Oracle Globus Development Kit
Hi
I have downloaded Oracle Globus Development Kit. When I tried to install it i had a lot of errors.
I haven't seen any posts about OGDK (installation, using).
Did anybody succesfull install this tool?
Does Oracle still continue support this tool? Will Oracle plan to make new release (more stable)?
I haven't seen 10G products (database, application server). I think that oracle focused on 10G but not on OGDK. Is it true or not?
Hello,
Oracle Globus Development Kit (OGDK) includes APIs that make it easy for customers using Globus Toolkit 2.0 or 2.2 to use Oracle Database. This was tested with Oracle9i Database. It should continue to work with Oracle 10g Database. We haven't seen much interest in the OGDK in the market.
Oracle 10g includes a lot of features for grid computing. You don't need to use OGDK to do grid computing.
cheers,
Brajesh.

Database connection problem in oracle sql developer kit?
Status : Failure -Test failed: Listener refused the connection with the following error:
ORA-12505, TNS:listener does not currently know of SID given in connect descriptorHi,
You have to check the service_name in the tnsnames.ora file located in the oracle installed folder.
Check one more whether the services are up or not.

New User - What's the difference Portal Builder and PDK Developer Kit?
I am a bit confused. I have been working with Portal Builder creating some pages. I have currently run across the topic of PDK Developer Kit. How is this different than Portal Builder or is it? Is the PDK download for personal PCs or for the server? What does PDK provide that Builder doesn't?
Thanks.Hi,
The Oracle Portal Developer Kit (PDK) is a very important & useful component of Oracle Portal. It helps developers ( like me ) to easily convert existing applications into powerful Portlets. It also helps us to get some "context" information from the Portal & take decisions based on it.
You can comfortably use the Portal Builder with the supplied Portlets & develop business solutions - however, at some point, you will notice that you will be working within a confined box. If you need to think "outside-the-box", you will defenitely need to have a look at PDK.
I have shown you the tip of the Iceberg - I would encourage you to download & explore the powerful capabilites of Oracle PDK.

Oracle Forms API Development Kit
Does anyone know where to find the forms development kit? I have done a search of OTN and of TechNet and have received 0 results. Does this exist any more? I found it referenced in the FormsAPI Master S/W.
JosephIt's on http://otn.oracle.com/products/forms/techlisting.html - search for "Forms API Launchpad" on this page (it's close to the bottom).

Attn: Installing the Sample Applications from the ifs Development Kit
There are a number of problems with the sample Applications included in the
Developer's kit. These need to manually fixed in order to get the demos to work.
#1: Solaris Only
The install of the iFS Development Kit, replaces the existing adk.jar with a new
one containing some additional classes. Unfortunately the install process does not
set the correct privileges on the new version of adk.jar. Please ensure that the
file $ORACLE_HOME/ifs/lib/adk.jar is world readable.
Bug # 1304730
This issue will be resolved on the next drop of the Oracle Internet File System
development kit.
#2: Generic
There is a problem with the way in which the login.jsp establishes a connection to
the repository. The current code makes incorrect assumptions about the name of the
iFS Service and the schema password.
The following changes are required.
In order to connect to the repository 4 pieces of information are required.
1. The iFS User Name
2. The iFS User's password
3. The properties file to be used
4. The database password of the user who owns the iFS Schema
The Login.jsp needs to be altered so that it requests these four arguments before
attempting to establish a connection to the repository.
(The current version only requests username and password).
All four arguments need to be provided as arguments to the login method on the
underlying JavaBean that the JSP invokes when it want to open a connection
to the repository.

#3. Making the BaseRendererClass available to the Protocol Servers
Note this step is not required if you have the 1.0.8.3 patch set installed.
Install the BaseRenderer Class. The BaseRenderer class is delivered in the jar file
ifsdevkit.jar and can be used to simplify the task of creating a custom renderer.
Unfortunately the jar file containing this class is not referenced in any of the Classpaths
used by the iFS protocol servers. This means that they will not be able to load any
customer renderers that extend BaseRenderer. In order to make BaseRenderer available
to the Protocol Servers it need to be placed in the appropriate directory under
<ORACLE_HOME>/ifs/custom_classes.
Extract the class from the ifsdevkit.jar.
ifsdevkit.jar is located in <ORACLE_HOME>/ifs/lib after the devkit has been installed.
jar -xvf ifsdevkit.jar
extracted: META-INF/MANIFEST.MF
extracted: BaseRenderer.class
Create the following directory heirachy in <ORACLE_HOME>/ifs/custom classes
oracle/ifs/server/renderers
Copy <ORACLE_HOME>/ifs/lib/BaseRenderer.class to
<ORACLE_HOME/ifs/custom_classes/oracle/ifs/server/renderers
That should do it.

Oracle SQL Developer Data Modeler start up error
Hi All,
I just downloaded Oracle SQL Developer Data Modeler (2.0.0.57.0) [Released 1 July 2009] by selecting the option "Oracle SQL Developer Data Modeler for Windows (This zip file includes the JRE)"
After I installed the same and tried to run it by clicking datamodeler.exe, I get the following error message
"unable to create an instance of the Java virtual machine located at path:..\jdk\jre\bin\client\jvm.dll"
On the same machine I can successfuly run the Oracle SQL Develper with no errors. My machine is having Windows XP Professional SP3.
Any ideas? If there was a problem with Java, than the Oracle SQL Developer should also not run. But as stated it runs with out any error but the Oracle SQL Developer Data Modeler gives the above error.
Regards,
JAA1491 - The above problem has nothing to do with the memmory. I tried on a 400 MB RAM, 900 MB RAM, 1.5 MB RAM & 2 MB RAM with the same arror.
"unable to create an instance of the Java virtual machine located at path:..\jdk\jre\bin\client\jvm.dll"
http://i30.tinypic.com/9vkwf6.jpg
2 - There are two "datamodeler.exe: files
One is at D:\datamodeler\datamodeler.exe
2nd is at D:\datamodeler\bin\datamodeler.exe
The same error occurs with both the files.
3 - The Oracle SQL Developer Data Modeler version is "Oracle SQL Developer Data Modeler (2.0.0.57.0) [Released 1 July 2009]" and the file I downloaded is "Oracle SQL Developer Data Modeler for Windows (This zip file includes the JRE) - (57M)"
If I look in "D:\datamodeler\jdk\jre\README.txt" I find
"Java(TM) Platform, Standard Edition Runtime Environment Version 6"
If I run "D:\datamodeler\jdk\jre\bin\javacpl.exe" I get
http://i30.tinypic.com/mt8ocn.jpg
If I run "D:\datamodeler\jdk\jre\bin\jureg.exe" I get
http://i28.tinypic.com/30boiyo.jpg
If i check at the control panle add/remove program
http://i30.tinypic.com/1428tba.jpg
If I go to "http://www.java.com/en/download/manual.jsp" and download "jre-6u16-windows-i586-s.exe" and run it.
If I go to "C:\Program Files\Java\jre6" I find the same files as in "D:\datamodeler\jdk\jre"
I am able to run Oracle SQL Developer with out any kind of error let alone the above one. But with Oracle SQL Developer Data Modeler I get the above mentioned error no matter what I try.
As the error states "unable to create an instance of the Java virtual machine located at path:..\jdk\jre\bin\client\jvm.dll". The file "jvm.dll" is located at two places. One at "D:\datamodeler\jdk\jre\bin\client\jvm.dll" and the second at "D:\datamodeler\jdk\jre\bin\server\jvm.dll"
A similiar problem occurs with JDeveloper with the fllowing solution
http://forums.oracle.com/forums/thread.jspa?threadID=506339&start=0&tstart=0
Which states the following
"hello!
in the problem with JDeveloper i have a solution. The jdk have a file jvm.dll in the path: jdk/jre/bin/client/jvm.dll this is the problem ... now in the path:jdk/jre/bin/client/ojvm has a file with the same name if you copy and paste this file to the another path, now its works fine your Jdeveloper.
Jdeveloper use two files to jvm.dll to work one in the folder /client and other in /server copy the same file to the two locations for precaution
for me work fine thanks..."
I tried to do the same (Copy from client folder to server folder)
D:\datamodeler\jdk\jre\bin\client\jvm.dll
COPIED THIS FILE TO
D:\datamodeler\jdk\jre\bin\server\jvm.dll
Nada. So I reversed it (copied from server folder to client folder)
D:\datamodeler\jdk\jre\bin\server\jvm.dll
COPIED THIS FILE TO
D:\datamodeler\jdk\jre\bin\client\jvm.dll
Does not work. So I tried another solution stated at the same forum entry
"Well,
i solved the problem by this way :
<SQLDEVELOPER>/jdev/bin/ide.conf
In this file, change this line :
AddVMOption -Xmx512M
by
AddVMOption -Xmx256M
Now, the executable is lauching correctly. No more errors with Java Virtual Machine.
But is it a good thing to solve it like that ?"
But the ide.conf file is only at "D:\sqldeveloper\ide\bin\ide.conf" which is for the SQL Developer and not the SQl Developer Data Modeler
Correct me if I am wrong but
JRE = Java Run Time Envoirment
JDK = Java Development Kit
And Oracle SQL Developer Data Modeler needs JRE and not JDK. In any case I download JDK
jdk-6u14-javafx-1_2-windows-i586.exe (121,306 KB) and installed it but no succcess.
I tried every thing except completely re-install my whole PC.
Any help will be much appreciated.

Problems with the eway development kit (eDK) on CAPS 5.1.1
Hi all!
I'm having difficulties trying out the eway development kit(CAPS 5.1.1). I would like to create an oracle AQ eway, but first of all i would like to test out the samples included in the documentation, for instance the edkfile eway.
I've build the sar file from the post implementation zip file, and loaded it in the repository.
When looking at the new eway in the designer, the eway don't have any methods. I was expecting to be able to expand the EDKFILE eway and find a method called write.
The same thing happens to the other samples also. I've build the sar files as described in the guide. Maybee I'm missing out on something.. Well, have anyone tried this out successfully?Hi,
We are using JCAPS5.0 , and I didnt find any eDK plugin with JCAPS,Probabily its available but I am not aware of it or what I didnt know. Can you please provide me information ,how can I develop my own customised eWay and use it in my project.
Thanks,

Hi,
I'm not familiar with Olite. I've downloaded and installed Oracle BPEL PM and it comes bundled with Olite. I'd like to develop applications in Olite, so I guess I need Mobile Development Kit. Is there a way I can download and install it separately?

Is it true that ZAC needs Java Developmement kit installed on the client?
Because my ZAC client got the following error:

When I reinstall JDK it is okay. When I rename the registry key 'Java

makes it works.
But I don't know why ZAC need JDK since I only want end user install JRE
instead.

Java Development Kit is under the GNU General Public License (GPL), thus making it free software. The Sun JDK is not under the GPL, it's under a proprietary license, but is available without cost.
The OpenJDK is under the GPL (with the classpath exception)
I searched on the internet and many people says: Java Development Kit is under the GNU General Public License (GPL) and You don't can to distribute your programs compiled with Java Development Kit as a commercial software or to sell a product written in javaThey are wrong. The license of the software only governs how you may use it and what you can do with its source code. It does not restrict what you can do with the things you build with it (as long as you don't use parts of the JDK itself in your product)
, You need a business license if you want to sell a product written in java, I mean: You must to buy: Java for Business JDK/JRE. This information is true? No.
[Java for Business|http://www.sun.com/software/javaforbusiness/index.jsp] is a program by Sun/Oracle that allows you to buy support for the JDK. For example it allows you to use (and be supported with) the JDK 1.4.2, which is otherwise at its end-of-life.
You don't need to buy that if you just want to build and sell software using the JDK. -

Newbie - Where to install Developer Kits?
We just installed Oracle 9iAS on two hosts. One is our infrastructure box, and the other is our Portal server.
These represent our first attempt to learn this stuff, so they probably won't be used for production.
Can I install the Developer Kits (using Oracle Universal Installer) on either host (and under the existing instance)?
What's the recommended practice in production?
Thanks,
-Tony.Hi,
You can install the developer kits wherever you like, what matters is that you correctly deploy you portlet applications successfully.
For Java Portlet Applications, you must deploy the application (usually contained within a ".ear" or ".war" file - read the J2EE specs for more details on those) into the OHS/OC4J host.
Essentially, a Developer Kit is just that - each developer could have their own local copy of the kit on their local NT machine (or whatever they use).

The Java forums are here:

Right now you are in the JDeveloper forum - and by the way, if you download JDeveloper you'll get everything you need to develop and test run your servlet.
