Oracle 9i - Datetime datatype on windows!!

Hi
I have an application which uses the oracle 9i/10g/11g as the backend databases and loads the specific libraries to use.
The data transactions (Read/Write) on a column of datatype, TIMESTAMP WITH LOCAL TIME ZONE are throwing different results on 9i version compared to 10g and 11g versions.
All the databases has the DBTIMEZONE set to '-4:00 Hrs'.
For example, i am writing a value '01-JAN-2011 10:11:22' to the column, and reading back the value:
Oracle 9i Oracle 10g Oracle 11g
01-JAN-2011 06:11:22 AM 01-JAN-2011 10:11:22 AM 01-JAN-2011 10:11:22 AM
Please help me in understanding this weird behavior.
Thanks
Mahesh

  • Equivalent datatype in Oracle for datetime of SQL Server

    Hello Everyone,
I'm very much new to Oracle. I have been working with SQL Server since 3yrs. Currently I'm working with Oracle 11g.
What is the equivalent datatype in oracle for datetime in sql server with which has the format YYYY-MM-DD HH:MM:SS?
I tried with timestamp and date which didnt solve my prob.... Please help me in using the equivalent datatype for the format provided above...
    Regards,
    Bhanu Yalamanchi.

Oracle date format can be anything you want, either by default at the session level or preferably explicitly using to_char and a format mask.
    Format masks are documented here.

  • Datetime Datatype problem in Forms

    Hi,
I have just faced a problem some moment ago in Oracle Forms . Firstly , informed you that i am using Forms [32 Bit] Version 10.1.2.0.2 (Production)
Ok, i have a field named ENTRY_TIMESTAMP. I kept 'Datetime' datatype there in forms level. Now if i change anywhere on that particular form, ENTRY_TIMESTAMP datatype changed from 'Datetime' to 'Date'. You can also check it by making a form of this scenario.
I don't know , is it a bug or any others code/process is responsible for this kind of changing ?
    Any idea ?????????????

Exactly i don't know, is it bug ? but thinking so as same case happened for form version 6i
But it not happened for form version *10.1.2.3* To upgrade you need patchset from support.oracle.com / metalink.
If your have valid support contact then you can able to download.
    Hope this helps

Oracle Database supports four datetime datatypes: DATE, TIMESTAMP, TIMESTAMP WITH TIME ZONE, and TIMESTAMP WITH LOCAL TIME ZONE.

  • Migration from Oracle 9i 32 bit to Oracle 10G 64 bit on Windows 2003 Server

I am working on migrating Oracle 9i 32 bit to Oracle 10G 64 bit on Windows 2003 from Old server to new server. We have db around 500 GB and 3 schemas. I installed Oracle 10G on new server, created tablespaces, schema's blah blah and now doing export and import at schema level from old server to new server.
Import is taking more than 4 to 5 hours on new server. My manager is saying, window time is bit longer and he wants me to try possiblities to make this process faster. Can some one help me on this, to use the best possible method to complete this process faster?
Will below step work, if I try?
If I install, oracle 9i and 10g both on new server in different home directories and take the hot backup from old machine and restore on new machine in 9i home directory and use the upgrade configuration assistant from 10g and do the upgrade? Pls advice.
    Thanks in advance,

    It looks good.
I have one question in below steps:
To migrate an Oracle9i or older database to an Oracle Database 10g Release 1 (10.1) database for 64-bit Windows:
    1 Perform steps 1 - 11 in "Migrating an Oracle Database 10g Release 1 (10.1) Database".
2 Shut down the database on the 64-bit computer:
    SQL> SHUTDOWN IMMEDIATE;
    3 Start the database migration:
    SQL> STARTUP MIGRATE;
4 Migrate the database as described in Chapter 3, "Upgrading a Database to the New Oracle Database 10g Release" in Oracle Database Upgrade Guide.
In step 4, it says, migrate database as described in chapter 3. In chapter 3, it says, to do the upgrade the process using dbca or manually. Pls confirm whether do the upgrade process after issuing startup migrate or not.
    Thanks in advance.

When trying to install Personal Oracle 8.0.4 on a Windows 2000 machine, i get an Error:

No previous installation of Personal Oracle is present on this machine as it's a newly installed OS.
    Any Help would be appreciated

I tried installing Oracle 8i Personal Edition in Windows 2000. The installer loads and it start installing the files, except when it goes half way through the installation, it quits. • Oracle 8i Installation problem on Windows 2000

I had purchased a Oracle8i (MS/Windows NT CD (E-Commerce), part Number A94674-01 in the month of Jun 2000.
When I tried to install Oracle 8i personal edition of Windows 2000 ver.
The installation got completed smoothly. But after that I was not able to start my database and even Windows 2000 crashed after that. After every crash I reinstalled windows 2000 and oracle 8i but the result was same. My whole purpose of purchasing Oracle 8i on windows 2000 is getting defeated.

20 GB Hard Disk of 7200 rpm.
The primary O/S is Windows 98.

    They are like 2GB of each (C, D, E, F) and G 10 GB
C part ion has got Windows. And G has got windows 2000. There is enough space in all part ions.

  • Problem in istalling Oracle DB 11g r2 in windows 7 home premium 64 bit

    Hi All,
i am trying to install Oracle DB 11g r2 in windows 7 home premium 64 bit.
when i come to the step Select "Typical Install as the installation type from the following options, and then click Next:"
i am not able to the window itself , when i checked in the task manager , the setup.exe is not running in the process list ...
why its happening .. did i made any mistake.

This forum is specifically for XE (the 10g/11g Express Editions). From your post it seems your product of choice is a non XE edition.
See Database - Installation forum instead, {forum:id=64}.
Note that no Home or Starter editions of Windows are on the requirements list of the installation guide. Make sure all pre-reqs are followed, thoroughly.

So I Google for it and found that this is version mismatch (May be I am wrong) and it tells that I have to install WLS - 10.3.2 with ofm_pfrd_win_11.1.1.2.0_64 (1 to 4)
But I am unable to get wls version 10.3.2.
For better understanding I am listing my installers :
    (I) Windows 7 Ultimate 64 Bit
    (II) (Oracle 11g) win64_11gR2_database (1 & 2)
    (III) ofm_pfrd_win_11.1.1.2.0_64 (1 to 4)
    (IV)wls1033_generic.jar , wls1033p_generic.jar , wls1035_generic.jar
    (V)accessbridge-2_0_2-fcs-bin-b06

    (VIII)jdk-6u38-nb-7_2_1-windows-i586-ml , jdk-6u38-windows-x64
    (IX) oepe-wls-indigo-installer-11.1.1.8.0.201110211138-10.3.6-win32

    (XIII)oepe-indigo-installer-12.1.1.0.1.201203120349-12.1.1-win64
After the installation while configure the forms reports, I am stuck while creating domain.
    steps I follow is :
    (i) Install Windows 7 Ultimate 64 Bit
    (ii) (Oracle 11g) win64_11gR2_database (1 & 2)
    (iii) wls1033_generic.jar
    (iv) accessbridge-2_0_2-fcs-bin-b06
    (v)ofm_rcu_win32_11.1.1.2.1_disk1_1of1
    (vi) ofm_pfrd_win_11.1.1.2.0_64 (1 to 4)
Please any body help, for the installation of oracle forms and reports.
    I have a formatted Windows 7 Ultimate
Where I have installed Adobe Acrobat Reader
    IIS server from windows installer
Now I want to know the exact procedure so that i can run the forms and report in my machine.
This is my first installation of Oracle forms & Reports, so please do not pre assume about my understanding (Like "to install this he surely did this environment settings" )
    Please specify all the steps
Furthermore if Another software I have to download then please tell me.
And I will be grateful if you specify the mistakes in my side.
    Looking forward with anticipation.

  • Installing Oracle 8.1.6 on Windows ME

    Howdy all!
I am trying to install Oracle 8.1.6 on Windows ME..
    Nice Welcome page.. click next
    File Locations page..
    Source Path: E:\STAGE\products.jar
    Destination Path:
    E:\STAGE\COMPONENTS\ORACLE.SWD.JRE\1.1.7.24\1\DATAFILES\EXPANDED\JRE\WIN32\B
    IN\..\\Oracle\Ora81
Now, I click on help and it tells me that for Windows platforms I should see
a "Name" field under Destination to create an Oracle Home name. No "Name"
field... oh well. I change the Destination Path field to: C:\Oracle\Home\
    and click next
The next screen I see says Error: There was a problem in accessing the
staging area. Please make sure the specified values for 'Source' and
    'Destination' are valid.
It appears to me that the Source cannot be anything different (my cd rom
is drive E after all) so I try the following for Destination path:
    C:\Oracle\
    C:\Oracle
    C:\Oracle\Home\
    C:\Oracle\Home
    C:\Oracle\Orawin\
    C:\Oracle\Orawin
and get the same error message.. and I get no further than this.
My partner has a Win 98 machine and I notice that Oracle displays the "name" field on her machine - but not on mine of course. Does this mean I have no hope of getting Oracle 8.1.6 to work on Windows ME?
    Thanks!

    Bugger.
Thank you very much for the info!
Oracle 1.0.4 installed ok and does work - one or two crashes here or there but it does the job.
