ORA-01516: nonexistent log file, datafile, or tempfile

Hi,
in 10g R2 on Win XP when I do :
alter database rename file 'C:\oracle\oradata\ORCL\USERS01.DBF' to 'C:\oracle\oradata\ORCL2\USERS01.DBF';
I receive :
ORA-01511: fail to change name ...
ORA-01516: nonexistent log file, datafile, or tempfile
'C:\oracle\oradata\ORCL\USERS01.DBF'
But it realy exists.
Please help.

Hi,
I'm comming back now.
Before putting offline the data files, I tried with log file (since to duplicate database I should rename all (see the below script) but :
SQL> alter database rename file 'C:\oracle\oradata\orcl\REDO01.LOG' to 'C:\oracle\oradata\ORCL2\REDO01.LOG';
alter database rename file 'C:\oracle\oradata\orcl\REDO01.LOG' to 'C:\oracle\oradata\ORCL2\REDO01.LOG'
ORA-01516: nonexistent log file, datafile, or tempfile
'C:\oracle\oradata\orcl\REDO01.LOG'
Can we put a log file off line ?
Thank you.
My script :
alter database rename file     'C:\oracle\oradata\orcl\EXAMPLE01.DBF'     to     'C:\oracle\oradata\ORCL2\EXAMPLE01.DBF';
alter database rename file     'C:\oracle\oradata\orcl\REDO01.LOG'     to     'C:\oracle\oradata\ORCL2\REDO01.LOG';
alter database rename file     'C:\oracle\oradata\orcl\REDO02.LOG'     to     'C:\oracle\oradata\ORCL2\REDO02.LOG';
alter database rename file     'C:\oracle\oradata\orcl\REDO03.LOG'     to     'C:\oracle\oradata\ORCL2\REDO03.LOG';

alter database rename file     'C:\oracle\oradata\orcl\SYSTEM01.DBF'     to     'C:\oracle\oradata\ORCL2\SYSTEM01.DBF';
alter database rename file     'C:\oracle\oradata\orcl\TEMP01.DBF'     to     'C:\oracle\oradata\ORCL2\TEMP01.DBF';
alter database rename file     'C:\oracle\oradata\orcl\UNDOTBS01.DBF'     to     'C:\oracle\oradata\ORCL2\UNDOTBS01.DBF';
alter database rename file     'C:\oracle\oradata\orcl\USERS01.DBF'     to     'C:\oracle\oradata\ORCL2\USERS01.DBF';
Any way I put USER01.DBF off line on sourcr (orcl) :
SQL> alter database datafile 'C:\ORACLE\ORADATA\ORCL\USERS01.DBF' offline;
But again :
SQL> alter database rename file 'C:\oracle\oradata\orcl\USERS01.DBF' to 'C:\oracle\oradata\ORCL2\USERS01.DBF';
alter database rename file 'C:\oracle\oradata\orcl\USERS01.DBF' to 'C:\oracle\oradata\ORCL2\USERS01.DBF'
ORA-01516: nonexistent log file, datafile, or tempfile
'C:\oracle\oradata\orcl\USERS01.DBF'

    Hi Hsawwan,
    Thanks for your reply.
    It is my Custom Procedure. I executed the same procedure from backend(ofcource I used DBMS_OUTPUT instead of FND_FILE) and it's displaying all messages. I am not getting below messages in Log file . I am somewhat doubtful in this, but I am not sure

    Hi friends,
    My database is runing in archive log mode.I had taken cold backup on Sunday but i am taking archive log file daily evening.
    Wednesday my database crash that means i lost all control file,redo log file,datafile etc.
    I have archived log file backup till Tuesday Night and other files like control file,datafile etc of Sunday .
    1)Is it possible to recover database till tuesday if yes HOW to use archive log file.
    (See SCN no of control file and datafiles is same ,if we use RECOVER DATABASE command oracle shows that media recovery is not requide.)
    we don't have current control file we had lost in media crash.

    Dear friend
    In this scenario
    you lost the contorl file

    Please note that when you use this command, you are doing nothing to the actual files on the OS. You are simply changing the db's knowledge of them, as stored in the control file.

  • Create database fails with error ORA-01505: error in adding log files

    hi all,

    sorry to revive this thread but i have one more issue with this. I created a database with DBCA insetead of CREATE DATABASE command and selected option for Fast Recovery Area space. This automatically set initialization parameter db_recovery_file_dest and db_recovery_file_dest_size, but did not create a OMF redo log group, but instead created three redo log groups with 1 member each.
    select * from v$logfile returns:
    1          ONLINE     /u01/app/oracle/oradata/testdb2/redo01.log     NO
    2          ONLINE     /u01/app/oracle/oradata/testdb2/redo02.log     NO
    3          ONLINE     /u01/app/oracle/oradata/testdb2/redo03.log     NO
    Any idea why if creating a database with create database command and specifying db_recovery_file_dest creates an OMF redo log group and with DBCA it doesn't?

  • Moving ORACLE_HOME , Datafiles, controlfiles,redo log file locations

    Version: 10.2.0.1.0
    One of our test DB's software location(ORACLE_HOME) was wrongly installed in /home/oracle. We have been using this for an year now. Now we are thinking of moving the ORACLE_HOME to a new location /u02. Because of another disk maintenance activity, we have to move all datafiles , redo log files, control files, tempfiles to a different location as well.
    This database is not in ARCHIVELOG mode(luckily).
    If i do a fresh installation of 10.2.0.1.0 in /u02, i cannot use the old installation's system01.dbf, sysaux01.dbf,undotbs01.dbf files for this fresh installation. Right?
    How do i go about doing this whole move thing?

    This database is not in ARCHIVELOG mode(luckily).
    Why?

    No.
    Issue ALTER DATABASE BACKUP CONTROLFILE TO TRACE. Then Shutdown the database. Copy all the files including the trace generated. Change the control_files parameter from init<SID>.ora file. Copy this to new home. Also tailor the backup trace file for change in location of logfiles,datafiles. Then
    $export ORACLE_SID=<SID>
    $sqlplus /nolog
    SQL>conn sys as sysdba
    password:<Enter>
    SQL>startup nomount pfile=NEW_HOME/dbs/init<SID>.ora
    SQL>@location_of_trace_file_generated/tracefilename.trc
    Add temporary tablespace and make it default temporary tablespace for the database.
    Your database will be up and running.

    Hello Subbu,
    > I have taken backup yesterday monrning in Archive log mode but have lost all the archive log files.
    You mean you have taken an online backup and lost all your archive log files after that online backup?
    SQL> alter database open resetlogs;
    Error: ORA-01113: file 1 needs media recovery
    ORA-01110: data file 1: 'E:\oracle\'<SID>\sapdata1\SYSTEM_1\SYSTEM.DATA1'
    SQL> recover database using backup controlfile until cancel;
    ORA-00279 : change 26627919 generated at DATE TIMEneeded for thread 1
    ORA-00289 : Suggestion E:\ORACLE\<SID>\ORAARCH\<SID>ARCHARC03020_0683715008.001
    ORA-00280: change 266277189 for thread 1 is in sequence #3020
    To perform a recovery with an online backup you will need all archive log files until the end of the online backup. If you have lost them you are not able to recover (or open) your database in a consistent state.
    So the only suggestion we can do is:
    You need the archive log files that were created during the online backup to perform an incomplete recovery ... if they are gone you can not restore your database.
    Regards
    Stefan

  • ORA- errors in alert log file

    I wanted to know when the ORA- errors are reported into the alert.log file?
    And which tye of errors are reported into it?
    And if i wanted to log all the ORA-errors in the alert log then is there any setting for that?

    You can find the type of errors reported in the link above.
    Also, you maynot like to log ORA-00942: table or view does not exist, ORA-00904: : invalid identifier type of errors in alert.log - right? You may want to research at setting up events for generating trace files on specific error numbers you are looking at. That might resolve your problem - hth.

    I just google with "ORA-44003: invalid SQL name" and found below link:
    http://www.oracle-base.com/articles/10g/dbms_assert_10gR2.php
    SIMPLE_SQL_NAME
    The SIMPLE_SQL_NAME function checks the input string conforms to the basic characteristics of a simple SQL name:
    The first character of the name is alphabetic.
    The name only contains alphanumeric characters or the "_", "$", "#"
    Quoted names must be enclosed by double quotes and may contain any characters, including quotes provided they are represented by two quotes in a row ("").
    The function ignores leading and trailing white spaces are ignored
    The length of the input string is not validated.
