Oracle 11g - Listen for remote connections

Hi all,
I recently installed Oracle 11.1.0.7.0 on a Windows Server 2008 standard server 6.0 service pack 2. Everything is working as it should.
I can open the database control web page on the local computer.
I can connect locally to the database from SQL Plus
I can connect locally to the database from Oracle SQL Developer
The database control web page shows the database is up and running as well as the listener. All is good! As the status shows:

I keep getting the following error:

Can anyone please assist me in this matter?
Many thanks in advance!

  • Oracle 11g advantages for performance

    Hello,
    I am doing test of Client side result set cache on oracle 11 g rel2 ,O/S- RHEL
    i am doing test as below on 2 Oracle 11g rel2 test servers on RHEL
    one oracle 11g rel2 instance is used as server1,from other oracle 11g rel2 server2, i am running queries connecting to server1 through sqlplus,listener(tnsnames )
    i run query few times without any client cache settings then
    i have set init.ora paras for oracle 11g rel2 for client result cache,cache size/cache lag
    i run the same query few times
    in both the cases after each run i am noting statistics
    select * from V$RESULT_CACHE_OBJECTS;
    select * from V$CLIENT_RESULT_CACHE_STATS;
    select * from gv$cpool_conn_info;
    also autotrace,plan etc
    but after using cache this views are getting poplulated ,autiotrace plan shows cache is used
    but i cant see any improvement in performance after using client cache like speed,reduce network trip, etc
    in fact without using cache/with no hint ,query executes faster
    let me know if i am missing something,i believe sqlplus internally using OCI
    thanks

    Unless you plan to provide the information ask for about what it is you are doing there really isn't any point in providing status updates that: you test this, you tested that. You made several statements about what you were doing

    You have to be using OCI for client side caching so if you use the Java thin driver but don't use OCI there won't be any cacheing. There also won't be any if it is not enabled or if the query has certain constraints as listed in the doc

    Queries that are not Cached
    There are queries that are not cached on the OCI client even if the result cache hint is specified. Such queries may be cached on the database if the server result cache feature is enabled (see Oracle Database Concepts, "SQL Query Result Cache" for more information). If a SQL query includes any of the following, then the result set of that query is not cached in the OCI client result cache:
    •Views
    •Remote objects
    •Complex types in the select list
    •Snapshot-based or flashback queries
    •Queries executed in a serializable, read-only transaction, or inside a flashback session
    •Queries that have PL/SQL functions in them
    •Queries that have VPD policies enabled on the tables

    This Oracle-Developer.net article author doesn't seem to have any trouble caching results.

  • Need helps for remote connection issue

    Dear guys,
    Today, I got a problem regarding remote connections. My Oracle stopped responding to remote connections. (tried to connect by sqlplus with service name, and sqlplus hung) Tnsping works. Local connection works (tried to connect by sqlplus without service name).
    Have to stutdown by sqlplus and oracle did not respond. Shutdown the server (windows server 2003 standard edition), system stop responding (guess it was caused by oracle service). Had to shutdown by pushing the power button. After it restarts, everything come back to normal. No error is logged in alert log.
    Any ideas regarding this issue? Many thanks.
    G.B.
    Still studying this issue. Found an SQLNET.log in the %ORACLE_HOM%/NETWORK/LOG fould. It reads:

    Seems it's related to authentication service issue. So, I just commented out SQLNET.AUTHENTICATION_SERVICES= (NTS) from sqlnet.ora even my database functions well after restart. But I'm not sure if this is the solution and still wondering what's the root cause of this error.

    Hi there!
    Modify the following entry in sqlnet.ora
    SQLNET.AUTHENTICATION_SERVICES= (NTS)
    to
    SQLNET.AUTHENTICATION_SERVICES= (beq,none)
    and you will be fine,

    Oracle 11g - External Table/Remote File Issue?
    =============================
    I hope this is the right forum for this issue, if not let me, where to go.
    We are using Oracle 11g (11.2.0.1.0) on (Platform : solaris[tm] oe (64-bit)), Sql Developer 3.0.04
    We are not allowed to put files on the CSV file system (Server A), where DB instance is running. We are able place CSV files on another server(Server B), where DB instance is not running.
    We are trying to use oracle external table to load text files in .CSV format.
    How do we create a Directory (Create Directory) on Server A DB to point to File system of Server B?
    Is it feasible?
    Any idea?
    Thanks in helping.

    The Solaris DBA should be able to mount the filesystem for you. Either that or you have to get creative transferring the file like this;

  • Oracle 11g ODBC for Windows NT and Windows 95

    Hi
    Please does anyone knows where can I find this ODBC ? Oracle 11g ODBC for Windows NT and Windows 95
    I have test some ODBC from the Oracle page but doesnt work
    Thank you
    J.A.

    I'm thinking no.
    However I did find this which may help :
    http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/database/windows/odbcfaq-128251.pdf
    I did the search for 16 bit in it and found some interesting information.
    The other piece of information I can share is the Oracle 11 client has issues connecting to Oracle 9.
    An Oracle 10 clients might have a better chance, but the catch is finding it.
    The last client I remember working on these OS's was Oracle 8. But I doubt that will connect to Oracle 11.

    Alter all of the (session only)

    Hi,
    My OS is windows XP 32 bitOkay. Did you check the state of the Oracle Services?
    I reinstalled the software again and mySQL is working good.mySQL?! Or do you mean, you can connect using sqlplus (the database "command line")?
    http://127.0.0.1:8080/apex/f?p=4950The link is correct. Do you have any other service that might use port 8080, e.g. an Apache Tomcat, IIS, or similar?
    So, if you can connect using sqlplus (which didn't work in your first post, probably works now after reinstallation), you could open up a command line window and run
    lsnrctl statusIf you don't find an entry like the following one, your Database Listener wasn't able to bind to that port. Either you have a (rapid) changing hostname/IP-adress, no active network interface, or a port conflict.
    (DESCRIPTION=(ADDRESS=(PROTOCOL=tcp)(HOST=yourhostname)(PORT=8080))(Presentation=HTTP)(Session=RAW))
    {code]
    The output of that command gives you several other information that might help you find resources for debugging, e.g. the location of your *Listener Parameter File* and your *Listener Log File*. You can take a look at these to find out what's going wrong.

  • The danger of memory target in Oracle 11g - request for discussion.

    Hello, everyone.
    This is not a question, but kind of request for discussion.
    I believe that many of you heard something about automatic memory management in Oracle 11g.
    The concept is that Oracle manages the target size of SGA and PGA. Yes, believe it or not, all we have to do is just to tell Oracle how much memory it can use.
    But I have a big concern on this. The optimizer takes the PGA size into consideration when calculating the cost of sort-related operations.
    So what would happen when Oracle dynamically changes the target size of PGA? Following is a simple demonstration of my concern.

    1. Oracle invalidates the query when internal pga aggregate size changes, which is quite natural.
    2. With changed pga aggregate size, Oracle recalculates the cost. These are excerpts from the both of the 10053 trace files.
    -- First 10053 trace file

    _smm_px_max_size                    = 32768 KB
    optimizer_use_sql_plan_baselines    = false

    Bug Fix Control Environment10053 trace file clearly says that Oracle recalculates the cost of the query with the change of internal pga aggregate target size. So, there is a great danger of unexpected plan change while Oracle dynamically controls the memory segments.
    I believe that this is a desinged behavior, but the negative side effect is not negligible.
    I just like to hear your opinions on this behavior.
    Do you think that this is acceptable? Or is this another great feature that nobody wants to use like automatic tuning advisor?

    I made a slight modification with my test case to have mixed workloads of hard parse and logical reads.
    *.memory_target=200m
    *.memory_max_target=200m
    create table t3(c1 int, c2 char(1000));
    insert into t3 select level, level from dual connect by level <= 50000;
    declare
      pat1     varchar2(1000);
      pat2     varchar2(1000);
      va       number;
    begin
      select ksppstvl into pat1
        from sys.xm$ksppi i, sys.xm$ksppcv v
        where i.indx = v.indx
        and i.ksppinm = '__pga_aggregate_target';
      for idx in 1 .. 1000000 loop
        -- try many patterns here!
        execute immediate 'select count(*) from t3 where 10 = mod('||idx||',10)+1' into va;
        if mod(idx, 100) = 0 then
          sys.dbms_system.ksdwrt(2, idx || 'th execution');
          for p in (select ksppinm, ksppstvl
              from sys.xm$ksppi i, sys.xm$ksppcv v
              where i.indx = v.indx
              and i.ksppinm in ('__shared_pool_size', '__db_cache_size', '__pga_aggregate_target')) loop
              sys.dbms_system.ksdwrt(2, p.ksppinm || ' = ' || p.ksppstvl);
          end loop;
          select ksppstvl into pat2
          from sys.xm$ksppi i, sys.xm$ksppcv v
          where i.indx = v.indx
          and i.ksppinm = '__pga_aggregate_target';
          if pat1 <> pat2 then
            sys.dbms_system.ksdwrt(2, 'yep, I got it! pat1=' || pat1 ||', pat2='||pat2);
            exit;
          end if;
        end if;
      end loop;
    end;
    /This test case showed expected and reasonable result, like following:
    100th execution
    __shared_pool_size = 92274688
    __db_cache_size = 16777216
    __pga_aggregate_target = 83886080
    200th execution
    __shared_pool_size = 92274688
    __db_cache_size = 16777216
    __pga_aggregate_target = 83886080
    300th execution
    __shared_pool_size = 88080384
    __db_cache_size = 20971520
    __pga_aggregate_target = 83886080
    400th execution
    __shared_pool_size = 92274688
    __db_cache_size = 16777216
    __pga_aggregate_target = 83886080
    500th execution
    __shared_pool_size = 88080384
    __db_cache_size = 20971520
    __pga_aggregate_target = 83886080
    1100th execution
    __shared_pool_size = 92274688
    __db_cache_size = 20971520
    __pga_aggregate_target = 83886080
    1200th execution
    __shared_pool_size = 92274688
    __db_cache_size = 37748736
    __pga_aggregate_target = 58720256
    yep, I got it! pat1=83886080, pat2=58720256Oracle continued being bounced between shared pool and buffer cache size, and about 1200th execution Oracle suddenly stole some memory from PGA target area to increase db cache size.
    (I'm still in dark age on this automatic memory target management of 11g. More research in need!)
    I think that this is very clear and natural behavior. I just want to point out that this would result in unwanted catastrophe under special cases, especially with some logic holes and bugs.

  • Oracle 11g listener issue

    Hello,
    I have installed oracle 11g on windows 7. Installation and database creation was successfull but after creating database listener should automatically up and start
    but i am not able to listener in the services window and not able to conntest database using connect string.
    I tried to create new listener using netca but it is hanging ..
    I have downloaded this software from oracle website.
    any idea where can i check to resolve this issue.

    Hi,
    I had the same problem as the OP, and I followed these instructions to try and see which error was raised by the listener when it started.
    Weird thing is, after deleting the listener.ora file and restarting the listener with the "lsnrctl start" command, it worked !
    The only additional thing I did is (as written in some obscure Oracle documentation) create a loopback network adapter (because my PC is DHCP-based).
    Now I have rebooted my PC, and it still works. Go figure...
    I hate Oracle. They shouldn't have been authorized to buy back Sun. My prediction is that Java is going the same way as their DB : it's gonna be a mess... :(Just because you can't make things work and find the documentation obscure doesn't mean things don't work. Its not Access with point-click you see!

  • Oracle 11g support for JDK 1.4

    Dear All,
    We are planning to migrate from Oracle 10.2.0.3 to Oracle 11.2.0.2. However our application server JDK version is in JDK1.4 and we use ojdbc4.jar for JDBC connectivity.
    Please let me know, to migrate to Oracle 11g requires JDK1.5 and ojdbc1.5 or can we continue to stay at JDK1.4 and uses ojdbc4.jar to connect to Oracle11g.
    Help Appreciated.

    There is only one real answer here: test it and test it thoroughly. Asking this question here is pointless, you cannot trust anyone here to give you advice you can rely on. Whatever is said, you have to validate the claims anyway.
    Or did you think that Oracle employees were going to answer your question? If so, you are sadly mistaken. Oracle charges money for giving technical support.

  • Oracle 11g Listener Supports No services

    I have installed Oracle 11g in Linux (Centos). i created a starter database using dbca. I also created a listener.ora using netca.
    I have observed that that the listener.ora was only generated like this after running netca:
    LISTENER =
      (DESCRIPTION_LIST =
        (DESCRIPTION =
          (ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = TCP)(HOST =proky.warnerbro.com)(PORT = 1521))
      )Now when i start this listener, I get a message: "The listener supports no services".
    I have read on some forums that something like this should be included:
    SID_LIST_LISTENER =
      (SID_LIST =
        (SID_DESC =
          (SID_NAME = $$###$)
          (ORACLE_HOME =$ORACLE_HOME)
          (PROGRAM = extproc)
        (SID_DESC =
          (GLOBAL_DBNAME = orcl)
          (ORACLE_HOME = $ORACLE_HOME)
          (SID_NAME = orcl)
      )So, my question is, do dba's edit this manually or there should be a tool or wizard that would generate this text in listener.ora.
    thanks in advance,
    Anton

    Thanks guys.
    Another question though.
    How can I edit the listener that is used by emctl (database control)? Cause I have edited my listener.ora. I have removed an entry originally listened to by database control. For Example, originally there was a listener called listener3 which was used by emctl. Now I run netca and remove "listener3" and add one listener "listener". If i check listener.ora at ORACLE_HOME/network/admin, the file now has an entry listener and no more listener3.
    However when I start emctl, it says there that is still uses the "listener3" listener
    So even if i issued a "alter system register" at sqlplus, I still can't find my database on emctl.

  • Find Datas from Select Satement - Oracle 11g After changing the Connection?

    Iam very very new to Oracle. Yesterday only I have Installed Oracle 11G & created DataBase - JafferDB
    And from Oracle SQL Developer, I have created a connection called - JafferCon and SID also given..and the role is - SYSDBA
    And I excute the below statement
    insert into MyTable1 Values ('AAA1', 'BBB1', 'CCC1')
    insert into MyTable1 Values ('AAA2', 'BBB2', 'CCC2')
    Then I checked by Select statement, it has shown the values....No Problem....
    But, as a test, I deleted the connection and created a new connection tio the same DataBase with different name
    and when I checked by Select Statement....., it has not shown the values....????
    Does any mistakes....?
    Thanks for the directions...

    after you insert, update or delete any data in the database you must use "commit" or "rollback" statement. Commit if you want "save" the changes or rollback if you don't.
    Other users can't see this new changes until you do the "commit".
