ORA-01595 just after Oracle startup
Hi there
I'm trying to find explanation on these errors because they occurred just after Database open and ready !
ORA-01595: error freeing extent (2) of rollback segment (1))
ORA-01594: attempt to wrap into rollback segment (1) extent (2) which is being freed
Platform: Oracle 9.2.0.6 / AIX 5.3
Any ideas are welcome
Regards
Den
Oracle metalink Note:280151.1
Applies to:
Oracle Server - Enterprise Edition - Version: 9.2.0.1 to 9.2.0.6
This problem can occur on any platform.
Symptoms
The following errors are logged to alert.log:
ORA-01595: error freeing extent (2) of rollback segment (10))
ORA-01594: attempt to wrap into rollback segment (10) extent (2) which is being freed
Automatic Undo Management is enabled.
Cause
The error is signaled because smon is shrinking a rollback segment and this fails because we need an extent to store some rollback information. This is a failure message for the shrinking. Subsequently smon would succeed in doing that.
Solution
Ignore these error messages.
Normally adding more undo space should solve the problem.
This error message logging is fixed in 10g.

MSI P45-8D problem: reboot after loading startup services (windows seven 64bit)
hi guys!
I decided (buying a cooler master elite 360) to keep my Memory Lover (whit ddr3/ich10r, pci-ex 2.0), which is actually the 'best purchase for me (rather than a G41 mATX) .
But then, after I had solved the problem of overheating in the pci-ex, and I put the board in its box for weeks, now has a new problem:
Continuous blocks & reboots just after loading startup services windows seven!
The setup is this:
Windows Seven 64bit
MOBO MSI Memory Lover
CPU Xeon L3110
VGA MSI Radeon HD5450 1gb ddr2 fanless
DDR3 1333 4GB
PSU Tacens Radix V mATX 35Watt Velociraptor + Caviar Green
DVD burner (sata)
Esi pci-ex sound card connect module
Creative Xtreme Gamer (disconnected for now)
I have many ram models that I can put in:
kingston lovo 4gb 1333
4g-skill eco 4gb 1333
adata green 4gb 1333
corsairs white 8gb 1600
All memories can work undervolt at 1.35volt, but-of course-I keep them in standard 1.5Volt for more stability
I also tried a single 2gb stick at a time, but nothing has changed
when the system reboots (I infer) windows finished loading all the startup services (including antivirus, network drivers, audio drivers, etc. ..). and I can say with near certainty, that the last major service that is loaded, is the catalyst control center ...
I suspect an incompatibility with Memory Lover & the Video Card's ATI driver ..
I also tried to uninstall and clean with driver sweeper, but the problem remains ..
Besides this I also have a problem with the temperature of the processor xeon l3110 (45watt tdp)
cpu heatsink as I have a Arctic Freezer LP 11 (Capacity Cooling 100W).
with thermal compound pre-installed I had 60/70 degrees recorded.
I changed the thermal compound with the famous Prolimatech pk-1 and now I measure 80/90 degrees ...(and I've changed a lot of thermal compound that I put with my eyes closed)
now, this is not possible because:
-I know the processor, I kept in daily use at 3Ghz with a noctua nh-U9B se2, and in summer never exceeded 40 degrees (d 'winter was about 30 degrees)
- Either with the Scythe kama thermo, that with my finger, the heatpipes of the Freezer 11 LP, the Mosfet, the NB & SB are all cold .. the 5450 is 40 degrees or so, but it is fanless, and its temperature is in its normal ..
What can you tell me of my two problems:
- Continuous reboots after loading windows seven
- High temperature cpu (probably not real)
I remind you that a few months ago the team & Memory Lover Xeon L3110 worked perfectly.
The PSU is a new 350Watt Tacens Radix V mATX ... the system at idle consumes 70/80 watts (measured at the wall) ... I think it Is not a problem of the little power supply for the needs of my system ..
and anyway I can try to use an old Enermax 450watt Liberty, which I keep for emergencies..
thanks
maxguys,
I solved the problem!
the sink was installed wrong, and did not touch on the processor!!!
the problem was the mosfets around the cpu that make thickness in height ..
the thermal paste was put well and ... still immaculate!
processor took about 20 (or more) of restarts and very high working temperatures!
it rocks!!
I can now say that the 'AC Freezer 11 LP is sensational!
The Xeon L3110 (with EIST, C1E & Acpi active together, That downclok it) works now to 23-25 degrees!!
I have installed the ddr3 kingston 4gb Lovo 1333 + 8GB Corsair 1600 1.35Vram white.
(with 12GB, I can easily do a large Ramdisk for temporary files).
I installed hd5450 driver manually, but still the catalyst control center does not appear at startup
here is the screen of the situation:
finally...but how did I doubt the quality of this MSI board? -
Photoshop CCunexpectedly just after startup. Other Creative cloud applications starts normally. I am running Windows 7 64 bit, GForce GTX670. Any sugggestions?
I've tried re installing photoshop, tablet drivers, adobe cloude, and graphic drivers. I get no error messages and when I open a file in photoshop, i can see the picture for about 3 seconds, before the program terminates, I can't find any start up log either.ava
If anyone have any suggestions to what I can do, I would gratly appriciate it.

I have a slow startup or login, with numerious spinning wheels. Sometimes after a long ti,e I can sign into the computer and sometimes it just fails to startup or login. I have a MacBookPro OS X 10.7.5 from 2011. It became more serious recently as I think I might have let my battery run out I also tried to download the operating system to reinstall it but it allways stops around 1.4 GB out of 1.7 then the whell starts again.
Keep the MBP attached to the power adapter.
First try SMC and PRAM resets:
http://support.apple.com/kb/ht3964
http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1379
Then try to boot the MBP in recovery (OPTION key down) and select the recover partition. Select Disk Utility>First Aid and verify and repair the HDD.

FIrefox repeatedly crashes at startup or just after opening a webpage
Firefox repeatedly crashes on startup or just after opening a new page, I've tried downgrading my browser to FF 18 & the problem still occurs. Firefox won't even run properly in safe mode. I have included the latest crash report: bp-d8715a6c-6208-4420-8df4-cae752130307
Hi Spirax, if your new profile works after a restart or two, you may want to start back up in your old profile and use the Reset feature. This is a lot easier than manually copying data to your new profile, although that is another option.
Some reading for you:

Indesign CC keeps hanging just after Startup... Can someone help?
Indesign CC keeps hanging just after I open a file/start a new document/look at it. Sometimes it's during open, sometimes it's before I even get to the open a file dialog box. I ended up forcing a crash with Activity Monitor so I could get a crash report. If someone could help me, it would be greatly appreciated.
Running Mavericks on a Macbook Pro.
Trashed the prefs, cache, saved application state, etc.
Crash Report is here: http://pastebin.com/JYCs0A0n
Thanks,
ArielleIt didn't earlier, but I've done a re-install since then. I can try again.
Really, in the short term at least, I just need to pull text from a single, multi-page document. I have it as an .indd and an .idml. Is there another way to grab the text? I tried incopy, but it also crashed on me, freshly installed.
Of course in the long run I still need indesign, but for today, I really just need the text from this doc. -
Here's a solution to Oracle Startup / Shutdown on RH6
I had a hard time getting Red Hat 6.0 to startup and shutdown
Oracle properly. Red Hat's slick rc scripts look cool, but hide
the problem unless you do some serious reading.
This script still isn't perfect, mainly because it can't
shutdown if oracle users are still logged in. This is a problem
with the dbshut scripts. I try to avoid hacking Oracle's bin
directory, but if you really want to go down, change the
shutdown lines to shutdown immediate. Oracle, please provide an
option to dbshut to fix this! :-)
My changes to the book version fix the following:
1. It creates a file /var/log/dbora to log the startup output to
give you some visibility after the fact.
2. Creating the /var/lock/subsys/dbora file after startup makes
the shutdown work. Otherwise rc won't even try. Deleting it
makes changes between run levels work right.
3. The startup is NOT backgrounded so that if you are watching
it boot you can at least gauge the time it takes before the
startup.
4. It starts the listener too.
5. It checks the log file for startup errors and makes the
screen say FAILED in red if it sees any errors.
5. It allows dbshut some time to finish before unmounting. My
dual xenon machine goes down do fast dbshut wouldn't finish
downing both of my sids.
# dbora -start/stop Oracle

Note that the links prescribed by the book are also incorrect.
Linux's rc levels do NOT run sequentially. Therefore, you need a
start and stop on the same level. If you want to save some RAM
on the serve by not running X, you'll want level 4 scripts and
level 5 scripts. So, Create all these links (as ROOT).
ln -s /etc/rc.d/init.d/dbora /etc/rc.d/rc4.d/K10dbora
ln -s /etc/rc.d/init.d/dbora /etc/rc.d/rc4.d/S99dbora

ln -s /etc/rc.d/init.d/dbora /etc/rc.d/rc5.d/S99dbora
To be really safe also create these links. This way there is no
escaping a proper oracle shutdown.
ln -s /etc/rc.d/init.d/dbora /etc/rc.d/rc0.d/K10dbora
ln -s /etc/rc.d/init.d/dbora /etc/rc.d/rc1.d/K10dbora

ln -s /etc/rc.d/init.d/dbora /etc/rc.d/rc6.d/K10dbora
Have fun!
nullIt isn't necessary to create the symlinks for the rc scripts
manually--that's what the "chkconfig" command is for.

Is there a way to stop a query just after the cursor/plan is produced by CBO?
Following suggestions of Kerry Osborne’s Oracle Blog » Blog Archive » Explain Plan Lies – Kerry Osborn…
on the lies of "Explain plan" (and of "set autotrace on" too) I'd like to try to stop a query/DML before actually it starts, just after the plan was produced and sql_id assigned.
Is there any CLEAN way (other than trying CTRL-C) to do that?
Thanks
PaoloHi
PaolFili wrote:
Thanks rp.
I think my question is a little dofferent, but your reply give me an idea.(which has clear disadvantages , but can do the work).
The problem is obtain in Lybrary Cache a plan,a SLQ_ID,PLAN_HASH for a query ( i.e. a 10days running query) that I cannot start-up.
So my (suggested from your reply) idea is:
1) to LOCK EXCLUSIVE (a table level) , **if it's possible** every table accessed in the query ( Yes, it can be really expansive in some production environment, but sometimes can be necessary ..)
using : LOCK TABLE table IN EXCLUSIVE MODE
for each table accessed from query
2) Startup the query that will be suspended form the lock on tables accessed + kill the sid,serial#,@Inst_id for the query.
3) UNLOCK tables from EXCLUSIVE using "ROLLBACK" in the session where LOCK TABLE.... was send.(to remake tables to work for other queries)
Any other ideas?
Thanks
Paolo
you're planning on using locks to stop a query and you think in order to do so you need exclusive locks on every table accessed in the query? And you are prepared to do that on a production system?
And all of this is needed to troubleshoot a query that was running for 10 days -- i.e. a query that was available for all kinds of diagnostics during 10 days?
Sorry, I think it wasn't a good idea for you to read that Osborne's blog post -- you should've started with more basic things. Way more basic.

ORA-12505 error with oracle 11.2.0.2 RAC Grid
Hi,
We have just installed Oracle 11.2.0.2 with oracle clusterware. Every thing went well during the installation, How ever after install we can not connect to the RAC instance from clients, through jdbc OR oracle sql developer.
We get following error:
ORA-12505, TNS:listener does not currently know of SID given in connect descriptor.
After the installation we created service (myrac) through OEM Cluster Managed Database Services tab. and We are using service name as following:
jdbc:oracle:thin:@orap-cluster.mydomain.com:1521:myrac
Here below is Service TNS string:
myrac = (DESCRIPTION = (ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = TCP)(HOST = orap-cluster.mydomain.com)(PORT = 1521))(LOAD_BALANCE = YES)(CONNECT_DATA = (SERVER = DEDICATED)(SERVICE_NAME = myrac)))
Any help..??
CheersHI,
to clarify:
if you try with
<SERVER>:<PORT>:<SID> you are accessing the server with a database SID, whereas
<SERVER>:<PORT>/<SERVICE> will access a service.
The SCAN Listener only know of services, and not of database SIDs.
This is the reason you should always create separate services for your RAC databases, since only they are registered. If you connect via. a service the listener will forward you to (one of) the corresponding instances servicing the service.
Database SIDs are only known to the local listener on the node (not to the SCAN listener). And SIDs actually should not be used anymore.
However if you still need to access the SID you can use the virtual hostname of the server resp. the VIP address of the server in the connection and this will work:
<VIP>:<PORT>:<SID>
Note the SID of a RAC database is either myrac1 or myrac_1 (depending on administrator or policy managed database).
I still would recommend using services and not SIDs.
Furthermore the SCAN can only be resolved correctly by 11.2 clients.
Any pre 11.2 client should use an address_list containing the SCAN VIPs:
PRE112 =
(DESCRIPTION =
(LOAD_BALANCE=ON)
(ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = TCP)(HOST = 192.168.1.41)(PORT = 1521))
(ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = TCP)(HOST = 192.168.1.42)(PORT = 1521))
(ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = TCP)(HOST = 192.168.1.43)(PORT = 1521))
(CONNECT_DATA =
(SERVER = DEDICATED)
(SERVICE_NAME = pre112)
If a application server does not understand / then try using the TNSNAMES entry directly:
jdbc:oracle:thin:@(DESCRIPTION = (LOAD_BALANCE=ON)(ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = TCP)(HOST = 192.168.1.41)(PORT = 1521))(ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = TCP)(HOST = 192.168.1.42)(PORT = 1521))(ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = TCP)(HOST = 192.168.1.43)(PORT = 1521))(CONNECT_DATA = (SERVER = DEDICATED)(SERVICE_NAME = pre112)))
Hope that helps

HA Oracle startup/shutdown question
Environment:
2 Sunfire V890's running solaris 2.9 and SC3.1U4
Hello All,
I am having a problem with oracle startup and shutdown in my cluster. In order to get oracle to startup after a failover, shutdown what have you, I need to implement the following procedure as a pre/post oracle startup operation/script. Can anyone tell me if there is a place or hook in the HAOracle agent where I can add my own operation? I would rather avoid having to write a GDS agent in order to do this, if it is at all possilble.
Thanks,
George Cebulka
PS
Please Note: (This is a DBA thing, not mine!)
************** Begin *********************
After a failover or startup we need following to avoid the authentication error
1. remove the sqlnet.ora soft link from $ORACLE_HOME/network/admin
1. rm /global/oracle/oracledb/oraclev10201/network/admin/sqlnet.ora
2. Create a new soft link to sqlnet.ora in $ORACLE_HOME/network/admin as following
1. ln s /global/pitt/dba/network/net8/sqlnet.ora /global/oracle/oracledb/oraclev10201/network/admin/sqlnet.ora
3. startup the database and listeners (using cluster database).
4. Now database is up and running and we need to turn on radius authentication for which we need this post stuff
5. Remove the sqlnet.ora link
1. rm /global/oracle/oracledb/oraclev10201/network/admin/sqlnet.ora
6. Create a new soft link to replace sqlnet.ora with radius sqlnet.ora
1. ln s /global/pitt/dba/network/net8/sqlnet.ora.radius /global/oracle/oracledb/oraclev10201/network/admin/sqlnet.ora
*************** End ******************You could also try the following:
Create two GDS agents, where you need to include the steps to disable the pmf action script, which I describe in a blog at
http://blogs.sun.com/TF/entry/disabling_pmf_action_script_with .
This is needed since your scripts will not leave a process running for PMF.
1. GDS resource (for this example I call it ora-prestart-rs):
Start_command: It will do the steps to implement the original sqlnet.ora file + the steps from the blog
Probe_command: /bin/true
Stop_command: not needed
2. GDS resource (for this example I call it ora-poststart-rs):
Start_command: It will do the steps to setup the link for the radius sqlnet.ora file + the steps from the blog
Probe_command: /bin/true
Stop_command: It will do the steps to re-implement the original sqlnet.ora file
Then you create the following resource dependencies (here I assume the name for the SUNW.oracle_server resource is ora-rs):
scrgadm -c -j ora-rs -y Resource_dependencies=ora-prestart-rs
scrgadm -c -j ora-poststart-rs -y Resource_dependencies=server-dwdd-rs
Maybe you need to setup the same dependencies to include the SUNW.oracle_listerner resource. You did not mention which of those is facing problems.
Of course, I never tried this. But this would enable you to use the HA Oracle agent unchanged.
Greets
Thorsten
PS: I forgot to also mention that you need to set the Restart_type extension property for the SUNW.oracle_server resource to RESOURCE_GROUP_RESTART:
scrgadm -c -j ora-rs -y Restart_type=RESOURCE_GROUP_RESTART
That way a triggered restart by ora-rs will allways force the RG to go through stop/start - and only then the link will get set back to the sqlnet.ora the SUNW.oracle_server needs to work correctly.
Note again - this is theory and needs proper testing.

Oracle startup/shutdown triggers
Hi,
I have a scenerion appreciated the inputs/suggestions.
We have 750 db's from oracle 8i to 11g .
i will take one db as test db and i will create a table in this db and from all db's a trigger has to fire whenever database is down or up and update this test table in test db.
may be test table structure contains hostname, db name , db status(1 for down, 0 for up), timestamp
Thanks in advance .
PrakashHi thanks for all the inputs.
We use OEM grid still we want this project to execute.
The steps we need to do is .
1. Determine how/if we can create a system-level trigger on all of our Oracle databases (we currently have versions as low as 8.1.7 and up to 11.2).
2. The trigger will update a remote table before a shutdown or after a startup.
3. The remote database (which we will use for testing) is test.
4. The table to be updated is test.DB_STATUS
SQL> desc p201710.db_status
Name Null? Type
SERVER_NAME VARCHAR2(50)
DB_NAME VARCHAR2(50)
DB_STATUS CHAR(1) '1' = down, '0' = up
STATUS_TS DATE
5. Create a dynamic link at the time the trigger fires to connect to this database. Do not use a TNS alias in the connector.
6. Query the table first to see if a record already exists with that servername+dbname combination.
7. If not, add a record and record the status and the sysdate. If so, just update that record. (We do not want more than 1 record for each database.)
8. Determine risks involved with this activity and devise a strategy to mitigate them.
apprecited the inputs.
Thanks
Prakash

Hidden parameters appears after Oracle 11gR2 upgrade
Platform: HP-UX B.11.31 U ia64
Upgrading from: Oracle Database 11g Enterprise Edition Release 11.1.0.7.0 - 64bit Production
Upgrading to : Oracle Database 11g Enterprise Edition Release 11.2.0.3.0 - 64bit Production
Issue : There are around 130 hidden parameter appear after Oracle 11gR2 upgrade.
Before upgrade I have commented the hidden parameters on the PFILE. PFILE only to start the database for the Oracle 11gR2 upgrade.
Before upgrade, checking the hidden parameter:

I am using client parameter file ( PFILE ) commented the hidden parameters highlighted above.
However after successful upgrade to 11gR2, creating SPFILE from the PFILE ( commented the hidden parameters) now i am getting 132 hidden parameters.
SQL> select count(1) from sys.V$PARAMETER where name like '\_%' escape '\';

usecolumn_stats_for_functionI just came across a similar case: 1 (just one) of our (RAC-) databases has 130-something underscore-parameters set to non-default values.
version is still 11.1.0.7 (e.g. not 11gR2).
All of those hidden parameters seem to be CBO related (list on request).
Weird is: Only one of our (very similar, supposedly same-config) databases have these hidden parameters set.
Colleagues justly wonder: Who, When, What has caused these parameters to be expliclty set for this one system?
Note: we do not have the complete history of this system documented (systems have been managed by 3 different parties already).
It is quite possible they came in with some patch or upgrade (catupgr?) somewhere between 11.1.0.1 and 11.1.0.7, but a confirmation would be nice.
Information welcome.

Running Oracle startup or shutdown bat file from Java code
I have two bat files for the startup and shutdown of Oracle instance which works fine from the command prompt. But my requirement is to run it through a Java program. Please reply with full Java code. Also mention how I would get the status of the bat files that it is successfully executed or not and if not what is the error.
Your program is working fine, but there is another problem. What's happening now is I have to open the Login screen after the startup of oracle server is complete, but the next line of my program after Runtime.exec is the LoginScreen.show which immediately shows the login screen after executing Runtime.exec and when I am giving the login name and password and press enter, it shows Oracle not available exception, because the startup process is still in progress. I want to stop the execution of my next line of code until and unless my process of Oracle startup is complete.

Premiere Pro & After Effects close after a few seconds after the startup?
Hi,
I bought Creative Cloud yesterday and everything installed just fine. I haven't tried all Apps yet, but so far Premiere Pro and After Effects close after a few seconds after the startup. There is no dialogue or error window of any kind, the programs just shut down automatically.
The weird thing is that I had the trial before, but also uninstalled it, but then the apps worked just fine.
I searched the forum but couldn't find anyone with the exact same issue. I hope someone can help me out.
My notebook specs:
Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit
Intel Core i7-3610QM
CPU 2.30 GHz
RAM 6 GB
Graphics card: nVidia Geforce GT 630M - 2 GB>assigning my nVidia card as the main driver for Premiere Pro (instead of the standard card)
You MAY need to turn off the onboard graphics "chip" in BIOS

ORA-28500: connection from ORACLE to a non-Oracle system returned this message: ORA-02063: preceding line from OWB_75
Scenario:
I am having difficulty getting ODBC connection between Oracle OWB app with an 11gR2 DB (running on a VirtualBox Linux) and SQL Server 2008 running directly on the host. (Windows 8)
I am trying to take a SQL Server 2008 feed into Oracle Ware house Builder, and think(!) I have read everything and configured it in accordance (but I presume not given 3 days of failed attempts to fix it). I have also read several blogs, hence there might be a few more settings in the configuration files than the formal documentation says, but these have come from blogs that have “Solved” problems for other similar situations.
The environments:
HOST:
Name: RESOLVEIT-PC
IP: 192.168.1.80
Windows 8 (64bit) , with system DSN ODBC connection ACME_POS created with 32 bit ODBC set up (This setting still shows up fine in the 64 bit ODBC).

I am really stuck now and going round in circles and can’t see the wood for trees! Can anyone please help?!!
Many Thanks.
Rafe.Let us rewrite your ODBC DSN a little bit... Your current odbc.ini looks like:
[ACME_POS]
Driver = FreeTDS
Description = ODBC Connection via FreeTDS
Trace = 1
Servername = 192.168.1.80
Database = dbo
Let us change it a little bit so that we only need one config file - no odbcinst.ini nor freetds.conf file anymore:
[ACME_POS]
Driver =/usr/local/lib/libtdsodbc.so
Server = 192.168.1.80
Database
= dbo #### I have some doubts that you have a SQL Server database called dbo - one database that always exists is master - so as a test use master here or get the real database name of the SQL Server database you want to connect
Port = 60801 ## make sure it really is the correct port - best would be to check on the SQL server and then try telnet <ip> <port> if you can connect to the SQL server
TDS_Version = 8.0
QuotedId=YES
Especially the last 2 parameters are mandatory. TDS_Version specifies the TDS Version you have to use to connect to the SQL Server and QuotedID is required for DG4ODBC as it surrounds objevt names by double quotes.
What happens now when you try to connect with for example isql - the ODBC test utility shipped with the ODBC Driver manager?
In addition, could you please do me another favour and check the word size of DG4ODBC and the ODBC Driver Manager as well as the ODBC Driver - just execute:
file /u01/app/oracle/product/11.2.0/dbhome_1/bin/dg4odbc
file /usr/local/lib/libtdsodbc.so
file < the patch to your libodbc.so library>/libodbc.so
and post the output.
