Oracle 7 into 10g

I have a Quick question and want to be discuss in the meeting.
Do anyone have experience to import Oracle 7 DMP into 10g Directly ?
Or do we need to first Import into 8i and then 10g.

Without an Oracle 7 database to test this with, I can tell you that you [should] be able to export from the Oracle 7 database using the Oracle 7 software, and then import into the Oracle 10 database using Oracle 10 software.
The only problem you might have is with various packages and procedures that may not compile in the Oracle 10 environment. Those will have to be dealt with individually. But I believe everything else will import fine. I've recently exported from 7.3.4 into a 9.2.0.8 without any problems.
Hope this helps...

• Problem logging into Oracle Designer 10G

Hello developers,
I've downloaded and installed Oracle Designer 10G on my computer. I've installed it using the installation wizard. I wanted to login. I have my username and password but not the connect string. I don't know what my connect string is now.
During the installation, I've encountered such a message:
Oracle Designer and Oracle8i client import and export tools need to be installed into different Oracle homes. You can use the LOCAL and TNS_ADMIN registry variables(set under both Oracle Homes in the registry) to save having to maintain multiple copies of your TNSNAMES.ORA file. Please enter any information you wish to be set and click OK to continue."
So under this message, a default entry of "C:\orant\net80\admin" appears whilst for field Local, I've entered "orahome" which I assume to be my database alias.
Later on, I found out about 10G so I removed the copy of 6i I've installed using Universal Installer and proceeded to download and install 10G. Now the error message Im getting when I tried to login without giving a connect string is that "The user does not have an installed Repository. Invoke the Repository Administrator Utility. " So from the start menu, I choose Repository Administration Utility but nothing happened.
Could anyone that have experience with this installation let me know what should I do? Im really looking forward to using 10G Designer.If this is not solved, then I'll resort back to using 6i. Maybe from there things are easier. Thanks in advance.

After some heavy googling the problem is solved.

it has package client_ole2 which allows you to have programmatic interface with excel application.
this is especially useful if the excel to be read is available in the client.

• Error while importing java class into oracle forms 10g

Hi
I have generated a web service client using jdeveloper 10g. It consists of complex type methods. I am trying to import the class files using java importer in oracle form 10g. I am able import all of them successfully except one. That one is the main method. Please see the error and suggest me how to overcome this error.
Exception occurred: java.lang.NoClassDefFoundError: oracle/jdeveloper/webservices/runtime/WrappedDocLiteralStub
Thanks in advance

Do you see oracle/jdeveloper listed in "Import Java Classes" when you try to import?
If not, make sure you add C:\DevSuiteHome_1\jdev\lib\jdev.jar to FORMS_BUILDER_CLASSPATH in registry
Also excetion indicates: oracle/jdeveloper/webservices/runtime/WrappedDocLiteralStub
If you typing it - type: oracle.jdeveloper.webservices.runtime.WrappedDocLiteralStub

• Oracle reports 6i to Oracle forms 10g migration

Hi,
I have .rdf files which were created on Oracle Reports 6i. I would like to migrate the .rdf files into Oracle Reports module which is present as a part of Oracle Forms 10g to generate PDF output.
Please let me know the detailed steps to be followed as I am a total newbie. Also I need to generate these reports on demand from a java 5 application (JSF 2.0).
Currently for ORacle reports 6i, I have the following code in my java application
rwrun60.exe g:\tomcat33\webapps\reports\web-inf\src\null userid=***/*** destype=FILE desformat="pdf" paramform=NO printjob=NO batch=YES desname=temp.pdf
1. What would be the equivalent for reports in ORacle Forms 10g ? I know there is an Oracle Apps server where ther report services reside. How to I invoke my report from my java application (residing on a weblogic server 10.3.6)?
2. What ould I do with the 6i .rdf files to upgrade them to 10g ?

I am trying to call an Oracle report i.e .rdf (which is located on the Oracle App Server) from my java EE 5 (JSF) application. The Oracle App server is Oracle Application Server 10g Release 2. I assume Oracle report generation capability is available in this release. I need to invoke the report from my Java JSF application on demand (whenever the user clicks a button on the web browser page, the report should appear on the browser as PDF) . My java application resides on Linux weblogic server.
Please let me know how it can be done ? I see rwclient.sh and another method to directly invoke using a URL. How do I do it on java, would a request.redirect() to the URL work ?
Also for hiding the params in the URL. keys need to be configured on the Oracle server right ?
Also if we use rwclient.sh or the URL based invocation, would there be any issue in concurrency when multiple users request the same report at the same time ?

• Oracle DB 10g XE on Windows Server 2008 R2 64bit

Hello to everybody!
I have and old pc with Windows Server 2003 (32 bit) where i've installed Oracle DB 10g XE. Everything works fine.
Now i have to migrate the DB from that old machine to a new one with Windows Server 2008 R2 64bit.
I've tryied to install the Oracle DB 10g XE into the new server but, after installation is finished, i wasn't able to open the DB homepage at http://127.0.0.1:8080/apex. It said "This page can't be displayed". I try with SQLPLUS but after i insert the admin credentials i obtain these lines:
ERROR:
ORA-01034: ORACLE not available
ORA-27101: shared memory realm does not exist
Where can be the problem?

>> ORA-01034: ORACLE not available
Database is not running. Most likely the installer did not complete all its tasks, it can happen.
For windows, the database service has to be set up (see Start/Run/services.msc), services started, installer creates the database, and quite a few other setup chores. If the database creation fails, all the other stuff is not relevant.
Under the <drive:>oraclexe folder there *should* be a datafiles (*.DBF) files somewhere. Can't recall the exact location for 10g. Try file explorer and a search for *.dbf files, that will probably come up empty.
Note the requirements, at Oracle® Database Express Edition it calls for x86, not x64. The 11g XE also has lots of trouble getting a successful install on x64 as well, note the Download page states "does not work on x64" although some folks have gotten it to work.Try the deinstall steps, and use a right click/run as Administrator that *might* get past the UAC glitch that happens on the later OS versions.

I`ve used this tutorial:
http://www.oracle.com/technology/sample_code/tech/java/jsp/callout_users_guide.htm
used oracle as 10.1.3 web service callout pack for 10g v10.1

dude if you are using jdeveloper 10.1.3.x for development of web service the library you have loadded into database dwwsclinet etc or sopa.jar or mail .jar will not work
for getting the output for the web services developed on jdeveloper you need following file to upload on database
wsclient_extended for 10.1.3.x.0 where x stands for your version
wsclient_extended.jar which can be downloaded from
http://download.oracle.com/otn/java/oc4j/1013x0/wsclient_extended_1013x0.zip the stands for subversion
xstands for your version
after downloading above file upload it
open up the socket by command
on SYS schema
SQL>call dms_java.grant_permission('YOUR_SCHEMA','SYS:java.net.SocketPermission','<IPaddress ofcomputer>:<portnumber>(eg 10.8.11.98:8888)','connect,resolve');
SQL>call dms_java.grant_permission('YOUR-SCHEMA','SYS:java.util.PropertyPermission','*','read,write');
SQL>call dms_java.grant_permission('YOUR-SCHEMA','SYS:java.lang.RuntimePermission','createClassLoader','');
SQL>call dms_java.grant_permission('YOUR-SCHEMA','SYS:java.lang.RuntimePermission','getClassLoader','');
SQL>call dms_java.grant_permission('YOUR-SCHEMA','SYS:java.lang.RuntimePermission','setContextClassLoader','');
SQL>call dms_java.grant_permission('YOUR-SCHEMA','SYS:java.lang.RuntimePermission','setFactory','');
SQL>call dms_java.grant_permission('YOUR-SCHEMA','SYS:java.lang.RuntimePermission','setIO','');
SQL>call dms_java.grant_permission('YOUR-SCHEMA','SYS:java.lang.RuntimePermission','shutdownHooks','');
SQL>call dms_java.grant_permission('YOUR-SCHEMA','SYS:java.lang.RuntimePermission','accessClassInPackage.sun.util.calender','');
Now make a jar file which contain all your class files of proxy put that jar file on database an compile that jar file on database it should work than convert it into java stored procedure and invoke that procedure

• Difference in select for update of - in Oracle Database 10g and 11g

Hi, I found out that Oracle Database 10g and 11g treat the following PL/SQL block differently (I am using scott schema for convenience):
DECLARE
v_ename bonus.ename%TYPE;
BEGIN
SELECT b.ename
INTO v_ename
FROM bonus b
JOIN emp e ON b.ename = e.ename
JOIN dept d ON d.deptno = e.deptno
WHERE b.ename = 'Scott'
FOR UPDATE OF b.ename;
END;
/While in 10g (10.2) this code ends successfully (well NO_DATA_FOUND exception is raised but that is expected), in 11g (11.2) it raises exception "column ambiguously defined". And that is definitely not expected. It seems like it does not take into account table alias because I found out that when I change the column in FOR UPDATE OF e.empno (also does not work) to e.mgr (which is unique) it starts working. So is this some error in 11g? Any thoughts?

It seems that my question was answered here - http://stackoverflow.com/questions/2736426/difference-in-select-for-update-of-in-oracle-database-10g-and-11g

The behaviour seems like it really is a bug and can be avoided using non-ANSI syntax. (It makes me wonder why Oracle maintains two query languages while dumb me thinks that this is just a preprocessor matter and query engine could be the same).

• Details on TAF support in Oracle AS 10g

Hi experts,
I'm currently writing a Master's Thesis on High Availability of Applications based on Sun’s JEE platform.
With Oracle being one of the big players in this market I'm going to investigate the features of the Oracle product stack and compare it with other solutions including opensource.
At the moment I'm looking for details on TAF-support in Oracle AS 10g. Let’s assume one has installed the latest release of the Oracle 10g database in a RAC configuration on two or more physical nodes to store the applications data. Let’s further assume one has set up the latest release of the Oracle AS 10g on different hosts building an AS farm with clustered OC4J-instances. Now one would like to connect a JEE application running within these OC4J-instances to the RAC database.
Therefore one can configure an OC4J datasource to use a service definition supporting network failover and transparent application failover (TAF) specified in the tnsnames.ora on the AS hosts or directly describe the service in the data-sources.xml. To my knowledge only datasources configured to use the OCI client can be used with TAF. Everything right so far?
Now the interesting part. The best what TAF can do is automatically reconnect to the next known database node if it’s current node is not reachable or fails, and continue processing an open cursor for select so that the application can continue to use it’s current connection.
If the application is running a database transaction it can only be rolled back and rerun after failover.
In a good old plain Java application one had to implement the OracleOCIFailover interface and register a callback with the db connection in order to receive failover events. Therefore you need to process the query in a different thread.
In a JEE server only the container should be responsible for creating threads, or? How does the Oracle AS support TAF? How can a user application get notice of a failover and react appropriately. Is the behaviour always the same no matter one decides to implement the data access via simple DAOs or entity beans (CMP/BMP)? I assume it is safe to use a connection pool and container will take care of the necessary cleanup jobs, right? Will the complete connection pool be reconstructed or only connections to the failed node?
Does the application server internally use these OCI callbacks and wrap them up into special Exceptions? Is there anything an application programmer has to do in order to make his data access code ready for TAF, especially in case of failover while the db is processing transactional code?
Any insights and/or code snippets would be greatly appreciated!
Ah, one last question. From a HA perspective is it generally a bad idea to put application logic into the database (use CDM RuleFrame and so on) as there is no support in preserving package states or do you think this makes no difference as one has always to repeat everything since the last commit point no matter in which tier the code resides?
During the next days I’m going to set up the above environment for testing. A 10.0.2.1 RAC on RHE4 is already up and running fine. AS 10.1.3.0.0 on RHE4 is following today or tomorrow.
Many thanks for all answers!
Regards,
Eric

Hi,
well, I thought I could dig into the OC4J documentation before installing the server. After reading the OC4J Service Guide for 10.1.2 and 10.1.3 I'm a little bit confused.
First I read the 10.1.2 Service Guide and almost everything seemed to be clear. I found a lot of answers to the questions above. I'd like to sum them up. Please correct me if I got something wrong!
- TAF only works on top of OCI driver
- TAF can be used with connection pooling
- OC4J takes care of connection pool cleanup (OC4J and OCI Pool)
These two pools are mentioned. It's not clear to me how they work together. Do one of you know some source where I can get more information about this?
- after a failover all connections in the pool are checked by OC4J and only alive ones will survive
- in case of a failover TAF issues an exception
- the application has to catch this exception and acknowledge with a rollback, after that the transaction can be restarted (this seems to be the responsibility of the applications code, oc4j will not replay something automatically; If I got it right, CMP entity beans will be an exception to this rule - there OC4J will proceed transparently...)
- the application can use OCI callbacks to customize the failover behavior (well I would like to see some source code example here, as I can't imagine how this could look like)
After that I read the 10.1.3 service guide. The section about datasources in conjunction with HA is much shorter. Besides TAF new? mechanism is introduced, namely Fast Connection Failover (FCF). There is not much information about it but references to the JDBC Guide, because FCF is a feature of the implicit JDBC connection cache. Where cache seems to be just another word for pool.
By the way, the example on p. 4-36 looks wrong at first glance. Enabling FCF and setting:
<property name="fastConnectionFailoverEnabled" value="false"/> ???
Seems to be a typo in the docu, or?
I got the impression, that the text is written as if FCF being TAF's successor, without explicitly saying this. Is this right?
So I proceeded reading the JDBC Developer Guide to lean more about FCF. Here is what I learned:
- since 10g available
- FCF is driver independend (you can also use the thin driver)
- prerequisites are implicit connection cache (pool) enabled, ONS must be configured
- in case of a failover the transcation will be rolled back automatically (not by the application); whereas using TAF you have to use a rollback to acknowledge the error
- only one exception ORA-17008 to catch
- application has to obtain a new connection from the cache (pool), where as using TAF the old connection object can be used, and resend the transaction (same as with TAF)
So when to use what? The comparison on p. 27-8 was not very helpful to find an answer to this question.
On p. 28-1 one can read that TAF does not work with the OCI Connection Pool. That's seems to be contradictory to the statement in Service Guide of 10.1.2 that OC4J takes care of both pools (OC4J and OCI). Or has something changed in 10.1.3 in that regard? May be this is because of the changes in Cache or Pool Management?
What is the advantage of using TAF within OC4J in 10g, if there is any?
What about select statements with FCF? You can only read about transactions. I'd assume the application would get the same exception executing a query (ORA-17008) as executing a transaction, right? So TAF should have the advantage of transparently proceeding selects after a failover. Am I right?
I'd love to see more examples and comparisons of TAF and FCF.
Regards,
Eric

• Exception when calling web service from Oracle forms 10g

Hi All,
I am trying to integrate Oracle Forms 10g(V 10.1.2.0.2.) with Web Services.
There is a java class named 'authenticate' which is generated using Oracle JDeveloper.
This class is included in the forms application by using "Import Java Class" feature.
Forms built the following funtion based on that class:
-- Method: authenticate (Ljava/lang/String;Ljava/lang/String;)Ljava/lang/String;
FUNCTION authenticate(
obj ORA_JAVA.JOBJECT,
a0 VARCHAR2,
a1 VARCHAR2) RETURN VARCHAR2 IS
BEGIN
args := JNI.CREATE_ARG_LIST(2);
JNI.ADD_STRING_ARG(args, a0);
JNI.ADD_STRING_ARG(args, a1);
message('here1');
RETURN JNI.CALL_STRING_METHOD(FALSE, obj, 'mypackage/AuthenticatorWebServiceServiceStub',
'authenticate', '(Ljava/lang/String;Ljava/lang/String;)Ljava/lang/String;', args);
message('here2');
END;
However when the above code is invoked it shows the message 'here1' on the form and then throws the following exception: java.lang.Exception: java.lang.ClassCastException
Please suggest me what's wrong with the code. I appreciate your time and help.
Thanks,
Scott.

My primary skill is PL/SQL but the only information I found on Oracle's site to call a web service from a 10g Form was creating a jar file and importing the java class. Since I don't want to ask our corporate IT to make changes on the UNIX box for the jar files I went a different route.
I use UTL_HTTP.BEGIN_REQUEST to call a URL then load I load the data to a table as a CLOB since we have more than 4000 characters. Now I need to parse the XML and load it into a form. I have never done this so if there is a helpful site please let me know. I have looked at several sites but none do what I want.
Thanks

Hello,
Is anybody here who succeeded to install the connector for Oracle Database 10g into OIM 9.1.0?
If yes please give me a hint
Have a nice day!

Thanks guys for the quick responses.
But I have tried both the options for putting the jar in Third Party and also by uploading using the OOTB utility UploadJar.sh.
But it is giving the same error.
I have tired rebouncing the server and also Purge cached, but no success.
Just to mention again, I have tried with all the last 3 postgres JDBC4 driver available on the site (u mentioned).
So, any other clue?

• Upgrading from Oracle 9.1.0.8 to Oracle Database 10g Release 2 (10.2)

Hello everyone;
We are in the process of looking into upgrading from our current Oracle 9.1.0.8 to Oracle Database 10g Release 2 (10.2): Windows
We would like to download and install the 10.2.0.1 base release (Oracle Software). When I go on SAP Marketplace
https://websmp210.sap-ag.de/oracle-download and goto the (Software Download) section and click on
Oracle 10.2 Software (32-bit versions) to download I receive a error NO DATA AVAILABLE.
Is there another area to download the Oracle Software? or do I need to purchase a CD from SAP or can I download this base release straight from Oracle?
Thanks for your time and have a great day.

Hello Pellegrino,
just download it from the SAP container for each product .. for example
-> Installations and Upgrades - Entry by Application Group -> SAP NetWeaver -> SAP NETWEAVER 7.0 -> Windows Server -> ORACLE

Are you struggling with developer productivity in a J2EE environment? Are you looking for a 4GL-like J2EE Development environment? Do you want to migrate your Forms to J2EE applications? Do you need to build a hybrid application using Forms for your power end-users and Java/HTML for field personnel or the internet? If you answered Yes to anyone of these questions, you need to look into JHeadstart.
Oracle JHeadstart 10g is Oracle Consulting's rapid component based development approach/toolkit for building J2EE applications. It enables fast, reliable, and repeatable development of complex transactional systems. It combines proven J2EE frameworks to implement the Model-View-Controller (MVC) architecture. By declaratively specifying your application in XML files using property editors and using the JHeadstart Application Generator, JHeadstart generates the complete application into these frameworks. The declarative nature of this approach allows you to optionally use Oracle Designer to generate or migrate your Oracle Forms to, Java/HTML. In short: JHeadstart provides you with 4GL-like productivity without jeopardizing the flexibility and openness of the J2EE architecture.
