Oracle 11R2 replication set up
Hi all,
I am new to oracle 11i and would like some thoughts on the implementing oracle replication.
I am planning to install Oracle 11R2 64 bit on windows 2008 64 bit. We will have another server in other location. How can i set up replication between two server..
what i need to set up on both server?
Please guide or any good doc would be helpful
thanks
Pranav,
Telling someone they "need" to install an expensive product is bad advice. Although your one over the world view of setting up GoldenGate is technically accurate, it also leaves out quite a bit, using a data pump, as an example.
For the OP:
Do you really mean 11i, as in E-Business Suite, or did you mean 11g, as in the RDBMS?
Your choices are:
Use what you've already paid for - Oracle Streams
License another Oracle product - GoldenGate
Buy a third party tool - Quest Shareplex, as an example
Do your own replication - materialized views, triggers, database links, and so on.

LONG RAW Columns and Replication Set-up
we are working to set-up a replicated environment for all of
our Oracle Applications.
I could not get a clear understanding which Version Oracle will
support BLOB/CLOB/LONG RAW replication support or
Whether we can plan for Replicating such kind of Applications.
I read from one of Oracle Press book - "Oracle Backup &
Recovery" it is documented
that Oracle doesn't replication support for columns that use
BLOBs,CLOBs ( Page
no. 434 )
As one of our application was designed using LONG RAW Column, I
was wondering
about carrying the existing LONG RAW column to be replicated
like a CLOB/BLOB, if oracle supports Replication of BLOB/CLOB.
It will be of great help, if you can provide some insight in the
complexity of
having BLOBs in the applications to go further on making our
efforts to have a
Replicated environment set-up.
Thanking you in anticipation.

< [email protected]>1) LONG and LONG RAW have been depricated since 8i so you shouldn't be using them ever for anything.
2) LONG and LONG RAW don't even have decent support to be manipulated from PL/SQL so there is essentially no SQL support.
3) It would be very rare that you would have anything to index in a LONG or a LONG RAW from a functionality standpoint. You're not likely, for example, to want to store more than 4k of data in a LONG and then do things like search for strings that start with a particular phrase. You're very very unlikely to want to search a binary LONG RAW to look for rows where the binary data starts with a particular string of bytes. You'd potentially want to be able to use Oracle Text on a LONG field to search for particular words and phrases in the text but I'm not sure that existed prior to LONGs being depricated.

OBIEE 11G Installation error during configuration steps with message "Distributing Repository" failed.
I searched lot of forums but all they say, install bos.loc.utf.EN_US Package for the Oracle BI locale setting english-usa language. From where we can download this package.
Thanks in advance. But I am assuming that when I make the installer, the 32-bit Run Time Engine is appened with the installer, as show below
Since from the picture you can see its including the support installers from '\Program Files (x86)\'
The application runs queries to fetch data from database in SQL server 2008, and for that I am using a Microsoft SQL Native Client 2008 R2 64 bit ( this is the only version that installs on either PC, even the one on which I developed my LV Application).
I am not using any driver, only toolkits for reports - and for that I un-checked the "Remove unused polymorphic VI instances" when making the executable, otherwise LV throws up an exception that share variable are not being included.
Yes I did reboot every time after I ran the installation.
Still getting the same error. -
Data Modeler 3 (EA1): Connection issue when connecting to oracle 11R2
Hi all,
When I try to create a connection object for a oracle 11r2 database I get the following error:
ORA-00604: error occurred at recursive SQL level 1
ORA-22285: non-existent directory or file for FILEEXISTS operation
ORA-06512: at "SYS.DBMS_LOB", line 725
ORA-06512: at line 5
when I test the connection.
I have checked the oracle 11r2 instance and have 3 directory objects and all are correct;
SYS ORACLE_OCM_CONFIG_DIR /opt/oracle/app/oracle/product/11.2.0.1/ccr/state
SYS DATA_PUMP_DIR /opt/oracle/app/oracle/product/11.2.0.1/rdbms/log/
SYS XMLDIR /opt/oracle/app/oracle/product/11.2.0.1/rdbms/xml
What can cause this problem. I have the same issue with the older version of the data modeler
ThanksHey if you want me too I can create a tar/sr.
It happens even when I log in as sysdba. The three directory objects on the file system are all owned by oracle and oracle can rwx into those.
My user can see XMLDIR but does not have read/write on the directory object all other it does have read write.
Thanks.

please anyone helpme out thatFor Red hat, you need to have a paid license for Redhat network. "Other than that, the option would be search over web like www.rpmfind.net. I would recommend you that you start using Enterprise Linux which has a Public YUM available for free which can be used to find the rpms needed without looking in the media all the time.

Oracle streems replication issue
Hi Gurus,
Just thought of checking with you guys on one of the issue which i have got Oracle Streams replication between two database oradb1 and oradb2 is inconsistent .
the data is inconsistent ... between the database.
I am not sure abt this any expert advive will be highly apprciated.Hi,
What version? How do you know it is inconsistent? Is it small enough to rebuild the target site from a backup of the primary?
if it's small enough, you can delete the erroneous transactions from the apply queue in the target database. In 11.2.0.1 and above, there is also a DBMS_COMPARISON package for this type of thing, which will identify and fix the data if you choose. I think under huge volumes of data though, you'll have to fix it yourself.
Also, inquiring minds want to know. Specifically, how did it get out of sync? We have found Streams to be quite robust (and cheaper than the $17K/CPU they want for GoldenGate) if you:
* Properly test and document your configuration
* Test failure/recovery scenarios for issues such as yours
* Lather/rinse/repeat

Issue in creating multiple Replication Sets....
Hi,
'Forgot to mention this particular issue that I used to experience whenever we have the DR exercise.
After the activity, all replication sets that were deleted has to be re-created. I used to do it from the GUI console where I manually re-create all the replication sets one after the other in a normal phasing.
But it seems that doing it in a normal speed tends other replication sets that is currently synchronizing to be unsynchronized and so I have to resume them again and wait for a while before I can proceed creating another one.
What could be the reason? Any workarounds?
Thanks! The firmware upgrade process is extremely robust and will only upgrade one component at a time (ignoring disks for the time being). Since the entire family is resilient to SPOFs, even a failed component or upgrade step will not cause loss of access to storage as long as you have a system built to best practices (multipathing / multiple paths etc)
Whilst upgrading, the downside is a performance hit as while the upgrade is in process, you effectively have degraded components which can affect cache / cache-mirroring etc.
Disks can't be done online in any sensible fashion so some downtime has to be scheduled for those.
Since you're doing disks anyway, it would probably be a good move to perform the other components at the same time.
I'm pretty sure you can arrange for a service engineer to perform the upgrade for you but of course, depending on your level of cover, this may be chargeable.
Upgrading firmware on these beasts is a simple task.
Of course there are two schools of thought
1) If it ain't broken, don't fix it
2) If we don't keep bang-up-to-date, we could suffer old bugs
One requirement should you require support services intervention may be that you will need to upgrade to the latest revs anyway - there are good reasons for this but when you're on the receiving end of that news, it's never welcome.
Do you have a professional services contact you could perhaps speak to about the risks / mitigation etc? -

No, it is not urgent. Urgent is when (1) people are dying or (2) you have a revenue generating production system that is down. And in light of (1), I often have doubts about the urgency of (2).

I've got an Oracle 8i server running well under Linux, and I'm looking to do a realtime update of a backup server, such that if a meteor hits the main server, I have a database ready to go. The backup server would not have to send any changes to the primary, but enough changes in a day that simply dumping/importing nightly isn't worthwhile. I'm told the Advanced Replication feature is what I need, but having used Oracle for all of two weeks, and most documentation being specific to the Windows version, I have no idea how to set this up. Tips?
One of my coworkers is expressing concerns about how up to date a standby server would be. This basically needs to be within a few seconds, does this take care of that?
Since this server will be used as a standby server
only, you do not need Advanced Replication.
You can find all the information you need on setting

I have setup golden gate replication between mysql 55 and oracle 11gr1. While trying to setup the initial load, I do'nt see any data push to oracle from mysql.
What could be wrong in my setup.? has anyone tried this kind of setup? i see the the report for replicat and it says data is not replicated. while extract shows that 4 rows from table are taken for insert.Hi Stev
I am trying to do the initial load process
On source (MYSQL 55)
database (ggtest and table test)
table test has
TEST(COL1 INT)
manager is running on default port 7809
manager parameter file is defined with (PORT 7809)
There is initial load extract (EINI01) -->
ADD EXTRACT EINI01
param file
EXTRACT EINI01
SOURCEDB [email protected], USERID ggsdev, PASSWORD ggsdev
RMTHOST 192.168.75.116, MGRPORT 7809
RMPTTASK REPLICAT, GROUP RINI01
TABLE ggtest.TEST
On target oracle 11gr1 (11.1.0.6)
Database in archive log mode, with minimum supplemental logging.
replicat process
ADD REPLICAT RINI01
Parameter file for replicat
REPLICAT RINI01
USERID ggs_owner, PASSWORD ggs_owner ( added in target database)
ASSUMTARGETDEFS
SETENV (NLS_LANG="AMERICAN_AMERICA.WE8MSWIN1252")
MAP ggtest.TEST , TARGET GGTEST.TEST;
-- to start the initial load ( mysql side has 4 rows, oracle has no row )
on source, i ran the command
ggsci> start extract eini01
I can see on report, extract has picked 4 rows for insert, but on replicat side no replication done. No error reported in gserr.log and there was a communication between source side of extract with traget side manager and sunsequently repliacat on target was started by manager and stopped normally. but no rows replicated.
Between oracle-to-oracle there is no problem. But my actual project is to setup from mysql to oracle (one way replication).
let me know if you need any other info.
Thanks

4. Enabling Session Replication
Now that we deployed our web application, we need to enable the session replication feature in the configuration. This will start the session replication services in each instance. We can do this using the CLI administration:
wadm> set-session-replication-prop --config=mycluster enabled=true
CLI201 Command 'set-session-replication-prop' ran successfully
wadm> deploy-config mycluster
CLI201 Command 'deploy-config' ran successfully -
Oracle 11R2 TO MSSQLServer via ODBC Hangs
Hi everyone:
I'm trying to connect from an Oracle 11.2.0.3 on Solaris 10 (64 bit SPARC) to a MS SQL server 2000 using openlink odbc drivers 6.1 for SQL Server.
We can do a tnsping to the remore database and it works, but when we try to query any table from SQL Server connections hangs always in the same step.

Thank you for your response.
I changed the library from sql_mt_lt.so to libodbc.so for HS_FDS_SHAREABLE_NAME as you suggested, restarted all services, but it keeps behaving the sam, it still hangs
