ORA-00018 when no where near session limit
We have a database where we get ORA-00018 even though we have no where near the number of sessions configured in the database. We think we only have a couple of dozen sessions, and indeed select * from v$session shows only 33 rows.
Is it possible that there is a Linux limit or some other problem that is generating this error? Can I look at an error log to learn more?
Thanks for any help offered.
Hi,
I guess, that resource_limit parameter is not your problem
What is the current value for the sessions parameter ?

Oracle 8.1.7.4 is the final patchset of the last release for Oracle 8i, so it's a rather
stable version.
Do you have a way to tune this query so that it can run faster ?
Do you have correct statistics on the optimizer ?

ORA-00018 maximum number of session
Hello:
We have a strange problem with a sql statement that when is invoked inside a php or asp program generates the following error:
ORA-00018 maximum number of session
We are using Oracle 9i installed over Red Hat with IIS 5.0. This query works fine in sqlplus. The query is:
select * from vnoticias_p WHERE contains(titulo, '" . $nom . "') > 0
titulo is a context type index formed with two concatenated fields.
The problem had caused serious problems for us, because hangs our server every time the script is being executed.
We ran this script only with one user connected, and we don´t understand how this query generates too many sessions?
Appreciate your help
ThanksThanks for update.
It is supposed that PROCESSES is the default value during installation. I don't know what is the default PROCESSES value of Oracle 11g in Solaris 10. Can you tell me so that I can correct SESSIONS?
During Oracle 11g installation on Solaris 10, why did I get the following errors?
ORA-12801: error signaled in parallel query server P072
ORA-00018: maximum number of sessions exceeded
ORA-06512: at "SYS.UTL_RECOMP", line 629
ORA-06512: at "SYS.UTL_RECOMP", line 671
ORA-06512: at line 1
What is the best method to solve the above problem for Oracle 11g installation?
SPFILE can not be modified manually. "ALTER SYSTEM " is one way. When I create another new Oracle instance, new Oralce instance uses the default PREOCESSES value or new PROCESSES value which I changed by "alter system"?

Where the session begin when user login
Hi all,
Just want a detail understanding of where the session starts when user login in ATG application (handle login), and where the session ends (handlelogout)
thanks and regards
333Session management is completely application server related.
ATG do not play any role in session management.
Refer this doc to under how session is created and managed.

ORA-02248: invalid option for ALTER SESSION when logging in from client
Hi,
I am a junior dba and I was hoping if someone could help me out with a problem I am having. I recently installed on oracle 10g client on my windows machine. I am trying to remote connect to my database on a unix box but I am getting the below error when trying to connect from the client.
ERROR:
ORA-00604: error occurred at recursive SQL level 1
ORA-02248: invalid option for ALTER SESSION
I've done some digging around on this and I think it might be something to do with the NLS_LANG setting maybe. I'm not sure though and to be honest I'm a bit lost on this.
Any help would be greatly appreciated. Cheers.

ORA-00604: error occurred at recursive SQL level 1#ORA-00018
Hi All,
I have just rebuilt an existing application server, the setup I have now is a database server with oracle and two application servers. The problem I am having is whenever I bring up the new application server I get short dumps and error messages in the log which is ORA-00604: error occurred at recursive SQL level 1#ORA-00018 does anyone have an idea of why I am getting this error when the new server is started?
Thanks
Jayhello,
the oracle error ora-00018 means
ORA-00018: maximum number of sessions exceeded
This means that too many R/3 workprocesses (new application server - additional work
processes connecting to the oracle database) try to connect to the database at the
same time. You need to increase the value for the oracle sessions in the initSID.ora
file or/and spfile.
Kind regards,

Difference between ORA-00018 & ORA-00020
Hi experts,
I am confused about ORA-00018 & ORA-00020, it easier to understand how number of session increased [ora-18],
but what are the special causes that increase number of oracle processes [ora-20] ?
Thanks in advance. There is a relationship between sessions on a database and the
number of
processes. What happens if we increase the number of sessions without
increasing the number of processes???
The parameters SESSIONS and PROCESSES determine the
size of two arrays in the SGA.
If you try to create more sessions on an instance than specified
by the SESSIONS parameter, you will get an ORA-00018: maximum
number of sessions exceeded.
If you try to create more processes on an instances than specified
by the PROCESSES prameter, you wil get an ORA-00020: maximum
number of processes exceeded.
The number of sessions and processes on your instance can been
seen using a COUNT(*) against V$PROCESS and V$SESSION.
Your job is to determine resonable values, so your users can continue
to work without getting neither ORA-18 nor ORA-20 during normal
conditions. (A run away job, that keeps starting new sessions is not
a normal condition, and it should be stopped by ORA-18 or ORA-20
whichever happens first).
You can join the two V$-views using the columns V$SESSION.PADDR
and V$PROCESS.ADDR.
It is quite normal to see a 1:1 relationship between processes
and sessions. However one OCI-program can create multiple
sessions belonging to one process. Users of Oracle Portal
will experience this behaviour.
The default value for SESSIONS is 1.1*PROCESSES + 5.
It is appropriate for some databases and inappropriate for
others (e.g. Oracle Portal).
Also, I remember a limit on the OS regarding the number of processes
allowed per Oracle user - also I know there is a semaphore
relationship.
On HP-UX there is a kernel parameter called NPROC. Like
PROCESSES and SESSIONS it should have a reasonable
value.

Hi All,
We are getting message while generating some reports. Pl. see the Error Text below for message. For time being we have bumped the session limit to unlimited to take care of this problem for now. But the question is u201CIs there a way available in MII to refresh(cycle) the Data source connectionu201D So that the DB session limit can be kept un altered?
When we search this on different forums, we got a solution which we aleady implemented(bumping the session limit to unlimited). But we are looking for a solution from MII side.
Any help will be appreciated

Usage allowance is near its limit
Hi
I have just got an e-mail stating that my usage allowance is near its limit (7GB of 10BG). I just have 2 questions really.
Is there a way of seeing how much you have used on your account (i cant seem to find it any where) or is it just the e-mail warning?
Also when is the start date of ur limit and when does it reset again?
Thanks
Dan>and yes i am useing the home hub, how do i use the builtin useage monitor? Just go to the home page http://bthomehub.home/ and it will tell you the data transmitted and received since the connection was last reset. TThe figure is reset to zero any time the home hub is rebooted or needs to re-connect, so you have to monitor it regularly to keep track of the actual usage. The figure will include usage that isn't chargeable, such as BT Digital Vault and BT Vision.

Can some one point me in the right direction how to solve this error.
Thanks Roelof.Who did you create the second table, in other words, how did you COPY the table as you said...
If you created the second table via a CTAS (create table as select) then you will have created a table that is not the same as the original one. AFAIK I have once created an enhancement request for this after discovering that JDeveloper, for example, creates a "copy" via a CTAS which creates the wrong structure. Double check via package DBMS_METADATA.
SQL> set long 1000000
SQL> select DBMS_METADATA('TABLE','TABLE_WITH_XMLTYPE','SchemaA') from dual;
SQL> select DBMS_METADATA('TABLE','TABLE_WITH_XMLTYPE','SchemaB') from dual;If you have got two different tables, than Mark's solution should help.

I just dumped thousands of emails from my icloud storage, as it was full. That was about 35 hours ago, I'm still not getting emails. I'm no where near full now....how long before I will get emails again?
Does anyone have an answer to this problem? It's been 4 or 5 days now and iCloud still says I have 0kb of 5GB available, and 6.1GB of mail on iCloud. I guess that's better than yesterday when it said I had 8.3GB of mail. Does anyone know if it simply takes Apple a week to actually empty a mailbox?
thanks in advance, hopefully tomorrow it says I have only 4GB of non-existent mail and I can start using it again... -
CLI session limit 32 reached. Exiting. on nexus n5k
Hi Guys ,
I'm having a problem with Nexus n5k , when i'm trying to telnet to the machine ,i get this error :
"CLI session limit 32 reached. Exiting."
I can connect to it by console ,but i don;t know how to clear all those sessions .
Needs help
Thanks ,
RonI am also having this issue on out 5Ks. We resolved the problem before by consoling into the system and doing "show users" and then "clear line (vty-line)". This will allow you to ssh or telnet into the system again. But I am wondering how I can determine why this is happening all of a sudden. I have been working with our Nexus 5K for over a year and a half and have never had this issue. Now all of a sudden it has happend two time in the last 3 months. What do I need to look into to resolve this? I am not not exiting properly and it is not killing the session? Please advise.
