Hi
Can anyone please confirm the latest date when version 8.1.7 or the DB will loose support?
Cheers

  • Strange scenario,Oracle can not display the data in mysql correctly

    I use Heterogeneous Service+ODBC to achieve "oracle access mysql"(any other method?),and now i find Oracle can not display the data in mysql correctly:
    -------mysql------------
    mysql> create table tst(id int,name varchar(10));
    Query OK, 0 rows affected (0.00 sec)
    mysql> insert into tst values(1,'a');
    Query OK, 1 row affected (0.00 sec)
    mysql> select * from tst;
    ------------+
    | id | name |
    ------------+
    | 1 | a |
    ------------+
    1 row in set (0.00 sec)
    mysql> show create table tst\G
    *************************** 1. row ***************************
    Table: tst
    Create Table: CREATE TABLE `tst` (
    `id` int(11) DEFAULT NULL,
    `name` varchar(10) DEFAULT NULL
    ) ENGINE=MyISAM DEFAULT CHARSET=utf8
    1 row in set (0.00 sec)
    -------------oracle ------------------
    SQL> select count(*) from "tst"@mysql;
    COUNT(*)
    49
    SQL> select * from "tst"@mysql;
    id
    1
    SQL> desc "tst"@mysql;
    Name Null? Type
    id NUMBER(10)

    You can make the following query on the result page:
    "select * from the_table where movietitle = ? and cinema = ?"
    then you set movietitle and cinema to those which the user selected. If the resultset contains more than 0 rows, that means the movie is available.
    Below is the sample code, it assumes you have a connection to the database:
    PreparedStatement stat = myConnection.prepareStatement("select * from the_table where movietitle = ? and cinema = ?");
    stat.setString(1, usersMovieTitleSelection);
    stat.setString(2, usersCinemaSelection);
    ResultSet res = stat.executeQuery();
    if (res.next()) {
    out.print("The movie is available");
    } else {
    out.print("The movie is not available");
    }Now just add that to your JSP page. Enjoy ! =)

  • Oracle Legacy System to SAP Data Migration

    Hi Experts,

    Here is my few doubts:
    1. What is Oracle Staging?It is where ODI creates temporary tables. It does the transformation and if required cleans the data aswell.
    2. How Oracle staging is useful for data migration?ODI loads source data into temporary tables(staging) and applying all the required mappings, staging filters, joins and constraints. The staging area is a separate area in the RDBMS (a user/database) where Oracle Data Integrator creates its temporary objects and executes some of the rules (mapping, joins, final filters, aggregations etc.). When performing the operations this way, Oracle Data Integrator behaves like an E-LT as it first extracts and loads the temporary tables and then finishes the transformations in the target RDBMS.
    3. I see few ETL tools for data migration such as Informatica, Ascential Datastage etc. but our requirement is how can we use oracle staging for data migration?

  • Using Oracle BI Server as a Data Source for Third Party Tools

    I have been researching how to use the Oracle BI Server as a data source for two days now. I have not yet found a solution to my problem.
    We have a remote user who is pulling data from one of our Oracle databases using automated tools. This data base is essentially being replaced by Oracle Analytics. However, we do not want this user to get at the physical tables of Analytics, rather, we want the user to be able to connect to the Oracle BI Server itself, and issue Logical SQL to pull data.
    Here are the requirements which I need to be fulfilled:
    1) The ability for a remote user to connect to the BI Server as a data source.
    2) The remote user must be able to do this on a Unix box.
    3) The remote user must be able to automate the process of issuing SQL to the BI Server. (Command line interface is preferable)
    4) The solution needs to be easily implementable, that is, this solution will be implemented many times over.
    I found many articles explaining how to set up a Windows box to connect to the BI Server in this way. However, these articles outline how to use tools like Excel and Microsoft Query to pull data from the BI Server. Our current user is using SQLplus.
    If possible, I would like the user to continue using SQLplus as the tool for connecting to and retriving information from our BI Server. I have tested using SQLplus many different ways to no avail. I have also tried using other tools, such as Oracle SQL Developer.
    Is there a program out there that will fulfill the needs I have outlined above? Or, does someone know of a way to use SQLplus to connect to the Oracle BI Server as a data source? Or, is there a series of solutions which will fulfill the needs outlined above?

    I agree it would be inefficient but only because you are using OBIEE for something it was not designed to do. You are basically asking for a "DB feed" and that should designed using PL/SQL, DB Links, Web Services or whatever is your entreprise standard to send data from one system to another. Using OBIEE for this seems a bad architecture decision to me.You are correct, the BI Server is not really intended to be queried like another Oracle Database remotely. However, the reason we are trying to do it this way is twofold:
    1) We want to enforce data level security.
    2) The BI Server has been fine tuned for high performance.
    Forcing the end users to go through the BI Server rather than directly to the physical tables or other sorts of systems built on top solves both of these issues.
    I think you are wrong. I don't see why SQLPlus should be able to query the BI Server. The BI Server can sit on top of many different DBs not just Oracle, even flat files etc. So you can't really expect the BI Server to able to translate all that into Oracle SQL output so you can query it using SQLPlus. The BI Server is not an Oracle RDBMS.You're right again. The BI Server isn't an Oracle RDBMS, and I have been wanting to treat it like one. From the data I have gathered SQLPlus can't query the BI Server.
    However, my research has led me to realize that the BI Server supports the JDBC API. Therefore, (I should have went down this route in the first place) one can use the JDBC driver provided by Oracle (bijdbc14.jar) to interface with the BI Server. There are many programs and applications out there that support the JDBC API and let us connect to BI Server the way we want to. Furthermore, these programs are mostly platform independent, as they are mostly written in Java.
    Lastly, from what I understand the NQCMD program can be installed on any platform as well (provided by Oracle). This is another option to connect to the BI Server as well.
    Thanks for your help and your comments as I went through this process of discovery.

  • Newbie blues: Oracle Sql Developer showing different data from Sqlplus.

    Newbie blues: Oracle Sql Developer showing different data from Sqlplus.
    First of all; it would be difficult to know less about Oracle than myself.
    I just installed a recent copy of the server and am running SQl Developer 3.2.20.10.
    I made a small test table , borrowed some pl sql code to add rows, then wrote code to delete some rows. Lots of fun.
    In SQL Developer “Select * from t1;” now shows 7 records, which seems right.
    I wanted other views of the data and so logged in from the command line using SQLPlus.
    The same code here shows the table prior to the delete, with 600 plus rows. Needless to say I’ve logged out and back in again, with no changes.
    No fun ! What am I not understanding here ?

    did you ever actually issue COMMIT so other session can see the changed data?

  • Can I use Oracle SQL Developer to "Move" data?

    Hello,
    I'm new to Oracle and I'm trying to use Oracle SQL Developer to export data from one table (on server A) to another table (on sever B). I'm able to create a .ldr file but I don't know how to use the .ldr file in Oracle SQL Developer? I would appreciate any help you can provide.
    Thanks!

    Hi,
    The name of tables are different ?
    If I understood then try this below:
    e.g:
    C:\> exp user/password@connectionA file=maytable.dmp tables=SAFETYADMIN_TBL_0022_43
    C:\> imp user/password@connectionB file=mytable.dmp full=y
    After this import, then you can:
    [pre]
    C:\>sqlplus user/password@connectionB
    SQL> insert into SAFETYUSER_TBL_0022_44
         select * from SAFETYADMIN_TBL_0022_43;
    SQL> drop table SAFETYADMIN_TBL_0022_43;Feedback if this is not that you want.

  • What file format Oracle Database 11g can spool data w chinese characters?

    Anyone has any idea what file format Oracle Database 11g can spool data with chinese characters?

    I'm not sure this can work with SQL*Plus in character mode on Windows DOS mode. But this should work with SQL Developer: see Re: How to display Chinese characters in Oracle?

  • No Oracle SSO support for POSTing data to protected resource [yet]

    Hi,
    I am using OHS infront of JBOSS and redirecting all requests from OHS to JBOSS after SSO Authentication.
    Everything works fine except that I get 500 error when I try to post data from HTML form.
    When i click on a button on a JSP page that submits page with the Form Post, the request goes to the OHS and is not getting forwarded.
    OHS log shows the following
    127.0.0.1 - - [11/Sep/2007:08:57:23 -0400] "POST /Sample/protected/standard.do HTTP/1.1" 500 788
    Proxy_error.log shows the followin error
    [Tue Sep 11 08:57:23 2007] [error] [client 127.0.0.1] [ecid: 1189515443:10.6.2.137:268:5568:74,0] \n[OSSO] E09: No Oracle SSO support for POSTing data to protected resource [yet].\n
    Any idea?
    Thanks
    Srikar.

    This error does no occur in our dev or test environments, only production. A workaround for us was to disable SSO by commenting the line to load it in the file $ORACLE_HOME/Apache/Apache/conf/httpd.conf. The line to comment out looks like: include "/u01/app/oracle/product/mid/Apache/Apache/conf/mod_osso.conf" where the /u01/app... above is the expansion of $ORACLE_HOME/Apache/Apache/conf/mod_osso.conf.
    We do not use SSO for our application, so this is not a problem. I next plan to try to figure out why this behaves like this, so I can keep all the server configurations consistent.

  • Oracle 8i to 10g Express data migration?

    Howdy,
    I'm very new to Oracle so a lot of the terminology I'm not completely up to date on versus MySQL & MS-SQL.
    We have a new client who has an Oracle 8i system they have data in that we need to develop against and import from. We were looking into having them provide a copy of their DB that we would then run in a 10g Exp edition locally while we work on the data. The problem is I'm having a hard time finding documentation on how to actually perform this process? With MS-SQL I can make a backup file from an older version then import and the data is upgraded at that time, similarly with MySQL and their SQL backup files. What process would I need to do to restore/import an older 8i DB into a 10g type environment?

    Welcome to the forums !
    10g Express Edition has limited capabilities - see http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/B25329_01/doc/license.102/b25456/toc.htm#BABJBGGA
    If any of the features not available in 10g Express Edition are being used in the 8i database, you will not be able to use 10g Express Edition. You will need one of the other editions - see http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/B19306_01/license.102/b14199/editions.htm#BABJICBB
    How big is the 8i database ? You should be able to ask them to provide an export dump file (http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/A87860_01/doc/index.htm) that you can then import into a suitable 10g database (http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/B19306_01/server.102/b14215/exp_imp.htm#sthref2591)
    This process requires some knowledge / experience with Oracle. Pl also note that both 8i and 10g versions are de-supported, so do not expect too much help from Oracle Support if you run into issues.

  • Geocoding in Oracle with the 2008 TIGER data

    Hello everyone,
    I am new to Oracle Spatial and am wondering if it is possible to use the 2008 TIGER shapefile data with Oracle Spatial's Geocoding package. From the information that I have read so far, it looks like I would have to convert the TIGER data into a specific format (the GC_ tables) in order for it to be Geocoded. So I guess my questions are as follows:
    Is this even possible?
    If it is possible, how difficult would it be to convert the data?
    Are there any tools/resources out there to help with this?
    Is Navteq the only company that supplies data in the proper format to be used by Oracle's geocoding package? I did import their sample data and get a proof of concept working with that pretty easily, but due to the cost of the data, using their data does not appear to be an option for us.
    Thanks in advance,
    John

    Hi,
    I am unsure if the tiger data includes the attribution required for the Oracle geocoder to work.
    Have you been quoted a price by NAVTEQ? Most customers are surprised by how affordable the geocoding data is.
    Please feel free to contact me: daniel dot abugov at navteq dot com

  • How Oracle to deal with the data lose?-----QNo.104

    In incomplete recovery,some data will be lost. How Oracle to deal with it?
    For example, at 9:00am, you find that it is a mistake to drop a user(you dropped it at 8:30am). But other users' transactions are in progress. A lot of data is input between 8:30 and 9:00. If decide to make a incomplete recovery, does this means all the data input between 8:30 and 9:00 will be lost?

    For example, at 9:00am, you find that it is a mistake to drop a user(you dropped it at 8:30am. But the transactions are in progress. To make you clear, you can't drop the user while session connected to this schema.
    I dont think that you would loose any data.
    The other workaround for this issue would be,
    I would clone this on other server just before the user dropped, take the export and then import the user in the production.
    Is this satisfy your question?
