Optimizing chunks size for filesending with NetStream.send() method

Hi,
I would like to implement a p2p filesending application. Unfortunately object replication is not the best solution for this so I need to implement it myself.
The process is the following:
Once the user has selected the file for sending, I load it to the memory. After it is completed I cut the file's data into chunks and send these chunks with the NetStream.send() method  - to get the progress of filesending -.
How can I optimize the size of the chunks for the fastest filesending method or what is the best size for a chunk?

Hi there
Please submit a Wish Form to ask for some future version of Captivate to offer such a feature! (Link is in my sig)

  • Optimal Block Size for Xserve's RAID hosting Final Cut Server

    What would be the optimal block size for the software RAID on the machine that will be hosting Final Cut Server? The default is 36K. Since FCS is essentially a database, would be the optimal settings? Any glimpse what data size chunks FCS write to the disk?

    Actually I meant the block size for the internal startup volume where FCS is installed, not Xsan volumes. As to optimal settings for Xsan volumes it really depends on the type of the data you store on Xsan, and if it is primarily video, what format: SD, HD.

  • Adjusting chunk size for virtual harddisks

    My data partition with VHD images is constantly run out of space. So I decided to repartition the drive in the next days. While doing that, I will redo most or all images files to sparsify the data inside the guest. There is one issue:
    To reduce the amount of space needed on the host I want to reduce the "allocation chunk size" for (dynamically expanding/ sparse) virtual harddisks. Its my understanding that if a guest is writing to a filesystem block the host does actually allocate
    more than the "guest block size". For example, if a guest ext3 filesystem has blocksize 4K and it writes to block #123, the host will not just allocate space for this singe 4K block at offset #123. It may allocate a much larger chunk in case the
    guest attempts also to write ti #124. And so on.
    A few months ago I read somewhere that this "allocation chunk size" can be adjusted. Either when the VHD image is created, or globally for all images. It was done with some powershell cmd AFAIK.
    For my purpose I want to reduce it to a minimum, even if it comes with some performance cost.
    How can this property be adjusted?
    Thanks.
    Olaf

    Hi Olaf,
    It seems that it is beyond my ability to explain this .
    But I have read this article mentioned the effect between VHD and physical disk :
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2515143
    If I understand correctly , the physical disk and virtual disk only have two type of "sector" size (512 and 4K , vhd only support 512 )As for the "allocation chunk size" that you mentioned , I think it determined by different file system
    (such as NTFS and ext3 ).
    Maybe the powershell cmd you mentioned is " set-vhd " , it has a parameter " physicalsectorsizetype " only with two value 512 and 4096 .
    For details please refer to the following link:
    http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/hh848561.aspx
    Hope this hlepsBest Regards

  • Large Block Chunk Size for LOB column

    Oracle 10.2.0.4:
    We have a table with 2 LOB columns. Avg blob size of one of the columns is 122K and the other column is 1K. so I am planning to move column with big blob size to 32K chunk size. Some of the questions I have is:
    1. Do I need to create a new tablespace with 32K block size and then create table with chunk size of 32K for that LOB column or just create a table with 32K chunk size on the existing tablespace which has 8K block size? What are the advantages or disadvatanges of one approach over other.
    2. Currently db_cache_size is set to "0", do I need to adjust some parameters for large chunk/block size?
    3. If I create a 32K chunk is that chunk shared with other rows? For eg: If I insert 2K block would 30K block be available for other rows? The following link says 30K will be a wasted space:

    With only a 1K LOB you are going to want to use a 8K chunk size as per the reference in the thread above to the Oracle document on LOBs the chunk size is the allocation unit.
    Each LOB column has its own LOB table so each column can have its own LOB chunk size.
    The LOB data type is not known for being space efficient.
    There are major changes available on 11g with Secure Files being available to replace traditional LOBs now called Basic Files. The differences appear to be mostly in how the LOB data, segments, are managed by Oracle.

  • Optimizing / compressing video for web with Quicktime

    I have a ~70mb (3 minutes long) m4v video that I need to get to a much more reasonable file size for playing on a site that will primarily be accessed via iPad.
    I don't know if it matters, but the video will need to play automatically upon page load.
    I've read through a few tutorials for doing this with Quicktime, however I think I'm missing something..
    From the Export pop-up menu, there should seemingly be an option to choose "Movie to QuickTime Movie." I have only 480p and iPod/iPhone/iPad options(which I believe would result in a viewing frame that is too small).
    How can I proceed with web-optimizing this file in Quicktime? (Or is there a better solution? I tried Sorenson Squeeze, but that had a large watermark..)

    I have a ~70mb (3 minutes long) m4v video that I need to get to a much more reasonable file size for playing on a site that will primarily be accessed via iPad.
    File size is directly proportional to the combined total data rate of your file. If you want a smaller file, then you need to reduce the audio + video data rate of the file. Unfortunately, overly reducing the data rate can adversely affect the audio/video quality of the file. Depending on the encode settings (data rate, encode matrix dimensions, display dimensions, entropy option, intra/inter frame options, number of encode passes, etc.), user tolerance for minimum quality level, the specific target ISP speeds required, application to be used, etc., the possibilities are relatively endless. Basically, the file you describe above has a combined total data rate on the order of 3.1 Mbps. Such a data rate might be considered low for a full 1080p file, adequate for a 720p file, or excessive for a VGA file depending on the graphic complexity of the file. In short, it is difficult to properly answer your question without additional information or actually seeing the file in question. (I.e., proper encoding of content is as much an art as a science.)
    I don't know if it matters, but the video will need to play automatically upon page load.
    It may matter depending on how the web site is coded and/or how the content is to be accessed by the target iPad device.
    From the Export pop-up menu, there should seemingly be an option to choose "Movie to QuickTime Movie." I have only 480p and iPod/iPhone/iPad options(which I believe would result in a viewing frame that is too small).
    The option and tutorial you reference require the use of QT 7 Pro which the option you reference sounds nore like a QT X player export option. (Once, again, what you can do will depend on the software you are trying to use to create your file and a 480p file could normally be anything from an 853x480 (16:9 aspect) file to a 640x480 (4:3 aspect) file or an anamorphic 720x480 file displaying in either the 16:9 or 4:3 aspect. So I really don't know what you consider a "small" viewing frame.
    How can I proceed with web-optimizing this file in Quicktime? (Or is there a better solution? I tried Sorenson Squeeze, but that had a large watermark..)
    As previously mentioned, there are many applications that can be used here—QT 7 Pro, MPEG Streamclip, QT X, HandBrake, etc. to name just a few. I personally would recommend the free HandBrake app since it offers both manual and automatic preset options, as well as, allowing you to create anamorphic or non-anamorphic encodes targeting either a fixed level of quality or a target file size depening on your needs. Unfortunately, the more options you have, the more decisions you need to make which means the more you need to critically analyze your target needs/requirements—which is frequently something many video users are trying to avoid.
    Basically, if you want more specific advice, you will first have to better define your specific needs here.

  • Optimal photos size for Ipad when exporting from lightroom.

    anyone using lightroom. what are you setting your photos at for the ipad. what is the optimal photo resolution for the ipad?

    Looks like Lightroom doesn't like your display profile.
    Try removing the profile (don't know how to do it on a Mac) to leave your display uncalibrated. Are the colors still different in Lightroom and Photoshop?

  • Sending metaData with netStream.send is not working

    I'm trying to send metaData from client to FMS server when recording Webcam video and have implemented sending of metaData as stated on Adobe's help page at: http://help.adobe.com/en_US/FlashMediaServer/3.5_Deving/WS5b3ccc516d4fbf351e63e3d11a0773d5 6e-7ff6.html
    However when I play the recorded video  from FMS, my custom metaData properties trace "undefined". I can trace  default metaData properties such as duration or videocodecid  successfully, but not my custom properties such customProp, width or height. Here is part of my code that is related to the issue:
    private function  ncNetStatus(event:NetStatusEvent):void {
         if  (event.info.code == "NetConnection.Connect.Success") {
              ns = new NetStream(nc);
             ns.client = this;
              ns.publish(webcam_test, "record");
    private function netStatus(event:NetStatusEvent):void {
         if  (event.info.code == "NetStream.Publish.Start") {
              sendMetadata();
    private function sendMetadata():void {
          trace("sendMetaData() called...");
         myMetadata = new  Object();
         myMetadata.customProp = "Welcome to the Live feed of  YOUR LIFE";
         ns.send("@setDataFrame", "onMetaData",  myMetadata);
    public function  onMetaData(info:Object):void {
         trace('videocodecid:  ',info.videocodecid); //returns 2
         trace('customProp:  ',info.customProp); // returns undefined
    And here is my trace result:
    NetConnection.Connect.Success
    NetStream.Publish.Start
    sendMetaData() called...
    NetStream.Record.Start
    Stopped webcam recording...
    NetStream.Record.Stop
    NetStream.Unpublish.Success
    NetStream.Play.Reset
    NetStream.Play.Start
    videocodecid: 2
    customProp: undefined

    Here is the working code which I have tried at my end. You can see the highlighted line in which the second parameter is 0 which means it will play only recorded stream:

  • Open multiple PDFs in Photoshop at specific size for use with Actions

    I am having a bit of a roadblock with batch Automate in Photoshop. I'd like to open multiple PDFs at 630p x 630p, 72 dpi in greyscale. I have 2000 files to do this on. If files are already open, the rest of my action works, does a few things, then saves for web as PNG. It is just the open which is not working. It tries to give all files the same filename. Taking the filename out of the Action is not an option. Scan of msg boards say that this feature stopped working around CS3. Any ideas? Much appreciated.

    Open opens images the same size and resolution they are saved. If you want the images to be a particular size you need to do that in the action.
    If you download my crafting actions package.  You will find the there are over a dozen scripts I wrote to be used with in action.  One is a plugin script that would be particularly helpful to you to do the resize you want to do.  The first three steps would be Step 1 menu File>Automate>AspectRatioSelection....  You would set in a 1 to  1   Aspect ratio. Centered, rectangle. replace, selection and 0 feather. In its dialog.  Those settings will be recorded into the Actions step. Step 2 menu Image Crop. that will make you image square. Step 3 menu File>Automate>Fit Image...  In the Fit image dialog you would set 630 in the width and height fields.  These settings will be recorded into the actions step.    When the action is played no dialog will be displayed. The recorded settings will be used.

  • Optimizing file size for project (Splitting)

    Hi,
    I have recently taught myself Captivate 4 and have nearly pieced together all the requirements of a training video. There is no user interactions or quizzes. I am still not sure what is the best method to present the video. I want to publish to our intranet using Flash.
    I captured a video using the inbuilt Automatic Recording Mode (so most of the slides are stills with a couple of  FMR sldes) This produced a project with 140 slides. I understand after reading topics about file size reduction, you should try and keep projects around 60 slides. Therefore my question is do I cut this project up into three smaller projects (VideoPt1.cp VideoPt2.cp etc) then in the first project set the last slide to open Videopt2.cp and then repeat this for each project. Then publish the first project to flash. (Which is a very tedious task and I am sure there must be a better way to do this)
    When I do this and review the output when it gets to the end of the first section, it errors and says cannot find next file.
    I checked the adobe help file but does not seem to offer much explanation on the topic. Just two flavours (open file/URL or Project)
    Are there better ways of doing this, the Aggregator seems to offer a sort of solution but I dont want a user seeing multiple chapters for what is in effect one chapter.
    Cheers exup

    Hi there

  • Edit as new for msg with attachments sends original file contents, not new contents

    I recently converted from Eudora 7 to TB 24.6 on Windows. TB seems to be working ok except for one issue.
    I have a email with 5 files attached. Those files get updated occasionally and I need to resend them. With Eudora I would do a "send again" and the contents of the updated files would be attached and the email sent.
    With TB I go to the sent folder and do edit as new. When I send the email it sends the contents of the old files not the updated contents. I have to remove all the attached files and then attach them again to get the new contents. This is very inconvenient.
    Is there a way to do the same sort of "send again" that Eudora allowed?

    No there is not. Eudora stored attachments in a folder and grabbed them when required. Thunderbird encodes them at the time they are attached so there is on disk file to update.
    What you seriously need to consider is storing the files in one of the file services on the internet and using links to the files in your mail.
    Google drive will automatically sync files with your PC and allow you to send links to the internet copies in your mails.

  • How to set the size for Popup with contains a Region

    Hi,
    i use ADF 11g (JDEVADF_11.1.1.1.0_GENERIC_090615.0017.5407) with ADF Faces as Frontend.
    I have a Region (with many content) in a popup. When I call the popup the size of the popup is very small.
    If i set explicit the width and height in px it works, but if I set the width and height in % it doesn't works.
            <af:popup id="p1">
              <af:dialog id="pw2" type="ok"

                           inlineStyle="width:850.0px; height:600px;"/>
              </af:dialog>
            </af:popup> It is possible to get the max. height and witdth from the browser-window in a Bean and set it dynamicly to the region?
    To set the size in px is not the best solution I think.

  • Motion Assistant Contour Array Points - Optimal Array Size?

    I am working with the NI Motion Assistant API and plyaing around with the Contour Move generation where I feed a set of X, Y target points to the Set Contour Move Properties.
    One of the inputs is Profile Calculation Constraint - Array Size, Constraint Value (which would be the array size to use).
    I am wondering if there is a way to calculate the "optimal" array size for any particular move?  I know I can have too few - can I have too many points in an array (being reasonable here and not planning to use the whole 2^32 size allowed).
    Thanks.

    Hi Ryan,
    Unfortunately, I'm not so sure I have a good answer for you. I'll evaluate some of the pros and cons below and then ultimately make a recommendation:
    Constraint Type: Array Size
    Pros
    You always have a fixed sized array of setpoints. If you are using a 73xx card, this simplifies setting up your contour buffer. It also avoids using a lot of memory.
    Cons
    For long moves, you could have a long time and large distance between position setpoints. The motion card will do a spline interpolation to smooth the move, but the splining algorithm is only so good.
    If you are sending the contour setpoints to a motion card, you don't know the interval between setpoints (although this isn't difficult to obtain).
    Constraint Type: Sampling Time
    Pros
    Regardless of the move, you always have a fixed time between setpoints. As long as your sampling time isn't too large, even fast moves should execute accurately.
    Cons
    For a long move, you could generate a lot of setpoints that consume a lot of memory.
    Setting up contouring buffers can be trickier.
    Conclusion
    It depends on what you expect the end customer to be doing. I prefer using the sampling time constraint since it is more robust for fast, long moves (and still good for slow, short moves). It will make creating contour buffers more difficult, but there is an example (Two-Axis Smart Contouring.vi) that shows how to dynamically update the buffer. Ultimately, I think it is better to focus on accurate moves than minimizing memory consumption.
    If you decide to go with the sampling time method, I would start with a constraint value of .01, since 10msec is the shortest interval when configuring a contour buffer. Try and generate some position profiles to see how big the arrays are. For optimizing, it is just a tradeoff between array size and the accuracy of the generated motion profile.
    Thanks,
    Paul B.

  • Recommended Image Size for Contact Pictures?

    Hi All,
    I want to edit up some family members to attach thier images to my iPhone contacts... Does anyone know what the preferred resolution size is for the iPhone for optimal appearance?
    I've tried to do this with outlook before, and I hate the way it dithers the images to a low quality.... I'm hoping that the iPhone doesn't do this and so I wanted to experiment with how they would appear...
    But instead of making the images just any random size, I wanted to crop them to the preferred image/pixel size so that my photoshopped images look like what I expect them to show up like...
    If you could advise with the documented or known pixel resolution size used by the iPhone it would be appreciated!

    Thanks, but I don't believe that the contacts come up full screen do they?
    Usually there is a optimal image size for certain things like contact photos and I am just trying to help ensure that all my photos are the same size and don't vary...
    I might be a little carried away with how I am formatting them, but just hoping someone already knows this answer!

  • Netstream.send only text messages or any type?

    In Netstream.send() documentation it says: " ... arguments
    — Optional arguments that can be of any type."
    In the documentation to the Netstream class it says "You can
    also use NetStream objects to send text messages to all subscribed
    clients (see the NetStream.send() method)."
    I tried to send a Rectangle with Netstream.send:
    Code on Sender:
    var rect = new Rectangle(1,2,5,5);
    nc.call("serverShowRect",null, rect);
    Code on Flash Media Server: (FMS 2.0.4)
    STREAM_NAME = "myStream";
    Client.prototype.serverShowRect= function(msg)
    myStream = Stream.get(STREAM_NAME);
    myStream.send("@setDataFrame","onRectangle",msg);
    Code on Client:
    function onRectangle(infoObject:Object):void {
    trace ("Rectangle received.");
    trace ("tracing properties:");
    var key:String;
    for (key in infoObject) {
    trace(key + ": " + infoObject[key]);
    try {
    var rect:Rectangle = infoObject["rectangle"] as Rectangle;
    trace("Rect as rect:" +rect);
    catch (error:Error){
    trace(error.message);
    The function onRectangle() ist called ok. The infoObject's
    properties can be shown by trace. But I cannot convert infoObject
    into an Rectangle. var rect will be either null or I get an
    type-conversion error.
    Does anyone know how to send other data than Strings using
    Netstream.send()? Or can one actually only send Strings using FMS2

    You should receive an email receipt with every purchase that you make in iTunes on the computer or in iTunes, the App Store or the iBookstore on an iOS device. I always get a receipt via email. You are not getting them?
    If you are asking if Apple will send you a detailed purchase history, the answer to that is no since you can access that information in your account in iTunes on your computer. Click on Account under the Quick links on the right side of iTunes, enter your password at the prompt, and then click on "See all" to the right of Purchase History in the next window.

  • What is block size for dma transfers? Can it be set?

    Can't find Application Note 011, "DMA Fundamental on Various PC Platforms" on the NI website.
    Can someone please send me the link?
    What I'm trying to figure out is what is the packet size (chunk size) for DMA transfers on NI M series boards?
    i.e. how many samples are collected into the boards FIFO buffer before
    DMA transfer takes place.  (How many samples (or bytes) are
    transferred at a time?)
    Is this packet size (chunk size) configurable?  If so , what is minimum value that it can take on?
    Thanks,
    Maurice
