    Hi to All Respected Gurus!
    I am unable to access enterprise manager. When I enter https://10.0.2.106:1158/em, it gives me a window with following messages
    Database Instance = Down, Host = 10.0.2.106, Port = 1521, SID = fgfc, Oracle Home= D:\app\Administrator\product\11.1.0\db1_
    Listener = UP
    Agent Connection to Instance = Down, Status = Failed, Details = ORA-28001: the password has expired (DBD ERROR: OCISessionBegin)
    Please help me in this regard. Thanks in advance for your as usual cooperation.

    Your DBSNMP password has changed or the DBSNMP has a (default) profile that forces you to change the password every xx days. I think the last is the case.
    You could create a new profile with a password_life_time unlimited for the user DBSNMP or change in the default profile the password_life_time to unlimited (if security rules permit to do so).
    Also see MOS note (for Grid Control): Grid Control Shows DBSNMP Account Locked ORA-28000 Or Agent Connection to Instance Failed ORA-28001 Password Expired From Database Home Page [ID 352585.1]
    and https://communities.netapp.com/community/netapp-blogs/databases/blog/2011/08/10/oracle-11g--password-expires how you can create a new profile or change the default profile.
    If the DBSNMP account gets locked you can unlock it by: alter user dbsnmp account unlock;

  • Oracle 11g x64 packages are not being downloaded completetly, why?

    Hi geeks, I was trying to download Oracle 11G releases to run on my Win7x64 but the packages are downloading up to 327Mb and stop. Off course WinRar says file is corrupt if I try to open them.
    But I have earlier downloads for Win7x32, will it run on 64 bit machine if I install them?

    Try downloading with a different browser, or with a different ISP, or with a download manager

  • New user created in oracle 11g (release 2) is not connecting (ORA-01017)

    Hi All,
    Kindly help me out regarding this.
    I have created a new user using "ORACLE Enterprise Manager 11g" and used the same credentials in SQL developer for a new connection and it throw "ORA-01017: invalid username/password; logon denied" message.
    Kindly note that have followed the following steps in creating user:
    On the Users page, click Create.
    In the Name field, enter NICK.
    In the Profile list, accept the value DEFAULT.
    This setting assigns the default password policy to user Nick.
    In the Enter Password and Confirm Password fields, enter a password that is secure.
    Create a password that is secure. See Oracle Database Security Guide for more information.
    Do not select Expire password now. If the account status is set to expired, then the user or the database administrator must change the password before the user can log in to the database.
    (Optional) Next to the Default Tablespace field, click the flashlight icon, select the USERS tablespace, and then click Select.
    All schema objects that Nick creates will then be created in the USERS tablespace unless he specifies otherwise. If you leave the Default Tablespace field blank, Nick is assigned the default tablespace for the database, which is USERS in a newly installed database. For more information about the USERS tablespace, see "About Tablespaces".
    (Optional) Next to the Temporary Tablespace field, click the flashlight icon, select the TEMP tablespace, and then click Select.
    For the Status option, accept the default selection of Unlocked.
    You can later lock the user account to prevent users from logging in with it. To temporarily deny access to a user account, locking the user account is preferable to deleting it, because deleting it also deletes all schema objects owned by the user.
    Grant roles, system privileges, and object privileges to the user, as described in "Example: Granting Privileges and Roles to a User Account".
    Note: Do not click OK in Step 13 of "Example: Granting Privileges and Roles to a User Account". Instead, skip that step and continue with Step 12 in this procedure.
    Assign a 10 MB quota on the USERS tablespace, as described in "Example: Assigning a Tablespace Quota to a User Account".
    If you did not click OK while assigning the tablespace quota (previous step), click OK now to create the user.Kindly note that I have log in as SYSTEM user and created this new user.
    Could any one help me regarding this ?

    After connecting with sqlplus, as user SYSTEM and when tried the below, I could see that the new user created by me does not exist..
    select '--' || username || '--'
    from dba_users
    order by username;
    But when tried with GUI "ORACLE Enterprise Manager 11g" I can very well see the new user created by me..
    How is this possible mate??
    Is the user not properly created through GUI (than from where it is showing the new user)
    Some more information i want to share;
    i have used schema "HR"
    And have used table space "USERS"
    And tep tablespace "TEMP"

  • ORACLE 11G  "real time apply" not work?????

    we have a database original on ORACLE 10.2.0.4 and we upgrade it to 11.1.0.7.
    after that we create standby database and tried to use "real time apply" feature.
    Primary database can transfer log files to standby database and standby database also can apply logs. The problem is it can NOT work on "real time apply".
    Ant ideal what wrong?

    *.log_archive_format='DBPMY_%r_%t_%s.arc'
    log_archive_dest_state_1 = enable
    log_archive_dest_state_2 = enable

    There are a couple of things to look at.
    1. Real time apply requires standby redo logs on the standby database. On the standby database run this query:
    SELECT * FROM v$logfile where type = 'STANDBY';
    if you get 0 rows back you'll need to create standby logfiles
    The general guideline is to size them exactly like your redo logs but add one additional standby log to ensure it doesn't cause a bottleneck.
    2. Get the size of your logfiles:
    SELECT GROUP#, BYTES FROM V$LOG;
    3. For example if you have 3 redo logs that are 50 MB in size, create 4 standby redo logs 50 MB each and don't multiplex them.
    ALTER DATABASE ADD STANDBY LOGFILE ('/Archive/DBSBY/onlinelog/slog1.rdo') SIZE 50M;
    ALTER DATABASE ADD STANDBY LOGFILE ('/Archive/DBSBY/onlinelog/slog2.rdo') SIZE 50M;
    ALTER DATABASE ADD STANDBY LOGFILE ('/Archive/DBSBY/onlinelog/slog3.rdo') SIZE 50M;
    ALTER DATABASE ADD STANDBY LOGFILE ('/Archive/DBSBY/onlinelog/slog4.rdo') SIZE 50M;
    4. Cancel recovery on standby
    recover managed standby database cancel;
    5. Restart recovery using real time apply
    recover managed standby database using current logfile disconnect;
    6. To validate that real time is working you can check a few places.
    -It will say in the database alert log on standby that it's using real time apply
    OR
    -Check primary
    SELECT status, recovery_mode FROM v$archive_dest_status where dest_name = 'LOG_ARCHIVE_DEST_2';
    If the recovery_mode is "MANAGED REAL TIME APPLY" then real time apply is working, if it's anything else then we'll need to check more things.
    NOTE that if you are going to allow your current primary to switch roles and become a standby then you'll want to create standby redo logs on primary as well
    Sometimes recovery gets "stuck" and simply resetting the destination parameters can resolve it:
    alter system set log_archive_dest_2='service=DBSBY valid_for=(online_logfiles,primary_role) db_unique_name=DBSBY LGWR ASYNC=20480 OPTIONAL REOPEN=15 NET_TIMEOUT=30';
    There are some other things we can check next but let's start with the easiest fixes first.

  • Oracle 11g XE listener does not start automatically during boot

    Hi,
    This happened to me recently I just wanted to share it with you.
    For development I was running Standard Edition, at some point I decided to run also XE on the same server for another reasons. Everything was working fine, except that after restart of the server, the XE listener is not starting automatically. Debugging the startup script I found that this happens because of a bug in the code, which assumes that XE listener is running if it finds the word LISTENER within the processes list. I didn't found any obligation in the docs for running XE without any other databases on the same host.
    In file /etc/init.d/oracle-xe, at line 556 the code is failing:
    1     + status='oracle 2889 1 0 May13 ? 00:00:05 /oracle/ora112se/bin/tnslsnr LISTENER -inherit'
    2     + '[' 'oracle 2889 1 0 May13 ? 00:00:05 /oracle/ora112se/bin/tnslsnr LISTENER -inherit' == '' ']'
    As you can see I have another listener(the one for SE) running and because of the XE startup script found the keyword LISTENER it’s supposing that the XE LISTENER is already running.
    To fix this simply change line 556 from:
    1     status=`ps -ef | grep tns | grep oracle`
    To:
    1     status=`ps -ef | grep tns | grep oracle | grep xe`
    Now XE listener is started automatically during boot.
    Sve
    Blog: http://sve.to

    I though the same thing, but XE LISTENER is running on localhost and port 1522. On the other hand XE have local_listener explicitly set to the very same connection descriptor. Even XE installation was second on this server.
    I've could change that yes, but the startup script doesn't seemed to have this mind.

  • How to Create Manual Standby for a Oracle 11g RAC with ASM to Single Instan

    Hi All,
    I have a task to configure a Single Instance Standby Database with ASM for 2-node Primary RAC+ASM database.
    Version using : 11.1.0.6 Oracle 11g --- *" STANDARD EDITION "* Please note datagaurd will not be supported in standard edition.
    Primary database - 2 -Node RAC using ASM storage (All datafiles, redologs, controfile and archive logs)
    Need to setup a single instance standby database manually and than using scripts to transfer the archive logs from primary server to standby server to do recovery time to time.
    Please let me know if there are any configuration document(s) which can help me to set the manual standby? or need your kind help to give your valuable ideas how to go in above situation.
    Thanks in advance

    Well if the archive logs are stored in ASM on the primary nodes, you almost definitely want to be using RMAN to access them. Then to transfer between primary and standby there are many options, this is essentially the step that Data Guard takes care of - so if you (and I) are running Standard Edition, this is the part to "worry" about.
    I'm not really sure what you mean by this:
    As in standard edition the archive destination will be on ASMI don't think the Edition of Oracle (Standard or Enterprise) dictates where and how you store your archive logs, but it's possible I've misunderstood what you mean...SE dictates that database storage for RAC will be ASM, including archive log files. Anything else is not officially supported. I haven't tested but it may be that you can use LOG_ARCHIVE_DUPLEX_DEST to specify a local filesystem for archive log files as well.
    If that doesn't work you'll have to script rman "backup as copy" jobs regularly and then transport the results of that.

    By the way, it seems Robert has been pretty helpful, it's polite to give him some points dude. And since this is your thread, not mine, give him a "helpful" from me too :p
    El DBA
    Incidentally if you are forced down the RMAN backup as copy route then this will likely throw your current backup retention strategy somewhat, you'll need to think carefully about when an archivelog can be deleted following backup, how many times it might be backed up and so on. I do understand, and have argued for, the use of SE RAC. I also understand and have argued for and implemented manually managed standby a number of times. However by the time your primary database is a RAC instance and you need a standby for DR etc then you really have to look very seriously at whether Standard Edition is still the right investment or not. You will be spending a lot of DBA time managing and troubleshooting this, and you will find that it is less reliable than the off the shelf solution. I suspect that you are very close to the point where an EE installation becomes a worthwhile investment here.

  • Any error come oracle 11g r1 n 11g r2 installed in same ORACLE_BASE

    Hello ,
    if I had installed oracle 11g r2 in same oracle base where oracle 11g r1 was already existing,,,ll there b any problem going to occur .

    Thanx Mr. Bakker ,
    but as I had installed oracle 11g r1 and oracle 11g r2 in same ORACLE_BASEEach installation should be in its own directory, indicated by ORACLE_HOME. Normally, the two ORACLE_HOME directories would be under the same ORACLE_BASE directory.
    my oracle 11g r1 database was not getting up but oracle 11g r2 database was connecting properly using sysdba till yesterday and today i found that oracle 11g r2 database is also not able to coonect to sysdba and giving me error
    ORA-12547: TNS:lost contact.
    What is the reason behind this?There could be all kinds of things going on here. What is your OS? What is the value of the ORACLE_HOME and ORACLE_SID environment variables for the process trying to connect? Are you trying to connect from the same machine that is running the database? EXACTLY how are you trying to connect?
    Best if you log on to the server as an account that is a member of the DBA (ORA_DBA if Windows), then fire up a command prompt. Copy the following and paste it into your command prompt:
    env | sort
    sqlplus / as sysdbaThen copy the results and paste back here.

  • Oracle 11g benefits

    Hello Guys
    Oracle 11g new features notes as found on web very generic
    if i want to convince my client to switch from oracle 10g to oracle 11g,this information will not be useful
    if you had migrated to 11g and worked on it,please reply practical reasons from dba point of view
    how customer will be benefited from migrating from oracle 10 g to 11g
    like if i mentioned to him ADR feature it doesnt makes sense to him
    Active dataguard may be one of feature but will be have any benefit where dataguard is implemented
    still to application guys also it will give any advantage
    say for example i am discussing this with Application team head ,how will he benefit from migrating to 11g
    what feature will be benefitted to him and how
    will this feature will be appealing enough to efforts in migration
    thanks
    cheers

    In my opinion, the best way to convince them is to do an assessment for their particular environment, based on the specifics.
    For example, I've done such one for a database and here are some of the points:
    1. Almost 30%(as reported by Grid Control) of frequently executed queries are on tables like XX.XXXX and YY.YYYYY. These tables are relatively small and statements , and functions on them are good candidates for modification to use :
    Query Results Cache and PL/SQL Function Result Cache (Oracle 11G Enterprise Edition option, no extra cost needed).
    2. From time to time we experience sudden execution plan changes and get worse plans. This degrades applications' performance orders of magnitude. Oracle 11g has a new built-in feature called "SQL Plan Management". As described in the docs:
    "SQL plan management prevents performance regressions resulting from sudden changes to the execution plan of a SQL statement by providing components for capturing, selecting, and evolving SQL plan information. If you are performing a database upgrade that installs a new optimizer version, it can result in plan changes for a small percentage of SQL statements, with most of the plan changes resulting in either no performance change or improvement. However, certain plan changes may cause performance regressions.
    With SQL plan management, the optimizer automatically manages execution plans and ensures that only known or verified plans are used. When a new plan is found for a SQL statement, the plan is not used until it has been verified by the database to have comparable or better performance than the current plan. This means if you seed SQL plan management with your current (pre-11g) execution plan, which will become the SQL plan baseline for each statement, the optimizer uses these plans after the upgrade. If the 11g optimizer determines that a different plan should be used, the new plan is queued for verification and will not be used until it has been confirmed to have comparable or better performance than the current plan."
    I don't expect this to be perfect but at least it will decrease the number of such problematic periods.
    3. 10g Recovery Manager doesn't support parallelism per datafile. In our environment we have several 30+GB datafiles and since our storage system is not very fast for such type of operations, non-parallel restore of a single datafile will take much more time compared to the same activity on 11g. 11g supports RMAN datafile restore in parallel.
    4. Several optimizations in optimizer work. One of them is better handling of full scans:
    We've done some tests 10g/11g and were surprised because of this direct path read/db file scattered reads thing. Our tests are:
    Two databases - one 11g and one 10g with same sga_target,sga_max_size(500MB) and pga_aggregate_target(200MB), everything else is as it is set during install by DBCA. These two databases run on one host.
    The storage is a NAS(6 discs) managed by 11g ASM (one normal redundancy diskgroup ) which is used by the databases.
    I imported a 3GB table on every database and gathered stats. To not go in detail as of now, the results are:
    three consecutive runs on 11g.
    average execution time - 50 seconds
    three consecutive runs on 10g.
    average execution time - 125 seconds
    The statement is:
    select /*+ full(t) nocache(t) */ count(1) from zz.zzz t;
    and there is no other activity on the host and the storage.
    Same number of logical and physical reads during 11g and 10g runs.
    During the above runs while run on:
    11g, iostat reports ~14MB/s per disk
    10g, iostat reports ~5MB/s per disk
    After tracing these sessions we figured out that on 11g direct path read is used, while 10g uses db file scattered read.
    5. We can use AUDIT_SYS_OPERATIONS in conjunction with XML,EXTENDED for auditing purposes. 10.2.0.4 has a bug for this that is fix in 11.1.0.6 onwards.
    6. Database Resident Connection Pooling(Concepts guide 11g documentation)
    "Database Resident Connection Pooling (DRCP) provides a connection pool in the database server for typical Web application usage scenarios. DRCP pools dedicated servers, which comprise of a server foreground combined with a database session, to create pooled servers.
    A Web application typically acquires a database connection, uses the connection for a short period, and then releases the connection. DRCP enables multiple Web application threads and processes to share the pooled servers for their connection needs.
    DRCP complements middle-tier connection pools that share connections between threads in a middle-tier process. DRCP also enables you to share database connections across multiple middle-tier processes. These middle-tier processes may belong to the same or different middle-tier host.
    DRCP enables a significant reduction in key database resources that are required to support a large number of client connections. DRCP reduces the amount of memory required for the database server and boosts the scalability of both the database server and the middle-tier. The pool of readily available servers also reduces the cost of re-creating client connections.
    DRCP is especially useful for architectures with multi-process, single-threaded application servers, such as PHP and Apache servers, that cannot do middle-tier connection pooling. The database can scale to tens of thousands of simultaneous connections with DRCP."
    It will help us to improve dedicated server usage(currently we use shared server).
    7. A lot of bug fixes for bugs that don't have 10g patches , fixed in 11g only and affect us - examples XML,EXTENDED and AUDIT_SYS_OPERATIONS bug, FGA bugs, job system on logical standby database , "ORA-12569: TNS:packet checksum failure" during sqlplus login and so on.
    It's for sure that there are much more such convincing points, but a several days assessment will make it possible to identify the most important ones from performance/availability/security perspective for their environment. As it is often the case - the devil is in the details. It's all about the way they use the database.

  • USER_DEPENDENCIES view in oracle 11g and oracle 10g are different?

    I have tested oracle 10g and oracle 11g. And I found some different behavior in the user_dependencies view between two oracle version.
    In the oracle 10g, whatever referenced object is populated in the user_dependencies view. In the oracle 11g, however, only valid referenced objects are populated in it.
    For example, a package, pac_1, references table, ref_tab_1, and package, ref_pac_2. After ref_tab_1 is dropped and ref_pac_2 is invalid, I query to user_dependencies.
    sql> select referenced_name, referenced_type from user_dependencies where name = 'pac_1'.
    In oracle 10g, the result is like the following,
    < referenced_type > , < referenced_name >
    non-existent , ref_tab_1
    package , ref_pac_2
    In oracle 11g, the result is not showing non-existed object nor invlid object like the following,
    no rows selected
    Is that the TRUE or do I missed some when I installed database or created database in 11g?
    Is there a way to make the behavior of user_dependencies like it in 10g which shows all the referenced objets?
