Oracle Database Mobile Server 11g

Hi,
We implemented Oracle EBS R11i for one of our customers. We also implemented Oracle Mobile Server 9i on Windows Server and Olite 9i on PDAs running Windows.
Now the customer wants to upgrade Oracle EBS to R12 and also upgrade Oracle Mobile Server and Olite 9i to newer versions of Oracle and also want to use Android on the PDAs/Mobile Devices.
Can we implement Oracle Database Mobile Server 11g and Mobile Client as mentioned in these links:

I think it will be a new implementation of Oracle Database Mobile server and Mobile client and not an upgrade.

MFS embeds Olite into the product. Put another way, through MFS interfaces it defines/determines what functionality of mobile server can be used. Under the MFS configuration the Olite client database is used and the web-to-go app is used, there are no other choices. Very common when a software product includes some other product, it will determine what parts of the embedded product gets used.
Olite 10.3.0.3 as a separately download product used standalone has additional capability. Note: 10.3.0.3 is no longer separately downloadable over OTN.
In DMS 11.x -- we removed Olite client database, rearchitected sync to better fit BDB and allows for BDB and SQLite (either one of those can be used) on the client db. Again, MFS is only compatible with 10.3.0.3/2 right now. That team is a different development team within Oracle, on totally different release schedules than the Database Mobile Server development team. Android support was added in DMS 11.x.

In the release notes for 11g, I find this:
"The Oracle Lite Mobile Client is desupported in this release. The Sync Control APIs for the Oracle Lite Mobile Client are still provided in this guide, but will be removed when the Oracle Lite Mobile Client is fully deprecated.
Supported mobile clients include the Berkeley DB and SQLite Mobile Clients.
I am not sure I understand. Will I still be able to use Olite db with the Sync Control API for Oracle lite (like before), or does it mean that the sync control APIs now work only with SQLite and BDB? We are in the process of porting our app from WM6.1 to Android. If we install the latest Mobile server, will I have to change my WM6.1 app so that it supports SQLite or BDB?
I think the latter is the case, but I became unsure when I read the release note.

Oracle Database Mobile Server 11 sync

Hi,
I have two simple tables in the back-end oracle database in order to create a meeting-room android application with and embebbed SQLite database on the client devices. I have written all the functionality to register, authenticate, create a new appointent, show it, and delete it and it works fine on my smartphone, but I did all these steps against the local sqlite db.
Now I would like to share the reserves info with all the clients by synchronization using Oracle Database Mobile Server 11.
Tables:
Employees(ID, username, password, firstname, lastname, phone, email)
Reserves(ID, subject, firstname, lastname, start_date, end_date, meeting_room, alarm)
I have configured all the publications required (app , item, users, grants...) with the Workbench tool, like i have read from the official documentation and i added the lines to invoke the sync functionality. My problem is that when i launch the first sync the sqlite database in created on the device but the few records on the back-end are not replicated in the sqlite db. ¿is this process automatic or have I to write some code to catch this info?
Another problem is that the records of the sqlite database is neither replicated to the back-end database. I have to say that th sync process ends succesfully but I can see nothing on the in-queue and out-queue queues in the mobile manager console. So, what´s about this incomind and outcoming data? Th only thing i can see is a set of dirty records, these records are records on the back-end db, but I dont know what means...

Data Subsetting is to restrict the data each Client sees based on values you specify i.e.
If you only wanted a Client to see data for a specific Dept you could specify the following in the Publication Item
Select * from emp where DEPTNO = :DEPTNO
You can define what DEPTNO should be for each Client in the Mobile Server
So in your case if you want ALL Client to see ALL records for a Publication Item then you should not specify any Data Subsetting i.e.
Select * from emp - This would retrieve all rows
There is no specific need to use Sequences in your Application unless you want to. Obviously you must make sure that any new records created on the Client will not conflict with a record created on a different Client otherwise conflicts will occur after the data is synchronized with the server
With regards to you actual issue can you confirm the following ( NO NOT CHANGE ANY VALUES )
1. Check the table mobileadmin.applications in the Repository DB and confirm there is a row there for your Application and that the 'Publication' column contains the correct Publication you created in MDW.
2. Check the Table C$ALL_CLIENT_ITEMS, this should contain one row for each Publication Item you created in MDW i.e.
Select PUBLICATION_ITEM, DIRTY, CRR From C$ALL_CLIENT_ITEMS Where CLIENTID = '<Your Client Name>';

I am running my Mobile Server 11g and i want to test if Server works.
4.6 Testing Your Mobile Server Installation
To test whether your mobile server was installed correctly, test your mobile server through a browser with the following URL:
http://<machine-name>[:port]/mobile
I tried:

Error 404--Not Found
http://localhost/mobile (without port 7001 form Weblogic Server)
http://desktoppc:7001/mobile (my machine name)

but i cannot access it... always an error.

Hi Jedi,
Did you start the Mobile Server ? There is an Icon in the Program Group.
You should be able to see what port its running on appear in the command window when it starts up.
If you have started the Mobile Server but it does not appear to be accessible can you access the WLS Admin Console ? i.e.
http://localhost:7001/console
What logs do you have in the domain you set up i.e.
$OH\Middleware\user_projects\domains\mobileserver\servers\AdminServer\log

Errors in Oracle Database Mobile Sever 11g Installation with Was

Hi,
I have installed IBM WAS (WebSphere Application server) version 7.0 and I am trying to identify the base installation directory for IBM WAS 7.0. This information is needed to install Oracle mobile server on my machine. Can you please help me in finding out the location of application server.
I tried all the possible paths of Application Server. Its giving me an error message 'No Application server is found'.
I installed WAS in C:\IBM.

We checked the pre requisites which were posted in Requirements Before Installation or Development link.It matched all the requirements.
I have some query.Will Websphere Application Server(WAS) work with Oracle Mobile Server? Since all the the other servers were mentioned except for WAS.

Can't set up repository for Database Mobile Server 11g (DMS)

I'm trying to install DMS on GlassFish. After installed GlassFish and DMS. I started to run /admin/repwizard
1. First screen, i gave Host name, Port number, Service base on GlassFish info
2. Second Screen, l let the SYSTEM password blank (can't see any request to create password for SYSTEM before)
When i press next, after 2 minutes, one dialog with mess: "Socket read timed out" appear
Please help!!!

Oracle Mobile Server 11G with BerkeleyDB/SQLite

Hi all,
Actually I have got following situation:
There are 2 Java apps that are running on Oracle Lite. Due to our Win 7 migration und outrunning support of Support for Oracle Lite we decided to migrate to Oracle Mobile Server 11 G and switch to Berkeley DB. So far so good.
During migration my administrator reported warnings from migration utility that the apps are not compatible and aren't migrated. Within these applications databaseaccess is done via JDBC and SQL. There is no time and money to rewrite dataaccess layer, so I need SQL Access to Berkeley DB.
For my first tests I created via Mobile Server API a new Publication that contains simply one publication Item that is in One Way Synchronization (Server to Client) . I wanted to take a look into the submitted Database File. For that I found dbsql.exe. I called this app via command line with: "dbsql.exe MyDb.db". DBSql started but returned an error that SQL Statement is incomplete?!. Any idea? For that new publictation i also wrote a testapp that should spool out the contents of publication Item in a later step.
Ok now i took a new look into internet for getting information about SQL Support. There I found that Berkeley DB now is able to speak SQLite. So it seems that new database is able to speak SQL via SQLite. Is that correct?
I switched now in MobileServer Console my testapp to SQLite Win32; US and installed the SQLite client on my computer. My next try was to connect this database to dbsql.exe. The call of dbsql.exe "MyDb.db" returned that error that databse is eather corrupted or encrypted.
I was really unable to find a guide how to use that SQL API for Berkely DB. Which .jars should I import in my Java app? How is connection been made?
Is here anyone that can help me a little bit out?

Hi, I see that this thread is old a little bit. Do you still need help on it? I have been able to create a publication with Mobile Server 11G with Berkeley DB as the client database. I have also found the jar to use to access the client database in java. Please let me know in you still need it and i'll post it here.

Oracle Mobile Server 11g - BerkelyDB corrupt.

We have a client that currently uses Oracle Database Lite 10.3.0.3.0 to synce an olite database that interacts with a Win32 application. Due to the support being dropped they are in the process of migrating to Oracle Mobile Server 11g, however I have run into an issue with the BerkeleyDB files created by the sync agent.
We have installed Oracle Mobile Server 11gR2 onto a linux environment, hosted on WebLogic 11. As a test I created a publication item for BerkeleyDB (Win32) with the workshop tool with a single table from our main database. Our developers are able to connect to the database using the System.Data.SQLite.dll and SQLite.Interop.dll files that came with the Windows MSI file, however any queries against a primary key column result in a "database disk image is malformed" error message. Queries against non-PK columns work fine.
Whenever I attempt to use the dbsql.exe file to connect to the database file, I am presented with the following:

Enough connections/disconnections will eventually break though, but I doubt this is how it was meant to work. Once it is "working", this is the kind of errors our developers are running into:

We can create a table through this sql interface and it works just fine. So I'm thinking the issue is either with how the Sync Agent creates the database, or its with how the Workshop tells the server to build the tables. I have attempted to use the workshop on both Windows and Linux environments to see if that would help, but unfortunately it does not.
Does anyone have any ideas of where I should start looking? Am I just missing something that needs to be set on the client's (where the berkeleyDB is deployed) environment, or on the server side?

This issue has been resolved. It was related to the developers having a different set of Berkeley DLL files reference on their machines.

How to install the oracle lite mobile server?

pop the window let me input the "host name""port"and "net server name",I have install oracle 9i,and establish a database named "oradb",establish an server named"oradb",the service can be listened and the port is "1521",but in the installation when i input the up numbers, it
tells me that "invalid server name",how can i do?

It sounds like you are not properly connecting to the back end Oracle instance when Lite attempts to install the Mobile Server Repository.
Before attempting a re-install, why don't you try connecting to the same instance using SQL/Plus with the a connect string specifying hostname:1521:SID. If you are not able to connect you need to determine why.

Connect Problems with Oracle Database Express Edition 11g Release 2

Hello,
I am a student trying to install Oracle Database Express Edition 11g Release 2 and SQL Developer on my home system, Win7 64Bit, in order to practice some things I've learned from me DBA class and Developer classes.
Anyway, I have everything installed, but I am having difficulty connecting as SYS or SYSDBA in the 'Run SQL Command Line', I keep getting the ORA-01017: invalid username/password: logon denied.
However, If i select the 'Start Database' I get this:
C:\oraclexe\app\oracle\product\11.2.0\server\bin>
and I can type sqlplus / as sysdba and it starts up just fine and show user lists me as "SYS".
but if I go back to 'Run SQL Command Line' I still cannot connect as SYS or SYSDBA...I find this both confusing and frustrating. I don't know if I am in different instances or something like that, but I seem to be limited to connecting only as "SYSTEM". I need SYS because I want to practice creating datafiles, instances and things like that, but I seem to be lost.
Also, I am trying to create a new DB connection with SQL Developer and I can only us SYSTEM for my login which, if I understand correctly, will limit my privileges. Again When I try to sign in with SYS or SYSDBA I get error'd out. When I installed Ora11gDBExpress I was prompted in input a single password that was supposed to grant me access as SYS or SYSTEM, but I am limited to only SYSTEM for some reason.
So, I am looking for help/guidance as to what to do.

General rule of thumb, don't use sysdba unless you want to shut down the database, or grant a database user privileges on a sys object.
A SYSTEM connection is not "limiting", it has the DBA role which means a user with a system connection can do most anything needed, including select/update/delete/drop any user's objects as well as change parameters in the instance.
The system user can indeed add datafiles, tablespaces, etc. The instance and database should already be created as long as the installer completed all its chores correctly. For XE, per the license agreement only one instance can run on one host. If you want to try creating a database, it will require shutting down the XE instance and creating a new database service, creating the database, and installing the system catalog and any other optional components desired. Good practice indeed, but a bit advanced for the new user.
Do create users for schemas ... connect system; create user <username> identified by <password> and connect <username> for the schemas (a collection of objects) within the database. Grant the resource and create session privilege to <username> to allow the database user the ability to create tables, indexes, stored procedures, etc.
There is no "or" in a sys as sysdba connection, from 10g onwards a sys connection requires using the sysdba privilege. To enable a sysdba connection, add your host user to the ORA_DBA group on the host. To verify the OS users in the ORA_DBA group, this might work for win7, in a cmd box ...
$ net localgroup ora_dba
...If your OS user is in the ora_dba group the sys as sysdba password is not relevant, you can in fact type anything for a password. If you wish to connect with the sysdba privilege from a remote client, that is a bit different and requires knowing the password set in the instance password file. Which should be set the same as the system password defined in the installer, but you can change that by creating a new password file. Another slightly advanced topic.
In Windows IMHO its better to leave the listener and database set to Manual start (in the services applet, Start/Run/services.msc) and start the listener, then the database, when its needed. At least for an XE instance, as its intended for practice and learning RDBMS management.

Difference in select for update of - in Oracle Database 10g and 11g

Hi, I found out that Oracle Database 10g and 11g treat the following PL/SQL block differently (I am using scott schema for convenience):

/While in 10g (10.2) this code ends successfully (well NO_DATA_FOUND exception is raised but that is expected), in 11g (11.2) it raises exception "column ambiguously defined". And that is definitely not expected. It seems like it does not take into account table alias because I found out that when I change the column in FOR UPDATE OF e.empno (also does not work) to e.mgr (which is unique) it starts working. So is this some error in 11g? Any thoughts?

The behaviour seems like it really is a bug and can be avoided using non-ANSI syntax. (It makes me wonder why Oracle maintains two query languages while dumb me thinks that this is just a preprocessor matter and query engine could be the same).

Installing Oracle Database Express Edition 11g on UBUNTU

I want to install Oracle Database Express Edition 11g on UBUNTU. I followed the steps from this link created by Dude:

My problem becomes when I type in from the terminal:
sudo /etc/init.d/oracle-xe configure
I followed the instructions there, agreeing t HTTP port 8080, port database listener 1521, specifying a password for my database account, and wanting Oracle Express to be started on boot. This is what I'm getting:

Can somebody that knows this, or has installed Oracle Express on Ubuntu, to please explain it to me what does it mean and why am I getting those errors. Please explain thoroughly as if I am an amateur person, IN DETAIL, STEP-BY-STEP. I want to run it and make it work! I heard that it encourages people to answer for points. Running Oracle database 10g and 11g on same 5 RAC nodes

Hello Gurus,
Could any body throw light if I can install and sucessfully run Oracle database 10g and 11g on the same Oracle RAC installation setup.My setup is below
Number of nodes-5
OS- windows 2003 or RHEL5
storage- DELL EMC SAN
Clusterware- oracle version11g
File system-Automatic storage management(ASM)
After I successfully setup clusterware,ASM on the nodes,I would want to install 11g database on all 5 nodes .
Then Install 10g database on only 3 of the nodes using the same clusterware.
What are your views on the same.
Also FYI... as per metalink node 220970.1(RAC: Frequently Asked Questions) one can do such a setup.
what iam looking for is practical experience if anyone has implemented this in production system,if yes any issues faced and how tough it is to support.

You could run an 11g database and 10g database on the same cluster as long as you use Clusterware 11g.
The administration aspect will drastically change according to the platform you run on. As of now, it appears you don't know whether it will be Linux or Windows.
It would be practical to support the same database release.
