Oracle BPM Workspace vs. Custom Inbox

How many of you are using the out-of-the-box Workspace application? Have any of you built a custom inbox application using PAPI or PAPI-WS? If you have built a custom application, did you use PAPI or PAPI-WS?

We are using OBPM and interact with the process through a webservice and PAPI, from a fat client (Eclipse Rich client platform). The reason for choosing RCP is that we have strong requirements on how the client should look like, and not use the tasklist approach etc. We chose not to go with papi-ws since that would require the client to know more about the actual process that we would like. Instead we are using a service component that offers a cleaner task-oriented interface without the OBPM specific details. From the service-component we are using PAPI.

BPM Workspace with custom SSO

We need to develop a new Single Sign On security provider to automatically authenticate Oracle BPM Workspace application.
Following some samples and tips from Oracle Forum, blogs[1], OTN Samples[2], and also the documentation[3] we build a new Assertion Provider.
We created a new MBean type, implemented the classes AuthenticationProvider, IdentityAsserter, and installed it at MBeanTypes folder at Weblogic Server.
The new Assertion Provider appears at realm providers and was configured without errors.
In this first test we develop a very simple authentication, just decoding the username from the new token and trusting it.
But when we try to call the BPM Workspace passing the new token in the http headers, seems nothing happend: the BPM Workspace login page it is opened and there isn't any message in the log indicating that the new provider has been used.
In fact we need to develop a SSO that receive the token at URL (not in the http headers) run a specific library to decrypt the token, check the token validity and proceed with the authentication. But at now we haven't even a simple sample working ...
Is it possible to have SSO at Oracle BPM Workspace only configuring a provider at Weblogic realm or we need to config/hack something at BPM Workspace application?
BPM Workspace web.xml it is already configured by default with these options:

Is there an Audit provider configured, which collects and stores the security logs.
To my knowledge, WebLogic uses the same cookie name (<code>JSESSIONID</code>) for all web applications on the server.
That way, no matter what type of authentication method is used in a particular web application, an authenticated user will have
single sign-on to all other web applications in the server.
If you want to have a global single sign-on a good solution would be to use Oracel Single Sign-On (http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/E17904_01/core.1111/e10043/osso_d_10g.htm)
With your own implementation how is the authentication token mapped to a username?

Can't Start Oracle BPM Workspace

I'm trying to start oracle BPM workspace through this URI http://localhost:7001/bpm/workspace but it gives me an error which is:
Error 404--Not Found
From RFC 2068 Hypertext Transfer Protocol -- HTTP/1.1:
*10.4.5 404 Not Found*
The server has not found anything matching the Request-URI. No indication is given of whether the condition is temporary or permanent.
If the server does not wish to make this information available to the client, the status code 403 (Forbidden) can be used instead. The 410 (Gone) status code SHOULD be used if the server knows, through some internally configurable mechanism, that an old resource is permanently unavailable and has no forwarding address.
If anyone know about that,please help me.I can't complete my semester project_

Most likely you didn't check the 'Oracle BPM Suite'/'Oracle BPM Suite for developers' when you configured the SOA domain. Go to '<YOUR_MIDDLEWARE_HOME>\Oracle_SOA1\common\bin\' and run the config.cmd.
Choose 'Extend an existing Web Logic Domain' and then be sure to select 'Oracle BPM Suite'/'Oracle BPM Suite for developer'. Then it should work.

Error during addition of external link to oracle BPM workspace

I just want to add an external link to oracle BPM workspace and I've followed this tutorial :

but I am neither able to view the required, nor getting any error.
During deployment time I'm only getting this message :
Issues were encountered while parsing this deployment to determine module type. Assuming this is a library deployment.

Please help me to resolve the issue.

What I meant to say is check the logs at the time you are getting the error since sometimes the logs can be huge in size

How to display workitems values with Hyperlink in Oracle BPM workspace

In Oracle BPM workspace , is there any way to display hyperlinks for work items i,e., I want to give a hyperlink to the values displayed in the default columns under the work items. So that if user clicks any hyperlink , a new information window will be displayed.

If you create a derived table and pull the objects i guess it should work. Other wise this error will throw up.

Oracle BPM Workspace and IE 11 Compatibility issues

Hi all,
I am using Oracle BPM 10g and when I use IE 9 (till IE 11) or firefox latest versions , chrome,etc.. I get a pop-up with the title "execution" and unable to close the pop-up as well.
Can you please suggest if there is some configurations I should look into?
However, the strange thing is when I enable "Compatibility view settings" in IE 9 and higher, there are no issues seen and the workspace is rendered as expected.

Looks like IE 9 is not supported for some reason, but versions other versions of IE and Firefox are. You might have to reach out to Customer Support.

Different instance numbers in Oracle BPM Workspace 11g

Hi!!
I'm running the QuoteProcessLab, I launched the process and in the first activity 'Enter Quote Details' I just save the info, so I see the instance created with number 200043. If I login into te workspace with jstein I see the instance in the 'Process Tracking' Tab with the same instance number 200043. But if I did an advanced search in the 'Process Tracking' tab it retuns the instance with the number 20002.
The question is: why the instance number is different if i see it in the inbox and if i see it as a result of an advance search???
I found it a little bit complicated to trace an instance....

Hi Venkat,
The SOA Suite is responsible for storing all instances of BPM (active, suspended or terminated).
No more the concept of purging instances that were in version BEA Aqualogic 5x, 6x.
So the records of instances will be stored in the database "forever" until you make a DBA or a purge of data in the database.

How to develop a popup window in Oracle BPM WorkSpace?

Normally, after developing and deploying an application in OBPM, we can see that particular application in the left hand side of the Oracel BPM Work Space web page. On clicking the respective application, it will start working after logging with appropriate user.
My Question: On login with appropriate user, can i get a popup of that particular application and prompt me for inputs without clicking that link? if so how?

Hi,
You can either use the approach above, which is having an Attribute, type IWDWindow in B's Component Context. When you open the popup you store the reference. When you click close you get that reference back and destroy the window.
Note, I'd suggest you to have your "View" with no Close Button. Then in Component A you create another View that has an UIViewContainer with your Popup View. You can code the Close code in Component A.
This way you can do the same and have a code in Component B to close your window.
Other way would be having it as a Component variable and using the Component Interface on A (create a Method) that goes to Component A and destroy that instance.

Don't need to create test case, someone else has already reported it on Chrome bug list.
If this is a problem to you (and I think it will be if you have an applet with menus that is used on Chrome) perhaps you could follow this link,
and star the item. (I note that this also stops drop lists from working.)

How to expose a Delegate feature of BPM workspace to oracle primavera

Hi All,
We have Oracle primavera which is getting used for Project portfolio management and we are using BPM workflows to manage it. All the Human task pages are designed on ADF which can be accessed directly from Oracle Primavera application by users.
Now we want to implement a delegate feature of oracle BPM but as per my understanding that feature we can use through Oracle BPM workspace>> task actions list. But as all the tasks and UI's user is accessing using Primavera application hence is there any way that this delegate feature of oracle BPM workspace can be exposed to primavera application so that user can use this feature of BPM workspace in oracle primavera?
Please help me whether this thing is possible or not and if yes then how to go about it.

this is the list of your project variables. you can add and remove them as per ur requirement.
In workspace, once you login as a particiapnt you can modify your workspace by adding and removing the columns.
Or you can do the same thing by working in the presentation in workspace administrator!!
Just see in the middle of your workspace on page load - u can see an option as add/remove columns.
If this dont answer what you are asking for, pls describe more on what you need!

I have tried using the XPATH expression in Data Association to read an Extended User Property defined in Oracle BPM Workspace. Actually I'm using Active Directory for authentication, and as there is limitations for modifying existing AD to accommodate custom fields required for BPM Processes, I created an Extended User Property called Department Code and mapped it for all users who should be participating in the process. Now I want to read this Department Code and display in ADF Form (Human Task Form).
I tried something like this using XPATH Expr. in Data Association for Human Task :
ids:getUserProperty(bpmn:getProcessInstanceAttribute('creator'), 'departmentCode')
But it appears that using Identity Function exposed for Xpath we can only read some pre-defined set of properties associated with internal LDAP for weblogic. So please suggest what is the approach one should follow in order to read Extended User Properties defined in Oracle BPM Workspace.
I'm using Oracle SOA 12.1.3 and JDeveloper 11.1.17 deployed on Windows 7

The above issue is seen when we don't have proper FP patchset. after applying a patchset all issues sloved

The BPM Workspace is loading and failing to initialize the directory.xml

Hi BPM Specialists,
I installed BPM along with SOA suit in Windows XP box. Now I am getting failing to initialize directory.xml error and the workspace is not getting loaded.I am not able to locate a directory.xml file in my installed directory. Please let me know what needs to be done.Thanks a lot in adavance.

Thanks a lot for you reply.
I have installed OBPM 11g along with SOA suit.So whenever I am trying to restart the WL server, the log is showing the error where it is not able to initialize the directory.xml.
Could you please let me know what else can be done?
