Ora-12514 - sqlnet.log states ora-12564
Oracle 8.1.5 w/Patch level 02 applied
I have come to the end of my rope. I have tried and tried to connect to my database using the following: sqlplus system/manager@mydbname and always get ora-12514. When I look at the sqlnet.log file I find:
Tns error struct:
nr err code: 0
ns main err code: 12564
TNS-12564: TNS:connection refused
etc etc etc
I turned trace on level 6 for the client and I find these items scattered about:
nncpmlf_make_local_addrfile: construction of local names file failed
niotns: Call refused: (DESCRIPTION=(TMP=)(VSNNUM=135286784)(ERR=12514)(ERROR_STACK=(ERROR=(CODE=12514(EMFI=4))))
nioqper: error from nscall
etc etc etc
I am so frustrated. Somebody please help.

Hi Randy,
I got the same problem and I fixed it using the "netasst" (for
solaris) or Net8 Assistant (for windows).
Within the Assistant select your Service Naming (mydbname as in
your exemple), in the right site check the "Use Oracle8i Release
8.0 Compatible Identification" box. This will enable the SID
field, enter there your "mydmname" and save this new
configuration.
Exit the Assistant and test your connect string.
I hope this will fix your problem.

Jeferson

ORA-12564 Protocol Adapter Error -- ON Windows NT platform
I have installed 9iAS and Oracle 816 on a server as per instructions. But i started the install CD of 9iAS and after the reboot installed the 816 and 9iAS. I am able to connect to the database and create a DAD but when i try logging into the database from a client machine i get the above error ORA-12564 Protocol Adapter Error. Tnsping to Db and Ping to server from client machine respond with OK msgs. But SQLPLUS will not connect and returns above error.
We are trying to test 9iAS and perform enhancement tests to the application on 816, but are unable to connect from client machines. Any help in this matter would be highly appreciated. Thanks.Pl indicate which version of "10g" and which version of Windows 2008 - R1 or R2 ?

ORA-12564: TNS:connection refused
C# code:
private Oracle.DataAccess.Client.OracleConnection objConn;
objConn.ConnectionString = "User Id=tst;Data Source=CZETEST;Password=1234;"
objConn.Open();
tnsnames.ora
CZETEST =
(DESCRIPTION =
(ADDRESS_LIST =
(ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = TCP)(HOST = XXX.NET)(PORT = 1621))
(CONNECT_DATA =
(SERVICE_NAME = XXX.CZ)
I'm trying to connect to an Oracle 10g server.
objConn.Open(); always ends with "ORA-12564: TNS:connection refused"
I've even tried to let the connection build by ODT connection wizzard ('Test connection' button displays 'Connection was successfull', but when the code is run the result is unfortunately the same :(
Anybody knows where the problem should be?This is often a malformed tnsnames.ora. Is what you posted a snippet, because it looks to me that you a closing ) too many. You can turn on tracing which should help you find the problem. It's odd that odt says the connection works, though.

Hi Experts,
Whenever any network issues or something happens so that connection between client and Oracle server has lost.
Can that information store in client sqlnet.log file or do need to set some settings so that it'll write into sqlnet.log.
Why i am asking this is we have an issues today i got one error
ORA-12571 - TNS: Packet Writer Failure
in one of our process log file. So want to know is this a network issues or any other issues ??1009072 wrote:
Hi Sybrand,
Thanks for your quick response. I have below one concern
Errors, orginating at the client, automatically are written to sqlnet.log
i dont see any sqlnet.log file in client ORACLE_HOME/network/admin location. That means from client side everything was ok when the issue occurred ??
sqlnet.log files aren't always written to ORACLE_HOME/network/anything. I've seen them show up in the 'current' directory of the client process that created the error. -
Sqlnet.log file creation permissions
One of my sites has a sqlnet.log file that has been symlinked to /dev/null and we are trying to determine if this has caused the issue with /dev/null's permissions being reset to 660 instead of 666.
It looks like the other sqlnet.log files that are not symlinked to /dev/null are 640 so we are not sure this is the issue.
Does anyone know if oracle changes permissions on the sqlnet.log file at creation or access time? And how it might change those permissions?
This is on Oracle 10g running on RHEL4
edit: I typed sqlnet.ora instead of sqlnet.log ... oops.
Edited by: user12198769 on Nov 10, 2009 7:35 AMlooks to be just the default in that file:
NAMES.DIRECTORY_PATH= (TNSNAMES, ONAMES, HOSTNAME)
There are several sqlnet.log files in other places on the server yet there is only one oracle home on here so is there another location that has sqlnet.ora info? -

Please check the connectivity from server to client.
And also check whether the tnsnames.ora file has the TNS entry of the DB server which you are trying to connect.
Then TNSPING the server with tns name.
If this also doesnt work try commenting all lines in sqlnet.ora file on server.
Check the listener status also on the server. -
Is there a way I can control (using OCI) the directory where the sqlnet.log file is being created. In our application the user can change the current directory and hence the sqlnet.log files appear all over the place.
We'd like to have all log files for this application in the same directory so setting the LOG_DIRECTORY_CLIENT in sqlnet.ora is not an option (as this changes the log for all applications).An OCI application creates SQLNET LOGs in the current directory by default.
However the SQLNET can be trapped by OCI calls and put into Applications LOGs -
With the error message in my sqlnet.log,what can I do?
I am installing Oracle IAS Today in my win2000 server system.When I restart my computer,I fond these message in the sqlnet.log file :

Any help appreciate!The Basic Troubleshooting Steps are:
Restart.. Reset.. Restore from Backup.. Restore as New...
Try a Reset of the Phone... You will Not Lose Any Data...
Turn the Phone Off...
Press and Hold the Sleep/Wake Button and the Home Button at the Same Time...
The Apple logo will Appear and then Disappear...
Usually takes about 10 - 15 Seconds...
Turn the Phone On...
If that does not help... See Here:

Hello, we have an OracleWeblogic 10.3.2 running on a Solaris OS.
In this AppServer we have a FullStack J2EE Application executing distributed transactions that involve 3 manageable resources:
TxDatasource (EJB),
NonTxDatasource with enableTwoPhaseCommit and

Some of the transactions are timing out while in 'Logging' state and I just cant figure out what the root cause is. As a defensive action I lowered the JTA Timeout seconds because I noticed the 'Logging' phase was taking too long and then timing out. Idea here was not to have too many threads hanging in Logging state and therefore use the JTA Timeout to overcome this problem and minimize impact.
Below, I'm posting a few exceptions thrown in applicaiton log. Any help is very appreciated.

DML ERROR LOGGING STATEMENT FAILS FOR MULTITABLE INSERT
When I use a simple expression in my dml error logging statement for a multitable insert I get 'end of file on communication channel' on the compile(in all guis tested). It works fine without the simple expression for the multitable insert. The simple expression works ok with a single table insert.
example:
this works ok for single table insert and blows up on multitable inserts:
LOG ERRORS INTO ERR$_INVOICE (TO_CHAR(SYSDATE,'YYYYMMDD HH:MI:SS')) REJECT LIMIT UNLIMITED;
this works ok for both:
LOG ERRORS INTO ERR$_CINVOICE REJECT LIMIT UNLIMITED;
any ideas?No version number, no DDl, and no DML. No help is possible.
Complete version information and a demo that people can run to duplicate your situation will increase the chance of getting help.
I, for example, have no idea what you intend with the statement multitable insert. Is this a reference to INSERT ALL or INSERT FIRST or some other syntax? -
Fatal NI connect error 12203 resulting huge increase in sqlnet.log file
Hi,
I am getting the following error message in SQLNET.LOG file on the client machine. This is my upload program which takes few hours to complete and during the program run, the size of SQLNET.LOG file keeps on increasing and goes to 100's of MB and it contains only this error repeatedly.
But my program gets connected to Database and does the upload. But the size of SQLNET.LOG file grows like anything. Pls let me know what's going wrong.

Regards,
Mitesh V.Hi,
Actually I thought this error is appearing in only one of the machines, but when I am figuring out, I found the same error in almost all the client machines.
Though the programs are running fine getting the database connectivity, I am not able to find why it is giving error showing connection through BEQ protocol.
Pls someone tell me why this is happening and how I will find out which protocol it is using.

Registering log statements with application.log
Hello,
I'm struggling with how to direct my log statements to application.log. If I just initialize a logger via java.util.logging within my application, its log messages are routed to the opmn log (unless I add a filter redirecting them to a file). Likewise, if I use System.out, they go to opmn. What's the best practice for directing your application log statements to application.log (note, I'm deploying to oc4j). Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks.^ ...specifically, how do I print to application.log from the EJB app.

Welcome to the Apple user discussion forums
I'll hit a few of your questions - others will have to do others since I'm not up on some of the issues you ask about
4) is there an easy way to review/delete items (in 6, i run a basic slideshow and delete on the fly -- is this still workable in 7?)?
Yes
5) Are there significant functionality benefits of 7 over 6 (e.g., does the noise function or shadow/highlight really offer significant benefits? The Events seems obvious, but I'm more interested in "under the hood" experience
Yes
Loseless editing - web galleries - events
a) Is import any faster? As my library is growing in size, the import is getting overly slow
It is fine for me (only you can compare to your current) - I have 20542 items using 26.3 GB in 271 events
7) Is there a full-screen edit mode?
yes
8) Can you configure events so that it's not just by day?
yes
9) Is 6's "roll" structure as mirrored in the file system still available in the Events approach, or is the database structure that once you've converted a library, there's no going back?
Events replace rolls (if your rolls are named - NOT the default rollxxx name - they will come across as is - to me events are rolls with much more capability and a new name - some people are VERY putoff by the change (but most love it) for reasons that I simply do not comprehend
10) What is the effective (or advised) maximum library size? I've probably got over 60GB of images in my libraries now, with 20,000 images or so. If 7 can readily digest them (and preserve all my albums, etc.), then I'd love to combine them into one, unless that will kill performance, make the database unstable, drive backups into interminable waits, etc.
The advertised max is 250,000 photos - I have about the same number of photos as you in about 1/3 the space - there are a few users here with libararies your size. With iPhoto Library Manager it is easy to maintain multiple libraries if you choose

Very Urgent, sqlnet.log, nmi.log file sizes
Hi all,
Please here my dabatabase server c drive almost full, the machine became very slow, i want to reduce any files thus giving some free space, i found sqlnet.log, nmi.log files are aeach 600 MB, my server database is 24 * 7, OLTP.
is there nay chance i can delete this? or replace with with two empty file with same names overwriting them and restart the server?
what are the problems if i do so? anybody tell whjat i should do?
THnks in advanceHi,
You can check the path of the system tablespace files from the DBA_DATA_FILES view. But to change that from C: to D: you will need downtime. This activity can only be done at the mount stage.
First identify which tablespace is being hit the most. Add a datafile to that tablespace in the D: so that the load can be balanced between C: and D:.
If SYSTEM is one of those tablespaces then add a datafile in D: for SYSTEM tablespace like this
ALTER TABLESPACE SYSTEM
ADD DATAFILE 'D:\.....' SIZE 100M AUTOEXTEND ON MAXSIZE 2048M;
You do not require a restart for this; It can be done online.
Before you could do the above activity I suggest you try to free up some space on C: inself. Check if the alert log is on C: and has grown in MBs. Check if the archive logs are on C: if your database is in ARCHIVELOG mode. Delete any dump file that you might have created in the past and is not of any use. Clear the Event Viewer in Windows. Empy the Recycle bin. etc.
In a nutshell, MAKE SOME PLACE TO LIVE!

Hi team.
The Cisco Supervisor Desktop don't show any logs in the "Agent Logs - State" and "Agent Logs - Call" in some agents.
I restarted the Cisco Desktop Services in CCX Serviceability but the issue continue.
I appreciate any help respect this case.
Thanks a lot.
ErnestoGHi Ernesto,
Did you click or selct the Specific Agent\Inbound call which is currently being handled by the Agent. From the Screenshot you have attached (first one) doesn't look like the call has been selected.
Please select or click on that Specific Agent\Inbound call from CSD and check these values.
Hope this helps.
