ORA-29701: unable to connect to Cluster Synchronization Service

Hi, I'm working on an Oracle 11.2 EE on a RedHat 5.4.
I installed the Grid Infrastructure to work with ASM.
While starting ASM instance I got this error:
ORA-01078: failure in processing system parameters
ORA-29701: unable to connect to Cluster Synchronization Service
I tried to start the resource wiht:
$ crsctl start resource -all
CRS-4639: Could not contact Oracle High Availability Services
CRS-4000: Command Start failed, or completed with errors.
Then i tried this:
$ crsctl start has
CRS-4124: Oracle High Availability Services startup failed.
CRS-4000: Command Start failed, or completed with errors.
Do you have any suggestion on how start the CSS?

it was just a metter of the run level.
As soon as I set it to 5 everything started to work.

This is happening to me on Red Hat ES 3. I can start the ASM instance fine after the system boots, but I can't get it to start automatically during boot.
I'm guessing that the cluster management services aren't up yet during boot, but I can't seem to get the timing right in my rc.d setup. If I try a startup priority of 50, then I get the error. If I try a priority of 91, the instance does not even try to start (I'm not sure why).
Should I put a loop in my ASM startup script, waiting for the services to become available? If so, what should that loop look for? Or, should I go into inittab, where init.ocssd is invoked, and somehow tell the boot process to wait until the services have started?

@CMS shorthand - unable to connect to cluster

We are moving from CE10 to BOE XIR3.1.
We make a fair bit of use of the shorthand CMS syntax for system, say for eg:
@Reports instead of the server name of RPNSBLK7
It just makes it easier for users/developers to use the @Reports syntax. When we run our VB Scripts now, or try authenticating from CR2008, we get the following error:
"Unable to connect to cluster @Reports:6400 to retrieve CMS member list. Locally cached member list not present. Logon cannot continue."
Has anyone else noticed this, and is there a workaround/solution?
Our production server name is extremely laborious and the cluster name is far easier.

The first time you login, use the full server name of the CMS machine. Once the list of cluster members is locally cached, the next time on you should be able to use just the cluster name.
BTW, why are you saying @Reports:6400? You do not need the port number when using the cluster name. You need to use the port # only with the CMS name and when it is a non-standard port #.

Unable to connect to cluster to retrieve updated CMS member list.

Hi,
1.We have total 3 unix servers gesprddwbo01, gesprddwbo02, gesprddwbo03
2.We have 2 cms running on servers bo01 and bo02 and both of them
are clustered.bo01 is main server and 02 is clustered
3.We have shut down server 02.
4.But when I am trying to login to CMC, I am getting error "Unable to
connect to cluster to retrieve updated CMS member list."
I think we need to change clsuter settings since one cms has been
deleted which was part of clustering.

search SAP notes for your tomcat clustering or cluster.properties. You need to add your cluster members to the web.xml or the cluster.properties file (some direction is in the web.xml file to follow).

The search request was unable to connect to the Search Service

I have upgraded from WSS 3.0 to SharePoint Foundation 2010. So far everything appears to be OK apart from my search.
When I attempt a search I get the following:
The search request was unable to connect to the Search Service.
I checked the Manage Database Update Status in Central Admin and noticed the following(an upgrade is required):
Also, I checked Manage Services on Server and noticed that the only search related service is 'SharePoint Foundation Help Search'.
If I go into Manage Service Applications and click new there is no option to add a search service.
Finally I tried PSConfig:

Hi,
SharePoint Foundation the search service should be installed by default. It's not the same as with 2010 Standard or Enterprise where you can create a "Service Application" for it.

IP address changed and unable to connect to the java services?

Hi Guys,
we had installed PI 7.1 and everything is working perfectly fine. we have moved the system to the data center from our network. The server has been assigned a new IP address. All instances (ABAP+JAVA) have come up and i was able to login the ABAP stack.
But when i try to open http://hostname:50000/dir is not working and when i check in SMICM trace i am getting the error as conect to host:50000 failed check the host configuration .
I have also mapped the IP address to the host name in the host file but it did not help.
any help would be appreciated

Thanks for the quick reply. I am unable to connect to any java services like IR, ID, NWA etc with neither IP or FQDN. We did not had any issues previously with the FQDN and only change is now the IP address is changed.

Error : when try to configure as SOAP Service from ESB is "The selected porttype is using a message that is invalid for ESB bcause it is multi-part or has a simple type.
Options we think are
1) Convert the RPC encoded to Document wrapped. If this option has to be followed, what are all the factors taken to be account ?
2) Try to design the existing functionality using adapter and connect to it. (don't know whether this is possible as the deadlines are bit tight).

Unable to connect to mongod web service over LAN

I have mongod running on the standard port 27017. The web service is running on 28017, as I've verified I can access it from localhost. But I'm running the computer headless and would prefer to get it on another box.
Any attempt to connect to port 28017 by either ip or hostname results in a cannot connect error. Other web services running on the same box on non-standard ports are accessible. What am I missing?

Unable to connect mssql with shared services

I am getting error in config mssql with shared serives. I am trying to do with 9.3.1. I am getting the below error. Previously also I faced the same error but at that time I enabled the tcp./ip in sql manager..it works...but right now it is not working. can anyone face the same situation. The error I got was.

I forgot to mention that lookuos are succeeding. When I print the results of lookup operation, null is not getting printed. The application is failing at this statment

Unable to Connect to Human @ Customer Service

Post Hack, I called Customer Service to find another accomodation for the privacy breach because I already have Experian. As well, I cancelled a subscription to Send Now. Not only was the breach of privacy the day I subscribed but the format did not satisfy expectations.
Really disturbed by the lack of access to Customer Service by phone. I really wanted to discuss my cancellation. The confirmation of my subscription did not indicate a pro-rated refund. I needed to speak to a Customer Service person in order to get clarification on language in the notice received after cancellation..
The language in the reply to my cancellation implies that my full subscription price is forfeited with the cancellation of the subscription. I am not happy with that arrangement. This is not a consumer friendly resolution, especially in light of security failure on the very day of my decision to allow Adobe to hold my credit card data and related personal 411.

I'm currently install a second Grid Infrastructure in one server. The first one is a 11.2.0.1 and the second one is 11.2.0.3. on solaris 10. In the second installation I chose install grid infrastructure for standalone server. So, when a try to start the asm instance give me this errors:
SQL> startup mount
ORA-01078: failure in processing system parameters
ORA-29701: unable to connect to Cluster Synchronization ServiceWhen I execute the code above, the first ASM instance is shutdown and the another database.
I noticed that in the second installation the crsctl comman tool is not installed just crsctl.bin. All steps for installation went fine.
So, can you advise me what I have to do to solve this? some documentation or something? please.

Thanks onedbguru, the alert log file does not telling me nothing but i'll try with the /etc/init.d/init.ohasd.
In other words, i want to be able to start asm either 11.2.0.1 or 11.2.0.3. The second one starts without any problem, after i shutdown 11.2.0.3 asm and trying startup asm 11.2.0.1 but fails. I dont know what i am doing wrong.

Need some help from all out there
In our Sun Cluster 3.1 Data Service for Oracle RAC 9.2.0.7 (Solaris 9) configuration, my team had encountered
ora-29701 *Unable to connect to Cluster Manager*
during the startup of the Oracle RAC database instances on the Oracle RAC Server resources.
We tried the attached workaround by Oracle. This workaround works well for the 1^st time but it doesnt work anymore when the server is rebooted.
Kindly help me to check whether anyone encounter the same problem as the above and able to resolve. Thanks.

Problem statement:
ORA-29701 DURING DATABASE CREATION AFTER APPLYING 9.2.0.6 PATCHSET

PROBLEM:
Customer applied 9.2.0.6 patchset over 9.2.0.4 patchset.
While creating the database, customer receives following error:
ORA-29701: unable to connect to Cluster Manager
However, if customer goes from 9.2.0.4 -> 9.2.0.5 -> 9.2.0.6, the problem does not occur.
DIAGNOSTIC ANALYSIS:
It seems that the problem is with libskgxn9.so shared library.
For 9.2.0.4 -> 9.2.0.5 -> 9.2.0.6, the install log shows the following:

For 9.2.0.4 -> 9.2.0.6, install log shows:
installActions2005-03-22_04-13-03PM.log:, [libcmdll.so ->%ORACLE_HOME%/lib/libskgxn9.so 64274 plats=1=>[46] langs=-554696704=>[en]] does not exist.
This means that while patching from 9.2.0.4 -> 9.2.0.5, Installer copies the libcmdll.so library into libskgxn9.so, while patching from 9.2.0.4 -> 9.2.0.6 does not.
ORACM is located in /app/oracle/ORACM which is different than ORACLE_HOME in customer's environment.
WORKAROUND:
Customer is using the following workaround:
cd $ORACLE_HOME/rdbms/lib make -f ins_rdbms.mk rac_on ioracle ipc_udp

Thanks for the suggestion. I did not think this errors related to db versions/os versions.
It is Oracle 10.2.0.4 running in Sun OS 5.10 and its running in ASM/RAC environment.
Since I have limited access(APP DBA) I have raised the ticket to SYSDBA to look in to this issue with my inputs.
My Inputs:
It seems like ORA-29701 error is related to ASM(css daemon)/RAC and all the remaining error is due to that.
Case 1:
Run the following batch files in the $ORACLE_HOME/bin directory as root
localconfig delete
localconfig add
Case 2:
The CSSD daemon uses /tmp/.oracle directory to establish a local socket for communication with local clients such as RDBMS instances. So you might want to ensure this was not removed by accident.
Solution:
Reboot the node.
Unfortually, the location of /tmp/.oracle cannot be changed (at least for 10g RAC)
