Dear Team,
We have to perform the following tests on the DR server.
1. change the Physical standby database to read only from managed recovery
2. query the tables and records count
3. record all the count
4. Put physical standby back to managed recovery.
5. confirm that the changes are updated.
could you please guide us to perform the above activities.
THanks in advance

  • Oracle 10g Logical Standby

    The question is on Oracle 10g Logical Standby Data Guard. Below is the short description of what we wanted to do.
    We currently run our Remedy application on Oracle10g. We wanted to setup Data Guard (logical standby) so we can perform our application upgrade on the logical standby. While we upgrade our application, our customers perform the dml on the primary instance.
    During the upgrade, we will change the ddl on our application in the logical standby instance. After the application upgrade, we do a role switch between the two instances (primary became a new logical standby and logical standby became new primary). Now, we wanted the data or the dml that our customers perform on the old primary replicate over to the new primary.
    It is possible for the logical standby to perform the ddl at the same time user perform the ddl and dml on the primary instance?
    After role switch between the two instances, is the data changed on the primary replicate over to the new primary?
    Thank you for your helps.

    Hi Shital,
    Guard_status protects the data from being changed.
    ALL- By default it is not possible for a non-privileged user to modify data on a data guard SQL apply database. This is because the database guard is automatically set to ALL.
    With this level of security, only SYS user can modify the data.
    STANDBY- When you set this level of security, users are able to modify data that is not maintained by the Logical apply engine.
    NONE permits any users to access the standby database as long as they have correct privileges. This is the normal security for all data in the database.
    You can change the guard status value from ALL to NONE in order to allow non-privileged users to modify data and Yes you can create user and extra tablespace in logical standby database..this is what the one of advantage of using Logical standby database.
    SQL> ALTER DATABASE GUARD NONE;
    Thanks

  • ORACLE 10G RAC+STANDBY server

    We have a ORACLE RAC 10G based on 2 nodes with 1 disk array for test purposes.
    Now, we want to connect a standby server to RAC with its own disk array. Standby server with array will be located in another city.
    How can we realize it?

    Hi friend,
    We have tested with the following : we have 1og RAC (10.2.0.3.0) with Single Physical Standby database :
    RAC Database :
    bash-3.00$ export ORACLE_SID=racdb
    bash-3.00$ rman target sys/sysracdb@racdb
    RMAN> connect catalog rman/rman@racdb
    RMAN> backup device type disk format '/backup/rman/%U' database plus archivelog;
    RMAN> backup device type disk format '/backup/rman/%U' current controlfile for standby;
    Note : Transfer the backup to the standby database location.
    Single Instance Database
    SQL> create spfile from pfile='/oracle/admin/stdby/pfile/initstdby.ora';
    SQL> shutdown immediate;
    SQL> startup nomount;
    [oracle@linux7 pfile]$ rman target sys/sysracdb@racdb auxiliary=sys/sysracdb
    RMAN> duplicate target database for standby;
    Note : It will restore....
    bash-3.00$ export ORACLE_SID=stdby
    bash-3.00$ export ORACLE_HOME=/oracle/product/10.2.0/db_1

  • 10g Physical Standby to be used for Backup through RMAN

    Dear All,
    I have 10g Database Primary and Standby Server which is operating in Maximum Performance Mode. I want to use Standby Database for performing Weekly Full and Daily Incremental Backups through RMAN. Kindly inform me is it possible, if yes how should I configure it. I will also be using Compression and Encryption while performing backups.
    Best Regards,
    Asif

    Yes, that is possible.
    Because the standby databases are in mount mode, they can be accessed through the SYS account .
    I use the following RMAN script for the same purpose. Please note that we have configure the flashback area, so we are not letting RMAN delete the archive files:
    run {
    sql 'alter system archive log current';
    sql 'alter system archive log current';
    allocate channel ch1 type 'sbt_tape' parms 'ENV=(TDPO_OPTFILE=/usr/tivoli/tsm/client/oracle/bin64/tdpo.opt)';
    backup
    incremental level 0
    tag full_bk_db_webshop
    format 'df_%d_t%t_s%s_p%p'
    (database include current controlfile);
    backup archivelog all;
    This script is for a FULL backup ( level 0 ). You could also use the "backup full" command
    You can easily change the level of the Backup for incremental purposes.
    Starting RMAN - if configured correctly - is the same as with an open database
    export ORACLE_SID=<STDBYSID>
    rman target / rcvcat <rman/rman>@<catalogsid>
    the user for, and the catalogsid are merely examples

  • Is drop user cascade DDL statement will be reflected in physical standby DB

    Hi,
    Oracle 10G
    Physical standby database
    When issuing drop user cascade in Primary DB , Will the same be reflected in physical standby ? or there is any exceptions of applying DDLs and DMLs ?
    Thank you in advance,
    Mohamed

    Will the same be reflected in physical standby ?
    Yes.
    or there is any exceptions of applying DDLs and DML
    No, not in a physical standby.
    You do some exceptions in a logical standby.

  • GG on Physical Standby database

    Hi All,
    Could anyone please let me know whether we can create extract of physical standby database Archive logs? This is oracle 9i physical standby database and I want to configure the primary extracts on standby database instead of primary production database. Also please consider that this standby database is always in recovery mode in mount stage. Is this possible?
    Thanks in Advance.
    Raghav

    Run a test by creating an extract that creates an ASCII file. It's simple, you don't need to have a replicat or data pump. If you can read the ORLs of the standby, you'll pick up the statements from the redo apply. The problem, though, is that the physical standby is mounted, so any connections/queries requiring access to fixed tables is going to fail. Also, what DBLOGIN can be used to add trandata for a table?

  • Oracle 11g Logical Standby not Replicating Security?

    Hello,
    I found that our Oracle 11g logical standby database stopped replicating security commands anymore since it was created as a Oracle 11g database. The security commands are related to users, roles and profiles such as create/alter/drop user, etc. The 11g logical standby database has no problem replicating other commands. Is this normal change with Oracle 11g logical standby? I know Oracle 10g logical standby can replicate those commands. The Oracle 11g logical standby was created the same way as Oracle 10g logical standby. We don't skip security commands on purpose. Anyone who got Oracle 11g logical standby has the same issue? We would like logical standby database to be able to replicate security. If it is normal for Oracle 11g logical standby to stop replicating security, is there a way to make Oracle 11g logical standby still replicates security?
    Thanks!

    had you started apply using this syntax
    real time apply
    alter database start logical standby apply immediate;
    check lag:
    alter session set nls_date_format='dd/mm hh24:mi';
    select newest_time || chr(22)|| newest_scn||chr(10)||applied_time||chr(22)||applied_scn||chr(13)||chr(16)||(newest_scn-applied_scn) lag from dba_logstdby_progress

  • Help with Oracle 10G on Solaris 9

    This is a question that belongs to Oracle forum since I am only a Unix Administrator but work closely with some DBA's. I am installing Oracle Companion CD 10G on Solaris 9. The Oracle 10G software, I was able to install successfully in the past. The DBA's asked me to also install the companion CD for some added features.
    Currently, the system is running Oracle 9i on Solaris 9. I installed Oracle 10G on this test environment. I have ensured to change the .profile entries in Oracle 9i and use the Oracle 10G profile so they dont overwrite one another. I have also made sure not to overwrite any files such as "oraenv" etc during the install. The install of Oracle 10G was successful. The dba's that I am trying to help out asked me if I could also install Oracle 10G companion CD 64 bit version.
    I tried to install it by placing the path to Oracle 10G
    But when the prerequisites started, I got the following:
    "Oracle OHS Standalone can not be installed into an existing Oracle RDBMS 9.2.0.1.0 or higher Oracle home."
    Now I know that at that time, I had all the Oracle instances down on 9i so it wont interfere with 10G but why is it still seeing 9.2.??? What can I do to bypass this message so I can install the Companion CD? Any suggestions would be appreciated.

  • Physical Standby database Oracle 10g Standard Edition

    Hello,
    I open a new question about testing a standby database a because of this:
    I realize that my standby database is 10g Standard and not Enterprise and not 11g.
    Because for testing we plan to modify data on Standby, we are looking for some way to restore Standby to the point before testing.
    So, I can't use Flashback Recovery Area for restoring my database to a certain point after testing.
    In this scenario, the only way that I think is:
    On Standby
    - Shutdown database
    - Copy by O/S all datafiles, temp files, control files and redo logs. That will be my backup before testing.
    - Open database, test and modify data
    - When test is finished, shutdown database
    - Copy and replace by O/S all datafiles, temp files, control files and redo logs from backup place
    - Open database as standby and apply all archived redo logs needed.
    Would be it work without problem or should I copy other files?

    it comes under Refresh of database, use --> cleanup --> restore.
    If its enterprise edition , you can use procedure mentioned in this note How To Open Physical Standby For Read Write Testing and Flashback [ID 805438.1]

  • Question-Recovering tablespace in physical Standby...Oracle 10g?

    Hello:
    I have an interesting issue. I thought I will ask the group.
    I have a physical standby database in 10g. Once of the datafile is in inconsistent state due to a crashed DB during recovery from the last time around.
    I do not have any archivelogs, either on standby or primary .. Unfortunately.
    However, the primary database is alive and well.
    How do I recover my datafile selectively? Is a complete restore/recreation of the standby is the only option?
    Any ideas?
    Thanks in advance.

    Best Regards,
    Muhammad Shakeel AzeemAzeem,
    Welcome to OTN,
    Once you performed switchover, You need to perform changes with some parameters from standby FAL_SERVER
    Earlier this parameter points to old primary, Now after switchover you have to put service name of new primary database service.
    Also Make changes with remote destinations log_archive_dest_n with correct service names.
    Refer this manual to work with multiple standby databases.
