Opening documents that are in a book (CS4, JS)

Hello,
Just had a quick look through the ESTK object model and I couldn't see a way of opening a document that's in a book, through the book (so the non-script action would involve opening the book file then double-clicking the relevant document). I can obivously get the file path of a document in the book and open it another way, but I'm trying to avoid getting the 'document modified outside of book' error triangle when processing and saving documents that are in a book.
If anyone has any pearls of wisdom, I'm all ears.
Thanks.

What am I missing here? If you have a book opened and you can check which documents it contains (using BookContents) and optionally open them, you can also safely change and save those docs. No warning triangles -- because the book is also openen, and it'll notice the changes.
Only if you do something unexpected, such as open the book, open a document from the book, then close the book ... before committing your changes ... it'll gain its yellie triangle. But then again, it'd do the same if you do that manually.

You will need to connect your iPad to your computer's iTunes and do File > Devices > Transfer Purchases to copy them over to your computer (that will copy PDFs and epubs that are in the iBooks app, not just actual ibooks), and you can then sync them to your iPhone. Or you might be able to open each PDF in iBooks on your iPad and use the share icon to email them to yourself and then use 'open in' in the Mail app on your iPhone to copy them to its iBooks app (if the PDF is protected then you may not get the email option via the share icon).
The Settings > iBooks > Sync Collections setting doesn't copy items between devices, it just means that it a bookor PDF is on both devices and you move it into a collection on one device then it will be moved into the same collection on the other device

  • How can i revise documents that are emailed to me/

How can I revise and edit documents that are emailed to me?

You need an app that is compatible with the file Tyoe that you want to edit. For instance and most typically, users want to edit MS Office files such as Word, Excel and PowerPoint. Apple offers their own compatible suite of iWorks apps - Pages, Numbers and Keynote. Other office suite apps are available in the app store, Quick Office, Documents to Go, Office2 HD.
When you receive the file via email, if you have a compatible app that allows you to edit, you can tap and hold down on the file icon in the email and you will get the option to "open in" and from that option you can select the app that works with that file. The file will then open in that app and you can revise and edit from there. Those files will be saved right in the apps themselves as there is no conventional file storage stucture on the iPad like you have on a computer.

I'm not sure what you mean by it making accessing files more complicated. I have both Pages 4.3 & Pages 5.1 icons in my Dock as well as Numbers 2.3 & Numbers 3.1. I continue to use the iWork '09 versions for my everyday needs. As long as the new versions are in your Applications folder & the '09 versions in the iWork '09 folder, Software Update will not have a problem updating them even if Apple should come out with a new update for the '09 versions.
Because I have moved the new versions to an external drive & renamed the apps because I want '09 to be the default apps, I do have to remember to move them back to my applications folder & restore the original names before updating. But since you like the new versions this "complication" doesn't apply to you.

  • How do I back up documents that are stored in iCloud to my own hard drive?

The trouble is, however I search for an answer to this question, I get instructions on how to back up stuff TO iCloud.
I want to back up stuff that applications like Pages and Numbers are already storing IN iCloud.
See, I don't want to have to trust iCloud to safely store my documents.  Not unless there are copies somewhere that I can fall back on if (it's really only a matter of when) something goes fatally haywire in iCloud.
It's easy enough to do with a service like, say, Dropbox, which treats my "cloud-stored" files like they are in a folder on my hard-drive.  So when I run either a local (Time Machine/Capsule) or a cloud (Crashplan, in my case) backup, those files get backed up.  So I have at least three copies of those files - in Dropbox, on my Time Capsule, and on Crashplan's servers.
So how do I do that with docs that are stored in iCloud?  Apple wants me to store stuff in iCloud - if I have iCloud enabled and want to save a doc to another destination, there are multiple steps I want to go through.  And I'm fine with using iCloud if I'm creating documents that I want to be able to access from my iOS devices as well.
Yes, I can do that with Dropbox, but it's less seamless than doing it through iCloud.
But I want my own backups of those files, and near as I can tell, Apple makes that nearly impossible because iCloud does not show up anywhere as a folder that I can access or sort.
Or does it?  Am I missing something?
If so, let me know.... if not... is there a solution to this dilemma, or is it just one more aspect of iCloud that Apple has not clearly thought through?
    Thanks,
    --PS

Right.  You didn't read the post, you only read the title.
The title came from an earlier step in the process when I was posing a question to the systen.
The pertinent part of the question is "How to I back up documents that are stored in iCloud"
That the destination for the backup is NOT my internal HDD should be clear from the rest of the post.
And frankly, even if that is where I want to back up to, that would at least give me two copies, at least giving me one duplicate of the stuff on iCloud.
So please stop wasting my time if you can't answer the actual question: How do I backup content that is stored in iCloud.  The destination of the backup is irrelevant.

  • User Exit transaction FB05 with data of documents that are to be cleared.

    Hi,
Is there any user exit or badi in transaction FB05, where the data of documents that are to be cleared and the data of payment document are available?
I need that in the F110 transaction, the field SGTXT of the payment document is filled with the field XBLNR of documents to compensate.
    Thanks in advance.
    Regards,
    Ana Lucas

    Hi,
The field XBLNR of the clearing document isn't the same of cleared document.
In the substitution we don't have available the data of cleared document,  but only the data of clearing document.

  • I'm looking for a flatbed scanner than can scan documents that are 11" x 17"

As the title states, I need to scan some documents that are 11" x 17". These documents are inked comic pages on vellum, which is sort of a thick, semi-translucent kind of paper. I think I'll need to lay these pages flat to scan them, instead of running them through a sheetfed scanner.
Every Office Depot or Staples I visit has multi-function devices from HP and Epson that can scan this large. However, I've always had issues with devices from these companies, be it driver problems or hardware problems. I've also had a Mustek scanner in the past and it rapidly stopped working. I'm very happy with Canon products and would like to stay with this brand. Unfortunately, it doesn't appear Canon makes a flatbed scanner this large, and it's hard to tell if any of their multifunctions can do it.
The question is: does Canon offer a product now, or have they offered one in the past, that can scan this large of a document? If not, who can I talk to about product ideas? My alternative would be scanning the pages one half at a time and then trying to join them in Photoshop, but who has that kind of time?
Thanks for any help you can give.

Commercial Printing requires images to be 300 dpi (pixels per inch).
You will have to do the maths as we don't know how big the images are, whether they fill each size or only part of them.
If they bleed (go off the edge of the paper) they will need an extra 3/8" (.375") on each edge.
So for an image to fill the largest size and bleed you need an image 7425 x 11025 pixels. I hope you have a good camera. You can aways reduce the dimensions down from that.

  • Is GIST available for documents that are stored in Beehive

    Customer is asking the following
“We are using Beehive and Oracle Portal 11G with the Database 11G, all tied in via SSO/OID. Is GIST available for documents that are stored in Beehive?”
I asked the customer for more information on GIST and he responded with the following.
“GIST when used in Portal Builder gives a summary of the document, say in the case of a PDF it will give the first para, we have used it heavily in OCS and want to use it in beehive.”
Digging a little deeper we found the following,
    http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/E11882_01/text.112/e24435/view.htm#CCAPP9206
    “5.2.2 Gist and Theme Summary
A gist is the text of a document that best represents what the document is about as a whole. A theme summary is the text of a document that best represents a single theme in the document.”
Seems to be a text feature.
Is this a feature that would be available with Oracle Beehive?

I need to find out why documents that are park in FBV0 do not update with the new user name when any changes are made.  Also when we park using MIR7 and make changes to the documents at a later time the document updates with the new users name.
Requesting you to please suggest what could be the reason.
Earliest reply will be highly appreciated,
    With regards,

  • How can I silently print all PDF documents that are opened automatically?

For a special terminal PC I want to print all PDF's that are opened to be printed automatically and without user interaction. The PDF is loaded in an iFrame in the browser, this PDF then needs to be printed.
I don't want to modify the PDF's, the PDF's are supplied by another resource.
I was thinking about using a folder level script that prints each PDF document automatically as soon as it is opened, but I don't know how to accomplish this.

    Macropanther wrote:
I don't think the installation process will allow that unless the printer is connected.
Incorrect. Win or Mac, you can install a printer driver w/o the printer being connected.
I have tried MS PowerPoint (which can't seem to accept paper wider than 56 inches) and have  used NeoOffice Draw
You're using the wrong tools. PP shouldn't even be in consideration; I don't know about NeoOffice, but I tried its cousin LibreOffice, and it has issues with custom paper sizes; which is not surprising, given what these apps were designed for.
What you need for actual banners (not web page banners) is a vector drawing tool or a DTP app. I'd say Illustrator or InDesign, but Adobe CS is expensive, and, if you're thinking of PowerPoint for this job, you're not ready for it.
You can try Pages; although not quite DTP, it can do the job and it's inexpensive. There are other options, such as Swift Publisher (a DTP app) or Intaglio (a drawing app) -- both are more expensive than Pages, but still affordable; or you can go open source with Scribus (DTP) or InkScape (vector; requires X11). You already know the ups and downs of using open source. (These are just examples; you can find others if you look for them.)
Although it's better to have Kinko's printer driver, to make sure of the correct options, you don't actually need it to print to PDF. You should be able to define a custom page size (eg, 12in × 72in) and create the PDF from it. Any app which uses the Mac OS X standard print function should be able to do it.

If I want a copy the PDF document to get saved on desktop automatically without asking to user, How can I do this in c#?
If there are many PDF files opened, then also, I have to get all the details of PDF documents  which are opened.
