ORA-12560 listener error WIN XP ora10g

I connect database by sqlplus / nolog normaly, but my listener cant start. I get ORA-12560 error.
1- I my tnsnames.ora_OLD and listener.ora_OLD and crate new one but still error;
2- i do
net stop oracleserviceora10g
net start oracleserviceoa10gBut still error.
3- i set ORACLE_HOME and ORACLE_SID and still error...
Someone can help me??
Tks,
Elber.

Elber,
You can turn trace on and see what's wrong. This is the first step for you solve your problem.
Put the following line in your listener.ora file and then try start again. After this, look into trace file.
TRACE_LEVEL_listener_name=user
TRACE_DIRECTORY_listener_name (By default the directory is ORACLE_HOME\network\trace on Windows NT, and the file name is listener.trc)

  • ORA-12560 TNS error in protocol adapter. Why ?

I installed on computer1 an Oracle Express 10g server and he runs fine.
Then, on another computer2 in the inhouse-net I installed the Oracle Client.
When I try to contact now from computer2 the Oracle server on computer1
    with e.g.
    sqlplus.exe myname/mypasswd
I am getting an error ORA-12560: TNS: Error in protofol adapter.
What does that mean? When I enter the same locally on the server machine everything is fine.
Firewalls between the computers are disabled.
Which Oracle services must run on the client (not the server !) machine ?

Ok, my Oracle Client is installed in C:\XEClient
Below I show you the (recursive) output of the 'tree.exe' command (under WinXP)
of the folder tree of C:\XEClient. Where is the directory "network/admin" ??????

  • Ora-12560 TNS ERROR

    Hello All!
I keep getting this error after installation ,when I try to log into SQL+:
    Ora-12560 TNS PROTOCOL ADAPTER ERROR..
Any ideas how to go about it?
    thanks!
    Sandhya

    Hi Sandhya,
Are the scripts used to restart your database instance(s) after system restart also starting the TNS listener process?
Are you using multiple Oracle Homes? Oracle 8.1.5 or 8.1.6 with Oracle 8.0 can cause 'issues'.
    Cause:
ORA-12560: "TNS:protocol adapter error" that means the listener was unable to start a process connecting the user to the database server.
    Actions:
Check addresses used for proper protocol specification. Before
reporting this error, look at the error stack and check for lower level transport errors. For further details, turn on tracing and reexecute the operation. Turn off tracing when the operation is complete.
TNS experienced a protocol-adapter error. There could be some problem with the installation of your Oracle Protocol Adapter. To resolve this problem, turn on tracing and review the output to identify the severity of the problem

    Beau

  • ORA-12514 Listener Error on server

How come I keep getting a error message that the TNS Listener does not currently know of service error (ORA-12514) only on my server when trying to connect from the same server as the 10G 10.2.0.3. database is running on? If I do not use the @ connection it works fine as the ORACLE_SID environment variable is set to the instance name in the tnsnames.ora file. My 8i and 9i clients have no problem connecting to this server and the 10g database using the @ in the connection string but I believe their .net services files (tnsnames.ora and sqlnet.ora) are configured native to the versions configured on the clients (8i or 9i).
This is the error from the server and a sucessful connection not using the @ sign in the connection string:
    SQL> connect sys@prod as sysdba
    Enter password:
    ERROR:
ORA-12514: TNS:listener does not currently know of service requested in

Is there something wrong with the listener.ora file on my server? Here is the current listener.ora file current on the host server (10g 10.2.0.3), it's tnsnames.ora file and below this a 9i client tnsnames.ora file which is sucessfully using a tnsnames.ora connection using username@server_name/password.
Any help would be greatly appreciated:

And finnaly the tnsnames.ora for the 9i client connecting to the 10g database on the server (Windows 2003):

hello, please try to comment the line in the sqlnet.ora file on the client and try again. If it works do the same on the server. Or you can set the value to NONE instead of (NTS).
Try this and let me know - this can be the reason why you cannot login without password as sysdba. When you are not using @ in sqlplus from the server these files are not read that's why it works.
If it does not work yet in the same file try adding the line:
    NAMES.DIRECTORY_PATH= (TNSNAMES)

  • Error Ora-12560: TNS: error del adaptador del Protocolo

When I'm connect to oracle data base I have this problem it's the error.
What can I do whith my problem.
    Please helpme.

It's basically saying that you cannot connect because the SQL*Net process can't find the database.
    Check:
    1) your tnsname.ora file is correct
    2) your ORACLE_HOME is correct (if you are getting the error on the server console)
    3) Check the alert log - that can often contain some more information.
    4) The listener is up and running.

  • Error ORA-12560 prompts when trying to log in to the Enterprise Manager

    Hi all,
I am a newbie to Oracle.
Just installed the Oracle 9i Database Enterprise Edition (9.0.1) into Windows Server 2003 Standard Edition. Problem is encountered when trying to log in to the Enterprise Manager Standalone mode using either system/oracle or scott/tiger as credentials. Error "ORA-12560: TNS:protocol adapter error" prompts.
I tried to check with some configuration and see whether the services are started. Services of "OracleOraHome90TNSListener" and "OracleServiceORCL" have been started and the database exists in the dedicated directory. Environment variables of "ORACLE_HOME" and "ORACLE_SID" have been added manually as the SID is set to orcl, which I just follow what the instruction manual has stated. Moreover, I can't get access using command prompt typing "svrmgrl"; error returned stating " 'svrmgrl' is not recognized as an internal or external command, operable program or batch file."
Another information is that there is no domain set in my server. Just a server with a name being assigned in a workgroup.
Hence, would you mind please advice me what to do in order to get access into the Enterprise Manager? It's quite an urgent task.
    A million thx in advance!
    Best Regards,
    Karen

    Hi Jigneshrp,
    Thanks for your reply.
It is checked that the listener is running and TNS name service exists. Following your advice, I did create a new listener and another name service and use them, but the same error turns out when trying to log in to the Enterprise Manager again.
Additional information to take note for is that while reconfiguring the existing listener or creating a new listener, a mesage prompts stating "The information provided for this listener is currently in use by other software on this computer. You can proceed with the configuration as it is, but it will not be possible to start this listener until the conflict is resolved. Would you like to continue with the continue with the configuration anyway? Yes/No".
As for the reconfiguration or the new creation of TNS names service, when I am trying to test for the connection, the results in the details pane states that "Connecting... ORA-12560: TNS:protocol adapter error. The test did not succeed...."
Would you mind pls advice me on these?
Furthermore, there exist 2 questions I am wondering is that it is stated in the instruction manual that prior to the installation, a static IP should be specified for it instead of the DHCP one; hence, I wanna ask after the complete insallation, is it that the server should be running in the network, i.e. allow it to get connected with the outside network?
2nd question is that can Oracle 9i Database Server Standard Edition (9.0.1) be installed under a Windows Server 2003 Standard Edition and just a Window XP Professional?
    Thanks for your reply.
    Best Regards,
    Karen

Does anyone have any ideas what else I can check. I'm a Unix person, not a Windows person, which is making it even more complicated. If I was on Unix, I'd just blow everything away and start again from scratch, but since I'm not sure how to remove all traces from the registry, etc., I don't want to try that on this machine. There was already one other database created, but it's not goign to be used.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    regards,
    Tarisa.

    hi,
thanks for the info. the problem, as it turns out, was that I was connected to the db server via a terminal service (Microsoft Management Console), which for some reason caused probelms with TNS. After I connected directly to the machine using VNC, I was able to create the database with no problems. strange but true.
    regards,
    Tarisa.

  • ORA-12560: TNS:protocol adapter error in Oracle Forms...

Hi, I installed Oracle developer suite to use for Oracle forms but am getting "ORA-12560: TNS:protocol adapter error" when trying to run a form. The database is running locally on my PC.
I've run the command line to see if hostname matches up with the "HOST= " in the ".../network/admin/listener.ora " file match, they do. What can I try next? I did have Oracle 10gXE installed, which I have now removed. I'm including my tnsnames and listener file content:
    # tnsnames.ora Network Configuration File: C:\oracle\product\10.2.0\db_1\network\admin\tnsnames.ora

    (DESCRIPTION =

Thanks in advance for any help!

Of course you found another one. Each .and every Oracle database client home (such as developer, app server) has one.
Don't just change the port - the tnsnames.ora in the dev home does not point to a database service. It only points to an extproc [external procedure called by a database]. You need to put a database service entry into that file similar to the one in the database home. (Easiest solution - copy the tnsnames.ora from db home ... after you've made a backup)
And please don't tell me you are using Developer 6i - a simple Google search would verify that the networking is incompatible.

  • ORA-12560: TNS:protocol adapter error

    Hi!
    Our environment:
    Application server:
Windows Server 2003, Oracle 9i Client
    Database server:
Windows Server 2003, Oracle 9i Database
On our application server we have a batch file that should run a job in the background. The problem is with the connection
from the app. server to the db server. This error appears when trying to connect via client (regardless which user) to the db server.
When pinging the db server: tnsping <service> there is no problem. Also no problems with the ports or network. There is no listener
    configured on the app. server.
