Oracle 10g connect too sloooooowly in server.
I install Oracle 10g in a HP Server, have a question to ask:
I use SQLPlus to connect Oracle from server, it need about 30 seconds.
When I connect Oracle from client, it only need about 1 second.
Why???
Hi,
if it is a SQL Plus problem, I would try this question on the database forum.

Asif,
IMO, the OP wanted to have steps given to him for the database creation , not the installation of the software.Not sure though since the wording chosen by him is not very clear.
@OP,
If you are looking for the database creation steps , the best would be to use DBCA! Other than that, you may want to look at the manual way of doing the same, given over here.
http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/B19306_01/server.102/b14231/create.htm#i1017640
That said, if you were looking for the installation instructions, please look at the link given by Asif.

Oracle 10g R2 on Windows 2008 Server
Hi all,
Can I install Oracle 10g Release 2 on Windows Server 2008 64-bit? If not, is there any workaround solution? Our brand new server was shipped with Windows Server 2008 CD and we cannot install Windows 2003 on that machine.
Thanks in advance.Please note that AS 10g R2 is not certified on Windows 2008, as per:
Oracle Application Server 10g Release 2 (10.1.2.0.2) Certification Information
[http://www.oracle.com/technology/software/products/ias/files/as_certification_r2_101202.html]
All certifications are posted here:
http://www.oracle.com/technology/software/products/ias/files/fusion_certification.html
Version 10.1.3 is certified on Windows 2008 and 2008 R2, noting that this is not an upgrade from 10.1.2. It provides a different suite of products. You can decide on 10.1.2 verses 10.1.3 depending on your needs. For all product offerings, the Oracle Fusion Middleware 11g (11.1.1.) is certified on 2008 and 2008 R2. -

Unable to connect Oracle 10g Express from Visual Studio Server Explorer
Hello,
Please help me out here. I am connecting from Visual Studio 2008 to Oracle 10g Express Edition and the I have installed the ODAC 11 and the ODP.NET as well for Visual Studio(Both include Oracle Developer tools). But whenever I tried to connect from my Visual Studio 2008 server explorer so that I can have the database and its object there, I do get this error : "ORA-12560 : TNS: protocol adapter error."
The following is what I specified in my connection box:
DataSource Name: (Local Database)
Username : HR
Password: the password for it.
My OS is : Windows Vista Ultimate.
Please anyone who has solved such error should just help out here.
Thanks allThank you for your reply. I will like to know if you can use Visual Studio. In visual studio there is what we called Server Explorer and from there you can create connection and access all the database server from there. I am able to connect to the Oracle XE through the browser and I was able to crete table and other stuffs like that but when I tried to connect from Visual Studio 2008, I get the 12560 Error. I checked my TNSNAMES and found this:
XE =
(DESCRIPTION =
(ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = TCP)(HOST = OLAMMIE)(PORT = 1521))
(CONNECT_DATA =
(SERVER = DEDICATED)
(SERVICE_NAME = XE)
EXTPROC_CONNECTION_DATA =
(DESCRIPTION =
(ADDRESS_LIST =
(ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = IPC)(KEY = EXTPROC_FOR_XE))
(CONNECT_DATA =
(SID = PLSExtProc)
(PRESENTATION = RO)
ORACLR_CONNECTION_DATA =
(DESCRIPTION =
(ADDRESS_LIST =
(ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = IPC)(KEY = EXTPROC_FOR_XE))
(CONNECT_DATA =
(SID = CLRExtProc)
(PRESENTATION = RO)
Look at what I have in my Sqlnet.Ora file,
# This file is actually generated by netca. But if customers choose to
# install "Software Only", this file wont exist and without the native
# authentication, they will not be able to connect to the database on NT.
SQLNET.AUTHENTICATION_SERVICES = (NTS)
Please kindly help me out of this as it is very urgent. I can connect from browser using http://127.0.0.1:8080/apex but cannot connect from my C# code and Server Explorer. What is likely to cause this error.
Thank you for helping me in advance. -
Connect Oracle 10g and OWB to SQL Server 2005 in Windows XP
I am unable to create a working connection between Oracle 10g and a SQL Server database. I have followed the instructions in several sources, but when I attempt to connect to the MSSQL database through SQL Plus or SQL Developer, I get the ORA-03135 error. I set up a non-Oracle location in OWB and the connection test was successful but the metadata would not import. Creating an Oracle location with the same parameters produced the ORA-03135 error.
In TNSNAMES.ORA I placed the following definition:
MSSQL =
(DESCRIPTION =
(ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = TCP)(HOST = wgilt1.hsd1.nj.comcast.net)(PORT = 1521))
(CONNECT_DATA =
(SERVER = DEDICATED)
(SERVICE_NAME = MSSQL)
(HS = OK)
In LISTENER.ORA I placed the following in the SID_LIST_LISTENER:
(SID_DESC =
(SID_NAME = MSSQL)
(ORACLE_HOME = C:\oracle\product\10.2.0\db_2)
(PROGRAM = hsodbc)
The inimssql.ora file contains the following:
HS_FDS_CONNECT_INFO = MSSQL
HS_DB_NAME = MSSQL
HS_FDS_TRACE_LEVEL = ON
HS_FDS_TRACE_FILE_NAME = c:\hs_fds_mssql.log
What is missing?could be a copy paste issue, but please make sure the tnsnames.ora has at least on space in from of each line after the alias.
In addition what is the listener status? Please post the output of lsnrctl status <listener name>.
Need to know also the output of: C:\oracle\product\10.2.0\db_2\bin\hsodbc -

Oracle 10g connectivity with sql server 2000 through oracle transpa gateway
dear gurus.
i am to connecto oracle 10g with sql server 2000 through oracle transparent gateway.
i have installed transparent gateway and proper configured. also link is created.
but when i execute query "select * from city@inventory" , so an error displayed.
ORA-12500: TNS:listener failed to start a dedicated server process.
kindly suggest me what could be the cause.
regards,if the listener fails to spawn a dedicated server process it is commonly indicating an issue with the listener. So posting the listener and also a listener trace including a description of the env where you installed the gateway into which directory would be helpfull. Please keep also in mind if you have for example a 10.2.0.3 database and you install into this directoty a 10.2.0.1 gateway you have to reapply the patchset again do get consistent file version.
So please describe more detailed your env. -

Oracle error ORA-00600 when using Oracle 10g and Sun One Web Server 6.1
I have a java application that was running under Solaris 8 and Oracle 9i. I am trying to get it up and running on a new server that is configured with Solaris 9 and Oracle 10g. Whenever the application tries to connect to the database it receives the following error: ORA-00600 [ttcgcshnd-1][0]. My research indicates that this is an internal Oracle error that represents a low level unexpected condition. I have looked through my configuration for the Web Server and I have not been able to determine the cause of this problem. My DBA tells me that we have the latest patch installed for Oracle! Has anyone encountered this problem before? Any help would be greatly appreciated!
If the problem is also present in a SWING app, i.e. outside the web server, then it is porbably something external to the webserver.
I think you should ensure that the driver and database are compatible with each other. It is very likely that you need a new jdbc driver for the new database.
download from here http://www.oracle.com/technology/software/tech/java/sqlj_jdbc/htdocs/jdbc101020.html
try the ojdbc14.jar
