Oracle 11g R2 how to take exp/imp

hi.. i am using oracle11.2 version. i am try to take logical backup like "EXP" in linux environment but empty table missed out..
can u say how to take this backup with empty tables...
Thanks in advance

Hello,
i am try to take logical backup like "EXP" in linux environment but empty table missed outIt's due to a new feature in 11.2. By default the Parameter DEFERRED_SEGMENT_CREATION is set to TRUE, so that Segments are just created when the first row is inserted:
http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/E14072_01/server.112/e10820/initparams069.htm
Please, use the DATAPUMP Export/Import instead of the Original Export/Import. The DATAPUMP manages better this new feature. You'll have an example below:
http://asktom.oracle.com/pls/apex/f?p=100:11:0::::P11_QUESTION_ID:3014631100346711923
You'll find on the following link some advices to start with DATAPUMP:

Hope this help.

  • Oracle 11g Installation How to select Database Character Set

    Hi,
I am Installing oracle 11g R2. After installation I had verified the character set it was AL16UTF16 but I wants to set AL32UTF8 charater set at the time of oracle installation only. I can't see the character set setting opetion at the time of installation because I am selecting the installation option " Install database softerware only" and after installation of oracle software manually I am creating the database. Please help me how can I set the character set at the time of oracle installation or at the time of database creation.
    My question is-
How can I set the AL32UTF8 character set in above scenario?
Why It is showing AL16UTF16 character set even I did not define any thing?

But is there any choice to set the NLS_CHARACTERSET at the time of manually database creation. • Oracle 11g upgrade: How to update stale statistics for sys and sysman?

    Hi,
I am in the process of testing Oracle 11g upgrade from Oracle 10.2.0.3. I have run utlu111i.sql on the 10g database.
The utility utlu111i.sql reports about the stale statistics for SYS and SYSMAN components.
    I executed dbms_stats.gather_dictionary_stats; dbms_stats.gather_schema_stats('SYS'); and dbms_stats.gather_schema_stats('SYSMAN');
After that the utlu111i.sql still reports the stale statistics for sys and sysman. Does anyone know how to get rid off this warning successfully?
    Thanks,

  • Oracle 11g R1: How to create indexes automatically in tablespaces?

    Hello,
Obviously, due to maintenance and performance reasons it is better to put indexes in own tablespaces, separated from the data.
I would like to know now whether there is a way under Oracle 11g R1 to create every index automatically in a tablespace?..or the indexes can only be created manually?
Unfortunately i wasn't able to find any hint in the documentation or by googlin' it.
    Thanks in advance.
    Regards,

    Hi Lars
I wouldn't be quite so sure having a separate tablespace just for indexes is better for either performance or maintenance reasons if I were you ...
For your enjoyment, some reasons why this simply is not true:

  • How to use exp,imp in oracle 8i version....

    Hi developer ...
I am using oracle 8i version in windows xp platform. Can you please explain how to export and import my tables in to export.txt file.
    with
    Regards
    sure...:)--

    Hi,
Did you want to downgrade from 8i to 7.0, 7.3 and 8.0 ?
To downgrade, you need to use the export utility from the target database.
So, you will need three export files :
Run the 7.0 export to export from the 8i database, and import into a 7.0 database with the 7.0 import utility.
Same for 7.3 and 8.0 database.

  • IS IT POSSIBLE TO TAKE EXP/IMP OF WF SCHEMA

I am facing issue of wf schema importing. I have taken export of WF schema and applying it on same schema, still gives me error while completing notification that,
ORA-06508: PL/SQL: could not find program unit being called.
I think its an serious issue because if in production WF database get crashed, then how to recover it.
    pls help....

Sure, connect to your computer, drop the photos into iPhoto and print from your computer until you run out of ink! Don't have an iPod 4, so I don't know if you have airdrop, but you do, you can print from your iPod to any printer capable of recieving airdrop. You may also be able to use USB cable and connect to the printer from your iPod but not sure about it working, don't know if the drivers work that way, guess you'd have to experiment. Hope this helps, Good luck.

  • In Oracle 11g query, how can I refer to results of different column ....

I want to be able to refer to the results of C1 in another column expression C2. I get ORA-00904: "C1" invalid identifier, which makes sense. I know that I can repeat the entire very long CASE again in my C2 DECODE, but wondering if I can save the server many extra cycles from evaluating the CASE again.
SELECT [very long nested CASE statements] as C1, DECODE(C1,1,'YES','NO') as C2 FROM TABLE
    Many thanks,
    AK

    Hello
You can't refer to the alias at the same level so you either have to repeat the CASE statement or wrap it in an inline view and refer to the alias in that. i.e.
    SELECT
        c1,
        DECODE(C1,1,'YES','NO') as C2
    FROM
            SELECT
[very long nested CASE statements] as C1
            FROM
                FROM TABLE

  • Using exp/imp to clone a database from Solaris to NT

    Hi All,
We have an 8.1.6 Oracle database in production under Sun Solaris.
We actually use this database to run Siebel CRM system.
We have a Windows NT server which we used as a QA system
    for this application.
We have a daily full export of our production database on the
Sun machine. Now my manager wants to import this production
dmp file into this Win NT database on a weekly basis.
The goal here is to maintain the state of this NT database
as much functional and close to the production one as possible.
I would appreciate your help on this.
I have some other general question:
in which case can the Oracle imp utility be run in the
    full=y mode ?
does this make any sense at all ?
since the Oracle import utility does not delete
any existing objects before it imports, these objects
should be deleted manually and that's what I do
with all Siebel users schemas; of course I do not
do this with SYS, SYSTEM and other special Oracle
users; question: are there any objects in these
special Oracle schemas that have to be carried over from
the source database to the target database to
make the rest of the schemas functional ?
Somehow I failed to find Oracle documentation on how
to use exp/imp to create a complete clone of an Oracle
    database.
Can direct path be used with full=y export/import mode ?
    Thank you in advance,
    Yuriy.

As an alternative to using daily/weekly exports and imports, what would probably be more effective here would be replication. The databases could synch on a nightly basis and updated tables and rows will be transferred from your OLTP system to your read-only system. More information can be found on replication from "Oracle8i DBA Handbook" by Kevin Loney and Marlene Therialt.

  • Exp/Imp In Oracle 10g client

    Hi All,
I want to take one schema export from Oracle 10g Client. I am in new Oracle 10g.
In oracle 9i, we can using exp/imp command for Export and Import from Client itself.
I heard about in Oracle 10g, we can use Expdb/Impdb in Server only. Is there any possibility to take exp/imp in Client also.
    Pls help me...
    Cheers,
    Moorthy.GS

To add up to expdb from oracle client
    NETWORK_LINK
    Default: none
    Purpose
Enables an export from a (source) database identified by a valid database link. The data from the source database instance is written to a dump file set on the connected database instance.
    Syntax and Description
    NETWORK_LINK=source_database_link
The NETWORK_LINK parameter initiates an export using a database link. This means that the system to which the expdp client is connected contacts the source database referenced by the source_database_link, retrieves data from it, and writes the data to a dump file set back on the connected system.
The source_database_link provided must be the name of a database link to an available database. If the database on that instance does not already have a database link, you or your DBA must create one. For more information about the CREATE DATABASE LINK statement, see Oracle Database SQL Reference.
If the source database is read-only, then the user on the source database must have a locally managed tablespace assigned as the default temporary tablespace. Otherwise, the job will fail. For further details about this, see the information about creating locally managed temporary tablespaces in the Oracle Database Administrator's Guide.
    Restrictions
When the NETWORK_LINK parameter is used in conjunction with the TABLES parameter, only whole tables can be exported (not partitions of tables).
The only types of database links supported by Data Pump Export are: public, fixed-user, and connected-user. Current-user database links are not supported.
    Example
The following is an example of using the NETWORK_LINK parameter. The source_database_link would be replaced with the name of a valid database link that must already exist.
    expdp hr/hr DIRECTORY=dpump_dir1 NETWORK_LINK=source_database_linkDUMPFILE=network_export.dmp LOGFILE=network_export.log

  • How to exp/imp both diff character set tables between in DB1 and DB2?

In the Solaris 2.7 ,the oracle 8i DB1 has NLS_CHARACTERSET
    ZHS16CGB231280 and NLS_NCHAR_CHARACTERSET ZHS16CGB231280
    character set.
In other linux7.2 system ,the oracle 8i DB2 is install into the
    NLS_NCHAR_CHARACTERSET US7ASCII and NLS_CHARACTERSET US7ASCII
    character set.
The tables contents of DB1 have some chinese. I want to exp/imp
tables of DB1 into DB2 . But the chinese can't correct display
in the SQLWheet tools. How do the Exp/Imp operation ? ples help
    me . thanks .

The supported way to store GB231280-encoded characters is using a ZHS16CGB231280 database or a database created using a superset of GB231280 ,such as UTF8 .Can you not upgrade your target database from US7ASCII to ZHS16CGB231280 ?
With US7ASCII and NLS_LANG set to US7ASCII , you are using the garbage in garbage out (GIGO) approach. This may seem to work but there are many hidden problems :-
    1. Invalid SQL String Function behaviours - LENGTH ( ) , SUBSTR ( ) , INSTR ( )
    2. Data can be corrupted when data is loaded into another database. e.g. EXP / IMP , Dblinks
    3. Communication with other clients will generate incorrect results. e.g. other Oracle products - Oracle Text, Forms. , Java , HTML etc.
    4. Linguistic sorts not available
    5. Query using the standard WHERE clause may return incorrect results ..
    6. Extra coding overhead in handling character conversions manually.
I recommend you to check out the FAQ and the DB Character set migration guide on the Globalization Support forum on OTN.

  • How to take a backup manually in oracle 11g express edition?

how to take a backup manually in oracle 11g express edition? i want to take backup of a database and want to restore later on on a different computer .

Stop database, and copy all files to another machine. That sounds to me to be the closest answer to the question posted. And perhaps the easiest solution.
Install XE on the "another machine", shut it down. Shutdown the source database. Copy the datafiles to the new host. Startup your "new" database, it will be an exact clone of the original.
To find out what files need to be copied, as system (or sysdba) run:
    select name from v$datafile;
    ... file1, file2 ...
    show parameter control
    ... control_files ... file1 ...
    alter database backup controlfile to trace [reset logs];
    show parameter diag;
... diagnostic_dest ... <drive:>|/diag_pathTo do a proper database clone its better to recreate the controlfile and reset the archive sequence number- leave out the controlfile copy part. In the diag_path location find the trace file under diag/rdbms/$ORACLE_SID/<db_name>/trace it should be the latest ora*.trc file.
The trace file has the commands to recreate the controlfile, which includes the datafiles and putting the tempfile back in place. If the datafiles are in a different location, i.e. in Windows going to a different drive, or you want do put datafiles in a different folder location, the create controlfile statement is the easiest time to get the file directories right.
If you add the "reset logs" qualifier (don't use the brackets!) you'll get just the reset logs version of the create controlfile statement, otherwise you'll get both NORESETLOGS and RESETLOGS versions of a create controlfile statement, run one or the other. Not both. Not the entire trace file, just the create controlfile, alter database open [reset logs], alter tablespace temp add tempfile ... bits. No recovery is needed for a database that is shutdown when datafiles get copied to a new location/host.

  • Step by Step EXP / IMP database from Oracle 9i to Oracle 11g

Please help on the captioned where I did the below
    1. Use EXP to export the database from a Oracle9i database (O9_DB) OLD_Windows2003_SERVER
    2. Install the Oracle 11g (default service name is ORCL) to a new Windows 2003 server and use the IMP to import the O9_DB, however, I need to create the same physical path as the OLD_Windows2003_SERVER (e.g E:\Oralce_9i\Ordata\) in order to complete the IMP
    3. I can launch the SQL Developer and obtain the records count of evey tables being imported
However, is there any best / proper way to do the EXP/IMP, the ideal outcome would be
    1. Create a new namespace say (OLDDB) which same as the Oracle9i database name so maybe I don't need to modify much on the application side to point to the new database ?
    2. IMP the OLDDB to the new namespace OLDDB
    Thanks in advance

    Hello,
If you create the new Database on a new Server, you could keep the same name for the Database.
To switch from the old Database to the new one, you'll have to change the hostname on the "tnsnames.ora" or in any configuration file which define the database connexion.
About the best way to do the Export/Import, you may have some details on the link below:
    http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/E11882_01/server.112/e10819/expimp.htm#i262317
Else, why do you intend to stay on a Windows 2003 Server, why not moving to Windows 2008 ?
NB: Oracle *11.1* is certified on Windows 2008 and Oracle *11.2* is certified on Windows 2008 R2.
    Hope this help.

  • Migrate oracle 9207 DB 8 TB size frm Solaris to AIX?dont want  Exp/Imp

    Hi Guys,PLz help
I want migrate 8TB oracle database from Solaris 8 to AIX 5.
In my last post on the same topic I was told to refer Metalink notes
    291024.1,Note:77523.1,Note:277650.1
acc to these notes 'EXPORT/IMPORT IS THE ONLY OPTION TO MIGRATE FROM SOLARIS TO AIX'.
I was not convinced as In http://dba.ipbhost.com/index.php?showtopic=9523
    I read
"As both solaris and AIX are UNIX O/S, cloning the DB is also possible from source box to target box"
    Also
whats the role of "If the endianness is the same"??????
Can you guys plz comment on this again.....as I'm really confused because exp/imp of 8TB
is going to take half of my life :)
PLz tell in any other option in 9.2.0.7?If we have
    Thanx

    You can do
    SELECT PLATFORM_NAME, ENDIAN_FORMAT
FROM V$TRANSPORTABLE_PLATFORMto check endianness of different platform.
-- Note, the view is only on 10g and above.
datafiles from different endian format can't be directly copied over and use. On 10g you have option to use RMAN convert endianness.
with that said, since Solaris and AIX are all big engianness. That means you can directly copy datafiles over and clone database without using exp/imp.
this article has a list of how to clone
