Oracle does return space to OS

Dear Friends,
Pls help me with the following situation.
I have deleted an unwanted table which is having about 1.5GB of data from my oracle 8i production server, because I want some space in my solaris server.
After deleting the rows in the table, using user_extents I found the space is only 80 MB, but my solaris box is still showing the same % of free space.
I first truncated the table and then copied back only the required rows.
What else I need to do?

Since the space is returned to Oracle only and the underlying datafile is still occupying space on the disk, the OS will not see the free space (but Oracle will).
As suggested, if absolutely necessary to get some free space on the server, you would need to RESIZE the datafile associated with the tablespace. But, you may have to reorg the datafile before you could do that (you may get the following error message):
03297, 00000, "file contains used data beyond requested RESIZE value"
// *Cause:  Some portion of the file in the region to be trimmed is
//          currently in use by a database object
// *Action: Drop or move segments containing extents in this region prior to
//          resizing the file, or choose a resize value such that only free
//          space is in the trimmed.

  • ORA-28500: connection from ORACLE to a non-Oracle system returned

    Hi All,
    My database is in 10.2.0.4 and has a dblink to sqlserver. The dblink works fine for normal queries.
    However when executing the following query from my oracle database
    SELECT ROWNUM, "ad2_id", my_name, "data"
    FROM "abc"@xyz.com
    WHERE "startDateTime" > (TO_DATE ('20100120', 'YYYYMMDD') - 1)
    AND "startDateTime" < TO_DATE ('20100120', 'YYYYMMDD')
    AND ROWNUM < 101
    I am getting the following error
    Note : Line 8 is "startDateTime" > (TO_DATE ('20100120', 'YYYYMMDD') - 1)
    ERROR at line 8:
    ORA-28500: connection from ORACLE to a non-Oracle system returned this message:
    ORA-02063: preceding line from xyz
    Note:
    1.data is of datatype VARCHARN(1000) and if we ignore that field I am able to get the output
    2. If I give the StartDateTime to a value without using to_date I am able to get the output.
    Could you please tell me what could be the problem ?
    Thanks in advance.

    The problem as far as I am know is if I try to select data and use both the where clauses I am getting the error.

  • Can oracle  function return more than one value

    Hi All
    please answer can oracle function return more than one value
    need one schenario
    regards

    Can any function, irrespective of the language, return multiple values?
    OF COURSE NOT!!
    So why do you think Oracle will now suddenly do it differently than all other languages? Never mind that it is impossible for a function (a unit/module of code) returning a memory address, to return multiple memory addresses. The machine code that does that, has not been yet been designed/implemented.
    I am continually amazed that this question is asked. It is about something so fundamental in almost every single 3rd and 4th generation language... something that is taught right at the start... the definition of what a procedure and what a function is.
    Sorry, but I simply cannot pull punches on this subject and smooth it over. There is something fundamentally wrong with your training as a programmer if you have to ask such a question about a function.
    And whatever programming skills you build on such a foundation, will be seriously lacking.
    I kindly suggest that you get back to the very basics of programming - and review and revisit until you fully understand it. There are no shortcuts in becomming a good programmer.

  • Customize invoice num of debit memo while doing returning to supplier

    Dear Consultants,
    We have a requirement to make a customization to modify the invoice number of debit memo which is created when user doing "return to supplier" transaction.
    My question is: Is there anyway to make this requirement without modify the oracle standard package or use trigger?

    Hi Kapil,
    Whatever you are mentioned is already there in SBO and I am using it.
    The flow is Purchase Order->AP Down Payment->Outgoing Payment->AP Invoice From Purchase order and it is working properly. Also you can adjust advance with other AP transaction of concern vendor.
    Which version you are using of SBO?
    Thanks,
    Sachin

  • I was playing with my ipad settings (it's an older model) and noted in the advanced settings of Safari there was a place to view website databases.  When I clicked on this I saw websites.  How do these get there and what does the space amount mean?

    I was playing with my ipad settings and noted in he advanced settings of Safari there was a place to view "website databases".  When I selected this I saw a multitude of websites.
    Can anyone tell me how these get there?  Can a website be posted even if it was never went to?  What does the space amount mean?  For example, 1.5 kb...is this quite a bit?  Would it indicate someone has gone to a site multiple times?
    I share my ipad with my teenage daughter and I'm trying to find out if she's lying to me.  Obviously she's swearing that she has "no idea" how these got there and I'm trying to keep her safe (she's only 14).
    Thanks everyone.
    Concerned Mom

    Think of your PC and the 'temporary internet folder' where it keeps cached copies of web pages or elements off a web page for 'quicker display the next time you visit'. That's pretty much what that folder is. 1.5K is tiny. Probably just a basic page with some text on it. (you might be confusing 1.5K with 1.5 megabyte....megabyte is large...it's roughly 1000 kilobytes, so the 1.5K is a tiny file)
    As far as I know, the only way info gets into that folder is if the browser has been to that site.
    if you have a concern there are browsers out there, McGruff is one i've seen recommended, that allow some degree of parental control and supervision. That or you could passcode lock the iPad or enable the restrictions to turn off some parts of the device to have some control.

    My thoughts on this is that the original PO was for 20TH.  therefore you will only be able to return 20TH against it regardless of what you receipted.  This is because SAP copies from the original PO document for the return and not the GR material document.
    You can try to edit the original PO and increase the amount to 20,020 and try again.  But I don't think you'll be able to edit that since it was fully receipted.
    Your probably going to have to do a return for 20TH and then a separate, stand-alone return for 20,000 TH.

    Let us rewrite your ODBC DSN a little bit... Your current odbc.ini looks like:
    [ACME_POS]
    Driver     = FreeTDS
    Description = ODBC Connection via FreeTDS
    Trace       = 1
    Servername  = 192.168.1.80
    Database    = dbo
    Let us change it a little bit so that we only need one config file - no odbcinst.ini nor freetds.conf file anymore:
    [ACME_POS]
    Driver =/usr/local/lib/libtdsodbc.so
    Server = 192.168.1.80
    Database
    = dbo     ####  I have some doubts that you have a SQL Server database called dbo - one database that always exists is master - so as a test use master here or get the real database name of the SQL Server database you want to connect
    Port = 60801 ## make sure it really is the correct port - best would be to check on the SQL server and then try telnet <ip> <port> if you can connect to the SQL server
    TDS_Version = 8.0
    QuotedId=YES
    Especially the last 2 parameters are mandatory. TDS_Version specifies the TDS Version you have to use to connect to the SQL Server and QuotedID is required for DG4ODBC as it surrounds objevt names by double quotes.
    What happens now when you try to connect with for example isql - the ODBC test utility shipped with the ODBC Driver manager?
    In addition, could you please do me another favour and check the word size of DG4ODBC and the ODBC Driver Manager as well as the ODBC Driver - just execute:
    file /u01/app/oracle/product/11.2.0/dbhome_1/bin/dg4odbc
    file /usr/local/lib/libtdsodbc.so
    file < the patch to your libodbc.so library>/libodbc.so
    and post the output.

  • OWM says "The directory OH /owm/wallets/oracle" does not exist

    Hello, RHEL 6, x86-64
    Oracle 11.2.0.4 Ent Edition
    I just upgraded the database from 11.2.0.3 to 11.2.0.4.  User reports "ORA-28365: wallet is not open" while trying to access tables in a certain schema.
    I have little experience with Wallet so I find out that I can "open" the wallet using OWM.  I start OWM and follow the instructions in section 9.4.3 of http://docs.oracle.com/cd/B28359_01/network.111/b28530/asowalet.htm#i1006711, and after step 2 which is to select a directory for the wallet, it tells me, ""The directory <OH>/owm/wallets/oracle" does not exist".  Ahh!  (By the way, this was when I was pointed to the ORIGINAL oracle home (11.2.0.3) because I wanted to see if the wallet existed there.
    Now I am moderately panicked.  What do I try next?  I gotta get the wallet open!
    Thank you in advance for taking the time.
    Humbly,

    Hi,
    If you have TDE encrypted objects, one must open the wallet from the sqlplus.
    1) make sure the sqlnet.ora from your $ORACLE_HOME/network/admin has ENCRYPTION_WALLET_LOCATION parameter set, example:
    ENCRYPTION_WALLET_LOCATION =
    (SOURCE =
      (METHOD = FILE)
      (METHOD_DATA =
      (DIRECTORY = /home/oracle/wallet)
    2) connect as sysdba and run:
       alter system set encryption wallet open identified by "wallet_password";
    3) select wallet status and path from : select * from v$encryption_wallet;
    4) select again from the encrypted objects

    Hi,
    I am able to access ACCESS DB from local system having Oracle DB in the same machine using Oracle Heterogenious services.
    Now when I try to access from remote system, I am getting error message as mentioned.
    ORA-28500: connection from ORACLE to a non-Oracle system returned this message:

    correctly and that you are connected to the server on which the file resides.
    (SQL State: 00000; SQL Code: -1023)

    That's a specific problem with mapped drives, on metalink:

  • Does WebCenter Spaces support Internet Explorer 9?

    Does WebCenter Spaces support Internet Explorer 9?
    Will it work in IE9 default view, or is compatibility view required?

    It is not listed in the compatibility matrix of the fusion middleware stack so webcenter isn't optimized (yet) for IE9. I bet in the next release they will fix the issues.
    There are currently some issues with IE9 and the ADF framework and because webcenter spaces is build on top of the ADF framework i can imagine that there can be some issues so currently you better run it in compatibility view... But just test it first with IE9. it might work...
