Operations on files

Question

I've to create two methods:
1) delete(), must delete a file or a directory. I've written this, but it doesn't work :( Could you tell me why? The file (or directory) is not deleted but the code doesn't give me errors.
public boolean delete(String namefile){                       
File fileToDelete = new File(namefile);
System.out.println(fileToDelete.exists());
if (fileToDelete.exists()){
     if(fileToDelete.delete())
     return true;
     else
     return false;
     else
     return false;
2) The method readline() must return the line at the position "pos" of a file given in input. I've searched in some forums, but it's still not clear to me why this code is not working :

          PrintWriter out = new PrintWriter(file.getName());

I've been able to delete the file, the problem was that I wasn't positioning on the right directory:public boolean delete(String namefile) {                       
try{
     String dirPath = f.getAbsolutePath()+"\\" + namefile;
     File fileToDelete = new File(dirPath);
     System.out.println(fileToDelete.getAbsolutePath());
          if (fileToDelete.exists()){
               if(fileToDelete.delete())
                    return true;
               else
                    return false;
     else
     return false;
     }catch (SecurityException exc){
          return false;}
I had to add the name of the subdirectory to the path. Now I've to figure out why it's not working if I delete a file instead of a directory...
