Oracle linux useful links?

Hi, i want to learn oracle linux, any useful links/resources/suggestions?

The standard installation package manager is the yum utility, which unlike rpm resolves software dependencies and prevents you from damaging your system. You can use yum to query and install software. For example:
yum list *rdbms*
yum provides /bin/ls
yum search perl
yum info oracle-rdbms-server-12cR1-preinstall
yum install firefox
After installing the appropriate prerequisite package you can use ssh with X forwarding to display the Oracle universal installer (OUI).
yum install oracle-rdbms-server-12cR1-preinstall
mount /dev/cdrom /mnt
passwd oracle
ssh -X oracle@localhost
/mnt/runInstaller

  • How connect the oracle/Linux using ODBC

I want to connect the Oracle which install on Linux using Odbc, so my win98 machine can connect with the oracle.
But I don't know how to do ? May I install some Odbc driver in the Linux machine? and install odbc driver in my win98 machine?
    my email: [email protected]

    You may use this way:
    1. Start on the server (Linux) Net*8 listener (lsnrctl start)
    2. Install on the client (win98) Net*8 and configure it (Net8 Easy Configuration)
    3. Install on the client (win98) ODBC drivers for ORACLE (by ORACLE or others) and configure it

  • Is migration possible from InformixDB (SUNOS) to Oracle (Linux) using OMWB?

    Hi
Is it possible to migrate from Informix under SUN OS platform to Oracle under Linux platform using Oracle Migration work bench.
If so should it be offline capture or online capture? Please provide some detailed info.
    Regards
    Prabhu

Kgronau - Thanks for the detailed update.
Given below are the detailed information.
I am trying to migrate from Informix Dynamic server 7.3. I downloaded OMWB from the specified location, got the informix jar file and informix7 plug-in file. Completed the setup of OMWB wizard.
As I dont have password of informix user, I decided to go for offline capture.
Followed the steps provided in the user guide, copied the shell script from the omwb\offline_capture\Informix7\IDS7_DSML_SCRIPT.sh to Infomix Dynamic server. On executing shell script, it created 2 folders one sysmaster and informix database folder name with dat files in it.
The dat files in the database folder name are

Copied the 2 folders along with the .dat files to the folder omwb\offline_capture\Informix7\.
Then started OMWB wizard and opted for capture source -- > offline source model load --> On click of load button browsed to the folder omwb\offline_capture\Informix7\. It loaded all the files and showed me the status available, on click of next button and opting "No" for oracle model proceeded to Finish.
It completed loading with pop-up message as Loading Source Model Complete with Number of Errors 0 and Number of Warnings 0. Expanded the tree struture of Source Model and found Databases(1) with our informix db name. To my understanding it should show the number of components loaded with respect to each objects. But it displayed 0 at end of all the objects. For example Stored Procedure (0), Tables (0).
Could you please let me know if I have done some thing wrong or missed any steps.
Please let me know in case of any further info required.
    Thanks

  • Poor SSD disk IO speed in Oracle Linux 6.3 (Windows migration)

    Hello,
I am trying to migrate from Windows to Oracle Linux, but I'm seeing very poor disk IO speeds. It's probably a tuning thing, but I'm relatively new to Oracle Linux and could use some detailed advice.
I took one physical server and migrated it from Windows 2008R2 to Oracle Linux 6.3 while maintaing the same Oracle version (11.2.0.3 Enterprise with ASM) and the same hardware (quad CPU 48 core HP DL585 G7 with 128GB RAM, 7 LSI 9200-8e HBAs, 28 Samsung SSD Drives). Disk IO performance, as measured using Oracle IO Calibration, was ~7,800MB/Second and 440K IOPS under windows but fell to ~2,400MB/Second and 250K IOPS under Linux.
Oracle Linux and the DB were installed using default values. The Oracle tools seem to have done a great job setting all of the obvious IO tuning parameters like the scheduler, but I figure that there are other important IO-related OS or DB parameters and that I have failed to configure the system properly.
My goal for the migration is sequential read IO speed and I would have bet money that Linux would provide better performance than Windows. I still think that it should. What basic IO tuning should I do for Oracle Linux using ASM and SSD drives?
    Thank you!
    Some details:
Oracle DB 11.2.0.3 enterprise installed via the GUI with the "Data Warehousing" template
ASM - single disk group, 28 SSD disks, AU=4MB
Oracle memory: Automatic memory management, 64GB allocated
    Non-default Oracle params: filesystemio_options=setall, disk_asynch_io=true
    Edited by: 975524 on Dec 7, 2012 8:56 AM

Thanks "dude" for the advice. Unfortunately, I am still seeing low IO speeds.
The default scheduler for OEL 6.3 with the DB pre-install package is deadline, which seemed like a far better choice than CFS. Based on your advice, I tried noop this morning and got the same results. I also tested with and without hugepages and saw only a small difference - at least in IO speed - I did not test overall DB performance. Lastly, I understand the /dev/shm issue, but even with the default configuration I'm getting 64MB allocated to Oracle, which is far more than is needed to test sequential IO - in fact I can get better results by using less RAM.
To answer your questions, I am testing using Oracle IO Calibration, which is an IO testing feature of the Oracle DB that is similar to the standalone Oracle Orion tool. I also performed a few tests using IOMeter, but found that the Linux version of that product was not giving me consistent data. The overall trend was the same however - IO on the Linux version far lower than the same hardware running Windows. The system is functioning very well, so I assume that everything has been installed correctly, but I do not think that it was installed optimally - thus my cry for help.
I am so surprised that Linux is showing slow IO!

  • Help needed with variable - trying to get data from Oracle using linked svr

Sorry if I posted this in the wrong forum - I just didn't know where to post it.
I'm trying to write a simple stored procedure to get data from an oracle database via a linked server in SQL Enterprise manager. I have no idea how to pass a variable to oracle.
Here's how I would get the variable in SQL:
    declare @maxkey INTEGER
    select @maxkey= MAX(keyfield) from [server].Data_Warehouse.dbo.mytable
    select * from [server].Data_Warehouse.dbo.mydetailtable where keyfield=@maxkey
the select statement I need to do in oracle would use that variable like this:
    select * from OPENQUERY(OracleLinkedServer,'select
    * from ORACLEDB.TABLE where keyfield > @maxkey')
and I get this message: OLE DB provider "OraOLEDB.Oracle" for linked server "OracleLinkedServer" returned message "ORA-00936: missing expression".
I realize that I can't pass the @maxkey variable to oracle - so how do I accomplish this?

Please refer the example in this link which deals with Oracle date format.
You can finnd a command DECODE which is used for date formats. If you have a look at whole theory then you will get an idea.

i have installed Oracle 64 bit client in the SAP Server and also copied the 64 bit version of dboraslib.dll to the DIR_LIBRARY path. I am able to view the oracle tables in the oracle client.
But, when i create the linked server, it gives the above error.
If i install 32 bit version of Oracle client in the SAP Server, i am able to create the linked server in the db level, but, it says "Work Process restarted, session terminated" message in the Z program in SAP.
The same works in the test environment where both are 32 bit servers. problem is when SAP server is in 64 bit and non sap is in 32 bit.
    Please suggest.
    Thanks and Regards,
    Nagu

check the workprocess traces for errors (and/or SM21). It seems that the system is "not aware" that an Oracle client is installed.
64bit programs can´t load 32bit libraries/DLLs that´s why the workprocess dumps when you use the 32bit client.

  • Linked Servers - Sql server 2005 to connect to Oracle 11g using ldap.ora instead of tnsnames.ora

We have a SQL Server 2005 64bit box that needs a linked server created to Oracle 11g 64bit box. I have all the Oracle client software installed and can successfully connect to the Oracle database using SQL+ on the SQL Server 2005 64bit box. When I create
the linked server and select the OraOledb.Oracle provider, I get the TNSNames error. The Oracle server does not use tnsnames.ora it uses OLAP.ora to resolve. How do I get Linked server to stop trying to connect via TNSNames and use the OLAP.ora file instead?
I can't find any articles for this specific issues. All Oracle examples tell you to use TNSNAMES. The Oracle server is not under my companies control so I can not force the vendor to use tnsnames instead of OLAP.

    Hi,
    Have you got a resolution?
    Thank you.
