ORA-01613: thread 2 only has 1 logs - at least 2 logs required to enable

Hello,
I have just ran through the final stage (db creation using dbca) of the RAC install on redhat AS 2.1.
At the end i was informed
"ORA-01613: thread 2 only has 1 logs - at least 2 logs required to enable"
I gave heard that to create the log for that thread can be created using
alter database add logfile thread 2......
but i am not very familiar with oracle, so any suggestions/comments would be greatly appreciated.
When i run
select inst_id, instance_number inst_no, instance_name inst_name, parallel, status, database_status db_status, active_state state, host_name host FROM gv$instance;
it tells me:
INST_ID INST_NO INST_NAME PAR STATUS DB_STATUS
STATE HOST
1 1 orcl1 YES OPEN ACTIVE
NORMAL rac2.ractest.com
-- it does not show the rac1 node. I think it should be just something like creating a new redo log for thread 2 and mounting the instance on rac1, is that correct? what are the steps i should need to fix this?
any help HUGELY appreciated,
Ireland.

  • ORA-00313: open failed for members of log group 2 of thread 1

    We have a 4 node 32bit linux RAC (Dell/EMC) system running 9.2.0.4. It is very stable but over the past couple of months we've encountered a few ORA-00313 errors, while the system is running.
    No patterns. Different loads, times of day, nodes.
    The redo can't be opened, the node crashes, we look for errors, can't find any and then restart. The file is there and the permissions are fine. No other processes are accessing the files. No other Db errors. No O/S, SAN, Fiber, errors.
    All the research I've done shows that this is an error you'd only get on startup.
    We're going to log a TAR, but I can't believe we're the only ones to ever see this occur.
    [directory and server names have been modified to protect the system. Don't get hung up on typos or possible file system config problems too much - this system has been and is running now]

    The only thing I can still think of is file permissions.
    If the system has recently been restored or Redo Log recreated, check the file permissions and ensure that Oracle has Read and Write Access to the Directory and Files.
    At least the file permissions on the directory and files should look something like this example
    $ls -l /sampledb/redo0/oradata/sampdb/
    drwxr-xr-x oracle oinstall 4096 19 May 17:46 redo
    $ls -l /sampledb/redo0/oradata/sampdb/redo/

  • ORA-00313: open failed for members of log group 1 of thread 1

    Hi
    I'm restoring a database on a different host. I have the backups, from which I want to restore the database. I made the corresponding changes in the initSID.ora file and started the script to do the restore.These are the steps I followed:
    connect target=/
    run{
    startup nomount;
    allocate channel c1 type disk;
    allocate channel c2 type disk;
    allocate channel c3 type disk;
    allocate channel c4 type disk;
    restore controlfile from '/tmp_backups/rman/lev0_open_cf_SID_2826_1';
    alter database mount;
    set newname for all datafiles
    restore database;
    set until logseq = 29317 thread = 1;
    switch datafile all;
    recover database;
    alter database open resetlogs;
    One mistake I made here is that logseq should have been last seq+1, which I did not do. I have it as last seq.
    Restore of datafiles and switching of datafiles was fine. But I get error for redo log files.
    ORA-00313: open failed for members of log group 1 of thread 1
    ORA-00312: online log 1 thread 1: '/u13/oradata/SID/redo02a.log'
    ORA-27037: unable to obtain file status
    SVR4 Error: 2: No such file or directory
    Additional information: 3
    Why is it looking for at the old path yet?
    I'm not sure what I missed and how to proceed. Please help.
    Thanks,
    Mamata

    I do believe that set newname for all datafiles only means actual datafiles and no redo logs. So with open resetlogs, Oracle tries to create new redo logfiles where the backup controlfiles says they are.
    As with creating a auxilliary database in another filesystem, we use DB_NAME_FILE_CONVERT and LOG_FILE_NAME_CONVERT.
    I am not sure if it is possible to type "set newname for all datafiles" and expect also the redo logfiles to change location.
    You might try to set these two parameters and see if it works.
    good luck.

  • My mum wants to add Cd's onto her itunes but she only has itunes on her ipad and I have my itunes on my laptop, if i sign out and she signs in will her itunes come up and will my itunes be the same when i log back in?

    So my mum has an ipad and iphone and she wants to connect it to a laptop so she can add Cd's to her itunes and then to her ipad and phone But she doesnt want my itunes as she has bought stuff on her account So if I lgged out of m itunes on my computer will she be able to log in and add Cd's that way? ALso will my itunes be okay afterwards?

    Welcome to the Apple Community.
    iTunes won't let you log into another account and use features such as automatic downloads, iTunes Match etc etc unless the account you are currently logged into has been logged in for at least 90 days. DON'T EVEN TRY IT.
    Instead create a new user account for her on your computer and set up iTunes there for her, avoid using automatic downloads etc

  • Thread 1 cannot allocate new log - Checkpoint not complete caused by small

    Hello, one of my customers databases (setup by the customer) is running in archivelog mode. We find every day in the archivelog more than 10x the error "...cannot allocate new log - Checkpoint not complete "
    The system has theese parameters:
    select group#,members,bytes from v$log;
    GROUP# MEMBERS BYTES
    1 2 8388608
    2 2 8388608
    3 2 8388608
    4 2 8388608
    5 2 8388608
    6 2 8388608
    7 2 8388608
    8 2 8388608
    9 2 8388608
    10 2 8388608
    I asked the formder admin, why the redologs has only 8mb size. The answer was: "To find out, when there was big activity in the database. The count of archivelogs are bigger if you has small redologs. If you use some 250m redologs, we cannot see when tha database has big load. But this is important in case of recovery to recover the database to the point in time before the big load was has taken place." ... ???
    Okay, if the customer wants to have 8 MB redologs ... I don´t care. But how can i prevent now the error message? The only way for me is to setup more redolog groups. But it would be very confusing to have 50 or 70 groups of redologs.
    What can I do else to prevent the error?

    what is the log frequency?
    logfile size?
    can you check fast_start_mttr_target as well
    check the following description:
    Sometimes, you can see in your alert.log file, the following corresponding
    messages:
    Thread 1 advanced to log sequence 248
    Current log# 2 seq# 248 mem# 0: /prod1/oradata/logs/redologs02.log
    Thread 1 cannot allocate new log, sequence 249
    Checkpoint not complete
    This message indicates that Oracle wants to reuse a redo log file, but
    the current checkpoint position is still in that log. In this case, Oracle must
    wait until the checkpoint position passes that log. Because the
    incremental checkpoint target never lags the current log tail by more than 90%
    of the smallest log file size, this situation may be encountered if DBWR writes
    too slowly, or if a log switch happens before the log is completely full,
    or if log file sizes are too small.
    When the database waits on checkpoints,redo generation is stopped until the
    log switch is done.

  • Thread 1 cannot allocate new log, sequence 5720 Checkpoint not completed

    Hi,
    I can see a lot of messages like that:
    Thread 1 cannot allocate new log, sequence 5720
    Checkpoint not complete
    What is the problem?? I think is about permissions.
    What permissions do i need to give to log_archive_dest directory and redo log file directory??
    Is the only thing that i can see that coulb be the problem because my HP-UX change the permissions of some directories sometimes and the SYS ADMIN don´t know how and why.
    I can do:
    SQL> alter system switch logfile;
    System altered.
    SQL> alter system checkpoint;
    System altered.
    Tks,
    Paulo.

    Thread 1 cannot allocate new log, sequence 5720
    Checkpoint not complete
    What is the problem?Lgwr wants to switch to and reuse the "tail" redo group, but since checkpointing for that group is not yet completed, lgwr has to wait until all data, that the redo protects, has been written down to datafiles. This stops (temporarily) writing of redo from buffer to log files and you get that message in the alert.log.
    How many redo log groups and what is their size?

    ORA-00312: online log 4 thread 1: '/oradata/orcl/temp/redo04.log'
    I have only one member in each redolog group.
    Have I any chance to recover database?

    Recreating a controlfile does not help in case of a corrupt logfile. Issue
    'select group#,status,archived,sequence#,first_change# from v$log;' to get the status of the corrupted logfile. If 'status' = INACTIVE you are lucky, you can clear the group:
    alter database clear <unarchived> logfile group n; (use 'unarchived' when 'archived' shows 'NO') .
    If 'status' = ACTIVE try 'alter database checkpoint;', if this command executes successfully, logfile gets status INACTIVE and again you can clear the logfile, if not you have to handle the logfile as CURRENT.
    If 'status' = CURRENT you must do an incomplete recovery up to the latest usable SCN:
    restore database until scn <first_change#_of_current_logfile>;
    recover database until scn <first_change#_of_current_logfile>;
    alter database open resetlogs;

  • ORA-01403: no data found in alert.log

    Dear All,
    I am getting ORA-01403: no data found in alert.log.Could you pls help me out what could be reasons behind it..Due to this i m getting loads of alerts.Pls suggest.
    Thanks

    ORA-01403 No Data Found
    Typically, an ORA-01403 error occurs when an apply process tries to update an existing row and the OLD_VALUES in the row LCR do not match the current values at the destination database.
    Typically, one of the following conditions causes this error:
    Supplemental logging is not specified for columns that require supplemental logging at the source database. In this case, LCRs from the source database might not contain values for key columns. You can use a DML handler to modify the LCR so that it contains the necessary supplemental data. See "Using a DML Handler to Correct Error Transactions". Also, specify the necessary supplemental logging at the source database to prevent future errors.
    There is a problem with the primary key in the table for which an LCR is applying a change. In this case, make sure the primary key is enabled by querying the DBA_CONSTRAINTS data dictionary view. If no primary key exists for the table, or if the target table has a different primary key than the source table, then specify substitute key columns using the SET_KEY_COLUMNS procedure in the DBMS_APPLY_ADM package. You also might encounter error ORA-23416 if a table being applied does not have a primary key. After you make these changes, you can reexecute the error transaction.
    The transaction being applied depends on another transaction which has not yet executed. For example, if a transaction tries to update an employee with an employee_id of 300, but the row for this employee has not yet been inserted into the employees table, then the update fails. In this case, execute the transaction on which the error transaction depends. Then, reexecute the error transaction.
    There is a data mismatch between a row LCR and the table for which the LCR is applying a change. Make sure row data in the table at the destination database matches the row data in the LCR. When you are checking for differences in the data, if there are any DATE columns in the shared table, then make sure your query shows the hours, minutes, and seconds. If there is a mismatch, then you can use a DML handler to modify an LCR so that it matches the table. See "Using a DML Handler to Correct Error Transactions".
    Alternatively, you can update the current values in the row so that the row LCR can be applied successfully. If changes to the row are captured by a capture process at the destination database, then you probably do not want to replicate this manual change to destination databases. In this case, complete the following steps:
    Set a tag in the session that corrects the row. Make sure you set the tag to a value that prevents the manual change from being replicated. For example, the tag can prevent the change from being captured by a capture process.
    EXEC DBMS_STREAMS.SET_TAG(tag => HEXTORAW('17'));
    In some environments, you might need to set the tag to a different value.
    Update the row in the table so that the data matches the old values in the LCR.
    Reexecute the error or reexecute all errors. To reexecute an error, run the EXECUTE_ERROR procedure in the DBMS_APPLY_ADM package, and specify the transaction identifier for the transaction that caused the error. For example:
    EXEC DBMS_APPLY_ADM.EXECUTE_ERROR(local_transaction_id => '5.4.312');
    Or, execute all errors for the apply process by running the EXECUTE_ALL_ERRORS procedure:
    EXEC DBMS_APPLY_ADM.EXECUTE_ALL_ERRORS(apply_name => 'APPLY');
    If you are going to make other changes in the current session that you want to replicate destination databases, then reset the tag for the session to an appropriate value, as in the following example:
    EXEC DBMS_STREAMS.SET_TAG(tag => NULL);
    In some environments, you might need to set the tag to a value other than NULL.

    Would like to find out how a Pages document might be opened by a recipient that only has a PC with Windows and Microsoft Office.  Is there a conversion program?

    Making changes to PDF file: Apple Support Communities
    Have just noticed this in a thread today.   The link from Klaus1's post may allow you to use PDF and work on it.   I haven't tried it but it may give you some extra ammunition.

  • So some moderator made my other thread read only

    I am getting crappy DSL service after 8 years of being able to steadily get 1.3 Mbps on my 1.5 service.  Now I am lucky to get 0.8 Mbps and not get disconnected 10 times a day and have to off/on my modem.  Here is what all I have tried:
    Called customer support 4 months ago and jumped thru all their hoops.  Restarted modem, removed/reinstalled cables, swapped ends of cables, changed out cables, virus scanned computer with mine, their, and then a different virus scanner of mine.  I'm now using Microsoft's virus protection and running Windows XP.  I also got a new modem to replace my 10 year old Westell, the new one is a Westell 7500, did not help switching modems.
    I've used a Netgear router for years but to make sure it was not a problem I've connected my PC directly to the Westell 7500, no difference.  I've unplugged all the phones in the house so that only the modem was connected, rebooted everything, no help.  Yes, every phone has a filter.
    Verizon customer service, from India it sounds like, always wants me to jump thru the same hoops on every call because all they know is to read from a script.  Today's call was pretty much my last straw with Verizon if I can't get some help.  They told me to call billing and request the 1.0 service because the 1.5 Mbps service that I've had at this location is not available at this location and that the slower service would solve my problems.  I posted my Transciever Statistics on the other thread, below is a ping test that I just ran.
