Oracle Export Utilty

Hi I have to export data from Oracle 9i to unix in flat file.
My data in oracle is having Chinese Traditional and User defined word along with English words. I am using Oracle 9i database.
In Oracle its in UTF8 encoding and i have to export data in BIG5 encoding in Unix.
Please tell me the possible ways to export data from Oracle to Unix with encoding conversion(UTF-8 to BIG 5).
Thanks for help in advance.
Rgds,
Anshu

You can not export this via exp utility.
you have to write your own procedures or sql scripts to transform the data in the palin file format or SDF format
but you have to open the file in binary form and save that in binary itself.
You have to Use PRO*C to perform this operation.
or you may user java program as
change the insert sql statement in my JAVA program, by including convert function to convert 1 encoding to BIG5 encoding (my Oracle is BIG5).
java program to get local encoding
System.getProperty ("file.encoding"), it gives 'WE8ISO8859P15'.
So change the INSERT sql to include conversion from 'WE8ISO8859P15' to BIG5 -->
vlSqlQuery = "INSERT INTO anytable (str_myfield) VALUES (convert " str_myfield ", 'WE8ISO8859P15', 'ZHT16BIG5'))";
str_myfield is data read from any txt file
The result can be tested from 'UTF8', 'AL32UTF8', 'AL16UTF16', 'US7ASCII', 'UTFE' to 'ZHT16BIG5'
Just try
Good Luck

    Hi,

can anyone help me that how can i do this, plz consider the case as this is a part of my project..

You should just be able to call the "imp" and "exp" executables ($ORACLE_HOME/bin) using the Runtime class. You can setup the various parameters for export / import in a parameter file.

  • Oracle Export and Import of XE application

I am trying to do an Oracle Export of an EX application and an Import to another PC. Can it be done?
I have encountered several problems. Either it brought over the application, but no Pages or I cannot access the Login page.
My reason for this is to handle application updates/changes for 50 odd remote users.
I am using APEX Release 2.1.0.00.39

Yes it was a full database export with all schemas.
I ran the following query before and after the import:
    select object_type, count(*) from dba_objects where owner = 'FLOWS_020100' group by object_type order by 1;
After the IMPORT, I had less LOBs (4) and Tables(8).
    The missing tables are:
    DR$WWV_FLOW_OH_IDX$I
    DR$WWV_FLOW_OH_IDX$K
    DR$WWV_FLOW_OH_IDX$N
    DR$WWV_FLOW_OH_IDX$R

    DR$WWV_FLOW_OH_PT_IDX$N

  • Oracle export file as source

    Hi,
I'm new to this group and to OWB as well. I am re-building in OWB a small sample application that I have previously built in another ETL tool.
One of the source files to be processed in this application is an Oracle export file. I have tried, and looked through the documentation, but it seems Oracle export format files are not supported as source files in OWB. This seems (to me) a strange omission in an Oracle ETL product, as imp/exp is an accepted an much-used way to exchange data.
So the question is: am I right (export files not supported) or must I look better? And if I'm right: how can I use the export file in OWB? My guess is creating an "external process".
    Thanks,
    Gerton

    Gerton,
You cannot directly read an export file and the format has not been published. Even through OWB you cannot read it... part of it I guess is to prevent a potential security hole (you would be able to read any data from an export file if you had OWB?).
What you can do: external process to load the export file (command line), run a mapping against the schema, and use a transformation with dynamic SQL to drop the schema again. Not an elegant solution... but it could work.
    Thanks,
    Mark.

  • Scripting Oracle export and import dumps

    Hello,
I would like to know if it is possible to script oracle export and import dump commands in a PL/SQL package rather than at command prompt. Also, how can i copy the export dump files across the network to a specific location.
I would really appreciate if someone can provide me with examples????
    Thanks.

    Yes, there's DBMS_JOB on 9i, it's sort of DBMS_SCHEDULER's 'grampa' ;)
Check the 9i docs (http://tahiti.oracle.com) and do some searches here and on http://asktom.oracle.com for more info.
Hoewever, in order to execute OS-commands, you'll probably need a JAVA wrapper.
    DBMS_JOB cannot do that.
    Examples can be found here:

If there is off the shelf solution for what i am trying to achieve?
    Many Thanks.

    Hello,
there are many ways to do this:
    - Java with PL/SQL wrapper,
    - call C code as external procedure from PL/SQL,
    - DBMS_SCHEDULER has some features related to this as well,
    - or write your own logic: for example creating a new file with UTL_FILE could be the trigger of the export.

    Hi,
the error might be related to the file system not supporting large files.
What is your target file system? FAT, FAT32 or NTFS?
For Windows the maximum file size is 4Gb files on FAT, theoretical 16Tb on NTFS.
Consider also that for this kind of question there is a specific forum: Export/Import/SQL Loader & External Tables

  • Oracle Export and import

    Hi,
I just want to do the export and import.
Source DB - Oracle 10g on Solaris 64 bit OS. (Export)
Destination DB - Oracle 9i on Windows OS (import).
Kindly confrm that these export and import is possible in oracle.
    Thank you,

add version=9.x while taking the export from solarisThat advice doesn't apply for 10g to 9i.
The export has to be done with the 9i "exp" binary, from a 9i ORACLE_HOME. It can be done over a SQLNet connection.
The subsequent import has to be done with the 9i "imp" binary.

    Hi Sergiusz,
    Thanks for reply.
When i tried on DB that was on Solaris 8, it was no working and all Double Byte char were becoming as ?.
But when i tried on DB that was on Solaris 10, It was giving correct values and this DB has following NLS_DATABASE_PARAMETERS values:
    NLS_NCHAR_CHARACTERSET : AL16UTF16
    NLS_CHARACTERSET : AL32UTF8
If i have one DB which have following NLS_DATABASE_PARAMETERS values:
    NLS_NCHAR_CHARACTERSET : UTF8
    NLS_CHARACTERSET : UTF8
Then still it will work fine?
I can not check this on above DB(that having NLS_NCHAR_CHARACTERSET and NLS_CHARACTERSET as UTF8) as its productiona and i dont have access to test it.
    Pls suggest.
    Thanks in advance.

  • Oracle Export Data pump API - job already exists

    Hi all,
I use stored procedure and using data pump API for export and import. I use simple schema export from http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/B14117_01/server.101/b10825/dp_api.htm . It works on the first executing, but the second time
I found the error ORA-31634: job already exists.
At the first running I check the Job state from dba_datapump_jobs master table, and it stated DEFINING after process completed.
    why is it happened?
    Really thanks in advance.
    Regards,
    Mr.K

My question go in direction to:
    1. Did I something wrong with Data Pump Utility?I do not think so. But may be with the existing schema :-(
    2. How is the correct way to export and import
sequences that they keep their actual values? If the Sequences exist in the target before the import, oracle does not drop and recreate it. So you need to ensure that the sequences do not already exist in the target or the existing ones are dropped before the import.
    3. When the behaviour described here is correct, how
can I correct the values that start again from the
last value that was used in the source database? You can either refresh with the import after the above correction or drop and manually recreate the sequences to START WITH the NEXT VALUE of the source sequences.
The easier way is to generate a script from the source if you know how to do it
