Getting specific operating system details

hello
I'm trying to make a detailed report about the operating system.
Some details i already know:
   // use these with the System.getProperty(...);
    public static final String OSNAME = "os.name";
    public static final String OSVERSION = "os.version";
    public static final String OSARCHITECTURE = "os.arch";
    public static final String USERHOMEDIR = "user.home";but the one below is one of the harder ones to get through java:
- architecture of your computer (intel-compatible pc => i368, ...)
can anyone help me with this?
thanks in advance

i386 (is this for intel processors or what does it actually mean, i always thought i had a x64 architecture 64-bit cpu)Either you overlooked it, or it is not supported by the underlying OS. It lists here perfectly on all of my machines (PC's and laptops with XP and Vista).

    If it's the software, you'll need to download Lion again as your isntaller is likely corrupted.

    I had downloaded OS X Mountain Lion and had to replace my hard drive. Now when I try to download it only wants to upgrade since I show that I previously purchased it. What can I do to get the operating system back

    I'm unclear on what the problem is. Have you installed a system on the new hard drive, and if so, what system? Had you actually installed Mountain Lion previously, or only downloaded it? And what does "it only wants to upgrade" mean? Have you actually got Mountain Lion already installed? (See About This Mac in the Apple menu.)
    All Macs that shipped with Lion or newer are capable of internet recovery in situations like this. Just hold down command-R and it should start in recovery mode over the internet if necessary. You can reinstall the system from there. If you had Mountain Lion, I would assume that Mountain Lion would be the system you would get reinstalling that way.

  • Data aquisition board installation,how to get the operation system know that the board exsist and to give it a number?

    I'm a green hand on hardware. This question is maybe kind of a silly quetsion.
    I already have a data acquisition board installed (built-in) and there is the corresponding program to control it.
    Now I need to install another board to the computer, and make the necessary Vi to control the new board. I'm wondering what should be the procedure like? HOW to get the computer know the new board. Should there be any driving program coming along with the hardware. Or the operation system should get to know the existing of the new hardware once it's installed( i mean plug in). Thank you for your kind reply!

    Hi Fenny,
    What is the model number of the second board? If your existing driver has support for this board (which I'm assuming is a NI board, and it's plug and play), your OS (which I'm assuming is Windows) should recognize it when you start up your computer after installation. You can find out the driver support for your board and OS from the link below. If the installation was successful, you should be able to see the new board in the Measurement and Automation Explorer (MAX) under "Devices and Interfaces". If you can see the board in MAX, there will be a device number assigned to the board, which you can use in your VI to communicate with it.
    If any of the above assumptions is incorrect, please provide some details (i.e. hardware used, driver you currently have installed, OS, and the application you'd like to use this new board for), and we can work from there.

No change.  I am using a 2.16 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo processor.  Did Lion relabel the bootcamp disk when it created the recovery disk?  Thanks.

  • Getting an operating system on a Powerbook G3

    Hi I have acquired a Powerbook G3 333Mhz, but unfortunately came to me flattened with no OS on it. I have had various Mac's throughout the years, but the only OS disc that will even get it to an Install mode is a G5 OS 10.4 startup disk. I have some Jaguar discs, an OS9.2 installer, and full copies of Panther Tiger and Leopard, but I can't get this little critter going! Any help would be much appreciated, I know this machine could still be put to use. dom.

    DPT,
    Nice work. The following Powerbook G3 "Pismo" had an optical drive with a high failure rate, and often either the DVD- or CD-side of the drive would fail first...have not seen this issue reported with the Lombard. Possibly someone has swapped in the Pismo drive at some point. See if the Apple System Profiler reports a drive made by LG (don't have any numbers for it) which is the problem drive in the Pismo while Matshita was the reliable model. I don't know what optical drive was used in the Lombard.
    Any version of pre-OSX for the Lombard (MacOS 8.6 > 9.2.2) can run side-by-side with any version of OSX. However, if you would like to run in "Classic" mode (pre-OSX running in emulation while booted in OSX), you need OS 9.1 > 9.2.2 with 9.2.2 being the desired version. So I would update to 9.2.2 if you plan on running any Classic apps; if you have no need for Classic, you can just remove it from the HD...it is not needed to install or run OSX. If you need the room on the HD, I would still leave the 9.2.2 System Folder (250MB) but trash the Applications (MacOS 9) folder.
    You have, however, at least determined the Lombard will run and probably has a bad optical drive. You can also run another test in 9.x to determine if you have the troublesome CPU. Since you are successfully running OS 9, download 'PPC Checker' here:
    http://www.xlr8yourmac.com/G3CARDS/PPCchecker/
    ...and see if it reports this number:
    PowerPC 750L (LoneStar, Rev2.2) Copper G3 PVR = 0x00088202
    If so, you will experience these symptoms:
    -Lombard runs perfectly when booted to OS 9 with the RAM maxed to 512MB (2x265) or less.
    -The same Lombard, when trying to install any version of OSX, will either not boot the OSX disk or freeze during the install or freeze when restarting after a successful install or freeze randomly if OSX was successfully installed.
    The problem lies with a certain run of CPUs and the top memory slot. The solution is to leave the top memory slot empty and run the maximum of 256MB in the bottom slot. Your Apple System Profiler will tell you what memory is installed. If you have the bad CPU and the top memory slot is populated, remove the memory module. It is quite easy: Lift off keyboard (do not disconnect, lay face down on palm rest) > lift off the heat shield > remove the module.
    Here is a good guide (just follow my instructions; iFixit unnecessarily removes some parts).
    http://www.ifixit.com/Guide/Device/PowerBookG3Lombard
    Since you have Panther CDs, possibly you can also image them to DVDs. Panther is the last version Lombard natively supports. Tiger will run without issue on the Lombard but since the Lombard does not have built-in FireWire (a requirement for Tiger), Apple dropped the Lombard from the supported list. The only problem installing Tiger on the Lombard is the Tiger DVD will not boot; this can be solved by using XPostFacto or removing the HD to install Tiger from another computer.
    As you know, Panther requires a minimum of 128MB and Tiger 256MB of RAM. If you need more memory, you will require special 256MB modules for the Lombard; here is a good source and company:
    http://eshop.macsales.com/item/Other%20World%20Computing/100SO256168L/
    You want a minimum of 10GB of HD space for OSX but if you just want this 'book for browsing and email, you can do it with far less space. If you custom install OSX and do not install the printer drivers and foreign language translators, OSX will only use approximately 3GB of space.

  • Had to install new hardrive, how do I get new operating system?

    Friend took Mac to Apple store in Houston and  they diagnosed problem. I was told i needed new harddrive. I purchased new hard drive and then had help installing it. Friend told me to get Snow Leapord discs? There is not an Apple store in my city, closest one 3hrs away. I'm wondering if I can download something or if I need to get discs.
    Thanks.

    Welcome to Apple Support Communities
    Did your Mac come with discs? If so, insert the Mac OS X DVD you have and hold the C key while your Mac is starting. Then, reinstall OS X.
    You would have to erase the hard drive. To do it, open Utilities menu (on the menu bar) > Disk Utility. Then, choose the hard disk at the top of the sidebar, go to Erase tab and erase the hard drive in "Mac OS Extended (Journaled)". If you haven't got the DVDs that came with your Mac, call Apple to get replacement DVDs > http://support.apple.com/kb/HE57
    If your Mac didn't come with DVDs, start up in Internet Recovery. Hold Command, Option (Alt) and R keys while your MacBook is starting up, and reinstall Mac OS X

  • How to get operating system username?

    I need to get operating username and database username for auditing purpose. please suggest how to get os username to insert into auditing table by using triggers.

    Normally, You should check the column 'osuser' from sys.v$session view.(username is the DBUser) Care should be taken to get the osuser of the current session! This work in client/server environment. Problems appear in web environment where a HOST program is more appropriate to do this and be invoked in Forms. (see metalink eg Note:1021606.6

  • Unable to get SCCM to install operating system

    I am unable to get the operating system to install via SCCM.  Here is a list of the steps I have taken so far with no luck:
    - Uninstalled WDS and reinstalled
    - Removed distribution point and reinstalled
    - Recreated boot image, Windows 7 image and driver packages
    - Unchecked PXE and checked again
    I can get it to boot into PXE and after the password is put in, the packages fail.  It starts at the winpe and after recreating the package from scratch it will error at the next package(win 7 image, then driver package).  I recreated each package
    to get to the next step but it never installs the OS.  Is there anything else I can do?

    Hi,
    Have you verified WDS service is running?
    According to the log, please check the registry "SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\services\WDSServer\Providers\WDSMC\Providers\SMSProvider" on the DP.
    Please make sure all the prerequisites for DP have met.
