  • Migration to Oracle Forums

I've dealt with Oracle Forums before, I think not. It's been nice... see ya around.

I have not used Oracle Forums before, so tell me why you are not willing to migrate other than losing all of your Dukes.Unless they have wildly remodeled the resource in the last 6 months, I do not like the software they use for their search, nor the look and feel of their board. The entire interface is counter intuitive to me, and frustrated me greatly the entire time I tried to use it for support for my Oracle 9 and 10 products. I finally just started doing Google searches to get my questions answered, even thorugh we paid Oracle for support of our products.
I only liked the Sun forum searches ever for about 6 months or so. I believe that was when they were specifically using google searches for the back end (I think it said something to that effect.)
Other than that it was always useless.
When we were looking at DB's several years ago, I championed Sun and Oracle as our business solution, and our company migrated to it. I have been the one since that is the access point to Oracle support, and to be blunt, I've not been pleased. At this point, now several years down the road, our company, partially on my recommendation, is having a clean break from Oracle and their business philosophy, so it just is not likely that I will venture over into the Oracle Forums again.
If they follow through with their philosophy from the past, everyone that registers for the forums will probably start getting Oracle ads, and I have at times, even been SPAMMED from their business partners--I've been told by Oracle that it was a mistake, but yet, I am still getting SPAMMED from their partners. I've had to put all of Oracle on my SPAM list.Take a lesson from here when Sun messed up the forums - complain to the ISP provider rather than Oracle. That can lead to Oracle being marked as a spam source. And one might suppose that is something that they do not want to happen.

  • This forums is mostly similar to oracle forums

It is the first time I visit this forum.
I feel this forum is 90% like oracle's forum.
Is this forum is same developer between this and oracle's one?

If you are asking are the same people here? Yes, some of the same people are here, but I rather doubt 90 percent of the people here are also in the Oracle Forums.
If you are saying the forum formats look the same: yes, as already brought up, many of the forums look the same and may even use the same software.
If you are saying that the content of these forums and the Oracle forums are 90 percent the same, then I would totally disagree with you: almost all of these forums do not even mention Oracle and over on Oracle a vast majority of the forums do not mention Java.

  • Oracle certification courses for outsiders (not oracle employees)

    Hi,
I am also planning to take some Oracle certification courses . I am not an employee of Oracle currently. When I searched for the courses and study material, the course material costs very high around 1200$ for Order mgmt self study CD-ROM.

Can anyone please guide me on how outsiders can take the certifications, the study materials, other fee etc....I know its free for Oracle employees but what for us outsiders ? How can we do these ceritifications?
    Please guide.
    Thanks in Advance....

Thanks in Advance....Your only absolute mandatory expenditure is a the certification exam costs ... unless your particular certification objective also specifies a hands-on requirement.
I think you also need to frame your requirement as:
    - ' I am planning to study the required level to take the certification exam(s) X and 'Y'.'
+-' - Relevant Oracle supplied self-study and CD ROMs seem currently outside of my budget'
    - The 'free' and 'cheap' way to do it is by studying the appropriate official manuals. However a lot of people may find this too hard to work from these reference manuals.
--- There are some E-business books in the marketplace and to be published that may (or may noit) help, and I think some may be of poor quality.
    - By the way I notice you have selected a course with pre-requisites. Either you have the required pre-requisite E-Business knowledge, or you dont.
--- If you do you'll find the manuals for your selected certification much easier,
--- if you dont there are some books in the marketplace (some probably bad, and some to be soon published), thoat may help in this respect.
    - Sometimes there are third party suppliers/trainers who can help ... but the quality could be variable ..
If you think you've found cheap study material at a minimum check [www.certguard.com] to avoid unauthorised traning material.
Finally you could of course apply for employment at Oracle or for another employer who would pay for your training.

  • Oracle Wiki vs Oracle Forums

I must admit I am still a little unclear as to:
    - the purpose of the Oracle Wiki
    - how it should be used
    - how it relates to the Oracle Forums.
Currently, the Wiki seems like another version of Oracle Forums with a few additional bells and whistles. I am confused as to whether I should be using the Forums or the Wiki to raise my questions.
Can anyone explain this to me!?!
    cheers, iguru

Thanks for the response. I've just checked out the FAQ and I think I get it.
I was misled by the threads on the wiki home page. These look like questions that are more suited for the forums.
    From now on:
    - I'll keep one eye on the forums for my questions and answers
    - My other eye on the wiki for my collaborative content.
Lets hope I don't go cross-eyed ;-) (yes i know - very poor attempt at humour)
    cheers, iguru

  • Oracle forum watch : please send mail with subject as the question

    Hi Site Administrator,
The oracle forum send a mail if we are watching any topic. Earlier the subject was named as the question subject , which was very helpful.
Now we are gettting the mail with subject as the topic name ex java programming, new to java etc.
With the current form we have to see inside each mail to know what is the question asked. Earlier from the subject itself we were able to find what is/may be the question. Which has helped to easily and quickly scan through. So please change this new pattern to old pattern. Since that is the best practice.
    Hi moderator
Please put my question in the suitable section if it is not placed in the right one.

  • Mails from Oracle Forum is flooding my mail box

Oracle Forum updation mails are flooding my mail box. kindly let me know how can I stop the mails from Oracle Forum from flooding my inbox.
    Regards

Change your e-mail address. Like you I'm not interested in forum notifications via e-mail - I get a deluge of mails that are pretty meaningless.
So I changed my notification to weekly (to decrease the number of SMTP bounces on the OTN side) and added "+-no-spam-thanks+" to my e-mail address supplied to OTN for notification.
Works fine.. never had OTN complaining about it and have received private mails from OTN in the past (meaning that they did see and use this e-mail addy with suffix without problems).

Hi, I am learning to use Oracle Forum and I want to learn what type format use for example SQL code and small sample table data. Can you give me an example

    user531731 wrote:
For example do you use SQL Plus to copy and paste SQL code and the results to the forum as it has nice format. The formatting , within this forum, is not based on the tool used to get the result but by using the code tag, which formats the result. • RV082 blocks Oracle forum :/

    Hello
Lately we're having strange problems with our RV082. It blocks oracle forum site -
    http://forums.oracle.com/forums/
If I want to enter a oracle forum it displays 403 Forbidden and nothing more :/
If I try to connect from other router in our firm everything is all right.
We tried to disable firewall but that didn't helped. We don't have ProtectLink.
If anyone know the issue I'll be glad to hear you story.
We're seeking solution to this but nothing came out by now ...
