller Shafting" and this will not work. Any help you can give is appreciated. Seems this Netopia file extension .nxg is not dealt with right now unless I have set something up wrong. Otherwise, I love Firefox.

Are that files that you have saved on your computer or web pages that you try to open?
Are you opening the files with a double-click in Windows Explorer?

  • How do I open Pages '08 files with the current version of Pages (5.5)?

I have a computer full of Pages '08 files. I just upgraded to Yosemite and purchased the new Pages. It looks great but Pages is telling me that it doesn't open Pages '08 files. Apparently it only opens it's own files and Pages '09 files. As far as I know, Pages '09 is no longer available. Am I stuck at a dead end? Is there no way for me to access any of my documents?!
    Help!!!

You should still have Pages '08 in your Applications/iWork folder.
Open your files with that and Export to Word .doc/docx. Pages 5.5 can open those with probably considerable changes.
rogerfromnorfolk is right. Take a lesson from this as Apple will continue to screw over your work without regard for its affect on you or all the people who have to work with you.
Start looking for something else more secure and reliable, that means NOT from Apple.
LibreOffice [free] is very capable. There are also NisusWriter and Mellel with more alternatives on their way. Affinity Publisher from Serif should be launched next year and should maybe end any need to use Apple's btroken software.

  • Cann't open a *.fmb file (with the same version of Form Builder)

    Hello everybody,
My Form Builder 6.0 cann't open a *.fmb file, created with the same version, even with the same Form Builder tool.
I worked for long time ago at this module, I saved it many times, I compiled it and it worked very well. But last time it didn't want to work(open). I couldn't open it (FRM-10043: Cannot open file). But the corresponding *.fmx file is working.
    Here is some additional information:
When I try to rename or replace this file an Windows "There has been a sharing violation. The source or destination file may be in use" error appear. But that file is not in use and it is not shared. Is this helpfull?
Is there something which can be done?
    Thanks in advance,
    Euge

Sure. I did that many times. I checked the volume for the errors. I interrupted any share connection. I tried to change the extension of the file and to change it again to *.fmb(I did this on a copy of that file).

  • Package jar files with the jdeveloper extension

I have some dependent 3rd party jar files that needs to go with the extension. How can I package it with the extension?

    DJ,
If you're still using 11.1.1.5 (or any version of 11gR1) place the third party libraries into a directory in your project, and reference them via the classpath entry in the extension.xml file.
If you are looking at how you can distribute them with your extension, but not put them inside the extensions .jar file, then put them read this blog post about how to bundle your extension for distribution.
    http://blogs.oracle.com/jdevextensions/entry/working_with_jdeveloper_update_centers_and_bundlexml
If you are adding external libraries to an extension in 11gR2, there is a blog post about that:

  • How do I open a acsm file with the newest version of Adobe Digital Editions

I purchased an ebook that was delivered in the the Adobe .acsm format.  When I downloaded it, I specified that the Adobe Digital Editions as the app to open the file.  ADE launched, loaded my old books but the new book was not loaded. I also tried to load the book from the ADE, but the book shows up as a grayed out item that I cannot select.  I am running the book reader on a Mac running OS X 10.5.8 and have downloaded the lastest version of the ADE.  Has anyone else had a similar problem? Thanks, Yvonne

I'm having the same problem. I have the latest Adobe Reader version, have Mac OS X 10.6.4, and I cannot open any .acsm file-old or new. I've also tried to load the book from the ADE, but the book shows up as a grayed out item that I cannot select. I've tried everything, but to no avail. I don't have any solutions, but wanted to let you know you're not alone in this problem.

  • How do I play my 16/9 QT file  with the right Aspect Ratio in QT?

My Quicktime file is 16/9 NTSC but when i play ti like in QT or on the web it is squeezed to 4/3.

When you export you need to adjust for the aspect ratio. For example, export 640x360...for that is 16:9. 640x480 is 4:3.

  • I want Firefox to give me the option to download a file with a .mm extension rather than opening it as if it were an xml file

I have created a web page that provides links to files with the .mm extension. These files are created by the Freemind application (http://freemind.sourceforge.net/wiki/index.php/Main_Page). When I click one of these links, Firefox opens the file as if it were a text (xml) file. I have looked at the Applications page in Preferences, but there is no obvious way to add a new application and then specify that Firefox should "Always ask" what I want to do. Essentailly, how do I do that?

    Hi jhayles,
Have you looked checked in ''Tools > Options > Applications'' to see if you have told Firefox to always save the file? You should take a look at the [[Options window - Applications panel]] Knowledge Base article for details.
If you set Firefox to always ask and it doesn't, you may want to check out the [[Preferences are not saved]] article.
    Hopefully this helps!

  • Is there any way to open a file with a .msi extension on my new mac?

I have Camtasia from the pc I was using. It has a .msi file extension for the installation file. Is there any way to open the Camtasia installation file with the .msi extension on my new Mac?
    Thanks,
    Jerry

That's a Microsoft program which requires Windows. You could run on your Mac if you install Windows on it.
    Windows on Intel Macs
There are presently several alternatives for running Windows on Intel Macs.
Install the Apple Boot Camp software.  Purchase Windows 7 or Windows 8.  Follow instructions in the Boot Camp documentation on installation of Boot Camp, creating Driver CD, and installing Windows.  Boot Camp enables you to boot the computer into OS X or Windows.
Parallels Desktop for Mac and Windows XP, Vista Business, Vista Ultimate, or Windows 7.  Parallels is software virtualization that enables running Windows concurrently with OS X.
VM Fusion and Windows XP, Vista Business, Vista Ultimate, or Windows 7.  VM Fusion is software virtualization that enables running Windows concurrently with OS X.
CrossOver which enables running many Windows applications without having to install Windows.  The Windows applications can run concurrently with OS X.
VirtualBox is a new Open Source freeware virtual machine such as VM Fusion and Parallels that was developed by Solaris.  It is not as fully developed for the Mac as Parallels and VM Fusion.
Note that Parallels and VM Fusion can also run other operating systems such as Linux, Unix, OS/2, Solaris, etc.  There are performance differences between dual-boot systems and virtualization.  The latter tend to be a little slower (not much) and do not provide the video performance of the dual-boot system. See MacTech.com's Virtualization Benchmarking for comparisons of Boot Camp, Parallels, and VM Fusion. A more recent comparison of Parallels, VM Fusion, and Virtual Box is found at Virtualization Benchmarks- Parallels 10 vs. Fusion 7 vs. VirtualBox. Boot Camp is only available with Leopard and later. Except for Crossover and a couple of similar alternatives like DarWine you must have a valid installer disc for Windows.
You must also have an internal optical drive for installing Windows. Windows cannot be installed from an external optical drive.

  • How to open a DWG file with AutoCAD options (AppleScript)?

    Hi,
I'm looking for help specifying the AutoCAD options when opening DWG files.  I have DWG files of floor plans that I always want to open at the same scale.
I can successfully open a DWG file with the default options using:
open POSIX file "/Users/crmckinnon/Desktop/cabin_floor_plan.dwg" as alias without dialogs
But I don't want the default options, so if I try to specify them:
open POSIX file "/Users/crmckinnon/Desktop/cabin_floor_plan.dwg" as alias with options {class:AutoCAD options, scale unit:"autocad inches"} without dialogs
I get a "Can't find alias" error.  How do I specify the AutoCAD options?  I'm sure this is due to my lack of understanding of AppleScript.  Any help would be appreciated!
    Thanks,
    Chris

I'll answer my own question.  Here's how I specified the options:
open POSIX file filePath as alias with options {pGSO:original size, pASU:inches, pASR:12.0 / 0.1875} without dialogs
I had to look in the Apple Script dictionary to get the "codes" to use.  The variable names didn't work.  I think that's because some have "global" in the name which is a keyword in Apple Script.  Here's what the codes translate to:
    pGSO = "global scale options"
    pASU = "scale unit"
    pASR = "scale ratio"
    Thanks,
    Chris
