Oracle.AQ package
Hi,
From where can I download oracle.AQ. package for 8_1_7?. Please provide me some link.
Thanks!!
Hi Narayan,
The package should be installed when you install Oracle client or Oracle server. It is typically in $ORACLE_HOME/RDBMS/jlib directory.
cheers,
Brajesh.

To use Entity Bean or Oracle stored Package?
Currently, in my project, Weblogic8.1 and Oracle is used, but lots of business logic is implemented using Oracle stored Packages, many of these packages have a package level readonly lookup table(like index-by table or nested table), which is populated with data from database, once the package is called, and is accessed very often in subsequent calls of stored procedures.
Since, in Weblogic server, a connection pool is maintained, and those package level lookup tables would be stored as session data in oracle PGA, I'm afraid this might cause oracle database server to be overloaded.
to fully take advantage of middleware cache service that weblogic provide, should I move those business logic out of oracle and implement them using like read only entity bean?
any help appreciated! Its very hard to say without knowing the usage patterns of the data. It sounds like you have a lot of read-only entities. These could be spread around a WLS cluster, therefore there is more scalability and performance with this option. However, I would not neccessarily rewrite business logic from SP into EJB just for middle-tier caching.
If its a DB intensive app with lots of SQL, then if the calls are within SP's, there is only 1 call from WLS and the DBA ought o be able to tune the DB usin read-ahead and other DBA semantics. If there is locality of reference in the data, again, DB can use read-ahead better than WLS, although RO cache in middle is more scalable than DBMS.
I wouldnt rewrite business logic from SP to EJB/Entity beans to take advantage of cache, especially if there is no locality of read-only reference to data. Oracle could do this better in my opinion, especially if SP's already exist
Need for information on the usage patterns of the data - how is it CRUD'd.
I would use-case the steel threads and put them under test load to see if the SP's really are an issue, since this is an architecture decision. What state is the project at? Live/Dev? Inception? -
Can i create any procedure or function inside a oracle reserve package?
Hi!
Can i create any procedure or function inside a oracle reserve package. Suppose, I want to create a function called x in the dbms_output package. Can i do that? Or can i extend the features of this package and create/derived a function from it like we extend any class in JAVA. I'm not sure - whether this is at all possible. I'll be waiting for your reply.
Thanks in advance.
Satyaki De.No, but you can write a wrapper package and use that instead of using the Built-In package directly. So, instead of calling DBMS_OUTPUT, you call your own Package.
Steven Feuerstein wrote a wrapper for DBMS_OUTPUT, called P:

Oracle DBMS_RAND package install on NT
How do you install the Oracle DBMS_RAND package on NT. Oracle 8i is installed on and NT box and I'm not familiar with the tools in this environment. Like - is there such a thing as svrmgrl? If there is then how do I get there on a Windows NT box?
Thanks for any input
JR MyintI hope you are looking for the package DBMS_RANDOM (and not DBMS_RAND). It should already be installed. If you
do not see this package installed then you can run ${ORACLE_HOME}/rdbms/admin/dbmsrand.sql script to create
this package (you must run this script under user SYS).
Oracle8i should have SVRMGRL (Oracle Server Manager) installed (file SVRMGRL.EXE). You can go to DOS window and
type SVRMGRL at the DOS prompt to get Server Manager.

JMS Enqueue/Dequeue without using oracle.jms package
Hi,
Is it possible to successfully enqueue/dequeue messages from Oracle AQ using JMS which only uses the classes under javax.jms package, not the classes under oracle.jms package. If possible, can anybody please provide some step by step example.
ThanksYou can get the connection factory and the queue from an application server's jndi. Create a resource provider reference in oc4j and get them from there. Read the oc4j services guide, oems (jms) chapter for how to do that.
I think if you are not using an application server you can also get the connection factory and queue from an ldap directory. check out Aq user guide for that. -
Oracle Software Packager (OSP) Latest Software & Documentation
Hi,
I am looking for latest version of OSP, when I google I got only Oracle Software Packager and Installer, Release 2.2.0.16.0 to download but I need latest version.
Where can I get the latest version of software and documentation. Please provide if anybody has any documentation on how to setup and usage etc.
Thanks a lot in advance.
- cdharApparently what you found is the most current version. I contacted internal OTN support, and got this answer: "I am not aware of a more current version that what is listed."

Re : Run oracle DB packages from OBIEE
Hello there,
Hope all is well. I was just wondering how do you run Oracle DB Packages from OBIEE ? How do I say EXEC package.procedure or package.function ?
Thanks in advance,
SamHi..
Hope as you said.. use package.procedure or package.function in evaluate.. function
OR
if you go physical layer.. and try to create New Physical table..
Select Table type as Select and try to call your package function here...
Sorry to say this i didn't work on this.. but try and report back..
See my post Re: Calling Stored Procedure for Date Conversion ... for understanding .. this some what.
Thanks & Regards

Different Oracle Software packages
Hi,
There are different Oracle software packages at their download site:
- Database
- Application Server
- Development Tools
- Data Warehousing and Business Intelligence
- more
and each of these groups has sub-groups, e.g. under Application Server there
are
- Oracle9i Application Server
- Oracle9iAS Portal
I'm confused as to what each package does. What's the difference between
"Database" and "Application Server". Which one
do I need? And under each group, which sub-group do I need?
Is there any docs I can read on the functions of the products?
Any help is most appreciated!
Regards,
EricSelect the books here http://otn.oracle.com/pls/db92/db92.homepage
for beginers and you will get information about
Oracle and his products.

JDeveloper and Oracle Software Packager
Is there any integration between JDeveloper 3.2 and Oracle Software Packager.
If not are there any standard 'Best Practices' for generating builds from JDeveloper in structures that can be used by OSP/OUI.
nullPlease provide enough information for us to know what you are trying to do and with what version.
You could be asking about anything from the box the software comes in (if it did) to built-in PL/SQL packages and we should not have to guess at your meaning. -
Oracle Software Packager.
Hi,
I'm trying to install Oracle Software Packager version 1.7.0.20.0A
on a Win2000 Server and the setup.exe program won't run. I installed
JDK 1.1.8 for Microsoft Windows, set CLASSPATH and PATH environment
variables. The release notes states that it runs on Win2000 Professional
Workstation with no mention of Win2000 server. If it works on Win200 Prof,
shouldn't it work on Win2000 Server??
Thx,
JohnIt turns out that JDK1.1.8 won't work correctly on
Pentium 4 machines. Old versions of symcjit.dll
cause Oracle's setup not to run on P4 machines.
This is what worked for me:
1. Copy the contents of the \install directory to a temporary
directory on
your harddisk.
2. Search for all copies of the 'symcjit.dll' file, and rename them
to
symcjit.old'.
3. Go to the \install directory and open the 'oraparam.ini' file
for
editing.
Please note this file is write-protected.
4. Change the JRE_MEMORY_OPTIONS parameter to
JRE_MEMORY_OPTIONS=-nojit -ms16m -mx32m
5. Save the oraparam.ini file.
6. Start the installation again.
The answer was found here: http://www.orafaq.com/msgboard/sqlnet/messages/1514.htm
It would be nice if Oracle put this info in the friggin release notes
for the software packager. But, I guess that would be too much work.
Why does the packager still use such an old version of java??? Anyhow,
thanks Oracle for wasting 2 days of my time..
