Oracle Lite - in line quiries
9iLite 5.0.2.8
Do in-line queries work?
example
select level, a.col_a, b.col_b
from tab_A, (select col_b
from tab_c
where col_c = 1 ) b
where a.col_D = 1
start with a.col_a = 0
connect by b.col_b = prior a.col_a
We have more complex queries that work on an enterprise verison of the DB, but these sql statements all fail when executed on 9iLite.
Assuimg their are limitations to the complexity of
the sql that can run on 9iLite, is there a document
which hi-lites these limitations and possible work-arounds. I have read the SQL Reference for 9iLite - it documents what syntax is allowed very well.
I am suspecting that temporary objects in 9iLite sql may not be allowed.
Thanks in advance for any input.
The actual syntax is ...
select level, cls.isActive, cls.application_class_id,
menu.application_class_id_parent, menu.menu_order,
menu.menu_id
from application_class cls,
( select *
from application_menu
where menu_profile = 1 ) menu
where menu.application_class_id (+) =
cls.application_class_id
and isActive = 1
start with (cls.application_class_id = 0 or
menu.application_class_id_parent is null )
connect by menu.application_class_id_parent = prior
cls.application_class_id
and cls.application_class_id != 0
The error from oLite is ...

This sql works on an EE version of the DB. I do agree that
in-line queries work. I cut this sql up to be just an in-line query and it does work. The problem seems to be around the use of "connect by" with an in-line. I do know that "connect by" works.
Thanks in advance for any input.

Error while trying access JSP page first time using Oracle Lite
Hi,
We are doing a proof of concept using Oracle Lite 10gR3. Installed Mobile server and published a JSP based application. Installed web-to-go setup.exe on a client machine and synchronized the application. However when we tried to open the page, it comes up with an error. We are using jdk version 1.4. Any advise will be highly appreciated. Thanks.

If this is a formal evaluation, you could also get a Sales-sponsored trial which usually comes with 30-90 days of Metalink support. You would be able to search for notes like Doc 414106.1
Bottom line is that the code is for JDK 1.5 and it's being deployed against JDK 1.4.2. Something needs to be either upgraded or downgraded. -

andrewThe following procedure describes the steps required to deploy the DbAdapter.rar file using admin_client.jar:
1. Copy the following libraries from server.xml in an OC4J_SOA container to a server.xml file for a new
container:
oracle.bpel.common
apache.junit
oracle.db.lite
apache.commons
apache.jdom
apache.slide
For example, for oracle.bpel.common, copy the following extract from one server.xml to another and
do the same for all other libraries:
<shared-library name="oracle.bpel.common" version="10.1.3">
<code-source path="D:\product\10.1.3.1\OracleAS_5/bpel/system/classes"/>

2. Restart the container to make sure that server.xml was updated correctly.
3. From the configtools.log file find the opmn port number, for example:
deployer:oc4j:opmn://dimak.au.oracle.com:6012/home
dimak.au.oracle.com - is the machine name and
6012 - port number
4. Launch a new command prompt
and set path and classpath, for example:
set PATH=$ORACLE_HOME\jdk\bin;%PATH%
set classpath=.
where in the classpath there is only one entry - the dot, which stands for the current directory.
5. change directory to the following:
$ORACLE_HOME\j2ee\home
and run the following command (written all on one line) to deploy the DbAdapter:
java -jar admin_client.jar deployer:oc4j:opmn://dimak.au.oracle.com:6012/test oc4jadmin
manager1 -deploy -file $ORACLE_HOME\integration\esb\lib\DBAdapter.rar -deploymentName
DbAdapter2 -parent default
where
* dimak.au.oracle.com should be substituted with your machine name
* 6012 should be substituted with your port which you found in step 3
* test is the name of the container you want to deploy the adapter to
* manager1 should be substituted with your oc4jadmin password
* $ORACLE_HOME\integration\esb\lib\DBAdapter.rar is the location of the DBAdapter.rar file
* deploymentName DbAdapter2 - should be different from DbAdapter, as that name is already used in the OC4J_SOA container. -
Oracle Lite 10.3.0: how to find out the consumed size of a BLOB column
Hi,
we are developing an app that utilizes an Oracle Lite database and so far I have just been unable to find a reasonable way to determine the size of stored binary data.
All the "usual" ways we aware of from "main" Oracle just don't seem to work with OLIte (ie SELECT dbms_lob.getlength(file_data) from APPS.CSL_LOBS) so how does one find out the size of blob objects?
Thanks in advanceAssuming BLOBs are not stored in-line:

Sql-92 syntax in Oracle Lite 8i
The Oracle Lite documentation instructs the developer to enact this change to polite.ini to use sql-92 syntax:
Running SQL-92 on Oracle Lite
As mentioned in the preceding section,
Oracle Lite uses Oracle SQL by default.
However, if you want to support SQL-92 by
default instead of Oracle SQL, you can
change the SQL compatibility parameter in
the POLITE.INI file to SQL-92. To change
the parameter, add the following in the
POLITE.INI file:
SQLCOMPATIBILITY=SQL92
See the Oracle Lite User's Guide for more
information about the POLITE.INI file.
However this does not appear to have any effect. For instance, this query in the polite sample database:
select product.descrip,price.stdprice
from product FULL OUTER JOIN price
ON product.prodid = price.prodid;
generates a syntax error:
ERROR at line 1:
OCA-30021: error preparing/executing SQL
statement
[POL-5228] syntax error
Is there more steps needed to make Oracle 8i Lite SQL-92 Compatible???Hello,

JDBC access to Oracle Lite from midlet on j9 pocket pc
Hi all,
Is it possible to access an Oracle Lite database from a MIDLet applicatie
running on a POCKET with the J9 virtual machine? I want to use MIDP and not the Personal Profile to be able to use the Oracle webservice proxy with the J2ME client SDK.
I think that I only have to include the appropriate libraries (classes12.jar or olite40.jar) in my project..Am I right?
Thanks in advance,
Tom HofteHi,
Please do not get me wrong , I am sending this reply to get some help from you about your findings .
I am s/w developer who is involved in application development for PDA devices
As an option ,
I have installed oracle9i database in a machine which has win2k server OS and then
Installed oracle9iLite mobile server sharing the same <ORACLE_HOME> on the machine.
I am trying to configure and start the mobile server in the “STANDALONE MODE”
When I typed webtogo on the cmd line , it did not respond , instead it said “Unrecognized option”
Then when I tried to execute the weg-to-go executable file in the <ORACLE_HOME>\mobile\server\bin directory ,
It did not respond .
Can you please help me out to sort out this problem,
And also give me some more useful hints to configure the mobile server as a module in oracle9iAS.
Expecting an early response
Thanks in advance

HI all,
my BPEL PM standalone starts without launching oracle lite db, i've checked the startorabpel.bat and everything is alright with this file,
i think the problem comes from the modification of obsetenv.bat: i've added
some libraries in the " @REM List of Orabpel and Orabpel related libraries " section, but even when i removed the libraries i've added the problem remains, can anybody help me please?Install agian and if it work correct congrats, if not in the start in the star_olite.bat delete the folowing line in bold.
C:\OraBPELPM_1\integration\orabpel\bin\olsv2040.exe /debug
exit
The idea of this is to check when ever the olite has a problem or if the olite did not stat up.
From a previous consulting, I installed BPEL in one PC and I had problem running the olite because of JVM Error. The olite indeed started, but exited inmediatly it was run, so i had to remove the exit line to see the error. -
Problem with Oracle Lite 4.0.3.0.0 (BPEL Process Manager)
during the installation of Oracle BPEL Process Manager, Oracle Lite (4.0.3.0.0) is installed by default, so i've decided to go with it.
however when i tried to create a database connection thru the wizard it says:
unable to find driver: oracle.lite.poljdbc.POLJDBCDriver
i need to be able to do this because i want to use the database adapter as a partner-link.
how do i fix this? what do i have to do so that it can locate this driver
there's no problem using the command-line 'msql'
please help!
cheers,
Shivek SachdevHi Shivek,

Oracle Lite: How to create data subsetting parameters?
I need to know:
how to create data subsetting parameters?
I need these parameters for use of a restricting predicate in an item publication.
I were looking the forum and i found topics about "how to set?" but i don't found how to create a data subsetting parameter.
I am replacing SQL server 2000 and SQL server CE by oracle 9i and oracle lite 5.0.2.
Thanks in advance.
PCIDHad problems with the parameters shown on pages webtogo in the datasubsettings section because none of them were "defined", but in sections 1.4.1.2 I found these lines:
Template: select * from master.task where CustCity = :city
Then click OK. This brings you back to the previous screen. The template query contains a variable (subscription parameter) named "city". Later, when you provision the application to a user, you will be prompted to enter the value for it.
I found out how to put a parameter to restrict registries that download to the pocket pc from each user.
Thank you very much!!! -
What's the different between "Oracle Lite Edition" and "Oracle Express Edition"?
Please give me comparison table with Data Volume, Memory, No of users, License and other key features..They are two different code lines. Oracle Database XE is based on the Oracle Database 10g Release 2 Code line and as such supports the SQL and PL/SQL dialects, and standard data types found in Oracle. Oracle Lite has a different code line, albeit with similar data types, similar SQL dialects, but no PL/SQL.
Oracle Lite is a very small footprint database - around 6 Mb I believe. It runs on Windows/Linux and also some OS on smaller devices, such as phones and PDAs. Oracle Database XE has a larger footprint (considerably) and will not run on phones and PDAs.
Oracle Lite is multi-user, but is mainly designed for disconnected mobile applications, where the device/machine synchronizes a subset of data with the main Oracle Database. Oracle XE is multi-user, and can also replicate data to and from a 'main' Oracle Database.
Unfortunately I don't have time to get into a full feature by feature comparison. We will do soemthing like this for production however, as it's sure to be an FAQ. In the meantime, if you told us what your considerations are I could provide some insight into which would be the better solution. -
Hello,
we have a customer that likes to migrate an application from Lotus Notes to an Oracle DB with HTML DB as front-end. However, they'd need some data replication and editing functionality for off-line work of sales people in the field.
Therefore, my question(s):
1. Would HTML DB work on/with Oracle Lite?
2. Could the HTML DB app also be replicated, like the app data using the Oracle Lite replication mechanisms?
Thank you in advance for any information.
Best regards
HolgerHello Sergio,
I feared already that Oracle Lite wouldn't be powerful enough to host an HTML DB installation. Now at least I know.
Thank you very much for the information.
Best regards

I'm trying to get a demo copy of Oracle Lite 8i working on my machine, but I can't seem to get tables setup on the databases. I'm running a sql script through SQLPlus and it says it is creating tables, but when I go to navigator I can't see anything. Does anyone have any ideas on what I'm doing wrong?
Thanks in advance.
TimThe difference in Olite versus Oracle Server SQL is here:
OLite does NOT automatically commit DDLs.
That means that a CREATE TABLE is not written to the database until You issue a COMMIT.
When disconnecting from OLite without COMMITting the freshly created tables, they are GONE because of an automatic rollback upon disconnection.
Short line:
always do a COMMIT after DDLs, or Your tables are ROLLED BACK and gone upon disconnect or invisible to other clients until COMMIT. -
