Does everybody know why I faced ORA-02231 when issue below command in oracle,

ORA: 00001 error when issued commit_form

I have a question about finalizing the changes when using commit_form.
There is a database trigger on the table which records all the changes update, insert, delete into an audit table. The actual sequence of actions going on in the form are
1. Update a row in a table (No explicit update stmt is issued as the block is a database block)
2. Key-Commit(issues commit_form)
3. Delete the same row which was previously updated (happens thru explicit delete stmt in the Post-Forms-Commit/Post-Database-Commit
4. forms_ddl(commit_form)
Actions 1 & 2 are working fine. Action 3 is throwing an error ORA: 00001. And if the trigger is disabled then the form is working fine.
I wanna know if the forms issues a commit_form, will it finalizes the changes in the database or will it waits for the post-forms-commit trigger to get completed and then finalizes the changes.
Can anyone help me with this?

Here is the help on Post-Database-Commit Trigger:
Fires once during the Post and Commit Transactions process, after the database commit occurs. Note that the Post-Forms-Commit trigger fires after inserts, updates, and deletes have been posted to the database, but before the transaction has been finalized by issuing the Commit.
I think you are fine at this point, as long as you use changed values in the WHERE clause of your DELETE statement.
ORA: 00001 is violation of UNIQUE CONSTRAINT, which really does not make any sense in context of DELETE statement, because you are not adding a new record but deleting one (Step 3).
With limited info I have here, I think that you are running into constraint issues on your audit table, because update and delete are happening almost at the same time, and you will be effectively getting two records in your audit table, that depending how UNIQUE constraints are setup on your audit table might cause the issue.
By the way it boggles my mind: why would you change and delete record from the table at the same time?

Ora 12154 error when trying to add a database to VS Server Explorer

Hi Everyone,
I get the Ora 12154 error when trying to add a database to VS Server Explorer.
How do I get around this problem.
The database service is running and I can connect to the database with pl/sql.
I can also tnsping the database and that is also ok.
Looks like a problem with the odp.net software.
I am running the 32 bit Oracle 11g on a Windows7 Home Premium 64 bit PC.
I am new to this stuff so please help me step by step.

I have a question related to this. After you told me about the //host:1521/database alias I tried it in a VB 2008 program and it worked and returned data. At least I know that it can be used in a VB program without issues. I just now need to be able to add a connection with the Server Explorer.

there are a lot of possibilities why this can be wrong. Look at Oracle Support for note 233223.1, "Checklist for Resolving CONNECT AS SYSDBA (INTERNAL) Issues". This gives links to notes which leads you to maybe the solution.
Possibilities are:
- you are root, which is not allowed. You should connect with the oracle user
- your user is not part of the dba group
- permissions on files
- and many more

ORA-00054 error when loading Oracle table using Data Services

Hello,
we are facing ORA-00054 error when loading Oracle table using BO Data services
(Oracle 10g database, BODS Xi 3.2 SP3)
Test Job performs
1- truncate table
2- load table (tested in standard and bulk load modes)
Scenario when issue happens is:
1- Run loading Job
2- Job end in error for any Oracle data base error
3- When re-running the same Job, Job fails with following error
ORA-00054: resource busy and acquire with NOWAIT specified
It seems after first failure, Oracle session for loading the table stays active and locks the table.
To be able to rerun the Job, we are forced need to kill Oracle session manually to be able to run the Job again.
Expected behaviour would be : on error rollback modifications made on table and BODS stops Oracle session in a clean way.
Can somebody tell me / or point me to any BODS best practice about Oracle error handling to prevent such case?

the ora-0054 can occure depending how the job failed before. If this occures you will need the DBA to release the lock on the table in question
Or
AL_Engine.exe on The server it creates the Lock. Need to Kill Them. Or stop it..

What's even stranger is that I took the SELECT statement

order by name;out of the procedure and ran it on the command line using the @pinp.world link, the SQL statement ran just fine. But when I tried to compile the above procedure with that exact same SQL statement with the exact same link I get the following string of errors.
ORA-04052: error occurred when looking up remote object [email protected]
ORA-00604: error occurred at recursive SQL level 1
ORA-02068: following severe error from PINP
ORA-03113: end-of-file on communication channelHow can the link work just fine in a regular SQL statement but then cause an error when its compiled in code that otherwise compile just fine when using any other link or even just a plain database. Does anyone have any suggestions?

OK Justin,
Here's the query by itself run in another database using the @pinp.world link and querying the dba_dependencies table in the pinp.world database. As you can see the query using this link works just fine returning the requested rows. I can't figure out why the compiler is having an issue with essentially this same query when I try to compile it in a cursor in TOAD. Also this is the database (dev1.world) that I'm trying to compile this Procedure in.
By the way I'm in an Oracle 9.2.0.6 database and TOAD v9.2.

I installed Oracle 8.05 on Linux successfully: was able to login
whith SQLPlus, start and stop the db whith svrmgrl etc.
During this install I chose WE8ISO8859P9 as the database
characterset when prompted.
After that I installed Oracle Application Server 3.02, and now
I'm getting the
ORA-12709: error while loading create database character set
message when I try to start up the database, and the database
won't mount.
Platform is RedHat Linux 5.2.
NLS_LANG set to different settings,
e.g. AMERICAN_AMERICA.WE8ISO8859P9
but without success.
Anyone any clue?

You can create the database with WE8DEC character set
and to use the WE8ISO8859P9 on the client or even on Linux.
The NLS_LANG setting doesn't effect the database, but the
interface with the database. The same setting can be used in de
windows 95/98/NT registry.

ORA-03115 error when calling a Stored Procedure

I'm in the process of porting a Pro/C app from NT to Linux. I've installed 8.1.5 on our Linux box and patched it up to 8.1.5.02.
It all kind of works ok, except that I'm sometimes getting ORA-03115 errors when the app calls a stored procedure. The call in question looks like this:

The stored procedure basically uses the resp_id value to select rows from a table;
in each row there is a VARCHAR2(4000) column which it copies into the hostarray resprows.
There may be anything from 1 to numrows returned from the SP.
Initially, the resprows rows were defined to be size [4000]. Unfortunately, this caused ORA-02005 errors - I then changed the size to [3998], which seemed to fix the 02005's (although I'm unclear as to the reasons why).
Now I'm getting the 03115 errors when calling the SP. The oracle manual is not very helpful on what this error means.
This all works chipper on NT.
Any ideas?

You have schema called LAZARUS, which holds a package named LAZARUS, which holds a procedure called POPULATEGRIDPOSITIONS?

ORA-04062 error when running forms with different users

ORA-04062 error when running forms with different users
I have a form that has a block that should display some data from another users tables. (The other user's name is dynamic, it's selected from a list box)
I wrote a stored procedure to get the data from other user's tables.
When I compile the form and run it with the same user I compiled, it works without any error. But when I run the compiled form with another user I get the ORA-04062 (signature of procedure has been changed) error.
I tried setting REMOTE_DEPENDENCIES_MODE to SIGNATURE in init.ora but it didn't help.
My Forms version is 6i with Patch 15.
Database version is 9.
Here is my stored procedure:

I would be happy to solve this problem. It's really important.
Maybe somebody can tell me another way to do what I want to do. (getting a list of values from another users tables)

I think it should be a better solution to create a package,
and put your own TYPES and procedure into it.

11gR2 Error when installing a database and schema

I have install 11gR2 on my laptop with window 7 4gb ram 500gb hard drive
I getting this error
ORA-01503: CREATE Controlfile / Failed
and
ORA-01158: Database already mounted
i need to set up a database a 3 different schema
because i am doing a install of Hyperion Share service, Essbase and Planning
Please advise

ORA -12569 error when querying dba_change_notification_regs table

Hi,
I am getting ORA-12569 error when i am trying to execute Select * from dba_change_notification_regs from sys user .we are working on oracle 10.2 version.

ORA-12569:     TNS:packet checksum failure
Cause:      The data received is not the same as the data sent.
Action:      Attempt the transaction again. If the error is persistent, turn on tracing and reexecute the operation.

Avoiding concurrency errors when updating a database through AJAX

What are some strategies for avoiding concurrency errors when updating a database through AJAX. That is, in cases where a given user could attempt to modify the same row in the database with simultaneous requests (say, that he updates one column with information with an AJAX call, then immediately submits a form that updates the same row), what are some good ways yo prevent the two updates from colliding? On the JavaScript side one might make the AJAX call synchronous, but I question whether that is the best way to do it. Has anyone else confronted this?

Well, since no one seems to have any ideas so far, I'll throw in my two cents worth.
I'm not too familiar with AJAX so my advice may be limited.
I suggest you do a google search on Optimistic concurrency database to get some ideas on how to handle it.
If your update/insert/delete query is thread safe, then even if the same user double clicks the button fast enough to immediately have another update to the same record, then the first update will complete before the second one is carried out. Therefore no harm is done since he is just updating the same record. Since a typical update/insert/delete takes only a few milliseconds (querying may take a lot more time), its not likely he can click the button that fast. (I assume your using connection pooling for speed).
The trouble comes up when two people call up data from the same record in different browsers. The first one updates/inserts/deletes the record. Now the other user is looking at old data. When he updates/inserts/deletes, there is a problem. One way to handle this is to keep a copy of all the fields from that record in each user's session scope when they first fetch it from the database (example: oldName). Then when you go to update some time later, to this:
sql= update person set name=newValue where personID=3344 and name=oldName
Note oldName is from session scope.
If name in the database has changed, the update will not occur and will return 0 records updated. If it didn't change, it will update.
Note your update function should not throw an exception if it cant update, it should return false. Return true if it worked.
Example: public boolean updateName(String name)
Similiarly, your insert should not throw an exception if the record already exists, it should return false meaning it cant insert.
Exaple: public bolean insertName(String name). Same thing with delete function.
If a record cant be updated due to someone else updating the record while the user was looking at data, return a message that it wasn't updated due to that problem. Then show the user the new value in the database ask him if he wants to overwrite the new change.
Note even if you show 100 records on the JSP, only update the ones that have changed and not all 100. This way, its not likely he has updated the same records someone else has altered. Less likely a colision compared to updating all 100.
If your updating/inserting/deleting more than 1 record (say, 3), then you should look into setting up a transaction in addition to all the above and rolling back all of them if one fails.
