  • HELP! Oracle 11g installation error

    OS: RHEL4

What could i do now? I am eager for the help.

That's right this is not related to the above problem, so the gcc issue could be considered as solved. Oracle 11g requires you to have about 1.5 the amount of RAM, if your swap is not configured to meet this requirement, then you should manually configure additional swap space. This should not prevent the process from continuing as long as you check the User Verified box. You can continue and if you notice an increase in the swap space consumption at execution time, then increase the swap area by using swap file space as this example illustrates:
    How to create a swapFile
Short on memory? Under 128MB is. Then build a swap file.
Go to Start > Run > Rxvt
    Type, then press Enter:
    dd if=/dev/zero of=/mnt/home/puppy.swp bs=1024 count=800k
Be patient. This will take several minutes.
    That 800k translates to 800MB (819,200KB).
So decrease according to available disk space.
    Type, then press Enter:
    mkswap /mnt/home/puppy.swp
    Type, then press Enter:
    swapon /mnt/home/puppy.swp
Go to Start > File Managers > uXplor
Drill down to /root/.etc/rc.d/rc.local and right-click and select edit.
Add this line to the bottom:
    swapon /mnt/home/puppy.swp
Save the file. This will turn on the swap file upon next boot.

  • Oracle 11g support for JDK 1.4

    Dear All,
We are planning to migrate from Oracle 10.2.0.3 to Oracle 11.2.0.2. However our application server JDK version is in JDK1.4 and we use ojdbc4.jar for JDBC connectivity.
Please let me know, to migrate to Oracle 11g requires JDK1.5 and ojdbc1.5 or can we continue to stay at JDK1.4 and uses ojdbc4.jar to connect to Oracle11g.
    Help Appreciated.

There is only one real answer here: test it and test it thoroughly. Asking this question here is pointless, you cannot trust anyone here to give you advice you can rely on. Whatever is said, you have to validate the claims anyway.
Or did you think that Oracle employees were going to answer your question? If so, you are sadly mistaken. Oracle charges money for giving technical support.

  • Need help setting up DB Link from my Oracle 11g XE to SQL Server.

    Hi,
I'm trying to create a DB Link from my Oracle 11g Express Edition in a Windows XP machine to an SQL Server. Here are the steps I've done so far.
    1. Created and setup an ODBC Connection for the SQL Server DB. Named it SQLSERVER. Windows Authenticated.
    2. Modified listener.ora. See below.

  • Is Oracle Identity Management 11g Patch Set 5 (11.1.1.6.0) reqd for Essbase

In the Media pack Readme for parts required to be downloaded for different EPM products, Essbase has Oracle Identity Management 11g Patch Set 5 (11.1.1.6.0) for Microsoft Windows x86 (64-bit) listed. Can someone please tell me if this is a must have. If not under what conditions does one need to have this?
    Thanks,
    Ted.

It is not a must have, if you don't know what OIM is then you probably dont need it :)

  • What are the privileges required for explain plan in Oracle 11g database

I am facing the problem in doing a explain plan for a view in Oracle 11g database. When I select from the view like this:
    select * from zonewisearpu
It does a select on the view but when I give explain plan like
    explain plan for
    select * from zonewisearpu
I get the error like insufficient privileges.
Please let me know if things are getting missed out as I guess system level privileges are required to execute this.
I hope, my question is clear.
It’s a humble request to revert urgently if possible as I need to complete a task and do not know the way out.

Thanks for your reply. I have found out that an explain plan is possible on the user's own objects and is not possible on the granted objects from a different schema. For eg, if I do a explain plan on a view querying on tables from a different view, it would not allow the explain plan to proceed. This could mean that explain plan needs different privileges than just a select.
Requesting for a revert to this.
Here is a simple test case that I have perfomed
    SQL> create user test1 identified by test1;
    User created.
    SQL> create user test2 identified by test1;
    User created.
    SQL> grant connect, resource to test1,test2;

  • Oracle 11g Installation How to select Database Character Set

    Hi,
I am Installing oracle 11g R2. After installation I had verified the character set it was AL16UTF16 but I wants to set AL32UTF8 charater set at the time of oracle installation only. I can't see the character set setting opetion at the time of installation because I am selecting the installation option " Install database softerware only" and after installation of oracle software manually I am creating the database. Please help me how can I set the character set at the time of oracle installation or at the time of database creation.
    My question is-
How can I set the AL32UTF8 character set in above scenario?
Why It is showing AL16UTF16 character set even I did not define any thing?

But is there any choice to set the NLS_CHARACTERSET at the time of manually database creation. I want to find Optimal size of a data block size as this is the one parameter which can increase the performance of a database or decrease it.If there is a single optimal size, that would surely be the default Oracle block size - as Oracle should know perhaps better than any of us, just what block size differences do as it is their code that uses it?
Can I ask why you said that you would not have chosen this topic as a thesis? My leaning has always been to expert systems and A.I. Even designed and written my own expert system language years ago. One thing that is critical in such systems is how you structure data - and that has a nice database angle to it. One that I believe can still be exploited for research purposes.
Don't you think that it'll benefit DBA's or database developer after I reach a successful conclusion? To be honest, in the real world of database systems, the least of my concerns are data block sizes. For example, we're busy putting together a storage array that should have a maximum I/O pipe size of 40Gb. In comparison, we currently use dual 2Gb fibre channels on most of our servers for our I/O.
Technology moves fast. And perhaps there is an ideal block size for the standard storage array and Oracle instance today - but that could invalidated by new technology next year. Would I want to spend time and effort studying and analysing and researching a very specific technical subject, that perhaps is not considered as of that critical importance by DBAs and perhaps can be outdated with new technology and techniques?
I honestly do not want to put you off studying db block sizes. Perhaps there's still some critical issues to uncover in that respect. But personally.. there are many other subject areas in database technology that peak my interest a lot more. But then you have your personal preferences and likes and dislikes - and data blocks could be your muse. :-)

  • Is a license required for Oracle 11g installed on private developer box?

    Hello,
I wish to install Oracle 11g on my personal computer to test some software that hits a database. Will I be able to install/run 11g on my machine for this use, or will it (eventually) prompt me for a license key? If I need a license, is there a free developer license available? I can't seem to find any info on this.
How is the licensing structured around the 11g "XE" BETA (express edition)? Is there a licensing difference between XE and non-XE?
And finally, is there a good summary of what features are missing from the XE edition? I tried installing 10g XE, and for example, the "DEFAULT TABLESPACE xxx" SQL command was not recognized. I need this 'feature' (as well as others). I'm assuming I'm going to need to install the full 11g release, but I hope there is no license required.
Any advice would be appreciated. Thank You.

The general license agreement is here - http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/licenses/standard-license-152015.html
In short, yes - you can download the software and use it for testing/prototyping.
11gXE Beta license terms are here - http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/licenses/ea-license-152003.html

    I have a machine running Oracle 11g - 64bits. And I have a table that contains a VARCHAR2(2000) field.
When I try to set the value of this field to a string that contains double byte characters, I get this error:
ORA-12899: value too large for column "QAPBG1220_11"."MYTABLE"."MYFIELD" (actual: 2433, maximum: 2000).
Although the value I'm setting is only 811 characters (€ sign).
The weird thing is that when I try to run the same query on another PC with Oracle 11g, 32 bits, It runs normally and the values are updated!!
Anyone has any idea about this? It's driving me crazy
    Thanks in advance
    Zahraa

On the 32 bit, this works fine. I get the record with the values 1 and 2000 euro signs.
On the 64 bits, there is one machine (oracle 11.2.0.1.0) that adds the row, but when I view it, the value shows as "????"
and another machine (oracle 11.1.0.7.0) that throws an error:
    - "String Literal is too long" : if there are more than 1333 euro characters
    - Value too large for column .... : if there are less than 1333 and more than 666 characters.
    Any ideas?

  • Oracle 11g Certification and Workshop Requirement

    Hello,
I have recently cleared below Oracle Exams.
    1Z0-051 (SQL Fundamentals)
    1Z0-052 (Oracle 11g Admin I)
1Z0-053 (Oracle 11g Admin II) - Cleared in May 2013
I haven't completed the Workshop requirement which indicates I am not OCP as of now.
Question is, is there any specific time limit within which I have to complete the Workshop? Specifically can I wait for another 6 months before completing the Workshop?
If I can wait for 6 months, is there any chance OU will stop offering these workshops in next 6 months (by Dec 2013)?
    Thanks

There is no time limit. But more importantly, you do not need to attend either of the DBA workshop courses. There are many courses which will meet the requirement. As you have the knowledge to  have passed the exams, you should attend a more advanced course. Perhaps the Database Performance Tuning course, or (if you want a shorter and  cheaper one) SQL Statement Tuning.

  • How to set Oracle 11g as Primary Oracle Home

    Hi All,
I've Windows 7 operating system & have Oracle 11g client ( enterprise edition), Oracle 10g XE and Oracle Developer Suite 10g. I want to know how can I set Oracle_11g_home as my primary oracle home.
Note: Currently, the home of Oracle Developer Suite 10g is my primary home as it gets invoked whenever I type sqlplus in the command prompt or tnsping my remote database from command prompt.
    Regards,
    MK

You have two options. Either edit your %PATH% environment variable and place the Path related to your 11g home first. Another option is to add an ORACLE_HOME environment variable that points to your 11g home.
    Hope this helps!
