  • INS-20802 Oracle Private Interconnect Configuration Assistant failed

Thought I would post what information I've gathered, after facing this error during install of RAC Grid Infrastructure 11.2.0.1 on Red Hat Enterprise Linux Server release 5.5 64-bit, as Oracle Support is once again unable to help. Maybe this will save someone else some time and the aggravation of dealing with lousy Oracle Support.
The error occurs after root.sh has successfully completed on all nodes. Oracle Net Configuration Assistant runs successfully, then Oracle Private Interconnect Configuration Assistant launches and subsequently fails with the following.
[INS-20802] Oracle Private Interconnect Configuration Assistant failed.
    /u01/app/oraInventory/logs/installActions2010-12-13_01-26-10PM.log
INFO: Starting 'Oracle Private Interconnect Configuration Assistant'
INFO: Starting 'Oracle Private Interconnect Configuration Assistant'
INFO: PRIF-26: Error in update the profiles in the cluster
    INFO:
    WARNING:
INFO: Completed Plugin named: Oracle Private Interconnect Configuration Assistant
INFO: Oracle Private Interconnect Configuration Assistant failed.
INFO: Oracle Private Interconnect Configuration Assistant failed.
I was able to find another error that coincides with the PRIF-26 error: "CRS-2324:Error(s) occurred while trying to push GPnP profile. State may be inconsistent."
I was also able to duplicate the PRIF-26 error by trying to add a non-existent network interface via oifcfg:
    ./oifcfg setif -global jjj1/192.167.1.0:cluster_interconnect
PRIF-26: Error in update the profiles in the cluster
My best guess is the Oracle Private Interconnect Configuration Assistant makes a call to oifcfg. When oifcfg makes an update or adds a public/private interface, some XML files are also updated or maybe cross-referenced. These files are located here: <grid_home>/gpnp/<host>/profiles/peer
Any updates/changes/addtions to the private or public interfaces include changes for the Grid Plug-n-Play component, which uses the XML files. If the interface name is not contained in the XML files, my best guess is that triggers the "CRS-2324:Error(s) occurred while trying to push GPnP profile. State may be inconsistent.
I verified everything was configured correctly; the cluster verification utility reported everything was ok. I also ran the cluster verifcation utility against the GP-nP:
    ./cluvfy comp gpnp -verbose
I also reviewed the public and private interfaces via oifcfg and they are correct:
    [oracle@ryoradb1 bin]$ ./oifcfg getif -global
    eth0 10.10.2.0 global public
    eth1 192.167.1.0 global cluster_interconnect
    [oracle@ryoradb1 bin]$ ./oifcfg iflist -p
    eth0 10.10.2.0 PRIVATE
    eth1 192.167.1.0 UNKNOWN
My conclusion is the environment is configured correctly, in spite of the error generated by the Oracle Private Configuration Assistant.

I understand that you have installed 11.2.0.1 not 11.2.0.2 because multicating must be enabled if you have installed 11.2.0.2 and you may face these sort of problems because cluster nodes would not be able to communicate with each other.
Please check ocssd.log especially on the first node because this file will give more inforamtion as to why first node is not able to push GPnP file. As you have executed cluvfy to confirm the GPnP but to confirm whether GPnP profile is accurate to just narrow down the problem, I would suggest you to try to start cluster in exclusive mode so that you can sure that GPnP profile is good.
Shutdown CRS on all nodes, if there is any hung processes then kill them before executing the fllowing command to start cluster in exclusive mode.
    $GRID_HOME/bin/crsctl start crs -excl
If you are able to start cluster in exclusive then it is sure that GPnP is correct and then next step would be to verify the private network.
    See how you goes.
FYI, I was recently analyzing the same sort of problems where cluster was not able to access GPnP profile and finally I found issues on my private network. Customer had enabled IGMP snooping, which was avoiding multicast communication over the private network but it was 11.2.0.2, which is not the case here.

    Hi all,
I've found a solution to this problem. So far I've been trying the installation through MSTSC by taking administrative control (through /console option). Later, I tried my luck by installing it through Net Meeting which proved to be successful.
Hope you can try the same and ged rid of the installation issues.

is it a reinstallation or a first one on a bare server ? if there were several attempts please be sure you cleaned evrything before launching the installation :
    - product directory
    - /etc/ora*
    - database
    - oraInventory
    - /tmp (I had a similar issue with remaining files in /tmp, even after rebooting)
If it doesn't work, check that you don't hit the NO-EXCUTE problem (see the OCS 10.1.2 release notes, look for "noexec")

Just in case anyone finds this thread, the problem is that the NFS mount is not configured properly, and thus the root.sh script is failing almost straight away.
Ensure that the NFS server has the following options in /etc/dfs/dfstab (Solaris 10) to allow root access:
    share -F nfs -o rw,root=orac1.domain.com:orac2.domain.com /oraclerac/crs_files
    share -F nfs -o rw,root=orac1.domain.com:orac2.domain.com /oraclerac/oradata
You can find out if this is the problem simply by (as root) trying to chown a file anywhere on the NFS mount.
Output of the root.sh script should be more like this:
WARNING: directory '/u01/crs/oracle/product/10.2.0' is not owned by root
WARNING: directory '/u01/crs/oracle/product' is not owned by root

    Hi,
best would be to take the actual version of Oracle (11gR2), which fixes a lot of bugs (also in installation), than to analyze problems based on old versions.
Even if you need older databases (10.2, which I don't hope since support is ending soon), you should at least think about taking the newest version for Oracle Clusterware (Grid infrastructure), .

Does anybody know how I can fix it and run the emca? I've tryed some google searches but I didn't have any luck.
    Thanks a lot.

    Hi schavali
I'll try to explain better what's going on with this database Im configuring. So, I installed OEL 5 from the zero, in a new machine, to install Oracle DB Server 10g R2 later on. I did the first step and the second one, which were Install OEL 5 with the packages needed and Oracle Database Server 10g R2. After these installations I went to create a database (I called it mki with SID mki). OK? So, when everything was done, almost at the end of the database creation I got a message that Enterprise Manager failed because it wasnt possible to allocate ports in the specifics ranges for JMS RMI Database Control and Em Agent.
When I run netca I got a message saying the Listener could not be started because another software was using the port 1521.
I did what you suggested. Ignored the listener port and tryed to create manually those ports necessary to run emca.
    In the terminal, I typed:
    $. emca -config dbcontrol db -repos create -JMS_PORT 5540 -RMI_PORT 5520 -DBCONTROL_HTTP_PORT 5505 -AGENT_PORT 1830
So, the problem is, I didnt get to create any of those ports. I tryed every single port number that wasnt listed as free in /etc vi services and I could not go through. I tryed as a oracle user and with root as well. When I type a port that is not listed in the services, sometimes the error I get says that emca cannot create that port because is out of the range.
Following the procedure to OEL 5 installation, I read it's necessary to select all the packages neeed by Oracle DB 10g R2 and it's also necessary to leave all others unselected. I didnt do that, I installed almost all the packages listed there in the installation. Could be that the problem? That is, if I install OEL 5 again with just the packages needed by Oracle DB could I go through Oracle Enterprise Manager Configuration Assistant? It's just a doubt.
Thanks a lot for your attention

  • Installation Error During Configuration Assistants

    Hello all.
I'm attempting to install Oracle SES on Windows XP. Beyond the Oracle® Secure Enterprise Search Installation Guide, I really don't know what I'm doing. The installation process runs fine until it gets to the Oracle Universal Installer: Configuration Assistants. Namely, the Oracle Database Configuration Assistant is the one causing problems. When it starts it doesn't make it very far before I'm assaulted with errors:
    ORA-12638 Credential retrieval failed
Of which I can ignore or abort. If I ignore every one that pops up, the configuration assistant finished "successfully," but then I can't log in to the Administration Tool page. So I'm inclined to suspect that the configuration assistant wasn't successful at all. I've followed the installation guide and a tutorial and I'm rather clueless as to what I'm doing wrong (or what I'm failing to do). Any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks.

But when i use those url i'm getting error message and page not displayed
    What errors are you getting?
Why I'm getting this message once the installation is successful. All the the three services are installed and starting properly without any error
So you're running on Windows? Do you have a fixed IP address? If not, did you install the Loopback Adapter as specified in the installation guide for Windows?
Also I have few doubts regarding installation, 1. Do i need to have Oracle Databse on my machine before the installation as it is not mentioned anywhere in the prerequisite. When I'm starting the midtier it gives me error while connecting to sqlplus for invalid userid/passowrd. Still the process goes through and midtier starts. Is that is a problem that my page is not displayed?
No, you don't need a database on the machine. SES installs its own internal database. It sounds like it's unable to start the database - possibly because of the NTS problem referred to above, or possibly because you don't have a Loopback Adapter installed.
+2. Does SES installs its own database while installation Or a client? Because i have not given any user id and password while installing then how does it tries to connect while starting the midtier.+
Yes, it installs its own database. The password for SYS, SYSTEM and EQSYS are set to the password you supplied during installation.
+3. If it does installs a internal database then how to access that database if we are not aware of the user id and password?+
See above. If you want to connect manually to the database (which shouldn't normally be necessary) you can use SYS AS SYSDBA, SYSTEM or EQSYS with the password you supplied. Note that unlike most default Oracle installations, you CANNOT connect using "sqlplus / as sysdba" - you should use "sqlplus sys as sysdba" to create a sysdba connection.

  • WF Configuration assistant Error (Table or view does not exist)

    Hi
I'm trying to configure a fresh owf_mgr schema on my new 11gr2 database using configuration assistant 2.6.4.0.0.
The assistant connects but is not able to continue. The error is: java.sql.SQLException: ORA-00942: table or view does not exist.
I don't find anything useful in the log file though.
I previously did the same thing on a 11gr2 db and it went all nice and good.
Any ideas what table or view does the wizard mean?
    Thank you in advance.

    hi all,
i've solved the problem by cleanly remove .profile under oracle login directory. not sure whether OUI refers this file during installation. in the new installation, i also use two UNIX users, one for infra tier, another for apps tier. this time, there is no single error reported.
    thanks for your attention.

  • Problem using template in database configuration assistant Oracle 10g

    Hi,
I created a database using the database configuration assistant for Oracle 10g on a Windows Server 2003 box. The database I created worked perfectly, and I had saved it as a template so I could save some time when creating similar databases (which I have to do on occasion)
When I try to use the template though, I get an error (at about 4% through the database creation) saying:
    ORA-01501: CREATE DATABASE failed
ORA-09314: sltln: error translating logical name
I'm creating this new database on the same server as the one I created my previous database on and NOTHING has changed on it, I did this just minutes apart and can duplicate it at will (just try and use a template)

  • Security problem in oracle 9i Database Configuration Assistant

Inside the tool Oracle 9i Database Configuration Assistant there is an option by which you can make a "copy" of your Database. This "copy" is called a template and you don4t need any password or aunthentication to do it, you just need the tool to be installed in your server. Once you have a template, you can bring it anywhere and recreate the original database (including data). Again, you don't need any password or aunthentication to do it, further more, in the last step of this process you can change the password of any user (inluding SYS, SYSTEM or another DBA user). The thing about this is that anyone with access to the computer where the database is can make a template of it, take this template to another computer and recreate my database having FULL access to it (structure, data, code ...). And everything without needing any password!!!. I really thing that it is a big problem. Is there any way of preventing this operation?. How can I safely protect my database?. I thought about unistalling the product, but someone can re-install it and everything would be the same. Can someone give me an answer?
    Thanks for everything.

You must protect your database from casual browsing at the OS level. This is not a security hole, per se, since this is a known issue with any and all software. Database Configuration Assistant is not needed for this since one may copy the database without it.

  • Database Configuration Assistant fails during instalation of Oracle EE 8.1.7

My machine runs RH 6.2 and I have tried to install it Oracle. After executing all pre-instalation steps, I run ./runInstall and instalation process goes on. I select Typical Instalation and instalation proceeds until 100%, when OUI tries to configure Net 8 Assistant and Database Configuration Assistant. Both applications fail in this phase. Unfortunately, OUI shows a message (Database Configuration Assistant) informing that /u01/.../JRE/bin/jre does not exist. However, I have installed JDK 118 and JRE link seems correct, so that I can access JDK directory throught JRE link.
    HELP, HELP!!!
    Cheers,
