Optional intalls on 10.6 disc - Installer stops with 2 minutes remaing!?

I'm trying to install the optional bits and pieces that come included with the 10.6 Snow Leopard disc on my MacBook... But after it does it's bits and pieces, the Installer seems to just stop as it gets to the two minutes remaining mark... It says 'Moving items into place...' Any ideas anyone?
What have Apple done to Mac OS X?!

Likewise here, stopping at 4 minutes for half an hour now on the optional installs. I'll wait another half hour or so before I give up on it, but dang.
Oh, it just changed from "Moving Items Into Place" to "Running Package Scripts." That's promising.

  • HT4796 Migration assistant had stopped with 17 minutes to go

Migrations assistant from windows laptop to my new Mac book Pro , mountain lion, has stopped with 17 minutes still to go! Any help appreciated.

I suspect it's failing due to two things, you didn't use Setup Assistant to Migrate and the eithernet connection. When you use Setup Assistant (this only runs when OS is turned on for the first time) that seems to be more reliable than MA. MA will create a second user account where Setup Assistant will make your new machine look just like the old one. Next many people that try using an ethernet cable have the same problem, why I have no idea.
If you want to use SA you will need to reformat your HD and reinstall OS X and it will prompt you to migrate towards the end of the installation. If you just got the computer and don't have too much new stuff on it this may be something to think about.

My rental movie -- Safe House -- stopped/froze with 57 minutes leftnto play. How can I watch the rest of the movie, or delete it to download it again?

    Welcome to the Apple community.
Have you tried stopping the movie and trying to start it again.
Unfortunately you cannot re-download rentals. If the problem continues, select the content which is causing a problem and use the 'Report a problem' button in Your Purchase History.

  • IMacG4: DVD shows on desktop, but installation stops after a minute

With my iMac G4 (1.2 ghz + 1 gig dram), the Leopard DVD shows on the desktop. Go thru the install process, selecting "Erase and Install" on an external drive ... stops after about a minute or two with "Cannot install on this disk .. cannot validate(???) some files".
I've poured over this Discussion Board and have seen several other identical instances. I also have a DVD with no mfg or date stamp on either its inner or outer rings; further, the Apple logo is completely transparent.
I called Apple Tech Support, got bumped up to Level 2 Tech Support where I was told that I have not scientifically demonstrated that it is not my third-party (LaCie) firewire drive. That is mathematically true; however, with the volume of similar issues reported on this Forum, I reject this hypothesis as reasonable.
To continue, I called Sales and found a very nice gentleman with whom I shared every detail of my history, including the comments by Level 2 Tech Support. The sales person agreed to send me a replacement Leopard disk which I am expecting later today. Further, I intend to return my existing Leopard disk via snail mail.

    To continue ...
I have also scoured macfixit.com and noted their detailed procedures to first clone the Leopard disk to one partition of an external drive, select this partition as the start-up drive, anf finally reboot the Mac and follow the instructions on "Erase and Install" on another partition or another external drive.
If the second Leopard disk fails, then I intend to meticulously follow the above cloning procedure.
Just one more thing, and this goes back to my frustrating experience in installing the then-brand new iWork 08. I proved beyond any scientific doubt that this installer demanded that there be no remnants of previous versions of iPages or Keynote anywhere. So I trashed these remnants and the subsequent installation was successful.
I am curious if this unreasonable requirement pertains to any of the individual installs that are part of the overall Leopard installation procedure??

  • Windows Update does not work, Windows Standalone Update Installer stops with error 0xc8000247 (Windows 7 Home Premium on Acer Aspire 1810TZ notebook)

I purchased a new notebook with Windows 7 in October. During the first weeks I uninstalled McAfee and replaced the harddrive. Since November Windows Update fails with error messages and defender does not start anymore. I made several virus scans (complete) with multiple antivirus programs but nothing showed up.
Since it took my days to install various software, I do not want to re-install W7. I also have no good backup that I could restore.
I am really surprised that there is not even a single entry regarding the error code in the Microsoft Knowledge base or elsewhere.
    I really would appreciate help.

I hit this same problem... I spent days trying to figure out what went wrong. MS advise of doing; Windows7 re-installs, BIOS/firmware updates, drivers changed, etc etc etc.
I installed a new(large) SEAGATE Momentus XT hybrid 750GB SATA drive upon newly purchased notebook, but the twist here is between the storage configuration mode in the BIOS, ATA vs. AHCI. See, the DELL BIOS required to configure my laptop storage for AHCI
mode, because I had the 4GB Intel Flash Cache Module (Turbo Memory) installed on the DELL Precision notebook. The Flash Cache is installed internally in the mini-pcie slot, loaded the Intel storage drivers, and when it works, is an outstanding feature which
    supports:
    Windows ReadyDrive*
    Windows ReadyBoost*
Looking at the details of the Intel storage drivers that support the INTEL TURBO MEMORY, they're from 2009. Of course it was recommended by users to install these drivers first before anything else, so it would function best, but this was part of the
cause to all the problems with Windows 7.  I've provided links to Intel Flash Cache info for those interested. Unfortunately, loading the HP/Intel Storage drivers fixes the Windows permissions/update problems, but "Breaks" the Intel Turbo Flash Cache
functionality now, even though Microsoft still supports ReadyDrive in Windows 7.
"Intel® Turbo Memory is a primary PC component, along with the CPU, chipset, and system memory. It caches large amounts of frequently used data or user selected applications for faster access by the processor. This decreases the need for hard-disk accesses,
saving both time and power, which equates to increased performance and energy efficiency. That's good news for users who run data-intensive software like media applications. It's also a good match to the substantial system requirements to load and run Windows
    Vista*.
Intel Turbo Memory is a single solution that accelerates data transfer both to and from the processor."
Intel discontinued support for the modules or drivers with the marketing move to producing their own SSD storage drives.

For me, I hit all the symptoms everyone else hit and thanks to humphrey for his find. I just wish Microsoft/Intel would get together and fix this Windows 7 issue between SW/HW; Large Drive Sizes, Licensing/Permissions, Flash Memory, ATA vs. ACHI, BIOS, etc.
There's been an incredible amount of loss productivity, resources, and costs incurred on this one ISSUE by everyone involved.

During installation of Elements 12under Windows 7, while installing Shared Technologies installation stops with error DF 037, and then reverses the entire process. I found the corresponding errors in the installation log: Unable to delete a number of directories under:

  • OS X Installation stopped at Disc 2, won't restart or go further.

I went to reformat my friend's Macbook. It's a late 2006 version. I used the discs it came with, and as I've heard, the second disc is all the unessentials. Such as the iLife and iWork. At any rate: the first disc looks much more visually scratched than the second, however, about midway through the second disc, it says there's an installation error, and informs you to restart the computer and try again... but it stops at the same place with the same error. And if I try to start again to see if there's an option to not install the second disc, it boots up with the apple logo, then gives the circle with the line through it and spits the first disc out. Then it goes right back to the place it was before.
I'm quite confused and I would like not to spend money on this if possible. I've even tried to rip and burn the disc on a different computer, but it didn't work.
BTW: This is the 10.4.8 version of OS X.
    AHT Version: 3A114
    Disc version: 1.2
    2Z691-5946-A
If I can just get a copy of the second disc (if that's even legal, not sure) or a work around, I'd appreciate it!

Hi IDSkoT, and a warm welcome to the forums!
That second Disc thing happens frequently, 2 main causes... bad DVD, Hard Drive errors.
First we need to get it to boot from the first Disc again, insert it & hold the Option/alt key down at bootup to choose it.
    2. When your computer finishes starting up from the disc, choose Disk Utility from the Installer menu. (In Mac OS X 10.4 or later, you must select your language first.)
*Important: Do not click Continue in the first screen of the Installer. If you do, you must restart from the disc again to access Disk Utility.*
    3. Click the Erase tab.
    4. Click the disclosure triangle to the left of the hard drive icon to display the names of your hard disk volumes and partitions.
    5. Select your Mac OS X volume.
    6. Highlight the drive, select Partition Tab, then Format type... MacOS Extended Journalled, select the Security Options button, choose Zero Out Data, Erase... after completion hopefully you'll be able to install.
That second Disc thing happens frequently, the best way around it is to do a Custom install, and eliminate enough Printer Drivers, Languages, Fonts, and Applications you don't need... then it may skip #2 altogether.

  • Reinstalling problems 10.4 disc 2. Installation stops at "pages".

During clean install installation stops at pages.  Can I get a new disc 2 if its defect.

If you don't have many scratches on the disk , I don't think your disk is defective. On older powerbooks, mostly the dvd drive goes bad after several years , they become more sensetive in time.
You can't find that replacement disk actually , maybe only on ebay which will cost you at least $40 .
Try to take your laptop to an Apple Authoirzed Service , they should be able to install your system with a firewire drive same day if your dvd drive is not reading properly . Or they should have the installation disks.
    Good luck

  • Installations stops when trying to install Adobe Acrobat XI on Mac OS 10.8.4

I kept getting this message that Adobe Acrobat was not able to update the software and so I decided I would just update my software from Adobe Acrobat Pro 9 for mac to vs 11.  I called tech support and they told me to uninstall acrobat 9 Pro completely first, which I did.  Now, I have downloaded version 11 and tried installing this via the trial (wanted to make sure it worked) and as it goes through the install process, it gets hung up with one minute to go trying to rewrite script files.  It stays like this for enternity.  If you right click on installer to force quit the install, it won't let you.  If you go to the apple sign and force quit it from the menu, it will kill the installer.  However, the computer won't shut down because it still thinks it is installing software.  So the only way to kill it is to do a hard reset.   I called tech support and was on hold for for 40 minutes and then the tech tried for an hour to fix this.  This included deleting the uninstall program for Adobe Acrobat 9 Pro and also reinstalling the software from a fresh download that he sent me.  I still had the same result.
To make matters worse, I only have Acrobat Pro v 8 on disc (there was a free vs 9 upgrade that was online that I got) and as a result, I don't have version 9 to install back onto the computer.  The tech was going to try to send me a link to download version 9 but he wasn't sure he could do it.  Someone was going to get back to me, but no one has yet.  So now, not only do I not have version 11, I don't even have my old version 9!!!!  My only option is to go back to version 8 which I have the disk for.  This is ridiculous.  So if anyone out there has some suggestions on how I can get version 11 to install, that would be great.  I am running Mac OS X 10.8.4 on a 13" Macbook Pro with Retina.  Thanks.

I've been scouring every place I can possibly think of for nearly four hours trying to find an Acrobat 9 Mac download - no luck I can find Windows downloads back to 8, but nothing for Mac.

  • CC installation stops searching file server at 2%

    Hi
I try to update the newest version, but the installation stops at 2% with the message "searching server'.
PC W78 is connected to internet. Did relaunch, but no change.
    This since 2 days now
    Thanks for your help

The key of the problem may be found here:
    SP2-0306: Invalid option.
    Usage: CONN[ECT] [logon] [AS {SYSDBA|SYSOPER}]
    where <logon> ::= <username>[<password>][@<connect_identifier>] | /
Which means the dbca is not recognizing some parameter. Initial database creation assumes you are able to connect as sysda without a password, Which means you should be able to connect as a valid user with ORA_DBA and connect as batch privileges. If you are installing with domain related authentication issues, then it could be the most likely reason dbca is not able to go ahead with installation.
    1. Determine if you are connected with the ORA_DBA group privilege. It should be so if you are locally connected (not with a domain account)
    2. Verfiy if you are able to connect as sysdba, open a sql prompt this way:
    sqlplus / as sysdba
    3. If you are able to connect, it means your authentication mechanism is properly working.
    4. Verify the contents of the alert.log associated with the instance, some error message there will bring light on this issue.
Please feedback on the results of this initial troubleshooting procedure.

    - restart your web cache
    - open DBA Studio in mode stand alone:
    # oemconsole dbastudio
Connect to your DB Cache, and re-synchronize your client list (I can't remmember well, but it is option in the menu tools).
