Please advice.
RegardsHi user:
1. Yes the database and lsnr were closed as the tar files were created. So, i assume thate there are no any oracle session avalibale when you copy files from source to target
2. Yes I would also like to mention that it already had an old instance. So this is just a new clone. So, i mention you have valid entery on /etc/hosts file
3. Please can you describe what permissions as from root user it was done as
chown -R oratest:dba <db tier folders> If your target user is oratest than syntax seems correct, did you copy oracle_home too from source to target and this home owner is oratest again right?
Regard

ORA-01503: CREATE CONTROLFILE failed
Hello.
I'm trying to install an ORACLE EBS 11i on an Oracle Linux Release 5 Update 5 Media Pack v1 for x86 (32 bit) from stage.
The process is going great until the "Creating the database controlfile..." step. It crashes there.
I've looked in the log file and this is what I can find:

How do I create a new control file and use it ?
I don't know if I gave needed information. If you need more details, please ask and I will try to provide them.
Thank you and regards,

Thanks for the quick reply.
I've checked and that file doesn't exists.

For some reason it stops at tx_data9.dbf.

I think I will redo the DB stage as well.

Report suddenly showing ORA-20001: Error fetching column value: ORA-06502:
Hi,
Some reports in my applications are suddenly showing:
ORA-20001: Error fetching column value: ORA-06502: PL/SQL: numeric or value error: character string buffer too small
instead iof the data they used to show.
In my development system I can fix this by:
1. changing the column alias in my sql
select 'a' alias1 from dual becomes
select 'a' alias2 from dual
2. SAVE CHANGES
3. change column alias back to original
select 'a' alias2 from dual becomes
select 'a' alias1 from dual
4. reorder columns back to original in the 'report attributes' tab
alias1 is now at the bottom of my colum list - i just bounce it up to column 4 using the up arrows
5. SAVE CHANGES
then everything starts working OK again.
There seems to be nothing wrong with my sql as I can make it works on a new page or after I run the above steps, so I guess something is breaking somewhere but I cannot work out what.
Has anyone else seen this? Does anyone know the cause? Does anyone have a fix for this that does not involve the above steps (plus redeployment to prodcution and all the work that involves)?
I am seeing this on version 2.3 and 3.0.

Migration from 9i to 11g Transparent Gateway results in a) ORA-12704: character set mismatch b) ORA-02070: database ... does not support SYS_OP_C2C in this context
What Transparent Gateway (TG) 11g configuration steps prevent the following errors?:
a) ORA-12704: character set mismatch
b) ORA-02070: database <DB_link_name> does not support SYS_OP_C2C in this context
Hints:
The current 9i TG works with the existing views and packages. These same db objects will not compile using the new 11g TG.
The db objects are on an Oracle 10g database linked to an SQL Server 2008 R2 database.
Since the 9i TG works I assume a configuration to the 11g TG will get it working same as before. But what...
Is is something controlled by these parameters? (Sorry, I don't know how this stuff works. I'm the application developer. My DBAs setup the Transparent Gateways.):
Parameters in the Gateway Startup Shell script:
ORA_NLS33
NLS_LANG
Parameters in the initsid.ora file:
HS_LANGUAGE
HS_NLS_DATE_FORMAT
HS_NLS_DATE_LANGUAGE
I'm avoiding the known workaround to refactor the VIEWS and PACKAGES to contain CAST() statements to explicitly match the data types. A server side fix to the 11g TG is preferred.
Sample code:
a) ORA-12704: character set mismatch
... is caused by SQL that works with my 9i TG but not with my 11g TG. It's a snippit from my view that won't compile:
select status_code -- Oracle VARCHAR2(30)
from ora_app_interfaces
UNION
select "StatusCode" as status_code -- SQL Server NVARCHAR(30)
from SqlAppInterfaces
Example workaround that I'm avoiding:
select status_code
from ora_app_interfaces
UNION
select CAST("StatusCode" as VARCHAR(30)) as status_code
from SqlAppInterfaces
b) ORA-02070: database <DB_link_name> does not support SYS_OP_C2C in this context
A line of code in the procedure that compiles correctly but fails to execute:
-- Insert into SQL Server from Oracle
insert into PatientMedRecNum (
"PatID", -- SQL Server INT
"MedRecNum", -- SQL Server NVARCHAR(11)
"Hospital") -- SQL Server NVARCHAR(30)
values (
pi_pat_id, -- Oracle NUMBER
pi_med_rec_num, -- Oracle VARCHAR2
pi_hospital); -- Oracle VARCHAR2
I'd guess the errors are caused by the TG's implicit conversion between the Oracle VARCHAR2 and the SQL Server NVARCHAR... but this works fine on the 9i TG... how do I set it up to work on the 11g TG?
Thanks!Trace of 11g TG... generating errors due to lack of automatic mapping from SQL NVARCHAR to Oracle NVARCHAR, where the previous 9g TG mapped from SQL NVARCHAR to Oracle VARCHAR2.

I have an application made in devlopment which is working fine and i jsut migrated it to production but when i am running one of the page in the app in production it si throwing this error "ORA-20001: Error fetching column value: ORA-06502: PL/SQL: numeric or value error: character string buffer too small"... this report is ment for generating report.
Now what i have done, i compared both dev and prod environment but i have not found and changes except this one. In the page of both the application in dev and prod under shared component under under template the region of breadcrum and report region is showing in different position. i dont think it a problem because of that i am facing problem.
If anybody have idea how could i recitfy the prbs i will be highly thankful to you
Regards
Adifriends i have seen where the error is coming but i am unable to trace out how to increase the size of lov which i have made.
when i am taking display as select list(named lov) it is throwing me the error "ORA-20001: Error fetching column value: ORA-06502: PL/SQL: numeric or value error: character string buffer too small" but if i am taking display as "popup lov(named lov)" under tablular form element under one of the column in the report, it is working properly. but not shwoing the report the way we want it to show. For that reason i want to increase the size of the love which i have made. -

ORA-01810: format code appears twice ORA-02063: preceding line from PULSARL
Hi ,
I am running this query
select distinct to_char(a.USAGEDATE, 'dd/mm/yyyy hh:mm'),round((a.avgifoutoctets * a.numberofrows / (a.avgdeltatime * a.numberofrows) * 8 / 1000 ), 2)as avginoctetrate from vware.vhourlyrtgusageextract a ,vware.rtginterface b where a.id = b.ID and a.id = 125555 and a.USAGEDATE >= TO_CHAR(TO_DATE('2011-05-22 11:40:47', 'yyyy-MM-dd HH:mm:ss')) and a.USAGEDATE < TO_CHAR(TO_DATE('2011-05-29 11:40:47', 'yyyy-MM-dd HH:mm:ss')) and a.IFDESCRIPTION = 'Serial1/0' order by 1
I am getting this exception
ORA-01810: format code appears twice ORA-02063: preceding line from PULSARL
Could anybody please tell me what is the issue ??Hi,
The issue is:
SQL> select TO_DATE ( '2011-05-29 11:40:47', 'yyyy-MM-dd HH:mm:ss') from dual;
select TO_DATE ( '2011-05-29 11:40:47', 'yyyy-MM-dd HH:mm:ss') from dual
ERROR at line 1:
ORA-01810: format code appears twiceYou are using MM twice. MM means two digit months. You probably mean MI for minutes for the last one:
SQL> select TO_DATE ( '2011-05-29 11:40:47', 'yyyy-MM-dd HH:mi:ss') from dual;
TO_DATE(
11-05-29
SQL>Note that you have same mistake in your to_char as well, only this does not fail.
The ORA-02063 just tells you that the error came from a different server, PULSARL, which means you must be selecting across a database link.
Btw, what does this mean:
AND a.usagedate >=
TO_CHAR (TO_DATE ( '2011-05-22 11:40:47', 'yyyy-MM-dd HH:mm:ss'))Why are you converting a string into DATE and then back into string? - What data type is usagedate?

How to avoid: ORA-01403 no data found AND ORA-00001
Hi,
below my code:
CREATE TABLE TAB_TO_EM
EM_NUMBER VARCHAR2(32),
NAME_FIRST VARCHAR2(32),
NAME_LAST VARCHAR2(32),
MAILBOX VARCHAR2(32)
ALTER TABLE TAB_TO_EM
ADD (CONSTRAINT PK_EM_NUMBER PRIMARY KEY (EM_NUMBER));
CREATE TABLE EM
EM_ID VARCHAR2(32),
EM_NUMBER VARCHAR2(32),
NAME_FIRST VARCHAR2(32),
NAME_LAST VARCHAR2(32),
EMAIL VARCHAR2(32)
ALTER TABLE EM
ADD (CONSTRAINT PK_EM_ID PRIMARY KEY (EM_ID));THE PRIMARY KEY EM_ID COMES FROM THE TAB_TO_EM TABLE LINKED IN THIS WAY:
NAME_LAST||'_'||SUBSTR(NAME_FIRST,1,3)||'_'||SUBSTR(EM_NUMBER,-2)
I created this procedure to insert a new EM_NUMBER into EM table:
CREATE OR REPLACE PROCEDURE INS_NEW_RECORD IS
ERR_NUM NUMBER;
ERR_MSG VARCHAR2(300);
V_COUNT NUMBER;
V_EM_ID VARCHAR2(64);
CURSOR A IS
SELECT A.EM_NUMBER, A.NAME_FIRST, A.NAME_LAST, A.MAILBOX
FROM TAB_TO_EM A;
BEGIN
FOR CUR_A IN A
LOOP
SELECT COUNT(*)
INTO V_COUNT
FROM EM2 B
WHERE B.EM_NUMBER=CUR_A.EM_NUMBER;
IF V_COUNT = 0 THEN
-- here insert a new record
INSERT INTO EM2 (EM_ID, EM_NUMBER, NAME_FIRST,NAME_LAST, EMAIL)
VALUES (CUR_A.NAME_LAST||'_'||SUBSTR(CUR_A.NAME_FIRST,1,3)||SUBSTR(CUR_A.EM_NUMBER,-2),
CUR_A.EM_NUMBER, CUR_A.NAME_FIRST,CUR_A.NAME_LAST, CUR_A.MAILBOX);
END IF;
END LOOP;
END INS_NEW_RECORD;Example of my table:
Insert into TAB_TO_EM
(EM_NUMBER, NAME_FIRST, NAME_LAST, MAILBOX)
Values
('22333', 'AAAA', 'BBBB', 'XXXX');
Insert into TAB_TO_EM
(EM_NUMBER, NAME_FIRST, NAME_LAST, MAILBOX)
Values
('11222', 'AAAA', 'BBBB', 'XXXX');
Insert into TAB_TO_EM
(EM_NUMBER, NAME_FIRST, NAME_LAST, MAILBOX)
Values
('00122', 'AAAA', 'BBBB', 'XXXX');
commit;
execute INS_NEW_RECORD;

ORA-01403 no data foundI'd like to create a stored procedure with these conditions:
IF em_id is duplicate insert new em_id= (CUR_A.NAME_LAST||'_'||SUBSTR(CUR_A.NAME_FIRST,1,3)||SUBSTR(CUR_A.EM_NUMBER,-2)||'_'||SUBSTR ('000' || SEQ_EM_ID.NEXTVAL, -3)
ELSE em_id= (CUR_A.NAME_LAST||'_'||SUBSTR(CUR_A.NAME_FIRST,1,3)||SUBSTR(CUR_A.EM_NUMBER,-2)
How can I write my procedure correctly?
Thanks in advance!1) What are you expecting this piece of code to do?
SELECT COUNT(*)
INTO V_COUNT
FROM EM B
WHERE B.EM_NUMBER=CUR_A.EM_NUMBER;My answer would be that i expect it to do nothing (unless i've misunderstood what you're doing up until now). You are making a new type of key in the EM table by frankensteining data elements from your tab_to_em table, so i would expect that code to always return 0. By the way, that's what we have a dup_val_on_index catch for, no need to read the table, you try your insert, if you dup a value, you take appropriate action.
I guess the best way to proceed based on what you've provided would be 2 SQL statements.
1) insert records where you cannot find a match in the target table
2) insert records where you CAN find a match in the target table
INSERT INTO EM (EM_ID, EM_NUMBER, NAME_FIRST,NAME_LAST, EMAIL)
select
A.NAME_LAST||'_'||SUBSTR(A.NAME_FIRST,1,3)||SUBSTR(A.EM_NUMBER,-2),
A.EM_NUMBER,
A.NAME_FIRST,
A.NAME_LAST,
A.MAILBOX
from tab_to_em a
where not exists
select null
from em b
where b.NAME_LAST||'_'||SUBSTR(b.NAME_FIRST,1,3)||SUBSTR(b.EM_NUMBER,-2) = a.em_number
INSERT INTO EM (EM_ID, EM_NUMBER, NAME_FIRST,NAME_LAST, EMAIL)
select
A..NAME_LAST||'_'||SUBSTR(A..NAME_FIRST,1,3)||SUBSTR(A..EM_NUMBER,-2)'_'||SUBSTR ('000' || SEQ_EM_ID.NEXTVAL, -3),
A.EM_NUMBER,
A.NAME_FIRST,
A.NAME_LAST,
A.MAILBOX
from tab_to_em a
where exists
select null
from em b
where b.NAME_LAST||'_'||SUBSTR(b.NAME_FIRST,1,3)||SUBSTR(b.EM_NUMBER,-2) = a.em_number
);This comes with the caveat that what you are doing is a REALLY bad idea. Really really really bad idea.
The baddies are
1) your choice for a 'primary key'
2) using a sequence and then substring it
3) this is from a business perspective, storing the same person multiple times!
Now, i don't know your system or requirements, but i am speaking in general terms here, this seems like a all around bad idea and i would suggest you revisit the design.
