Oracle database driver registration

Can someone tell me how I can register Oracle8i driver on SUN J2EE 1.4 App Server for my CMP EntityBean? And where do I register a JNDI name for it? My database name is TestDB.

Follow these steps
1) Download the Oracle thin driver
2) Open the setenv.bat batch file and add the path of the dowloaded oracle driver .
3) Also add the JNDI name for the Oracle database with the path.
Note: You'll have writeups how to configure both in the setenv.bat(given as comments) and also in the Java tutorial.
Bye.

              out.println("error occoured ");
    pls help as soon as possible
    Sorry, for my english

    you are actually using JDBC so the DSN entry does not matter.
    2 things.
    Make sure that your oracle database driver is in your classpath on your tomcat server.
    I.E. copy the file classes12.jar into your common/lib folder of tomcat, or into your WEB-INF/lib folder of your application. and RESTART your server. classes12.jar can be found on the internet or more easily somewhere within your oracle installation. just search for it.
    Make sure your jdbc url is correct. I believe it goes like this.... fill in the blacks
    connection conn = DriverManager.getConnection("jdbc:oracle:thin:scott/tiger@MyOracleHost:1521:MyDB");Note how the username are passed in the first string there fore there is no need to pass additional parameters. This method may be depriciated, but if so, just take out the user and pass from the string and continue to pass them as 3 seperate strings.
    connection conn = DriverManager.getConnection("jdbc:oracle:thin:MyOracleHost:1521:MyDB","scott","tiger");That should get your connection. if not, post your errors.

  • Error oracle.sql.* and oracle.jdbc.driver.* not found when using oracle as a database

    I am using oracle as database and weblogic 4.5. I have copied the classes12.zip file in lib directory of weblogic. I am getting the error that oracle.sql.* and oracle.jdbc.driver.* not found when i am importing these packages in a jsp file. what i need to do to import oracle driver packages?I put it in the classpath also.
    Please Advice!
    Thanks in advance

    Hi Anupama,
    First of all I would be surprised if you would not like to use the connection pooling feature of weblogic (in which case you might not be needing the import the classes directly), and would like to open direct connections to your database. Anyways for doing that I would recommend you to check out the readme doc that ships
    along with the jdbc oracle (classes12.zip etc). I am giving an excerpt over here:
    These are a few simple things that you should do in your JDBC program:
    1. Import the necessary JDBC classes in your programs that use JDBC.
    For example:
    import java.sql.*;
    import java.math.*;
    2. Register the Oracle driver before before calling other JDBC APIs.
    (This is not needed if you are using the JDBC Server-side Internal
    Driver because registration is done automatically in the server.)
    To register the Oracle driver, make sure the following statement
    is executed at least once in your Java session:
    DriverManager.registerDriver(
    new oracle.jdbc.driver.OracleDriver());
    3. Open a connection to the database with the getConnection call.
    Different connection URLs should be used for different JDBC
    drivers. The following examples demonstrate the different URLs.
    For the JDBC OCI8 Driver:
    Connection conn = DriverManager.getConnection(
    "jdbc:oracle:oci8:@<database>",
    "scott", "tiger");
    where <database> is either an entry in tnsnames.ora or a SQL*net
    name-value pair.
    For the JDBC Thin Driver, or Server-side Thin Driver:
    Connection conn = DriverManager.getConnection(
    "jdbc:oracle:thin:@<database>",
    "scott", "tiger");
    where <database> is either a string of the form
    <host>:<port>:<sid> or a SQL*net name-value pair.
    For the JDBC Server-side Internal Driver:
    Connection conn = DriverManager.getConnection(
    "jdbc:oracle:kprb:");
    Note that the trailing ':' character is necessary. When you use
    the Server-side Internal Driver, you always connect to the
    database you are executing in. You can also do this:
    Connection conn
    = new oracle.jdbc.driver.OracleDriver().defaultConnection();
    Hope this helps,
    Thanks,

    You should confirm that you can connect to the DB with a simple Java class using the url that the code you posted is using.
    This will show that the OCI client is installed and executing properly. If you can't connect externally you will need to fix that first.
    Is the Oracle client installed on the same machine the JDBC code is running on?

    1 - Use an XA driver, datasource, and tx

  • Unable to connect to my Oracle Database with Microsoft's ODBC for Oracle driver

    I am unable to connect to my Oracle Database with Microsoft's ODBC for Oracle driver vers.2.573.4202.00 on a Win98 computer.
    First, I create a "Net Service Name" in order for the ODBC Driver to find the Oracle server. I then created a System DSN in the ODBC Data Source Administrator and assigned the "Net Server Name" as the server in the "Microsoft ODBC for Oracle Setup". But when I test this DSN with Oracle's provided "Oracle ODBC 32Bit Test vers.2.5.3.1.0" I get an error:
    SQLSTATE: NA000
    Native Error Code:0
    Driver Message:[Microsoft][ODBC driver for Oracle][Oracle]
    This error occurred on all three Win98 computers I have tried. It does however, seem to work fine on WinNT 4.0, and believe it or not, on the two Win95 computers I have tried.
    Does anyone have any fixes, recomendations, or advice?
    Thank you,
    Eric Edwards

    Why are yu not using the Oracle ODBC driver - these can be downloaded from OTN.
    Have you set up a tnsnames.ora entry for the Oracle database you want to connect to? Does this name have a domain name added to it? Check %ORACLE_HOME%\network\admin\tnsnames.ora for the service name. If it is a name of the form :
    name.domain.subdomain
    then you should try using this full name when configuring the ODBC data source.

    Hi,
    I am developing an 64bit And-In software. My OS is windows7 64bit Ultimate. Developer tool is
    Microsoft  Visual Studio 2010 Ultimate 64bit any-CUP.
    Server is SUN server and Oracle database 10.2.0.5 64bit enterprise edition.
    I have installed instantclient-odbc-win64-10.2.0.5 on my computer.
    I am able to connect through the command line sqlplus user/pass@server.
    In date source(c:\windows\system32\odbcad32.exe), ODBC Driver connection successful.
    But in VS2010 C#, use Tools -> Connect Database,I get an error 193 (Oracle in
    instantclient10_2,c:\ora10_64\SQORA32.dll) cann't be loaded.
    SQORA32.dll is 32bit ODBC Driver or 64bit ODBC Driver?
    How can I connect database with vs2010 64bit?
    Regards

    There is no Visual Studio 2010 Ultimate 64bit as far as I know.  It's a 32 bit app.    Generally you'd need to install a 32 bit client to use the 32 bit tools.
    Hope it helps,

         String serverName = "rana-etcsup3ueu";
         String portNumber = "1521";
         String sid = "ORCLE";
         String url = "jdbc:oracle:thin:@rana-etcsup3ueu:1521:ORCLE";
         String username = "scott";
         String password = "tiger";
         connection = DriverManager.getConnection(url, username,password);
         } catch (ClassNotFoundException e) {
              JOptionPane.showMessageDialog(null,"Coud not find the database driver ");
         // Could not find the database driver
         } catch (SQLException e) {
              JOptionPane.showMessageDialog(null,"Coud not connect to the database ");
         // Could not connect to the database
    but i have ClassNotFoundException that is cannot find tha database driver

    This clearly implies that your driver classes are not on the classpath.
    Ensure that the classes are reachable to your JVM.

  • Couldnt load database driver: oracle.jdbc.driver.OracleDriver

    Hi,
    I could appreciate some help here.
    I have saved my classes12.zip and nls_charset12.zip in my c:\work\WebDev and I have added this to my classpath. But when I run my servlet, I still get the error of "Couldnt load database driver: oracle.jdbc.driver.OracleDriver"
    I also tried using jar files but still got the same error.
    Any sggestions to solve this?
    Thanks!!

    If it is Tomcat, extract the classes12.zip and place
    in the tomcat-home\common\classes folder.
    I am rather certain that it does not need to be extracted. I am also rather certain that the documentation for Tomcat points out the correct way to install it (which includes changing the extension from zip to jar.)

  • ORACLE ODBC DRIVER를 이용하여 ORACLE DATABASE에 접속하는 방법 (8.X이상)

    제품 : ODBC
    작성날짜 : 2003-03-27
    ORACLE ODBC DRIVER를 이용하여 ORACLE DATABASE에 접속하는 방법 (8.X이상)
    =========================================================
    PURPOSE
    Oracle Client가 8.X version인 경우, Oracle ODBC driver를 설치하고 Oracle
    database에 접속하는 방법을 살펴본다.
    Explanation
    1. 다음 site에서 Oracle ODBC driver를 download받는다.
    - http://otn.oracle.com에 접속한다.
    - downloads 항목을 선택하고 다음 페이지로 이동한다.
    - 오른쪽 끝쪽의 Technologies, Utilities, and Drivers TAB부분에,
    Oracle ODBC Drivers를 선택한다.
    - login 화면이 나타나고 login하여 접속하면 Oracle ODBC driver가 version별로
    download받을 수 있도록 나타난다.
    이때, version은 ODBC driver를 설치하고자 하는 client의 Oracle Client
    version과 동일한 것을 사용한다. 접속하고자 하는 db version에 맞추는것이
    아님을 유의한다.
    - 해당 version을 선택하고 다음 page에서,
    ELIGIBILITY EXPORT RESTRICTIONS 부분에 나타나는 5개 항목을 모두 표시한
    상태에서 끝에 I ACCEPT button을 누른다.
    - 해당 version의 .exe file을 download받는다.
    2. download 받은 odbc를 install한다.
    - 예를 들어 download받은 화일이 ora9202.exe라고 가정한다.
    - 이것을 실행시키면 압축이 자동으로 풀리는데 미리 d:\odbc와 같이 directory를
    만들어 둔 후 해당 directory에 압축이 풀리도록 한다.
    - 이미 Oracle Client 설치시 설치된 Oracle Universal Installer를 실행한다.
    - Universal Installer에서 '화일 위치' 항목에서 '소스' 부분에 d:\odbc쪽을
    선택하면, d:\odbc\Disk1\state\product.jar가 선택되는데 이러한 상태에서,
    아래 '대상' 부분에서는 Oracle Client가 설치되어 있는 ORACLE_HOME이름을
    선택하여 같은 ORACLE_HOME을 base로 odbc가 설치되도록 한다.
    3. ODBC configuration을 설정하고 연결을 테스트한다.
    - install이 끝나면, windows의 '시작'->'프로그램'->해당 oracle_home을
    선택하고 'Network Administration'-> 'Microsoft ODBC Administrator'를
    선택한다.
    - 사용자 DSN 혹은 시스템 DSN TAB상태에서, 오른쪽에 '추가' button을 누른다.
    - 데이타원본을 설정할 드라이버 선택 부분에서,
    'Oracle in oracle8i_home' 과 같이 해당 oracle_home을 나타내는 oracle을
    선택하고 '마침'을 누른다.
    - 'Oracle ODBC Driver Configuration' windows가 나타나게 되는데, 여기서
    - Data Source Name: application에서 사용할 data source이름을 지정한다.
    - Description: 임의로 설명을 적을 수 있다.
    - TNS Service Name: Oralce client의 %ORACLE_HOME%\network\admin directory의
    tnsnames.ora file내의 TNS 서비스 명을 적는다. 이 TNS 서비스 명을
    이용해서 sqlplus와 같이 odbc를 거치지 않고도 db server로 접속시 문제가
    없어야 한다. 미리 sqlplus에서 test해볼것을 권장한다.
    sqlplus상에서 username/passwd뒤에 @표시 뒤에 적는 글자를 의미하는 것이다.
    - User ID: scott/tiger와 같이 접속하고자 하는 username/password를 적는다.
    - 오른쪽에 'Test Connection' button을 선택하여 접속이 잘 되는지를 test한다.

  • Driver problem to connect the oracle database

    sir
    i want to use oracle 8.0 database at the backend in my project
    i want that it is platform indpendent but
    so i access that it is achive when i am not use the odbc driver

    the odbc driver.
    can it is possible that i use oracle database with out use of ODBC bridge in all Microsoft opertaing system types that is win 98,2000,XP
    and NT
    if yes how please help me and where i found the driver for oracle
    with no price.
    also how can i made the connection with my application.
    thanks in advance

    First:
    post this in the approriate forum. This is for Swing questions, not for database driver questions. You have more luck in the JDBC forum, but still this isn't really a Java/JDBC question.
    Second:
    try to use the search before posting a question. Questions regarding the ODBC bridge are posted about 5 times a day (in the JDBC forum)!
    Third:
    to answer your question: download the Type 4 JDBC driver from otn.oracle.com. You can use it with every JDK on every platform.

  • How to config the oracle database connection pool in IAS

    Hi,
    Does anyone who hows to config the oracle database connection pool in IAS?
    Thanks so much!!!

    Jacky,
    You need do the following for oracle type4 driver:
    1) register the driver:
    $IAS_HOME/bin/jdbcsetup
    Driver Identifier: Oracle_Type4_816 (whatever name you like)
    Driver Classname: oracle.jdbc.driver.OracleDriver
    Driver Classpath: .../classes12.zip (install this this zip file somewhere
    and add this zip into the Classpath later).
    2) DataSource Setup:
    start iAS Administration Tool (iASAT)
    Choose Database, unfold iAS1 (your app server instance),
    choose External JDBC Datasource -> add: DataSource Registration
    JNDI Name: yourPoolName
    Driver Type: Oracle_Type4_816 (select what you just register)
    DataSource Url: jdbc:oracle:thin:@hostName:portName:dbName
    Username: your_user_name
    Password: your_passwd
    (Datasource Pool: using defaults for now): you can also customrize the
    parameters for the pool.
    3. Add classes12.zip into CLASSPATH.
    In your application, you can use JNDI lookup to get the DataSource from
    which you get the connection from the pool.
    Hope this helps.
    Good luck.

  • Oracle Rdb Driver 3.1.0.0 problem with blobs

    I am trying to convert an MsAccess application to use an MsAccess front end and an Oracle Rdb back end.
    I've created the test database under VMS and can successfully link to the Oracle Rdb tables from MSAccess 2000. One of the main reasons for converting to Oracle Rdb is to be able to store large word documents in the database. I was able to do that using Oracle rdb Driver v 3.00.02.06. I recently converted to Oracle Rdb Driver version 3.1.0.0 and can no longer access the Blob field containing the Word document. MsAccess now sees this field as type ‘Binary’ and I keep getting an ‘invalid field type’ error. (with 3.00.02.06 this field was seen by MsAccess as an ‘Ole Object’ and the getchunk and appendchunk functions for getting and saving a blob worked reasonably well).
    Is this a bug in 3.1.0.0 or is there some way to get MsAccess to recognize this Binary field type?

    I suspect you'll need to contact Oracle support on this. There aren't, to my knowledge, any RDB folks around here.
