ORA_FFI and complex datatypes

Hi all,
I must call a function from an API function in a dll file , and the documentation of the arguments of the function includes a "struct" datatype which is defined like this :
typedef struct {
unsigned long ulSize;
unsigned char RData[16];
} RSPE;
So how can I call the function in forms if one of the function arguments is of datatype RSPE ?
Thank you very much indeed.

Shay, thanks for your reply.
Is my interpretation of your advice correct?
1. I need to use Java to replace the Delphi dll to allow me to copy/paste the client clipboard to/from a file.
2. If the file is on the client then I will also need to use Java in place of text_io to read from the file.
3. Could I use Java to copy to/paste from the client clipboard to a server file. That way I would not need to change the text_io code?
Thanks

• Web Service Complex Datatypes

Does ColdFusion support nested complex data types when building Web Services? See example CFCs below. I keep getting a ServiceMethodNotFoundException. In my SubmitNoticeOfAppt.cfc, the cfargument data type is NoticeOfAppointment.CFC which references other CFCs that define complex data types. The complex types are needed to support a really complex XML document that must be NIEM (National Information Exchange Model) compliant. Originally tried passing the NIEM XML doument as a string, but receive deserialization errors, encounter child element. Could get around the error by wrapping the XML string in <![CDATA[ ... ]]>, but this convention is not NIEM compliant.

Coldfusion should be able to nest complex data types in your web service (after all, that's what the cfproperty tag was designed for). Unfortunately, I have more experience consuming complex web services than designing them in CF. My Recommendation - inspect your web service WSDL using a tool that will generate the sample SOAP XML that will be needed to consume your web service. You should be able to tell from that XML what the issue is - could be a missing namespace in your XML or strange nesting, etc.
We use SOAPSonar from Crosscheck networks - they have a feww personal version that will allow you to inspect your web service interface and it will even generate the sample XML needed to call it via SOAP.
Hope that helps.

• Charts and graph shown as --array and cluster datatype in block diagram

Hi friends,
I new user...
I have a basic doubt...
In many examples the graph and charts are shown as "array data type and cluster data type "------in the block diagram panel...
Please tell me, how these data types are shown as graph and charts in the front panel window.....
regards
raja

These are very basic issues and it should be clear once you study the online help and examples for a while.
Waveform Graphs
Plain waveform graphs assume equally spaced data. The x-values are implicit from x0 and dx of the x-axis. By default x0=0 and dx=1, meaning the x-values are the array indices. You can change the offset and multiplier from the properties dialog or programmatically via property nodes.
If you give a 2D array, there will be multiple graphs. Transpose if needed.
Alternatively, you can give a cluster of [x0, dx, y-array] and the x-axis will adjust accordingly.
As another alternative, you can built a waveform datatype and feed it to the graph.
You can also graph dynamic data.
XY graphs
xy graphs are needed if the x-vlaues are not regularly spaced. They take a variety of data formats, so pick what is most approriate for the data
A cluster of an x-array and a y-array
An array of clusters, each containing an xy pair
A complex datatype (it will graph imaginary vs. real or similar).
Charts
Charts are different, because they maintain a data history buffer an retain a certain amount of data. Some examples of data inputs:
A single scalar: it wil be appended to the existing chart data, possibly throwing out the oldest existing point.
An array: The array data will be appended to the existing chart data.
A cluster of e.g. 5 points: The chart will have 5 dividual plots, one point gets appended to each plot.
etc.
The express xy-graph can be configured as xy chart, etc.
Sure, it is a bit complicated at the beginning, but the complexity also gives you flexibility to do exactly what you want. Just play around with various scenarios and look at the outcome. The best way to learn!

• Complex datatype in Web Services

The work involved in handling complex datatype as part of the Web Services
(JDev 9.0.3) seems to be very complex and not very well documented. (as
far as I can tell).
Is there an easy way for a Java client to bypass the deserialization altogether
and just get the raw SOAP XML as returned from a Web Service.
From the Raw XML, we could use the regular parsing tools to do whatever
is necessary with the data. For example, I would like to transform the
XML returned by using a simple XSL transformation.
This would bypass the complexity of mapping all elements of an object that
I would not really use in Java anyway. (I would pass the result of the XSL
transformation to a 'C' program (yes I know it's ugly, but I still use 'C' for
processing data...)
I would really appreciate if anybody had experience in doing something like
that.
Thanks.

Hi Denis - I think I might have run into a similar prob. I have been able create and successfully test a web service as long as the input object types are Strings. When I try to do this with a complex data type it fails. "Complex" in this case means an object containing 2 string and 1 double (i.e. not a standard java.lang objects for which serializers are predefined).
Did you encounter the following error message?
[SOAPException: faultCode=SOAP-ENV:Client; msg=No Deserializer found to deserialize a 'http://IWidgetConsumer.xsd:Widget' using encoding style 'http://schemas.xmlsoap.org/soap/encoding/'. [java.lang.IllegalArgumentException]]

• Complex datatypes for webservices

Hello all,
Question from customer:
"...Its not possible to user webservices in htmldb, that user complex types for paramater or return.
Creation htmldb webservice formulars work only with literal soap data types. But soap xsd support complex types or arrays. Thus, we can not use htmldb for accessing such services. .."
If customer uses complex datatypes it appears a ora-20001.
Is there a way to use complex datatypes for webservices in htmldb or will it be included in a new release or patch?
thanks
Hendrik

Hi,
Did you solve this one?
I'm having the exact same problem, trying to communicate with Oracle Wireless webservices from htmldb,
which kind of made me dissapointed because they are both Oracle products! Basically what wireless wants is an array input and htmldb complains about this!
Any solutions?

• Difference between CHAR and VARCHAR2 datatype

Difference between CHAR and VARCHAR2 datatype
CHAR datatype
If you have an employee name column with size 10; ename CHAR(10) and If a column value 'JOHN' is inserted, 6 empty spaces will be inserted to the right of the value. If this was a VARCHAR column; ename VARCHAR2(10). How would it handle the column value 'JOHN' ?

The CHAR datatype stores fixed-length character strings, and Oracle compares CHAR values using blank-padded comparison semantics.
Where as the VARCHAR2 datatype stores variable-length character strings, and Oracle compares VARCHAR2 values using nonpadded comparison semantics.
This is important when comparing or joining on the columns having these datatypes;

• How to copy a table with LONG and CLOB datatype over a dblink?

Hi All,
I need to copy a table from an external database into a local one. Note that this table has both LONG and CLOB datatypes included.
I have taken 2 approaches to do this:
1. Use the CREATE TABLE AS....
SQL> create table XXXX_TEST as select * from XXXX_INDV_DOCS@ext_db;
create table XXXX_TEST as select * from XXXX_INDV_DOCS@ext_db
ERROR at line 1:
ORA-00997: illegal use of LONG datatype
2. After reading some threads I tried to use the COPY command:
SQL> COPY FROM xxxx/pass@ext_db TO xxxx/pass@target_db REPLACE XXXX_INDV_DOCS USING SELECT * FROM XXXX_INDV_DOCS;
Array fetch/bind size is 15. (arraysize is 15)
Will commit when done. (copycommit is 0)
Maximum long size is 80. (long is 80)
CPY-0012: Datatype cannot be copied
If my understanding is correct the 1st statement fails because there is a LONG datatype in XXXX_INDV_DOCS table and 2nd one fails because there is a CLOB datatype.
Is there a way to copy the entire table (all columns including both LONG and CLOB) over a dblink?
Would greatelly appriciate any workaround or ideas!
Regards,
Pawel.

Hi Nicolas,
There is a reason I am not using export/import:
- I would like to have a one-script solution for this problem (meaning execute one script on one machine)
- I am not able to make an SSH connection from the target DB to the local one (although the otherway it works fine) which means I cannot copy the dump file from target server to local one.
- with export/import I need to have an SSH connection on the target DB in order to issue the exp command...
Therefore, I am looking for a solution (or a workaround) which will work over a DBLINK.

Pawel.

• Oracle BPM / SOA Suite and Big and Complex Scenarios

Hi people,
I have worked for a company that in the past chose Oracle BPM (ALBPM at the time) and one of the big problems that the company had was in relation about big processes and complex scenarios.
This company is for the e-commerce area and our processes can have many instances at the same time, for example, a process to all the "order flow" can have thousands, maybe millions instances at the same time.
So we choose to abort the BPMS option in the past and now we back to talk again about BPMS and one question is always made by the company board: if we use BPM again, the new versions can be support all the our volume data?
To be honestly, I don't have this answer so I like to know if any people here has a paper or report about Oracle BPM 11g and big scenarios with many instances. If anybody has a case too, it will be relevant.
Another and the final question: how does the oracle bpm engine treats the case when my engine reboots and before that the engine had many instances active? The istances will be lost?

11g ADF is not certified with 10g SOA Suite. What I mean by this is that your 11g ADF will need to run on WLS 10.3.1 and SOA Suite 10g will eith run on oc4j or WLS 9.2.
ADF is just JDeveloper, you deploy to WLS 11g (10.3.1).
This is the most detailed 10g SOA Suite guide I know for 10g
http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/E10291_01/core.1013/e10294/toc.htm
note that it is for 10.1.3.3, you just need to subsitute for 10.1.3.5 (latest release)

• Export and Import Of Tables having BLOB and Raw datatype

Hi Gurus,
I had to export one schema in one database and import to another schema in another database.
However my current database contains raw and blob datatype.I have exported the whole database by the following commnad
exp SYSTEM/manager FULL=y FILE=jbrms_full_19APR2013.dmp log=jbrms_full_19APR2013.log GRANTS=y ROWS=y

You could see the 'QUESTIONABLE STATISTICS' warning for a couple of reasons. I don't remember them all but.
1. If the target and source character set is different.
2. system generated names (I think?)
the best solution if you don't need the exact statistics that are on your source database would be to add
statistics=none
to your imp command and then regather statistics when the imp command is done.

• How we handle CLOB and BLOB Datatypes in HANA DB

Dear HANA Gurus,
We have would like to build EDW using HANA base on our source system Oracle and it's supports CLOB and BLOB datatypes
Would you please suggest how do we handle in HANA DB.
Let not say it's oracle specific.
Regards,
Manoj

Hello,
check SAP HANA SQL Reference Guide for list of data types:
(page 14 - Classification of Data Types)
https://service.sap.com/~sapidb/011000358700000604922011
For this purpose might be useful following data types:
Large Object (LOB) Types
LOB (large objects) data types, CLOB, NCLOB and BLOB, are used to store a large amount of data such as text documents and images. The maximum size of an LOB is 2 GB.
BLOB
The BLOB data type is used to store large binary data.
CLOB
The CLOB data type is used to store large ASCII character data.
NCLOB
The NCLOB data type is used to store a large Unicode character object.

• Many pages and complex data model in JHS app

I am using JHS to create an application containing data that is structured something like:
- Country
- Company
- Department
- Employee
- Payments Details
I have created entity and view objects corresponding to each of these and the appropriate accessors/view links. We need the user to be able to search, work on data and 'drill down' from any level (not always starting with company). In order to make this possible my JHS application has 5 'top level' tabs corresponding to each of the above entities. From each of these top level pages users can drill down to the children.
This works but we end up with many pages and a large data model with lots of replication and nesting.
Country - 5 pages
Company - 4 pages
Department - 3 pages
Employee - 2 pages
Payments - 1 page
total 15
You can picture how the data model is structured. Obviously this is a very simple example but I hope it illustrates my concerns. We have so many pages that post-generation changes are going to be difficult to manage. I'm also worried about the size and complexity of the data model. In this case views are almost all entity based so I guess the data is only cached once but supposing they were not?
Are we using JHS in the best way ? perhaps I'm overcompilcating it ?
I have started to rewrite the JHS generated application so that it (almost) always reuses the same top level generated pages (with some modifications). When the user wants to navigate to a child I modify the whereClause of the target ViewOjbect appropriately, reexecute it and forward to the corresponding 'top level' page. This approach seems to work well, cuts down the number of pages enormously and simplifies the data model (and has enabled me to put breadCrumbs in).
In doing this though, am I creating work for myself that JSH could have done if we had used it differently in the fist place?

This sounds like a valid approach in your situation. We have been playing with the idea of having something like 'Group Links' where you can generate navigation items from one group to the other. Then, you would need to have one, 5 level deep nested group, and 4 other top level groups to provide the search&select on each of the nested groups, but they themselves would not need to have nested groups, but a navigation link to the nested groups in the 5-level deep group.
Although nice and simple in theory, the details are a bit tricky to work out with all the possible layout- and samePage settings, so we have not implemented this yet. So your approach seems a valid one. If you have any suggestions on a way to generate what you are now doing manually, we'll be interested.
Kind regards,

Can anyone let me know the difference between

Complex Event Processing->http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E21764_01/doc.1111/e14476/overview.htm#g1024628
Are these 2 same?
Thanks

Hi.
Complex Event Processing Server(CEP) is an entire Product.
Business Event/Event Delivery Network is just a Messaging/Event component part of the SOA Infrastructure.
So, if u r interested on event correlation from different sources, high performance on analyzing those events + operations among the data generated on those events, CEP is ur option.
Hope this helps
