Oracle for DB2 UDB DBA's
Hi,
In our shop management decided to migrate few SAP R/3 applications to Oracle 10G (RAC) from DB2 UDB. I am a DB2 UDB DBA. i want to learn Oracle. Is there any manuals or published books for Oracle DBA for DB2 UDB DBA's in SAP environment.
As i am not new to DBA world, i want to compare Oracle with DB2 UDB . So that i can learn Oracle fast.

have a look here:
-> <a href="http://www.redbooks.ibm.com/abstracts/sg247048.html">Oracle to DB2 UDB Conversion Guide</a>
it's the other way round but should give you enough to work on

Connection Pools for DB2 UDB 8.2 on a SUN AS 8.1
Hi,
has somebody experience or knows a place where I can get more information in setting up a connection pool to a DB2 UDB 8.2 database from a SUN AS 8.1 server?
I'm struggling now for some weeks to get this working, but it doesn't work. I've tried the JDBC JAR's delivered with DB2 but get configuration errors. When I use the JDBC JAR's mentioned in the SUN AS documentation, it seems that the SUN AS 8.1 opens a connection, which is refused on the DB2 side.
The setup of a connection pool to a Postgres DB worked directly. The connection pool is correctly setup in the SUN AS but the ping doesn't work.
Hope somebody can help.
RegardsHi Jagadish,
added the finest to connector and resource-adapter. Here is the output:

Migration from Oracle to DB2 UDB on Unix
Hi SAP Expert
We have different SAP landscape in our company on Oracle DB
Due to High Oracle Licensing cost we are planning to migrate our Database to DB2 to reduce license cost
I would like to know how Reliable DB2 is for SAP? What is % of SAP installation on DB2 worldwide
Also will there be challenge migrating DB from Oracle to DB2
I would appreciate if you can provide guidance on the question
Thanks in advace
Thanks
Deelip> I would like to know how Reliable DB2 is for SAP? What is % of SAP installation on DB2 worldwide
DB2 was and is used on quite a number of internal SAP systems that create support packages (if you check the import logs of the support packages and search for "source system).
SAP doesn't give any exact numbers of installations compared to other databases, they did that in the past.
> Also will there be challenge migrating DB from Oracle to DB2
As with every database migration you'll have to check your custom programs and secondary indexes, backup strategies and methods and such.
> I would appreciate if you can provide guidance on the question
Be aware of the fact that you must have a certified migration consultant doing the migration on-site, otherwise SAP will deny OSS support and bill (see http://service.sap.com/osdbmigration).

Oracle Migration Workbench DB2 UDB 8.1 Plugins..
I want to migrate db2 udb 8.1 database to oracle 10g ...But iam not able to find the plugins for db2 udb 8.1 in oracle site...... Oracle migration workbench is asking for db2 8.1 plugins can u suggest where i can download ....
From an earlier post on this forum, found by searching for db2:
No plans for DB2 V8 support in the short term. The plugins are hardwired to work against the version they are built against, so it won't work with V7. There are other alternatives out there. One example would be from Ispirer: http://www.ispirer.com/products/ or
from SwisSQL: http://www.swissql.com/oracle-migration.html
[I assume 'so it won't work with V7' in the source post should read 'so the db2 v7 plugin will not work with anything other than db2 v7'] -
Best approach to migrate DB2 UDB V7 for z/OS
It seems that the latest migration workbench still doesn't work for DB2 UDB V7 on z/OS. What is the best approach to migrate DB2 UDB V7 for z/OS (about 10 GB) to Oracle 10g? Any suggestions/advices are greatly appreciated. Thanks.
GeorgeSQL Loader/External tables always works assuming you can get text files out of your old DB.

Hi all,
is this the right forum for DB2 9?
we are migrating from informix 9.4 to DB2 9, we are not spending any time on DB2 V8.
i know there are differences between V8 and V9, i don't want to get confused.....
what is the best source of info for administering DB2 9 under SAP?
I found : Database Administration for DB2 UDB for UNIX and Windows
but this is moreso for V8.
thanks for your thoughts.
NormaJean SebastianHi,
there is no much difference in adminstration between DB2 V8.2.2 and DB2 9.
The OSS note 930487 describes the use of DB2 9 in SAP environments. The note references other OSS notes like
913481 DB6: Archiving log files with DB2 log file management
which is important for decision for log file management and
899322 DB6: DB2 9 Standard Parameter Settings
which is important for correct db and dbm parameter tuning. The new features in DB2 9 and how they can be used in an SAP environment are described in several SDN articles and OSS notes.

Configuration issue with DRDA Oracle 10g to DB2 UDB v8
Oracle 10.2.0.4 linux RH 64 bit - DB2 UDB v8.2 linux 32 bit. I'm attempting to install transparent gateway to connect from my oracle instance to the db2 instance. I was successful until the step requiring the package rebind and this is the error I get:

Question - DRDA_REMOTE_DB_NAME - is the the O/S user? or the database instance name? For example, when accessing the DB2 instance, I login to the O/S as db2user but issue 'db2 connect to db2' when connecting to the instance - which value is DRDA_REMOTE_DB_NAME looking for?
Any help is appreciated - thanksHi,
You are right, DRDA_REMOTE_DB_NAME should have the name of the Db2 instance.
The error you are getting points to the fact that you are an multibyte character set in either Oracle and/or DB2. The gateway can connect, but first have to be able to map the character sets indicated by the error message:
TG4DRDA v10.2.0.1.0 grc=0, drc=-332 (865B,0001), errp=GDJREACS errmc=1208,819 <<== 1208 and 819 are the CCSIDs
Add the following entries to the gateway codepage.map file -
S 367 > US7ASCII
D 13488 > AL16UTF16
D 1200 = AL16UTF16
M 1208 = UTF8
MBC 1208 = 1208 1200
The default location of the file is $ORACLE_HOME/tg4drda/admin/codepage.map
These values map code page 1208 to Oracle's UTF8 character sets so that the gateway can translate UTF8 data into code page 819 (WE8ISO8859P1).

Equivalent parameter in Oracle for lock_timeout in db2
Hello Guys,
We are migrating from Db2 to Oracle database.
I wanted to know what is the equivalent parameter in Oracle for lock_timeout in db2.
Thanks in advance.I think there is no global prameter in Oracle, but you can determine a timeout for each statement or entire table
select for update wait seconds
Specify WAIT to instruct the database to wait integer seconds for the row to become available and then return control to you.
http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E11882_01/server.112/e26088/statements_10002.htm#SQLRF55372
Or Lock table for entire table
http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E18283_01/server.112/e17118/statements_9015.htm
DB2 locktimeout - Lock timeout configuration parameter
This parameter specifies the number of seconds that an application will wait to obtain a lock, helping avoid global deadlocks for applications.
If you set this parameter to0, locks are not waited for. In this situation, if no lock is available at the time of the request, the application immediately receives a -911.
If you set this parameter to
-1
, lock timeout detection is turned off. In this situation a lock will be waited for (if one is not available at the time of the request) until either of the following:
The lock is granted
A deadlock occurs.
Note: The value you specify for this configuration parameter is not used to control lock timeouts for event monitor target tables. Event monitors use a separate, non-configurable setting that will cause locks on event monitor tables to time out.
Recommendation: In a transaction processing (OLTP) environment, you can use an initial starting value of 30 seconds. In a query-only environment you could start with a higher value. In both cases, you should use benchmarking techniques to tune this parameter.

DB2 UDB 9.1 on z/OS to Oracle 11.2 on AIX
Dear All,
Need a road map for migration of DB2 UDB 9.1 on z/OS to Oracle 11.2 on AIX. It isn't a data migration, It is all about the application migration which would include DB2 UDB's - Table(Just the master data alone and will not include application data), Views, Procedures (Cobol 390 - code) , Batch jobs to Oracle 11.2.
Current i dint find any tool which supports DB2 UDB 9.1 on z/OS to Oracle 11.2. The db2 code is huge(More than 100 Procedures and some 25 Procedure are atleast of 25000 lines of code each). It's a huge application.
Tools which i have analyzed
SQL Developer / Oracle Work Bench - Doesn't support DB2 UDB 9.1 on z/OS.
If i have nothing left, i will be forced to re-write the entire application in plsql. If that is the case will the Cobol 390 (Batch Jobs) would be converted into Proc C* or Shell Scripting in AIX ?
Let me know if any tool is avaliable to convert DB2 UDB/Cobol-390 into plsql. Please let me know the best way to migrate.
Regards
V.HariUnfortunately there are not too much options, even if this was on the same AIX platform, there are several problems when upgrading from 8iR3 to 10gR2, first, 8i is not supported on the 5L AIX version, so you must make several work around for the upgrade process to work.
As previously directed the only possible way is to perform an export/import. You only have to make sure that roles such as CONNECT have changed and you must provide required user privileges. Do not blindly perform this migration process. I suggest you to read the Oracle 10g new features reference to look for all possible issues you may find.
Additionally I suggest you to setup a test environment where you can see if your application works as it is currently working on 8i.

Error in "Checking Availabe Space for the DB2 UDB for Unix..." phase
Hello,
We are in the middle of an Upgrade proyect from R/3 4.6C (kernet 4.6D EXT) to ECC 6.0.
As a first step we are doing an Heterogenous System Copy to migrate from servers with HP-UX B11.11/Informix 9.4 to servers with AIX 5.3/DB2 UDB 8.
We already did the database import with no errors. When we are installing R3 4.6C in the target server we are getting u201CMemory Fault (coredump)u201D error in the u201CChecking Availabe Space for the DB2 UDB for Unix, Windows Tablespacesu201D phase.
Any advice will be appreciated.
Best Regards

PeopleSoft CRM 8.8 migration from DB2 UDB v8.1x to Oracle 9i Rac
Hello,
What is the best way to migrate a PeopleSoft CRM 8.8 application (PeopleTools 8.44) from DB2 UDB v8.1x to Oracle 9i Rac? From what I can tell I have either two options; 3rd party software or data mover. Is there a Workbench tool to do this job or is data mover my best bet.... Just an FYI...The database size is around 100GB...
ThanksI would suggest that you get in contact with your Oracle account team with this request. We have groups inside Oracle with have experience migrating databases underneath PeopleSoft applications. They would be able to provide you with the best advice and assistance if required.

DB2 UDB - Oracle 10g Size Difference
Hi -
We are looking to migrate a production database from DB2 UDB to Oracle 10g. Can anyone provide any insight as to what kind of size changes we can expect?
Thanks!I don't know even the a b c of DB2 but still I can say that it must be saving some sort of metadata as oracle. In oracle 10g the extra tablespaces which you must have to create are SYSTEM and SYSAUX which actually store the metadata and AWR information. How big your current database is on DB2, check it with and without metadata.

Alternate for Update Stastics(Oracle) in DB2 for SAP instance
Hi,
We have installed SAP on DB2 database. Can any one tell me alternate of Update Stastics (Oracle based SAP system) in DB2.
Some one suggested me that it is RUNSTAT but I do't know the process and when it should run.
Thanks
Lokendra KumarHi,
In DB13 you will find job action Update Statistics + Reorgcheck all tables for DB2.
If Automatic RUNSTATS is activated then its not required to schedule this job in DB13. If Automatic RUNSTATS is not activated in your Database, then you should have to schedule this Job in DB13.
Refer [SAP Note 434495 - DB6: Maintaining table statistics via transaction DB13|https://service.sap.com/sap/support/notes/434495] to get more detailed information.

Hello all
Is anyone using DB2 UDB (on windows) for their repositories?
If so, could you please let me know what users/groups/databases need to be set up on DB2 before running the Master Repository wizard please?
All help and guidance appreciated.
Thanks
JGThanks, CTS.
Am I also required to set up the DB users as Windows users also, or is this not the case at all (installing DB2 gave me a db2admin Windows user. I am trying to work out if I need similar Windows users for Master and Work Repos - I am unfamiliar with the DB2 security model).
Any help appreciated.
Best regards
JG
