Oracle 10g client installation skips

Hi,
I have Oracle 11g database home in my 64 bit Windows 7 machine. However, now i would like to install Oracle 10.2.0 client as well. I tried giving a separate location. But for some reason, whenever i start the Setup and run the Administrator Type, the installation just skips without giving any errors. It just creates the inventory folder in the specified path.
It goes to the Product-Specific Prerequisite Checks and exits without giving any warnings or errors.
Can someone suggest what should be done here?
Regards,
Namrata

I am trying to perform the installation of Oracle 10g client installation on OpenVMS 8.3 Itanium. I am getting the OUI (Oracle Universal Installer) window up and as soon as I click the "next" button it errors. The error is:

The disk for the oracle installation temp location and home location are in different directories on the same ODS-5 formated disk. The disk has approximately 251711296 free blocks.

Has anyone seen this issue with installation of the client on a large disk?
Are there any suggestions on what to do to correct this issue?

SEVERE: OUI-10207:There is not enough disk space. This error may be present at the Open VMS Itanium platform at it is due to bug 5981203 "OUI CALCULATES AVAILABLE DISK SPACE WRONG" and bug 5580279 "OUI FAILS WITH OUI-10207 ERROR". It is fixed in 10.2.0.3.0

    Hello,
are you trying to install the client by some other user which is not owner of oracle:dba group?
this will genrally happen when you have different owner or manually changed the permissions.
Please check your /tmp directory for any files releated to ora:DBA may have a soft link check permissions thier.

  • TNS configuration needs ocijdbc11.dll : I want to use Oracle 10g client

    I configured apex-config.xml to use a TNSNAME. I deployed the APEX listener in a standalone OC4J 10.1.3.5.
It asks for ocijdbc11.dll to be in -Djava.library.path.
This means an Oracle 11g client is required. Why isn't it possible to use an Oracle 10g client installation? Is there a way to use an Oracle 10g installation in combination with the OC4J APEX listener?
I do'n't want to use the "thin" methode because this cannot be used in an Oracle RAC environment as far as I know (at least not with failover).

    Hello,
as far as I know, you can use the thin driver to connect to RAC. If I don't remember this wrong, you should be able to configure the URL like this:
    jdbc:oracle:thin:@(DESCRIPTION=(LOAD_BALANCE=on)
    (ADDRESS=(PROTOCOL=TCP)(HOST=host1) (PORT=1521))
    (ADDRESS=(PROTOCOL=TCP)(HOST=host2) (PORT=1521))
(CONNECT_DATA=(SERVICE_NAME=service)))Just my personal opinion: If you want to use a "fat" client, it shouldn't be too hard to install a 11g client. Of course, this will require additional space on your app server, but I like the thought that Oracle tries to keep the APEX Listener a lightweight application that works pretty good for most scenarios. If you try to make it compatible with every option and every version, this wouldn't stay that way.

  • Apply 5699495 w/ Silent installation Oracle 10g client

    Good Afternoon,
I have my silent installation of Oracle 10g Administrator Installation working great w/ response file, now I am having an issue with integrating this patch (5699495) into the initial install. I read the README file but it says to just drop the files in the appropriate folder, I want to do it during the install with no user interaction
Any comments or suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

I'd suggest creating a batch file to do the unzip and copy operations.
In the batch file you can call the install first and then do the patch. This way anyone who needs to do the install can just double-click the batch file.
We do a similar thing with an install and then creating a TNS_ADMIN area outside the ORACLE_HOME

  • (again) oracle 10g client and oracle 10g express in one computer

hi again, sorry if this question looks like a double post to you.
Well this is quite embarassing yet still make some headache for me. I have my office PC installed with Oracle 10g client using admin component option, for connecting some application with database on remote server. Now, after I have developed some basic map using Oracle 10g Express on my home PC, I want to test it in my office network. But everytime I tried to install Oracle Express, it web interface will working normally while all other aplication can no longer connected with remote server from the client. If I remove Oracle Express, all client connection will working again as if nothing happened. I already created Microsoft LoopBack connection using IP 10.10.10.10, edit TNSNAMES.ORA, etc that could possibly helpful but nothing fixed. Strangely, if I install Oracle 10g Database version, all connection to remote server working again, and map application also working. But this kind of installation takes up all my PC resources (grrrr!). Any more suggestion?
    best regards
    net2surfin

I'm sorry if the information not accurate, but the client connection made by application which try to connect is simply "not resolved" and show no error code/number at all. I'll try to connect from sqlplus though, maybe the error number will be known from this way.
About 10.10.10.10 tcp loopback, I got this work around from here: http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/B19306_01/install.102/b14316/reqs.htm#BABGCEAI
in the Ora Database Preinstallation requirement, where it states like this:
+16.In the Properties dialog box, click Use the following IP address and do the following:+
a.IP Address: Enter a non-routable IP for the loopback adapter. Oracle recommends the following non-routable addresses:
    +■192.168.x.x (x is any value between 0 and 255)+
+■10.10.10.10+ <---- this is the value suggested that I've been used in my home PC
    b.Subnet mask: Enter 255.255.255.0.
c.Record the values you entered, which you will need later in this procedure.
    d.Leave all other fields empty.
    e.Click OK.
I'll try to remove the loopback later and see the ORA environment, to see the result. In the mean time, all suggestions is highly appreciated.
    thank you n best regards

  • Install Oracle 9i client on a computer with Oracle 10g Client

    Hello all!!
I'm using a computer with Oracle 10g client, and I access two databases. One server has Oracle 10g server, and the other server has Oracle 9i server.
I want to install 9i client, to have it also in my computer. I haver read that I just have to install it in a different ORACLE_HOME, but I have a doubt.
If I install 9i client, would I be able to use the utilities, (exp, expddp, sqlldr) of both versions, or which version will be used in the command line for the utilities.
    Thanks a lot!!!

To start with, Home Selector is a "9i thing" (and older), in 10g there's the OUI -> Installed Products... -> Environment tab instead.
About the 9i dbca with other Oracle products installed. If you use launch.exe to start via dbca start menu shortcut, it uses ora92\assistants\dbca as working directory ("start from"). So when not looking for "numbered dlls" like oracore9.dll, a later/different version will be loaded if earlier in path, since loading goes through jre directories, ora92\assistants\dbca, then the dir's from path variable. From there it may start to link in libraries from different homes (on my laptop, "launch.exe dbca" uses files from 2 additional home paths!)
But, if you instead use dbca.bat started from ora92\bin, it will look in the right directories first and there's no dll mess-up. (But only when using the correct cwd!)
Plain and simple: stay very far away from multiple-general-home installs. It is possible to install allright, in different homes and all very nicely, but there will be pain when you decide to use the stuff (perhaps with sql*plus as the only exception, but I've run into bugs with that too).

  • Oracle 10g Client

We are having difficulty getting the Oracle 10g client working for some users. The client installs fine, and works when we are logged in as an administrator, but not as the normal users.
The Oracle Client and our applications are installed on a Citrix Metaframe server (thin client server) running Windows 2003 Server. We install the Oracle client (10.2.0.1.0) on the C: drive, which is hidden from the end users. We then grant permissions to the Oracle directory on the C: drive for them to access the oracle client.
After we install, grant permissions, check environment variables and registry settings, we run Sql Plus to check that we can connect to the database. This all works fine when logged in as an admin ( as do our applications ). But when we try to run SqlPlus as a normal user, we get the login screen, and as soon as we try to connect, the program crashes.
If I run a batch file to try to login to the dos version of SqlPlus, I receive the error:
SP2-1503: Unable to initialize Oracle call interface
SP2-0152: ORACLE may not be functioning properly
I have only found a couple of references to these errors, suggesting that the ORACLE_HOME path must not contain a \ backslash at the end of the path. But this is not the problem.
I even tried refreshing permissions to the registry itself, but that didn't help. I'm really not sure at what point the client is not working, so I'm having trouble debugging.
    Any suggestions?

We have run across this problem as well and granting 'Create Global Objects' solves it. However, our Windows administrators are resisting implementing it on production servers, saying it's potential security risk.
Has anyone run across this resistance in their shops and been able to overcome it? I can't find any good documentation that will allay the fears of the Windows groups. Their resisting this change is holding up a project.
    Thanks,
    Paul

  • Can't uninstall Oracle 10g client

Wow. I'm not sure this experience could have been any more frustrating. Now I can't uninstall oracle 10g client...
Some of the components you selected cannot be deinstalled because they are installed using Installer version 10.2.0.1.0. Please use Installer version 10.2.0.1.0 or higher
WHAT? Where do I find this new installer? I just want to revert back to 9i client so that hopefully my oledb connections to my oracle database will work again.
UPDATE: Okay. I managed to uninstall Oracle 10g client. It didn't solve my problem :(
    I still get this error...
ORA-12705: Cannot access NLS data files or invalid environment specified
I just want to pretend like this whole upgrade episode never happened. What a nightmare.

I just had to click on the same setup.exe icon i used to install it. i didn't realize there was an uninstall option in the setup application.
As far as the error is concerned. When I installed 10g it set one of the registry values for 9i to "NA". Once I changed that registry value back to what it was it worked again. I guess Oracle changes the registry value of old installations in order to ensure they are not active anymore. Since I wanted a side-by-side installation of 10g and 9i I didn't want 9i deactivated. Everything is working fine now.

  • Installing oracle 10g client

    maybe this question seem silly.
but I am using ODP to access oracle 10.1.0.2 and i want to know how to access database from client to the database server throw ODP.
And asking is there version called oracle 10g client should i install before install ODP or ODP that i download it is enough? and if it is enough how i can configure it to access server?

    That's from ODP.NET FAQ:
Oracle9i Client Release 2 (9.2) or higher (included with ODP.NET installation)
Althought the statement is for 9i, it remains true for 10g, ODP.NET has the necessary Oracle client components included.
