Oracle instance running on a system with low open file descriptor

Hello.
We have 10.1.0.4 on SuSE 9 on x86 64bit Sun servers.
We have databases that if started manually come up without the warning, but if started via a shell script scheduled through a crontab start up with this warning: "Oracle instance running on a system with low open file descriptor".
My understanding is that it has to do with OS ulimit. it appears that non-interactive shell (crontab) does not set the nofiles at 65536.
All our system are set up exactly the same way. The problem is, though, that some systems do not report the warning even when started non-interactively.
My question is this: assuming my nofiles ulimit is in fact too low on all systems, why would some systems report the warning and others would not? Is there anything database specific the instance looks for when it starts, such as the number of datafiles in the database, instance memory size, etc..., which would make the instance warn in some cases but not the others?

This is a good reference and we may end up looking into the patch bundle associated with the bug.
But does anyone have any idea why the systems that are set up the same exact way would warn on systems and not on others?
Also, the Metalink note talks about init.crsd. I have not build an association between this inconsistency and RAC.
What I do see is that if we start up our database non-interactively (where ulimit -n resolves to 1024, instead of 65536) the warning is generated, in some cases.
Perhaps, the 1024 is too low. But then my question is why would Oracle think it is too low only on some servers and not all?

System error 9 bad file descriptor

Hello. I am running system 10.3.9 and when I try to sync I get this error message, "system error 9 bad file descriptor." Needless to say I am unable to sync. Has anyone run into this problem? Are there any suggestions to fix it?

We have authorization problem, restric by OHD technical name.

Oracle Portal item cannot be deleted using dav (Bad File Descriptor)

I cannot delete an Oracle Portal item with webdav. I get an error 500 and the item is not deleted.
When this same user logs in as portal user with a browser, the item kan be deleted.
So the user permissions are probably not the problem.
What can be the problem?
How do I have to solve this?

In the error log, you also often find back message :

This has probably nothing to do with it, you also have this message when the delete is successful.

In the errorX.log file, I find back these lines too:

You may want to try a rebuild of the DAV tables in Oracle Portal. Before you do so, take a backup of the Portal repository database to ensure that you can revert back in case of disaster.
Rebuilding the DAV tables is done with the following instructions :
<li> Start SQL*PLUS and connect to the Portal metadata repository database as PORTAL user
<li> Execute wwdav_loader.create_dav_content :

CC 5.2 fails with "cannot open file /tmp/*ir*"

Hi,
compilation fails with an error message like
"Could not open file "/tmp/06710.TEMPLATE_FILE.ir"". The problem seems to be that the compiler once in a while is "leaking" these temp files (they seem to accumulate in /tmp over time) and the compiler cannot overwrite a different user's temp files. I am not sure if it matters, but all this is in a dmake context.
Why is CC generating these files in /tmp and not locally? Why doesn't it make them more unique e.g. 06710.user.TEMPLATE_FILE.ir? Is there a way to work around this problem?

This doent pertain to overclocker casue if you go over 219 fsb on 800 fsb pcu it disables mat..
Who here with an 865, 875 mobo can run 2 or 2.5 cas timings in ultra turbo with less then 215 FSB.
If so which brand ramm and what bios and board do you have .
I am about to order ramm thats iss 3-3-3-8 but i would rather get the corsair xmas which is 2-3-3-6 if id be able to run it in ultra turbo..
what do you think and all responses definately appreciated.....

All i know is that before i flashed my bios on my old pcb, all was wel in ultra turbo ..
After the flash couldnt do it anymore regardless of old flash and msi on the phone for 2 hours....
I think the 875 p has some hidden number which it calculates as being dafe or not, if your memory regardless of what timings you set it at reads lower then it thinks safe you will crash at boot.
Thats why i am making all this hype about memory . I cant afford to rMa belive you me i want that corsair twinx1024-3200cpt thats listed in the ramm module spec. Only thing is how to tell if its version 1.1 like they ask . I dont think version 1.1 is abtainable. this is referring to the ramm list for the neo 875 fisr pcb 2.0 . From what you are telling me, is anyone will work and to get2-2-2-5 if i can , but i think there might be a catch to this when the boards reads it. Im unsure. If so how to fake out the bios and let your manuel timings stick.
On my last boord after the flash , even when i flashed back i after loading default and running onece i restarted and set them to 3-4-4-8 and if i even went from slow to fast i could not boot. This only hapened in dual mode. In single i could hit ultra turbo....

no, MAT can be still enabled with SPD disabled. for example i have the performance mode enabled, but i set my RAM timings manually. but i said that before, you must have missed it...
i didnt understand what you were trying to say here, your english is pretty weird. 2-2-2-5 timings can be done only with the new Corsair XL memory, and only under 215MHz. this kinda "is" the ultra turbo mode i guess, because you cant tighten the timings anymore.
and as that other guy said, 2-3-2-6 rated memory is always a safe bet as far as compatibility is concerned, from Kingston, Corsair or whoever. the new BIOS version dont have any problems with that from my experience.
as i said, i dont understand your other questions, but i hope your memory issue is solved.

Problem installing oracle in windows on a system with a share drive

I am attempting to install oracle on windows at work. I have access to a share drive that has an oracle inventory. I do not have permission to write here.
When I try to install oracle locally on my C: drive, by default the installation looks in the N: drive oracle inventory and since I do not have privileges to write there, it errors out.
how do i set it so that the installer creates an oracle/inventory locally on my C: drive?

On Windows registry key 'inst_loc' defines the Oracle inventory location,obviously a previous installation set this location to shared drive N: . Unfortunately it's NOT supported to change this , statement from Oracle:
Development have stated that manually changing the "inst_loc" string in the Windows registry (under HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Oracle or HKLM\Software\Oracle) is officially unsupported.
You could create a 'clean' machine (remove completely all Oracle components including registry keys and start again with a fresh installation)

Dear Mayank,
You can use "CGICMD.dat" file. This file can be used to add key mappings.
You add following lines at the end of this file.
MYKEY: USERID=<user_name>/<password>@<connection_string> %*
You need to restart your OC4J Instance to make above changes effective..
Then, in your web.show_document url include "CMDKEY=MYKEY".
This will definitely solve your problem.

RUNAS another user: assistance with my batch file for control panel and explorer

Hello, for desktop support on end user or multi/generic user pcs it is nice to access common commands quickly from a batch file to run under your account. In xp both explorer and control panel apps launched without issues. The primary issue for explorer
is it appears to ignore the runas command (but the user has permissions to explorer so no error) while the control panel apps ignores run as well but does not have permissions so generates an error. The other commands all execute as the attempting admin's
account.
who it is for: the user with the admin account to execute on the user's desktop whom is a nonadmin
**please note, the commands appear to work if you do have admin rights**, the logged in user does not have admin rights to these utilities like in a common corporate environment.

Issue#1:
With win7 if you do a run as for explorer.exe via batch it will open, but will still be running under the signed in user. I have searched many threads on various sites and have not found a working solution for batch, this may be something I need to retire.
Issue#2: all control panel applets fail to launch through various methods.

You guys I appreciate the feedback but please read my entire post and help if related, this is getting a bit frustrating.
a. I am not developing a powershell solution or "how do I launch them via command prompt" that is well known. The goal is to create an easy to use "run as helper" script for those that are not as savvy or do not have the commands memorized.
Even so many of your suggestions do not work because the user logged in does not have admin rights and the commands are blocked because of this restriction.
b. This is for the batch file in question, NOT "how do I launch command prompt as an admin"
c. Again, several options work, several do not (network connections and programs and features do not) must likely due to same limitations as explorer.exe or UAC
d. this is not "how do I launch the utilities by command line" it is "how do I launch them as the admin WHEN the current user does not have admin rights". The entire script works on a pc if you have admin rights because its launching
it instead AS the current user, in that case the current user has admin rights therefore it doesnt reproduce the issue.
e. running by control.exe using the app name or with cpl does not resolve the issue.
f. I did not post that command prompt is having issues launching, I wrote a couple times that the options in my script do work such as command prompt. Even if you launch command prompt you cannot launch programs and features or network connections with your
admin account with or without an additional runas command.

I would right click on 1.jpg. Select Open with... Select Choose default program... Pick Photoshop and make sure you check "always use the selected program to open this kind of file."
D:\1.jpg

Opening a recent file accumulates with previous opened files

If I save a file in PDF reader and then later return to it and it has accumulated with previous files. I presently try to open a file which is one page and it displays a 32 page document that I have to go through all of them to find the one I am looking for can anyone help me with this one ?

What do you mean? Reader does not combine your files... It's technically impossible for it to do so.

New user needs help with quickly opening files

I have a new imac that I purchased 8/2010. Is there a way to open a file or attachment without the download window opening up to enable you to view the file? Is there a setting that would allow me to just click the file attachment (email) like an excel document and it just opens immediately. Im getting a little aggrevated going through all the steps to open and close an attached email file. this is my first mac, so I am learning. Thanks

Is there a "Quick Look" button at the top of the message?
Right-click the attachment and choose "Quick Look".

Oracle instance

I have installed Oracle 8i on Linux 6.0. The database craetion
with DB Config Assistant also went of well. After that when I
try to start oracle using 'dbstart' or 'oracle' it just returns
to the linux prompt without any messages or errors. At this
stage when I use dbassist, it can't find any oracle instance
running.
Pls help with possible solutions.

I am at the same point in the install, but I am having problems
creating a database. Are you sure that your database creation
was successful? I got the error "ORA-01012: not logged on" when
trying to run the first dbassist script.

while startup the database I'm getting below error message.
