Oracle r12 on virtual machine

Hi,
I have installed Oracle r12 on virtual machine (linux) on my laptop.
I have noticed that virtual machine loses date/time.
How can I keep the date/time on my virtual machine in sync with my laptop date/time so that date and time in Oracle R12 is current?
Regards,
Manvir Singh

I had installled Vmware workstation 8 oel 5.5(32bit) on my windows 7 pro(64bit)system. i installed successfully oracle R12 no error found also first time i access the page on vmware Mozilla Browser after i just stop service and database as

  • Oracle 11g in Virtual Machine

    Hi Gurus,
I would like to gather input from you, what is the pro and con, advantages and disadvantages for putting Oracle 11g in Virtual Machine (VMWare, Oracle VM, Virtual Box, etc.)
and will there be any licensing issue with this.
Currently we have CPU Based license for our Production and Named User license for the Dev.
thanks in advance for your time.
    Lie

If you put Oracle db in VMWare then you have a non-certified configuration, and you could be alone (I mean without Oracle support) if you have a problem than Oracle support cannot reproduce in a certified configuration. I would avoid a non-certified configuration for a production environment.
    So, two choices :
    * go for Oracle VM
    * go without VM at all

  • Oracle database on virtual machine without a license

    Hi,
Someone told me earlier that you can install Oracle on a virtual machine without buying a license. Do you know an internet link that could confirm this.
    Thanks.

What about preconfigured virtual machines Oracle distributes? Do you have to have a license for them as well? I'm pretty sure you do, it would say in big letters if you didn't need a license...
I not can you alter the installations by building additional instances?Yes, you can add instances (except to an XE database) for testing but you asked about licensing a server...

  • Oracle VM as virtual machine - Networking

    hi
I have seen some docs about networking, and thus how to install oracle vm 3.2.x as virtual guest on top of the cloud stack (HA enabled).
Is there any best practices document for networking in this fashion?
We like to have 3 networks.
Network management VLAN1 (local IP adresses)
Storage Network VLAN2 (local IP adresses)
    VM Network VLAN3 (public IP's)
While the oracle vm runs as a guest, there is only the public network wehere we can select for nic's.
It's possible to run OVM as guest with diffrent network segment? Should we use this configuration in a production ervironment
    Thanks for your support

I was making this too complicated... I set up a squid proxy on a different machine and it all works well.

  • Oracle tuxedo and Oracle tuxedo message queue on top of a virtual machine.

    Hi buddies.
    how is it going?
    A quick question.
So we are going to go live  using Oracle Tuxedo 12.1.1.0 with Distinguished Bulletin Board Liaison and Oracle Tuxedo Message Queue 12.1.1.0  on top of a Virtual Machine (VMWARE) running Oracle Linux 6.2. However we want to know if there are any recommendations or mishaps in which we may face ahead by running Oracle Tuxedo on a virtual machine?
I mean, I am wondering if I have to worry about kernel parameters, virtual machine parameters or any other thing from which could mess up everything.
    Another question.
Does oracle also provide virtual machines certification where Oracle tuxedo would run on top of ?
    Todd Little-Oracle
    Maurice G

    Hi Bruno,
I'm not sure what you mean with Distinguished Bulletin Board Liaison.  I'm guessing you mean a clustered or MP configuration?  And is it truly a clustered configuration or just a single machine MP configuration?
Regarding configuration, are you using Tuxedo services as well or just Tuxedo Message Queue?  The biggest issue related to OS configuration is around IPC resources.  If you do a tmloadcf -c on your UBBCONFIG file, it will help you determine the minimum IPC resources required.  In general I suggest configuring significantly more resources than the minimum to allow for future changes and for some of the parameters for heavier loads.  In particular IPC message queue parameters are heavily dependent upon load.  So make sure the maximum message size and queue size are large enough for your anticipated workload.  You can monitor them under load using the ipcs command.
We don't certify virtual machine environment but support them as long as the VM vendor assures compatibility, which obviously VMware and Oracle VM both do.
    Regards,
    Todd Little

  • ASM on a virtual machine

    Hi Just a quick one...
Would it be possible to install 11gr2 with ASM on a virtual machine (running OEL 5.5) - host machine running windows?
Or can anyone think of any issues I might have?
    Thanks

this?... as in im strugeling to find any guides for running oracle on a virtual machine with windows hostThe reason you are struggling to find any such guides is because there is no reason for them to exist. Oracle only cares about what OS it is running on. If you have a windows host with a virtual Linux, and Oracle is installed on that virtual linux, then Oracle only cares about the linux. It doesn't even know about the Windows, so why should there be any guides dealing with that? Running oracle on a virtual machine is just like running it on a physical machine. That's the whole idea of virtualization.

whats the difference between oracle virtualbox/vmware/vmplayer ...?Different products, different companies
Virtualbox - "An x86 virtualization software package developed by Sun Microsystems" (That quote came from the summary in the very first hit when I googled "virtualbox". I didn't even have to drill down to find it.) (Sun is now owned by Oracle)
VMware - a company that produces a variety of VM products. The leading vendor of such products
VMplayer - one of the products produced by VMware. A free, no-frills product for creating virtual machines under a host OS.

  • Connecting one database to many virtual machines

    Hi Experts,
We have set many Virtual Machines (VM) in Windows Server already. Each Virtual Machine will be used to install SAP module for instance VM-1 for BI, VM-2 for Solution Manager, VM-3 for IDES, VM-4 for EP, etc.
    The questions is:
Is it possible to integrate one Data Base (Oracle) to all virtual machine? and how to do it ?
    Thank you for the respond.
    Gruesse,
    F. Ramli

It is called "MCOD" - http://service.sap.com/mcod
Personally I wouldn´t use such a scenario. In case you want to upgrade/patch the database all instances will be down.

  • Install R12 on a Virtual Machine hosted on Windows Vista

I wanted to install Oracle EBS R12.1.1 on Windows Vista Home Premium 64-bit but used to get .\jre\nt\1.6.0\bin\java error. Hussein Sawwan
helped and said that this is not certified. He adviced me to create a VMWare Server. Following is my experience. I hope it is helpful. Any
suggestions, additions are more than welcome. Thanks to all who helpmed me especially Hussein Sawwan, Helios, Gareth Roberts.
I used to get .\jre\nt\1.6.0\bin\java error after the installation would zoom through 33%. That was because my staging area was not correct. The staging area should be just next to c:\ or whatever be the root directory (or drive). No space or special characters in folder name. My current structure is as follows:
c:\r12stage. Under r12stage I have following folders and subfolders
    oraAppDB -- 49 Disks
    oraApps -- 11 Disks
oraAS -- 3 Disks (This comes from the Rapid Install Tools)
    oraDB -- 5 Disks
startCD -- 1 Disk plus other folders. Just copy startcd from the unzipped download and paste to r12stage area.
I then created a virtual machine using VMWare Server (free download but need to register to get the serial number). Because I installed
vmware server on Vista Home Premium 64 bit Host OS, I have to boot my machine by pressing F8 and then select Disable Digital Signature
Enformcement. Thanks to Gareth Roberts for this tip. Create a vm and install Windows 2003 by selecting the .img file (first cd) by selecting Use ISO image and then path of the windows 2003 cd 1 (zipped file). start the virtual machine, that will install windows 2003 and then ask for location of 2nd cd. On the host machine, where the second win 2003 zip file resides, unzip the second zip file and name the folder as cd2. share this folder to the __vmware_user__ and from the virtual machine, map network drive to \\hostmachinename\cd2. Select this as the location of cd2 and complete the installation. Install MKS Toolkit from http://cygwin.com/ and visual c++ from Microsoft website. for information on this please refer to the following URL. Thanks to Muhammad Habib
    http://mhabib.wordpress.com/2007/03/14/installing-oracle-applications-e-bussiness-11i-on-windows-xp/
After installation is done and Windows Update is run, share the r12stage directory on the host machine to the vmuser and launch rapidwiz.cmd from the command prompt and follow the instruction. For internet connection from the VM use Ethernet as NAT.
If the installation errors halfway through, clean up your VM by following instructions in document id 292424.1 in MetaLink. If you dont have access to Metalink then I summarize the steps briefly over here.
    Launch the Registry Editor.
    Navigate to the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software key.
Select the Apache Group subkey and delete it.
Select the Oracle subkey and delete it.
Navigate to the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\Current Control Set\Services.
Carefully select and delete each service beginning with Oracle. For example, delete "Oracle Apache Server PROD_<nodename>".
When you are finished, exit the Registry Editor.
Navigate to the Environment Variables editing screen according to your system setup. For example, right-click My Computer and select
Properties. From the Advanced tab, click the Environment Variables button.
Select the following system variables if created during the failed installation, and delete them: DISCO_JRE, DISCO_VBROKER, JSERV,
    VBROKER_JAVAVM, VBROKER_TAG, WV_GATEWAY.
Select the Path variable, but do not delete it. Carefully edit it and remove any component with "Oracle" in the name, or that otherwise
references the failed install. For example, delete "E:\11.5.10\test\visora\8.0.6\bin;".
    Save and exit System Properties.
Open a command window and navigate to the C:\Program Files\ directory. Delete the Oracle subdirectory.
If your Oracle Inventory directory was not C:\Program Files\Oracle\Inventory and was therefore not deleted in the previous step, locate it
    and delete it.
    Restart your machine
It is now safe to remove the Oracle filesystem that was partially installed during the failed installation. Go to the base install directory,
or top-level directory under which you installed either the Database Server (DATA, DB) or the Applications Tier Server (APPL, ORA, COMN)
directories, or both. Note that you may choose to rename a directory before you delete it. This allows you to use the same directory name and start a new installation even before you finish the delete filesystem operation. For example, if you placed your filesystem in a "test" directory under
    "E:\11.5.10":
    C:\> E:
    E:\> cd 11.5.10
    E:\> rename test oldtest
    E:\> del /s /q oldtest
    In another window:
    C:\> cd <stage install directory>
    Q:\> rapidwiz.cmd
After cleaning up if you still get error like RW-50004: Error Code received when running external process. Check log file for
details. Running database Install driver for VIS instance, after 13% complte step 1 of 5 then I suggest that you re-create the machine and follow the above steps again. Including installing win 2003, mks tool kit , vc++, etc. It will be a success.
Starting concurrent manager takes up enormous memory and slows down everything, so if you dont need it then dont ever start it. APPS password is apps and sysadmin user is sysadmin.
    Good luck.
    Mahesh Acharya

I had Vista 64-bit machine, installed Ubuntu in VMWare. Installed Oracle apps on 32-bit Ubuntu under VMware and was able to access Oracle apps. But, it is very very slow. It hangs sometimes and takes 15-20mins to display Ubuntu screens. Am I missing something here. I have a 4GB RAM and VMWare can not use all the 4GB. It may be using 2GB of 4GB. Am I missing something?

    Hi,
You can install windows on Oracle VM Server, but no template with windows.
    - you should import the windows.iso file in the repository
    - create a VM with the type HVM or HVM, PV Drivers ...
    - Install a windows

    I am using Entity Framework.

    Hi,
From my experience, this thread seems more related with
the Entity Framework forum, but anyway, you should use a data provider that can handle EF in Oracle. There are couple of 3rd party data providers for oracle that support entity framework - devart, datadirect, and Oracle also has a new version of the
    ODP that supports EF.
You can see the list here:

  • Oracle BPM Virtual machine

I recently downloaded and set up Oracle BPM virtual machine on 64 bit windows 7 enterprise edition.
When I started JDev 11.1.1.6 on virtual machine and tried to create BPM Project but it did not give me option to create BPM Projects. JDev 11.1.1.6 on virtual machine allows me to create BPM Project Templates etc instead of BPM projects where I was able to see this option on my local JDev 11.1.1.5.
Would like to know if this is a latest change in JDev features or is this some bug with the latest edition of virtual machine?

I am not sure about this but In also used to have a BPM suite with jdev on a linux VM. If this is the same one then it was only ever intended for workshops and the like and you will not get full functionality from the VM.

Edited by: Rahul K on May 17, 2013 9:12 AMExactly like you would if that virtual Windows server were a physical server in your data center.
Install your client products, including the oracle client, on your host os.
Create a tnsames file that has an entry for the database on our virtual server.
Just like a real server, your vm must have a fixed IP address so that client processes will know how to find it.

First it gave me the following errormessage: ORA-12154: TNS:could not resolve the connect identifier specified (I hope the text is right, my database is in german)
After setting oracle_sid=<sid> it gave me this one: ORA-12560: TNS: Error within Protocoladapter (freely translated ;)

Just like a real server, your vm must have a fixed IP address so that client processes will know how to find it.
