ORA-27146 on Solaris

We just installed Oracle 8i on Solaris 7. We used the database configuration assistant to create script files to create a database. When we run the controlling script, we get the error "ORA-27146 post/wait initialization failed." "ORA-03114 Not connected to Oracle" also appears.
Any suggestions?

Problem solved. The Unix kernel parmaters in /etc/system were not set correctly due to syntax errors which produced no error messages. Unix simply used the defaults.

    Hi all,
I had a problem when trying to startup 2 database at Solaris8 machine. Please help me to solve this problem.
    Problem:
I have created 2 database seperately. But I couldnt started up those 2 database at the same machine. Like either one is alive but not second one. When I startup the second database, got this error message : ORA-27146 Post/Wait Initialization failed.
I have tried to increase the sizes of System file variables at /etc/system, but its not.
I dont know the calculation for those variables when I use 2 or more instances.
    Environment : Solaris8 / Oracle 8.1.5.
Please let me know if you need more clarification of problem.

its a resources issue. change the init.ora file for resources such as db block buffers, processes, etc. you will be able to start the instance.

  • Ora 8i for Solaris needed

    Hi
I'm about to recover an instance from an Rman backup where only the backup file itself is available. Since nobody alive seems to know what Ora version the original DB was from I need to have at least 9i and 8i available for installation so I can make sure rman can read the file. 9i is available for download but 8i has been pulled from the web, so I have no idea where to get it.
It wouldn't be a problem if the customer still existed but the company has been aquired by my asigner and nobody, including Oracle support, knows anything about the original company, so I can't get any help from there.
So, does anyone know of any ftp or such from where i can get 8i for Solaris? It would be of great help.
    Thanks
    Tom

Have you an oracle support contract ?
    Ask him this Oracle version.
Since Oracle 8i is desupported, we cannot download it from Oracle website.

  • PLZ HELP ME:::Degradation in performance of ORA-10G in solaris sparc

    Hi ,
We recently installed solaris 10 (5.10) on sun sparc 64 bit machine and created oracle DB with 10.2.0.1 release .
Our java application calls the oracle procedure
and procedure returns the result set with sys_refcursor as out parameter.
After solaris 10 installation, our application performance has come down drastically.
The same application is running fine on solaris 9 ( 5.9 )
    Old configuration
    sun sparc 64 bit
solaris 9 (no patches applied )
oarcle 10.2.0.1 (no patches applied )
    jboss      3.2.7
    jdk 1.4
    New configuration
    sun sparc 64 bit
solaris 10 (no patches applied )
oarcle 10.2.0.1 (no patches applied )
    jboss 3.2.7
    jdk 1.4
would like to know about any known Solaris , Oracle DB patches to address this performance issue.
Any solution to bring back the same old performance with out downgrading , would be of great help to us.
    thanks a lot in advance.

we dont have this problem before on the same machine.
But the machine is rebooted with new OS of solaris, and Oracle 10G is installed Freshly as previously. So you want to say that the only thing that changed is the Operating System, the remaining things haven't been touched? "Freshly" installed sounds like a new installation, but that's not what you want to say, is it?
But if we include in the new stored procedures, they r not executing at the same time as earlier procedures does.Unclear what the "new stored procedures" are you are referring to.
No change in the procedures and queries.
we have two instances of our application on the same database with stored procedures(queries included in the stored procedures), this is causing degradation.
As the second instance with no stored procedures, but the same queries will be posed is not showing any degradation. So you have two versions of your application - one using stored procedures that contain queries (and return the result set as REF CURSORs?) and the other one doesn't use these stored procedures?
You need to track down what is causing the performance degradation. Since you're already on 10g you might want to use the built-in AWR reports as a starting point to find out what might be the difference resp. what is causing the most load on the database (of course only if you have an AWR license purchased).

  • Solaris installation - ORA-27302

    Hi,
I was trying to install the Oracle Collaboration Suite on a Solaris box. During the Information storage, I got the following error in the Oracle Database Configuration Assistant:
    ORA-27302: failure occured at: skgpwreset1
ORA-27303: additional information: invalid shared ctx
    ORA-27146: post/wait initialization failed
ORA-27300: OS system dependent operation: semget failed with status: 28
ORA-27301: OS Failure message: No space left on device.
    ORA-27302: failure occured at: sskgpsemsper.
The disk for Oracle is total 27 GB and still have 14 GB free space.
I have inserted the sample setting stated in the Table 2-19 to /etc/system and installed the patch clusters.
Anyone has any clue about this problem?

Most probably you have run out of 'inodes' - check the documentation for the kernel parameter settings like max open files, ulimit etc etc
    hope this helps

  • ORA-27300 error while initializing a new 8i database

Sorry if this 8i EE related question doesn't belong in this thread, I didn't find an 8i EE discussion forum.
I am trying to create a new database on 8i EE, Solaris 7 on E250 with 512MB of physical memory. After creating a param file, when I try to initialize it in NOMOUNT mode I get ORA-27146, ORA-27300, ORA-27301 and ORA-27302 errors. ORA-27302 points at 'sskgpcreates' as additional info.
Any help in resolving this error will be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Arun

The ORA-27146: post/wait initialization failed means that you have run out of OS semaphores.
You can either decrease the PROCESSES parameter in the init<SID>.ora file or
increase the number of OS semaphores (SEMMNS).

For all of those newbies like me I forgot to set some system settings. Here are the system settings I needed to put into /etc/system:
    set semsys:seminfo_semmni=100
    set semsys:seminfo_semmns=3000
    set semsys:seminfo_semmsl= 256
    set shmsys:shminfo_shmmax=4294967295
    set shmsys:shminfo_shmmin=1
    set shmsys:shminfo_shmmni=200
    set shmsys:shminfo_shmseg=20

  • Change parameter PROCESSES=100  in initSID.ora

I changed PROCESSES=30 to PROCESSES=37,shutdown and startup Oracle, then no problem.
    but PROCESSES=40(OR 50,>=38),shutdown and startup,then error:
    ora-27146 Post/Wait initialization failed.
Now ,how to tune this parameter.
    my System:
    sun sparc solaris 2.3
    Oraclei

You might have hit the user limit for the number
of processes. Check the output of ulimit -a for oracle
and adjust the limits accordingly. Depending on the
hard limits on your system you might need root access as
well in order to adjust the hard limits.

  • Error during creation of database

I am running oracle 8i on solaris 7.I already had a database up and running. Now i was trying to create another one.I created password file,Parameter file and also set the ORACLE_SID and connected with server manager and try to start the instance in nomount but faced an error ora-27146 .

IS there some body who will help me out
    Thanks

You should post your issue to the database area.
    http://forums.oracle.com/forums/category.jspa?categoryID=18
The short answer is however since you are logging in as the OS user (/) the database is reporting the OS user doesn't have the sysdba privilege. Did you grant the OS user sysdba or dba privs? Can you log in with sqlplus /
You would get better answers from the database area.

  • (urgent) Can't Start the database

    Hi,
    can anybody help me ?
i shutdown the database on Sun solaris from telnet. On the middle the internet connection wa down. And when i connect again and try to start the database there is a error
    ORA-27146: post/wait initialization failed
i try to startup nomount and the message still come.
Anybody ever get this problem ?
please help me, because my company data was there.
    Thanks

Once we have a problem after shutdown we are unable to startup the database on Sequent Numaq os Dynix/ptx 4.4
After shutdown the file sgadefSID.dbf should not be there in ORACLE_HOME\dbs directory.
But in our case this file was still there after shutdown we deleted this file and then using IPCRM command we deleted the process owned by oracle user .
to delete it need identifier number it can be find out by ipcs command.

P.S.: I'm running Oracle under Solaris on a SunBlade 100

Try to add the extra parameters to the etc/system file listed
    below.
Remember to backup this file, if you wite something really
ridiculous here your system won't boot.
    etc/system snippet:
    set shmsys:shminfo_shmmax=4294967295
    set shmsys:shminfo_shmmin=1
    set shmsys:shminfo_shmmni=100
    set shmsys:shminfo_shmseg=10
    set semsys:seminfo_semmni=100
    set semsys:seminfo_semmsl=200
    set semsys:seminfo_semmns=600
    set semsys:seminfo_semopm=100
    set semsys:seminfo_semvmx=32767
These are all values derived from the Oracle Docs.
We had some trouble having 2 Oracle instances running on a
single Netra T1 512Mb box, used as a Test DB and the additional
parameters in the next section were recommended to us from our
hosting partner. If anyone could comment on the validity of
these it would be greatly recommended.

  • Install failing when running Database Configuration Assistant

I am trying to install Oracle 9i on a new Solaris 9 box. Everything goes fine until oui tries to run the Database Configuration Assistant. It is at the "Creating and starting Oracle Instance" stage that I get a popup which says:
    ORA-27302: failure occured at: skgpwreset1
ORA-27303: additional information: invalid shared ctx
    ORA-27146: post/wait initialization failed with
    status:28
ORA-27301: OS failure message: No space left on device
    ORA-27302: failure occured at: sskgpcreates
I don't understand the "No space left on device" as I have ~30 GB available. I am hoping it is a result of the invalid shared ctx above it. Other than this, the installation completes without any errors.
I have been banging my head against this for over a week! Does anyone have any suggestions. I am sorry I waited so long to post the question, but I could use some assistance urgently.
    TIA,
    Steve

    Solution:
For Solaris 9 the (recommended) /etc/system parameters look like this:
    set semsys:seminfo_semmni= 100
    set semsys:seminfo_semmns= 1024
    set semsys:seminfo_semmsl= 256
    set shmsys:shminfo_shmmax=4294967295
    set shmsys:shminfo_shmmni=100
The other parameters are not needed in this Solaris version.
    I hope this is useful.

You ned to increase semaphores in etc/system file.Only root can change these values in Solaris.
PUt the following parametrs sa given below or increase the existing values to march below values.
These are the values in etc/system file you need to set to overcome your problem.hre you can go up to 200 processes.
    set shmsys:shminfo_shmmax=4294967295
    set shmsys:shminfo_shmmin=1
