Option to Convert to MP3 Gone?

My son recently bought a Sony Walkman. He transferred over his itunes library onto the walkman and all but about 8 songs transferred. Those songs say they are m4p and the walkman will not play them. Ok, so I go into his library and right click so I can convert it to an mp3 file and . . . . there is no option to do this. I know there used to be and my daughter has it as an option in her library on her laptop. I checked my laptop and I don't have the convert to mp3 option either. What the heck am I missing? Halp! Thanks.

Hello,
I have tried changing my import settings for Mp3 encoder, but in the box where you do that it tells you that the Mp3 encoder does not work with songs purchased in the iTunes store. I use to be able to convert my purchases to Mp3s in older versions of iTunes. I have songs that I have bought that won't burn to CD in itunes keeps telling me that an error has occurred but won't tell me what the error is . So I need to get back to the option of creating Mp3s. I've tried deauthorizing my computer and reinstalling iTunes, and that still didn't work. I aam in dire need of help. I DON'T WANT the option of AAC versions.
Thanks

  • Itunes stopped converting to mp3

    Hi all,
I was creating a batch of mp3 files in my library when I lost the option to "Convert to mp3" part way through the job.
Using the right click on the album cover to begin with worked a treat but now it is no longer an option. Does anyone have any idea on fixing this? Or experienced it yourself?
    Thanks,

    Need more setup details.
    Nothing appears there at all?
    mp3 appears but doesn't function?
This happened one minute to the next?
You have gone into preferences and selected mp3 as the format to use?
    You have restarted iTunes?
    You have restarted the computer?

  • I don't see an option to convert caf to mp3, when I export... thoughts?

I open a CAF file in Quicktime Pro and I wanted to export it as an MP3.
I didn't see an export to MP3 option, so I exported the file to a WAV file then converted that to MP3.
Any ideas how I can export directly to MP3?
I may have missed when I was looking for this...
    Thanks..

I found a bunch of Apple Loops from an old iLife install that used the Core Audio Format.
Thanks for the heads up—I think I located them. Managed to find one 2 sec file online, but it was an old IMA 4:1 audio format. In either case, I can only convert the .caf files indirectly using built-in Mac OS X software as follows:
    1) Open the .caf file in either QT X or QT 7 Pro and export. (I prefer the QT 7 Pro "Sound to AIFF" option.)
    2) Open the exported file in iTunes and convert to MP3 for file management to compatible devices.
    3) Delete intermediate and/or sources file(s) if not wanted.

  • Can't convert to MP3

All of a sudden, I can't copy/convert a bounced AIFF project to an MP3, AAC,or Apple Lossless. The only options available are SdII, Wave, or CAF. This has never been a problem before and only occurs with this one project. I can't convert during the bounce either. Any Ideas?
    Thanks in advance.

    Hi Erik,
Preferences look OK. I'm using 10.6.2 and Logic 8.02. It seems to be something with the audio file itself. If I open an empty project and import 2 different audio files into the project, one I can convert to MP3, and the previously mentioned file I don't have the option. Very strange.
    Thank you.

  • Itunes 8 can not convert to mp3

I just updated to itunes 8 and now I can not convert to mp3 anymore! The CREATE mp3 version is greyed out and I can not pick it. I have checked and the import mp3 option is checked in the settings.

    Howdy!
also, it appears that Apple did not update the "iTunes Help" screens when they made iTunes 8 -- those screens still refer to the "advanced" tab in preferences, even though the importing functions are no longer located there:
    THEY READ as follows:
    *Choosing import settings*
You can choose the encoding format and other settings that iTunes uses to import songs. Your choices affect the audio quality and size of the song file (the higher the quality, the larger the file size).
    To choose import options:
Choose iTunes > Preferences and click Import Settings.
ETC. Well, at least they didn't do an iMove-style "revamp" to iTunes.! 8)

  • Itunes 10.7 convert to mp3

Itunes 10.7 on my pc will not convert to mp3. When i select that option, it just converts to mpeg...all original files are mpeg?

The "full" name for MP3 is MPEG Audio Layer 3. It is the audio component of the MPEG video compression scheme. Where are you seeing the files reported as MPEG? iTunes lists the "kind" of MP3 files as "MPEG audio file". Perhaps you are converting files that don't need converting since they are already in the target format.
    See http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/MP3 for background.

  • Unknown error when converting to mp3

I am trying to convert a track I just downloaded from the itunes store to an mp3.  I have done this many times and I know how to do it.  Except now when I select to convert to mp3, I get "Itunes Unknown Error (-3)".  When I try to convert to one of the other options, it just gives me the first 15 seconds.  But what I really need is the mp3.
    Stefan

I too have been getting this error when attempting to convert a newly purchased song to mp3.  This has only started happnning recently in iTunes 10.6.3.25.  It turns out that this happens when the newly purchased songs are not complete.  The real problem seems to be with downloading new songs form iTunes Store.  iTunes reports a successful and complete download, but when I go to play the song, only 30 seconds to a minute of audio exist.  It has been occurring so frequently, that I will not purchase another song until the problem is fixed.

  • Best option for converting audio to text, Best option for converting audio to text

Trying to figure out best way to convert audio (mp3 or mp4) files to text.  Right now I'm transcribing by hand interviews but have hundreds of hours and this is getting old
I found MacSpeech Scribe.  Is this a good option? How accurate is it?  Is there an open source option or another way to do this that I haven't found yet?
    Thank you!

  • Anyone can teach me how to convert my MP3 song into Ringtone on my iPhone 5

Anyone could teach me how to convert my MP3 music in my iPhone 5 into Ringtone?

You can't do this directly within the device. Your media needs to be in an iTunes library on your computer. See Recover your iTunes library from your iPod or iOS device if necessary.
    Select your song.
On the Get Info > Options tab set start and stop times less than 40 seconds apart.
Under Edit > Preferences > General tab > Import Settings choose AAC Encoder > High Quality 128k.
Right-click on the song and select Create AAC version.
Reset the start and stop times on the original track.
Right-click on the new copy and click Show in Windows Explorer.
Change the file extension from .m4a to .m4r. (You may need to adjust folder options to see the extensions)
Move the file into the Automatically Add to iTunes folder.
Delete the broken entry to the file that you renamed and moved.

  • Songs that have been converted to MP3

I'm changing the format of my songs to MP3 so that they will play on my player.  Once I've changed them, I can't find them in iTunes.  Does anyone know where I can find them in iTunes once they've been converted to MP3 format? Thanks.

Right after you convert them, sort your Music library by Date Added, and they will be the newest things, right at the top.
At any later time, you can tell the MP3s by the "Kind" column saying "MPEG audio file."  If you do not have a Kind column, enable it by going to View > View Options.
Once you find them in the library, right-click them and choose Show in Windows Explorer, and you will see where the MP3 file is.

  • Converting to MP3 files

I've always preferred the MP3 format for my music, but upon downloading the latest version of iTunes (9.1) I am no longer able to change my purchased music to the MP3 format. Am I not looking in the right place or did they take away this feature? In previous versions of iTunes I would simply right click on the file (windows computer) and was given the option to create an MP3. This option is no longer listed in iTunes 9.1. Any Answers?

thank you - I believe it worked, however I am having trouble with the implementation.
It creates a duplicate version of the song encoded in MP3 which I can find by using a search. However, I was trying to convert a single playlist and then burn to disc, this way I have to manually look up each song, and create a new playlist.
Is there a shortcut which will put the new MP# version in a specific playlist?
    Thanks

  • Converting to MP3 without showing duplicate songs in iTunes?

I have a decent song collection on my MBP which I've imported direct from CDs over the years. I've always imported the files in a lossless format (pretty sure its AIFF from memory) but now I want to convert several of the tracks to MP3 so I can fit more tracks on my iPhone and also so I can load them onto a USB drive to be played through my car stereo (which is only compatible with MP3s)
I am familiar with how to go about the conversion but the problem is that I don't want two copies of each track to show up in my library. I usually view my tracks by Artist which lists all artists in the left pane and all songs in the right pane with the tracks displayed under each album. When I convert to MP3 it shows both versions of the track but doesn't say which format each one is in.
Ideally I'd like to display only the AIFF versions of the tracks. Is there any way to only show particular file types or can anyone think of a workaround?
Unfortunately since I would be syncing my iPhone with the MP3 versions of the tracks I can't simply delete them after I've loaded them onto my phone.

There are a couple of methods to accomplish what you want to do.
    1. Connect your iPhone to your computer via USB/Thunderbolt and in the Summary panel for the iPhone in iTunes select the option to "convert higher bit rate songs to..." This will automatically down-convert the lossless files for you without putting duplicates in the iTunes library.
    2. Use Smart Playlists to display the file types you want to see. Set it up like so:
Additionally if you have ripped the in AIFF you might want to consider cross-converting the files to Apple Lossless. Using this script can help with the process: http://dougscripts.com/162

  • Aif with track markers converting to mp3 -mp4 or aac question

I think I know the answer but, I have aif file of audio made in Peak with track markers. If I convert the aif to an mp3 I can play it in I tunes or my Ipod but the track markers do not copy. Would I have to convert the mp3 to an mp4 or is it an aac file that Garageband makes? Come to think of it - it would just be like making a podcast as I would add the track markers in the chapter maker of GB3. I ask this to make sure there is no easier way since I originally made the aifs for cd's so I can select track to track with the markers there but since the original source time was 90 minutes I could only get 70 minutes on a cd but I can get the full 90 minutes in an mp3 / aac format. Is this the way to go?

The latest version of iTunes has moved the location of the settings for this. (If you have an older version the principle is the same, it's done from the Importing pane of Preferences.)
Open iTunes Preferences: select 'General'. On the line 'When you insert a CD' click 'Import Settings'.
In the pane which opens, set 'Import using' to 'MP3 encoder'. Set 'Setting' to 'Custom'; in the pane which opens you can choose the bitrate, stereo/mono, the quality etc.
Close the preferences panes. Get your recording into iTunes. Select it in the library; from the 'Advanced' menu choose 'Create MP3 version'. This will appear in the library and you can delete the AIFF version if required (make sure to send it to the Trash, which appears as an option, or it will remain in the library folder).

  • Region: cant drag to arrange, cant export via "convert to .mp3"

    LE v 7.2.3
Project: convert old LP to album length .aiff file
use LE to cut it up into song files (ie, manually select regions)
    create regions in Audio Window
Audio window shows master song file plus 12 other songs (as regions)
Audio File menu: (with region selected) Convert to .mp3
    "No Audio File Selected !"
dumb, very dumb computer. You have the info needed and can see what Im doing. The region isnt draggable into the Arrange window either.
Cycle thru screensets 1, 2, 3 etc and randomly come across and arrange window with all the previously dragged regions. How in the heck ?

I'm trying to perform a simple MP3 export of my own music from my iPod
    You cannot.
There are no "convert to mp3" options anywhere, as mentioned in the help.
The songs need to be in iTunes, not on the iPod.
I'm unable to do a simple copy from my iPod by dragging a song from the iPod into the iTunes window on my Mac.
    This is not possible.
Likewise, I cannot drag the song out of the iPod onto my desktop, which used to work.
No, this has never been possible unless you enabled the iPod for disk use and you added the song to the iPod on the desktop, not thru iTunes.
