Oracle 9i simulating a windows service crash
Hello all,
I know this may be a bit fetched... I am trying to simulate a windows service crash in order to test a debug diagnostic software ( debug diagnostic ) on our W2003 server.
We have been experiencing random crashes of the windows Oracle service and I am trying to evaluate if this debug tool is will work for diagnosing my issue.
My question is how I can make the windows process crash via a db script which will eventually halt the DB.
Any ideas? much appreciated.

JMaybe I'm being overly simplistic, but since it's Windblows, why not just open task manager and kill the process?

Windows Servics Crash *$&@^#
After reimaging about 30 XP machines and at the end of the night it decied not to let my test user log in telling me that the domin was not available. So I restarted the windows services and then updated to 10.4.6 Still nothing works. I can log in a machine locally and connect & authenticate to the server and map a drive. But it will not let me log into the domain. I have tried everything. Here is a copy of my Windows File Service Log:

Any help would be great.

In addition, I removed all the unnecessary stuff from the code.
I have no reason to believe the crash occurs due to anything but the labview, because there is absolutly nothing else on the computer besides the OS.
and this error keeps hapening only when I run the program
Thanks again.

Windows service does not stop when DB is shutdown from SQL*Plus
I have a 11g XE DB in a Windows 7 machine.
The installation has created a Windows service called OracleServiceXE. It's status is STARTED.
I then login to SQLPLUS as sysdba and do a shutdown immediate;
SQL> shutdown immediate
Database closed.
Database dismounted.
ORACLE instance shut down.
Problem is, when I refresh the services, the OracleServiceXE is still showing as STARTED.
If I use the listener control to stop the listener the Windows service OracleXETNSListener changes status to BLANK.
Why is this?tvCa-Oracle wrote:
That service is a prerequisite Windows service to be able to start the database, but it is not the status of the database itself.
When you do start the database, he may or may not start the service automatically (not sure there), but it is a needed service, for each database SID, on Windows.
If you want to know what it is, open Task Manager or Process Explorer, only start the service (not the database), and see which OS process is launched.
AFAIK, this is only on Windows, there's no comparable component on Linux/Unix for this.
The Windows service OracleServiceXE has c:\app\oracle\product\11.2.0\server\bin\ORACLE.EXE XE as the Parth to executable.
If I click on the Services tab in Task manager, then right-click the OracleServiceXE and click Go to process, it show the oracle.exe in the processes tab.
If stop it, the service, from the Windows service control, the oracle.exe disappears and we cannot login to the DB.
If we start the service from the windows service control, the oradim.exe appears, then a second later the oracle.exe appears. Once the DB status of the Windows service is STARTED, the oradim.exe disappears.
So, I can start and stop the oracle DB with the Windows service. But If I stop the DB from sql*plus the the service is not stopped.... -
Application Restart and Recovery APIs doesn't work for windows services
I am using the Application Restart and Recovery mechanism (provided in Windows API Code Pack for Microsoft.NET Framework) to collect some information (i.e. stack information when there's an unhandledexception) before my windows service crash down.
It works well for windows form applications, but the callback method wouldn't be called if the host is a windows service.
I have checked the article: https://msdn.microsoft.com/zh-cn/subscriptions/downloads/cc303708
But it doesn't specify clearly whether it works for a windows service. It seems that the recovery will only be activated when the user interacts with the error dialog of Windows Error Reporting (clicking "close" on the dialog, for example).
So I am wondering is my guess right that the Application Restart and Recovery mechanism doesn't work for windows services. Or is there a better way to meet my requirement?I would suggest trying ARR if that's what you want to use. The restart portion won't work, but it doesn't need to as if you fail out of your service, the Windows service controller will handle recovery (up to and including restarting your service).
You configure those recovery actions either through code or one of the built in administrative tools for services such as services.msc.
DebugDiag/ADplus and similar tools ultimately do use built-in APIs; you don't need to add anything external to collect debugging information. You do however have to write a good deal of code to do somethings. It's pretty simple to use the unmanaged
function that I pointed out before and
MiniDumpWriteDump to write a minidump when you hit an unexpected error(the dbghelp.dll that comes installed with Windows has it so you don't need anything additional installed). You can even write a basic debugger that literally debugs a process using
only kernel32 functions (see
https://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/windows/desktop/ms679301(v=vs.85).aspx if you're interested).

PrintToPrinter() crashes windows service
Hi,
We have a windows service written in VB.NET using Crystal Reports 2008 SP2 (latest fix pack has also been applied).
It is a multithreaded solution that generates and prints reports from an Oracle 10 db.
The loading and printing of the reports are done in different threads so the interaction with the CR
runtimes could in theory occur at the same time from 3 different threads.
The printers that are used are network printers (from a print server) but they are added ("installed") on the server
running the windows service.
Our problem is that an unhandled exception (unmanaged I guess) is quite often thrown after
calling the method PrintToPrinter() which brings the whole windows service down and leaves
a general error message in Event Viewer:
.NET Runtime 2.0 Error
"Faulting application "myapp.exe", version 1.0.0.0, stamp 461c7030, faulting module ntdll.dll, version 5.1.2600.2180, stamp 41109655, debug? 0, fault address 0x00018fea."
(The "faulting module" is not allways the same but most often ntdll)
We haven't found any way to catch this exception. We have error handlers in all threds and we have also tried to
add a global unhandled exception handler for UnhandledExceptions without any luck.
I'm aware of the fact that (introduced in .NET framework 2.0) this behaviour to bring down the current app is "by design" if an unhandled exception is thrown and not caught in a thread of the current app domain.
It seems that the application crash much more frequently when PrintToPrinter() is called at the same time from at least two of the app's threads.
We also had problems with the same app before upgrading to CR 2008 from the version of CR that comes with VS 2005.
The problem was exactly the same except that when calling the PrintToPrinter() method the thread hanged and never returned instead of crashing the entire app.
I assume the exception is thrown when CR is communicating with the print drivers but how to proceed?
Are there any logging done by the CR runtime?
Is there anyway to debug the CR runtime?
Anyone have experienced anything similar?
More info:
OS: Windows Server 2003
.NET Framework: 2.0
CR: Crystal Reports 2008 SP2 (latest fix pack)
DB: Oracle 10
Printers: Mostly HP LaserJet 4350
/jiijiijiiAnother option would be to use RAS to print your report, seems to work better than PrintToPrinter:
System.Drawing.Printing.PrintDocument pDoc = new System.Drawing.Printing.PrintDocument();
CrystalDecisions.ReportAppServer.Controllers.PrintReportOptions rasPROpts = new CrystalDecisions.ReportAppServer.Controllers.PrintReportOptionsClass();
CrystalDecisions.ReportAppServer.ReportDefModel.PrintOptions newOpts = new PrintOptionsClass();
pDoc.PrinterSettings.PrinterName = cboCurrentPrinters.Text;
rasPROpts.PrinterName = cboCurrentPrinters.Text;
rasPROpts.PaperSize = (CrPaperSizeEnum)
pDoc.PrinterSettings.PaperSizes[cboCurrentPaperSizes.SelectedIndex].Kind;
rasPROpts.PaperSource = (CrPaperSourceEnum)
pDoc.PrinterSettings.PaperSources[cboDefaultPaperTrays.SelectedIndex].Kind;
CrystalDecisions.ReportAppServer.ReportDefModel.CrPaperSourceEnum.crPaperSourceManual;
rasPROpts.JobTitle = "MYPrintJob";
rptClientDoc.PrintOutputController.PrintReport(rasPROpts);
MessageBox.Show("Printing report.", "RAS", MessageBoxButtons.OK,MessageBoxIcon.Information );

Windows Search Service Crashes on Windows Server 2012 R2
Hi,
I'm running Windows Search service on a Windows Server 2012 R2 (24GB RAM, 8-core proc). The index catalog has a little over 2 million items (files and folders indexed).
Every once in a while this service crashes, and either remains in limbo or automatically recovers and restarts the index from zero. I'm trying to find out information about what may be causing the crashes and about how to prevent them. Unfortunately, I don't
seem to be able to find much about the Windows Search service on Windows Server 2012 R2. So anyone who may have input on this, please chip in.
Additional info:
- As mentioned above, the server OS is Windows Server 2012 R2. This is a physical server with 24GB RAM, 8-core proc and over 2TB of storage.
- This server acts as a DC and as a File Server. In addition to this and Windows Search service, there are no other major services running here
- Symantec Endpoing protection is installed and running on this server, but I've made sure to exclude the Window Search database from SEP
Here are some of the errors that are generated when the issue happens:
The error below may show up in the event logs. If it shows up more than once, the indexing service has likely crashed and won't recover.

Description:
A timeout (30000 milliseconds) was reached while waiting for a transaction response from the WSearch service.
I attempted to stop the indexing service, but it didn't stop. I noticed though that the indexing GUI started responding as soon as the
the service stop command failed. The indexing service seems to have picked up where it was (~300K items) and continued indexing.

Thanks for your post.
To resolve this problem, use the Registry Editor to change the default timeout value for all services.

Unable to start Oracle Process Manager from the windows services for OBIEE
Hi,
I have OBIEE 11g installed on a 32-bit windows machine. Of the two windows services installed, I am unable to start the Oracle Process Manager. When I try to start it I get the following error:
Error 1053: The service did not respond to the start or control request in a timely fashion.
At the back end, this service is calling the file opmn.exe which is placed at MIDDLEWAREHOME\Oracle_BI1\opmn\bin. On trying to execute this file the error we get is:
The procedure entry point longjmp could not be located in the dynamic link library orauts.dll
I have tried replacing the orauts.dll file, but to no avail.
Please let me know if you have any clue regarding what is to be done.
Thanks
NamanHi Naman,
This error occurs for the following reasons,
*Path variable is not set properly
*Multiple Oracle homes exists in the same machine.
Follow the below steps and let me know if it works,
1. Select My Computer -> Right Click -> Properties
2. In the System Properties screen go to Advanced Tab
3. Click on Environment Variables
4. In the System Variables section select PATH variable & Click edit
5. Now you will find that it will contain invalid directories. Remove the incorrect entries. This may happen when you have multiple oracle homes in the same machine
6. Restart the service.

Windows 8.1 - All services crashing repeatedly!
Hi,
I recently bought a HP laptop. It came with a HDD. But I added an mSATA SSD and cloned it to my SSD. Everything went fine. But recently I upgraded to Windows 8.1. Then my PC started behaving weirdly! After the update, the system wouldn't boot
to shell (explorer). After restarting several times and I spawned explorer.exe from taskmanager. Even that I didn't help. Then after observing the taskmanager for a while, I noticed an exe which was consuming some CPU. I killed that exe and my PC started the
shell properly. Then after a restart, I am not able to update anything. Even though there are 12 updates, I am not able to select and install them. Windows Update merely shows as though it's updating and then nothing happens and ends with a 800706BA Code error.
Then I checked event viewer, I found out that there are many services (All system services) crashing frequently and then they are being restarted by service control manager. I am planning to downgrade to windows 7 if there is nothing that I could do!
Thanks in advance,

Oracle SOA Suite (10.1.3.3.0) install as Windows service
Hi Guys,
This is a repost. Since the original thread was kinda hijacked, I think maybe I should start a new thread.
I was installing Oracle SOA Suite (10.1.3.3.0) on Windows Server 2003.
Original issue: by default installation, 10gAS cannot run as windows service.
Following MetaLink Note, I manually created OreacleMyHomeProcessManager service, after start this service, seems everything works fine now.
However, in original MetaLink Note it asked to create two services, another one is OracleMyHomeASControl - but the nmesrvc.exe file cannot be found anywhere in my installation, so I did not create it.
My questions are:
1. Do I really need to create the 2nd service?
2. Why the 10gAS works fine without this 2nd service?
3. Without 2nd service, any potential problems it may cause?

Oracle service orcl not found in windows services
hello
i'm facing a very serious problem. MY server ORacleserviceorcl not found in services. all services currently up and running. but ORCL service not show there and my database is down how i start my database. i found this problem first time. plz help me how to Start oracle. my ORacle version 10g on windows server 2003Niall,
Do you think that the OP should try the following command to re-create the service:
C:\> ORADIM -NEW -SID ORCLAs far as I have been able to determine, that command will not cause an issue, and will return an error if the service already exists.
To the OP: It is possible that a utility, such as HiJackThis, was used to remove the service, the Windows registry is corrupt, someone used ORADIM to delete the service, someone was hacking away in the registry and accidentally removed the entry for the service, or any number of other possibilities (I am not sure if MSCONFIG will remove a service when that program disables the service, but that might be another possibility, and dropping the database is another possibility).

Added the note about dropping the database as a possible cause - see if the datafiles still exist. -
Missing windows service for Oracle Enterprise manager
I have installed Oracle database 10G R1 (without seed database), and applied patchset 10.1.0.4. I have used the DBCA to create a database instance, which was created successfully (see note1).
However the windows service for the OEM DBconsole has not been created. I have tried to lookup the manuals how I can manually create this, but with no success. Please can somebody point out the correct procedure?
Best regards,
Jesmond
Note1:
If using DBCA the optional example schema are selected and saved to scripts, the calling script <ORACLE_SID>.sql must be amended to move the line below to the last entry:
@E:\oracle\product\10.1.0\admin\ebuscon\scripts\sampleSchema.sql
This is due to the fact that the sample schema script has an "EXIT" statement which will cause the creation script to terminate prematurely.I think you have a similar problem as described in
Problem starting EM 10g
emca did not run, on Windows it also creates the corresponding service. -

I've found sollution for BI installed as another server in Weblogic (AdminServer and bi_server1). Also I can start Weblogic as Windows service but BI doesn't start. Is it possible to set BI as Windows service?
