Oracle 9i installation hanging in "Clone Database Creation in Process"
Hi all,
I have been struggling in installing the 9i in my laptop.
Here is my setup,
OS: Windows Server 2003 Enterprise Edition SP2 in VMWare
Database: Oracle 9i 9.2.0.1.0
When it automatically comes to "Database Configuration Assistant", there are 4 steps.
Copying Database files
Initializing Database
Creating and starting Oracle Instance
Completing database creation
The 1st 3 steps has been completed and the installation just hangs at the last step when the completion rate is 88%.
Anyone got problem like this ?
Here are the details I have so far for the DBCA during installation process,
Listener Control complete.
Listener start failed. Listener may already be running.
Listener configuration complete.
Default local naming configuration complete.
Oracle Net Services configuration successful. The exit code is 0
Since I am completely new to installing DB, please help me to get rid of this frustration.
Thanks !
Regards,
Chris

Install hangs in "Clone Database Creation"
I try to install Oracle 11g on my computer. The installation pass all the checks and completes installing the files, then go to "Oracle Database COnfiguration Assistant".
In the "Database Configuration Assistant" dialog, it displays the progress bar to 46% and said "clone database creation in progress", and then the whole progress hangs for 8 hours without any changes. So I think the installer is dead.
I shutdown the installer and computer. Then restart. Then stop all the Oracle services, then call the deinstall to deinstall everything, remove all the registry entries and installed files.
I then restart computer and reinstall Oracle, but the installation hangs on the same progress again. I repeat this for several times. But always cannot complete the installation.
I think maybe there are some problems in cloning the database, so I check the log file, which is appended in this article. One problem is that the creating time of the log is about 8 am, but when I wait to 16 pm, the progress is still hangs and the creating/updating time of the log file is still 8 am, means Oracle does not update for about 8 hours.
The computer environment: Lenovo T500 laptop with WIndows XP(SP3) installed.

you are entitled to your opinion, regardless of how misguided it may be.
You don't have to convince me, about your reality.
If you want Oracle to install correctly, you need to make sure that NO errors get thrown.

Create database on RAC environment - DBCA hangs on clone database creation
Hi, friends!
I have two vm´s (vmware 2) with OEL 5 installed.
I´ve installed OGI and database software sucessfully. So, my crs stack is working fine in both two nodes.
However, when i use DBCA to create a database in this RAC environment, it hangs when it gets on "clone database creation", about 52% of the progress bar.
My DBCA logs don´t point any error out. It just hangs on..
I wait about 4 hours and it doesn´t move on.
I searched and found many cases like that, including here in OTN. But it seems nobody could find a resolution to this issue.
Is there any bug about OEL 5 and database 11gR2??
More details:
I apllied the patch "p8670579_112010_LINUX" on both OGI installation (before root.sh) and databae software install (also before root.sh).
Everything worked fine.
Sorry for the grammar errors.you can trace dbca, and you can found witch step is occurs problem.
can you paste here last 15-20 sentence of dbca trace file?

"clone database creation in progress" hangs
I am attempting to install Oracle 9i personal on an XP machine. When the install gets to "clone database creation in progress, it hangs. I cannot successfully stop that part of the install. I have to click the close button at the top right of the window to stop the install. I found the installActions.log in which I found the following:
Unable to read C:\Oracle\Inventory/Contents/OracleHomesList.ser. Some inventory information may be lost.Unable to read C:\Oracle\Inventory/Contents/LibsList.ser. Some inventory information may be lost.
The installer version is 2.0.1.6.0

# Not all the dependencies for the component Oracle Starter Database 9.0.1.0.1 are found. Missing Component oracle.rdbms.seeddb.compdss 9.0.1.0.1.
Does this tell me anything useful? Can anyone give any advice?Hi, I am new to the Oracle Database. I had recently installed Oracle 9i (9.2.0) on Redhat 9 a couple times and everytime the installation hung at the "clone database creation in progress (46%)" stage. I had also tried to install 9i with software only then use "dbca" to create database but still hung at the exact same stage. Installation of my 9i was from the hard-disk; my PC has 256MB of RAM but I gave 2GB of space to swap. I had a successful installation of Oracle 9i (9.2.0) on SuSe Enterprise 9 and the DB was running smoothly. Can anyone please give me some idea on how to resolve this problem? Your help is greatly appreciated!

Stuck at "Clone database creation in progress...."
Anyone could please tell me why?
I've tried to install Oracle9i on Solaris8...by its Default Configuation via ./runInstaller (GUI)
I just fill DB name....
,but now I stuck at "Creating and starting Oracle instance"(that is,Clone database creation in progress,50%)Hi,
have u follow all required steps before starting the installation?
Takes help from tahiti.oracle.com site.
if u r not getting any sucess then restart the installation and this time install it without creating the database.(choose software only option).
after completing the installation ,create the database by dbca tool and choose custom option.
Thanks

Oracle 11g Installation How to select Database Character Set
Hi,
I am Installing oracle 11g R2. After installation I had verified the character set it was AL16UTF16 but I wants to set AL32UTF8 charater set at the time of oracle installation only. I can't see the character set setting opetion at the time of installation because I am selecting the installation option " Install database softerware only" and after installation of oracle software manually I am creating the database. Please help me how can I set the character set at the time of oracle installation or at the time of database creation.
My question is-
How can I set the AL32UTF8 character set in above scenario?
Why It is showing AL16UTF16 character set even I did not define any thing? But is there any choice to set the NLS_CHARACTERSET at the time of manually database creation. Actually For creating the database i am using one shell script for seting the parameter values in init.ora file so can I set the parameter at that level(at the time of creating init.ora using manually database creation). like

Does anyone know what might be causing this? I have been having a hard time getting anything from Oracle installed on this Itanium machine and am wondering if Oracle really supports it.
Thanks for any help.Jeff,
You should post your database technical questions in the database forum for an appropriate response: General Database Discussions

Oracle universal installer hangs
hi friends,
I had installed redhat 5.5 on ibm.. And i want to install "Oracle Database 11g Enterprise Edition Release 11.2.0.1.0 ".
After execute runInstaller, OUI will check preReqs and display variables and then raise popup.. Then popup hangs at step 1 itself.. I couldn't click next button
at step 1 itself and i didn't get any error.
Before install redhat 5.5 hard disk was configured for RAID.. i had removed the RAID configuration and then install Redhat 5.5... Is there any possibilities to problem with that??
please help me
Thanks in advance

Amazon EC2 Installation using Oracle AMI - Installation Hangs
Hello,
I've been trying to install an Oracle AMI on EC2 (using the Oracle provided AMIs). However, every time I go through and use the defaults and the installation gets stuck at 87%. It does not finish. This has happened with AMIs for multiple releases of Enterprise Linux and Oracle Database.
I was able to install and access the latest Oracle BPM AMI (http://aws.amazon.com/amis/Oracle/4052) in order to test it, but no such luck with a DB AMI (such as http://aws.amazon.com/amis/Oracle/3647).
Does anyone know what could be happening?
Thanks for any pointers!Oracle 10gXE is free, Oracle does not charge you any fees.
To start with Amazon, you can have a free EC2 Micro instance which is suitable for Oracle 10gXE. Amazon offers this instance for new customer as free and i think it's for one year.
You safe if you use 10gXE and AWS Micro instance. -

I have the new Oracle 8i installer and here is why
I have been trying to get Oracle 8i on Linux and I feel that I
must share
my thoughts on the new Oracle installer with everybody.
I hate the new installer. I used to run the installer from
home over my
128Kbps connection while I was connected to the office machines,
because it
was simple text based. And Oracle 8i has changed all that!
I have nothing against GUI based installers, only when they have
a little too
many animated images that eat up bandwidth. I had to drive all
the way to
the office because I did not have sufficient bandwidth to display
the darn
ringing bell animated image. This is strictly the mentality of
Windows users
who like to work on the console of servers.
And check this out:
line 118 in my install log file at :
/usr/local/oracle/u01/app/oracle/oraInventory/logs/installActions.log
says :
platGroup = WINDOWS
And this is on Linux!!! Maybe the Oracle folks are forgetting
that Linux
users are a little too sensitive to these kind of mistakes. :)
This also supports my theory that the new installer is a gift
from Windows
programmers. Who are not too familiar with the idea of being
able to send
their video display to any computer around the world and work
from there.
A feature every Linux user takes for granted
There are numerous other bugs in the installer and other routines
of Oracle
8i for Linux. Some of them I will list here:
2. The installation types screen list 3 options:
Typical, Minimal and Custom.
Somehow Minimal takes more disk space (642 MB) compared to
Typical (585 MB).
Well that is what the installation screen says. I have not tried
to install
using the minimal install.
3. The installation cant figure out how much free space is
available on the /
partition. Is it that hard? Its gives warnings about how I may
not have
enough space.
4. dbassist cant find the cdrom if you try to install the default
database
from CDROM. It says cannot find CDROM even if you have all your
stuff under
/mnt/cdrom
5. The docs talk about software mount points and data mount
points /u01 /u02
/u03 and /u04 that I created, but I could not find anywhere to
specify them
like I was able to, with the last release.
6. "Oracle Protocol Support" section during the install shows no
options at
all. What happened to good ole Net8?
And many others. This product is a joke.

nullMy sentiments exactly. There are so many bugs in the
installation of this release that I have just about given up.
And I haven't even started testing the new features yet!
I've tried the install on RedHat 6.0 straight out of the box (no
patches or updates applied) and followed the OIG and release
notes to the letter. Clearly, no one at Oracle did the same,
because there are many problems during install. I finally got a
simple database running, but there are some real gotcha's along
the way.
Here are just a few of the bugs I've encountered:
1. Zero length library file $ORACLE_HOME/lib/libnjni8.so.
Netasst doesn't work without it. Someone said they posted the
source code to the comp.databases.oracle.server newsgroup, but I
can't find it.
2. Database Creation Assistant thinks dbmssql.sql is called
dbmssml.sql.
3. Building the Intelligent Agent with TCL 7.5 causes a cascade
of undefined references when running gmake -f ins_oemagent.mk
agent
4. Database Creation Assistant doesn't understand OFA. It wants
to put all of the database files /u01/app/oracle/oradata/<sid> !
5. Database Creation Assistant will sometimes prevent editing
the data file names to put them in OFA compliant directories.
I am appreciative of the free developer licenses for so many
Oracle products, but this is the worst Oracle install I've had
in 12 years.
